285 @open | Minske might not be well versed in the ways of Pokemon or the region of Inset, but even he knew that this whole situation was a bit... off? Weird, anyway. There was something about the whole thing that drew his interest. It wasn't just the cheap prices or the weird items. After all, nobody in their right mind traded valuable items for things that could be picked up straight of the ground unless there was something else going on. He just wasn't looking at this whole thing and taking it at face value. But there was no way to investigate and stick his nose in without being a part of it, so here he was. It's not like he was actually a ranger yet anyway, so he really didn't have a clue where to start otherwise.
If nothing else, Kanna was having a ball. < Shiny up ground to Minske, for you! > he said happily, scooping up what he called 'shiny blue rocks' in his dexterous trunk and dropping them into Minske's bag. He wasn't the only one doing so, either. The stretch of beach was rumored to be haunted, so he figured it was often empty, but it was a beautiful area nonetheless. While he'd heard that many of these places had cropped up, this one was the most picturesque by far.
It was, he'd decided, a wonderful place to let Kanna explore, a great sight for him to see after being cooped up in his rocky home at the ranger outpost his whole life. In his backpack were three eggs, wrapped in clothes to keep them safe - he hoped. It would be a pretty place to hatch them, if he stayed here long enough.

kenren 677"Something about this just doesn't feel right." Hana spoke, moving another gem into her fingers and looking it over. She was collecting them across the beach for various reasons. One, she thought it was strange a merchant showed up and said, 'find me gems plz' at the same time the gems just so happened to show up. Secondly, the place was haunted, and Hana loved a good ghost story. So why not investigate both things at once?? Hawlucha was just as cautious, if not more so, as his trainer. In the small time they had spent together he'd learned that Hana often got into situations that stacked the odds against them almost as if on purpose, like she was challenging the world to make her stronger. In a way, he admired it. In another way, possibly as her self-proclaimed guardian, it worried him. Though mostly he was excited, because he loved a good challenge. < The gems do seem something to remain skeptical toward. However, I'm sure the ghost stories are all hogwash. >A smile brightened Hana's face. "Hogwash, huh?" She loved how he spoke, so strange, so out of his time, so brilliant all at the same time. She shrugged and put the gem in her bag, continuing to collect a few more. "I'd like to get enough gems for that egg, and then possibly see what comes from that, and maybe it'll answer some questions."There was judgement clear in his beak. < You're... 'investigating' for the sake of an egg? >Hana glanced over at him and then huffed. "Well, when you put it that way..." It sounded selfish. "I'm just saying while we're here I wouldn't mind gathering something that can help us on the journey!"< An egg? And then a child? It's not as if they come forth from their hatch in full knowledge. > Hawlucha thought the egg would slow them down, and he was trying to make his point clear. And Hana would have none of it. "No worries, I'll take care of it and teach it the ways. Plus, maybe it'll take you on as a sensei, hm?" She was enticing his ego now, which seemed to work decently since his feathers ruffled and he puffed out his chest a bit. "There ya go, wins all around." She pointed out before her eyes landed on a boy with white hair and his companion. "Oh look! We aren't alone." She grinned down at Hawlucha. "And imagine that, they're not ghosts... at least, they aren't so far."Hawlucha rubbed the feathers just above his beak and between his eyes. < I doubt they are. >"Well let's go find out!" Hana grinned and took his feather, pulling him up into a hug that made his feathers ruffle and his face contort. Regal as he was, he did love cuddles, but not publicly and usually he showed a face of discomfort to prove that point. As she jogged up, she was a grinning mess. She stopped just sort of the trainer and his companion and smiled brightly. "Hello! You're not ghosts, are you?" She could practically feel Hawlucha shrinking a bit. While Hana was brilliant in battle, she was a social derp, and her Hawlucha often got a bit embarrassed by her.

362 | Minske thought he'd probably seen the other trainer before she'd seen him - or at least, he'd become aware of them. While he couldn't hear the words, he'd heard their voices drifting over the sand, even over the crash of the waves. He watched curiously, in a sidelong way, as he continued to to search for the gems - that was, until they saw him as well. Kanna had also ignored them, but the older woman's approach with her fancy bird thing in-arms got his attention. < Is Hawlucha, > he said quietly to Minske before they reached them. Which would have been helpful, if he had any clue what a Hawlucha was. At least Kanna was trying to help his trainer's huge gaps in knowledge...
And good, the first person he'd met in Inset outside of the ranger waypoint thought he was a ghost. That's what he got for having such pale hair, he supposed. Or for being so pale in general. Except for the sunburn. Constant, constant sunburn. Before he could respond, Phanpy galumphed a foot or two toward the trainer, ears waving and trunk pointing up at she and the Pokemon. < Am not ghost. Am Phanpy, > he said slowly, then shot a look back at Minske. Since the elephant's Common wasn't so good, Minske had learned to read his expressions pretty well. This one said can you believe these guys? Minske just rolled his eyes at his Pokemon, pushing him a little with his leg. Where Minske lacked in Pokemon knowledge, Kanna lacked in social skills. But he would learn. "What he means to say is 'hello, I'm Kanna.' And I'm Minske. Also not a ghost."
He looked curiously at her Pokemon, which naturally drew his attention with its bright, odd coloring. And because it looked decidedly uncomfortable in its current position. Kanna half looked like he wanted to go do something else, and half like he wanted to challenge the bird to a game - which was his habit. He told Minske all the time that while the human was learning, he wasn't great at games. For now Kanna refrained, but he kept his eyes open for the opportunity to start something up.

kenren 171Oh, clearly she had offended him. She leaned back a bit, shifting her hold on Hawlucha a bit before finally setting him down. He quickly fixed his feathers and huffed, shaking quickly, a few feathers hitting the ground before finally settling to cross his hands over his chest. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offended. I'd just heard the area was haunted and thought how better to mask yourself than a trainer and their cute little Phanpy?" Hana grinned down before her eyes landed on Hawlucha, who was eyeing the trainer 'Minske' and then his eyes moved to the Phanpy, Kanna was it? Once again her gaze shifted and she smiled at Minske. "Sorry. I'm Hana." Her smile widened. "This is Hawlucha, we're a little new to the area." She admitted, leaning back and holding out her hand for a proper greeting.

175 | Minske clasped the girl's hand, smiling apologetically. "It's not a problem, honestly. We're new here too, and Kanna's still learning how to socialize with humans, I think. He grew up pretty wild at the Ranger Waypoint." He released her hand, ignoring Kanna as he tooted a little noise up at him through his trunk, not thrilled to be apologized for but taking his trainer's lead for the moment. With a little huff, he abandoned the gem hunt for the time being, turning away from the other three and tromping the ten feet over to where the waves lapped the shore. He busied himself with sorting through the shells as the waves splashed around him.
Minske slowly turned his gaze away and back to the woman. "Um... yeah. Anyway. Nice to meet you as well, Hawlucha. We just got here a few hours ago, but we traveled pretty far to try and see what this whole thing's about. It's pretty weird, but they've got some pretty interesting stuff they're willing to trade for the little gems."

kenren 275Like... Like the egg. It was true, Hana had her eyes on the blue egg more than she did anything else from the pedestals. It was strange, because she wasn't much of an egg hatcher. Baby Pokemon meant raising Pokemon that were children. As a child herself when she was a coordinator, it didn't seem much like a good idea. She was too focused on dressing her Pokemon and winning. But now? Now she had time to calm down, chill out, and explore the different perks of being a trainer as well as a coordinator. She realized this would make her a bit rusty on the coordination front, but she couldn't help herself. This new journey was already giving her so much. She didn't want to deprive herself of other opportunities either! All that to excuse her want to get an egg. Either way, she gave a small laugh. "I think the egg looks really promising. I like how they're making it easy to get the evolution stones as well, because those aren't cheap..." She glanced around. "At first I sort of thought the gems were a little... I dunno, strange? But now? Now I'm just interested in what I can get." Her eyes got a bit wide and she covered her mouth. "Oh. Well. That sounded selfish..." She let out a small laugh at herself.

195 | Minske frowned a little, giving half a shrug as he looked in the direction of the stand down the road. "It's definitely odd, I'm not sure that I totally trust it... But I guess I'm a little less worried than I would be if they were asking for actual money. Like you said, that stuff isn't cheap, but maybe that makes it weirder altogether. Maybe they're just eccentric." That, or they were selling them some sort of like... bio-weapon. Poisoned candy, persay. But only time would tell. He was interested in getting his hands on whatever he could, though he was actually a little nervous at the thought of the egg. He already had three literally weighing him down, and more would probably just end up being a hassle. Ah, well.
"So where are you from?" Minske asked, always the sort to be up for a chat even if it wasn't particularly deep. Kanna was still sorting shells into piles for his own purposes, probably a game to suck Minske into even though he never knew the rules. Or could actually win. As long as the little elephant was occupied, Minske was in no hurry.

kenren 258It did sort of seem like it was strange altogether, didn't it? Maybe that was just Hana being ... well, Hana. She was constantly dreaming up these ridiculous scenarios and paranoid fantasies. Sometimes she kept herself awake at night after a stressful day by stressing about whether or not a rabid Pokemon was going to jump out and try and eat her. Poor Hawlucha... she wasn't sure he was ready for such trainer. But then again, he seemed plenty capable and very brave. Maybe he could quell her otherwise paranoid and constantly worried mind. "I'm from Hoenn." she answered, grinning at him proudly. "Pacifidlog more pacifically." Her pun had her giggling, but shifting awkwardly in the sand because as she said it she realized how really not funny it had been. Oops."Are you a local here to Inset? Or are you from a different region as well?" Best to get the spotlight off of her as soon as possible before she said something else strange, embarrassing, or weird... Hawlucha was just minding himself, eyeing the elephant Pokemon as it started collecting gems. He found himself curious about why the elephant was moving the gems about. Then he realized he was thinking of Kanna as 'the elephant' and that was probably rude. He wouldn't like to be thought of as 'the kung-fu bird.' So, he decided to himself to think of her instead as Kanna, who happened to be an elephant.
