starters
.
Starter pokemon are the bread and butter of most pokemon sites, and here on Reach is no exception. at the current time, there are two ways for you to get Starter pokemon! this will be changed in the future to expand to three, but currently this is what we offer.your first character is required to go through the Lab or Ranger's Station. after that, both of them are optional.
The Lab
the classic way to is to go to the pokemon lab in Cassiopeia Village. Professor Liatris has a list of available Starters that the lab will provide for anyone who wants to start their journey.
This list is separated into three tiers. The higher the tier, the more work you have to put into your starter thread in order to earn that pokemon. Do not read 'higher tier' as 'higher word count'. If we can see that you are putting in an effort, you will be rewarded. Occasionally, the pokemon in Tier 2 and 3 will be switched out for different pokemon if we feel that too many of a certain species are being given out, or if they've just been in rotation for a long time.
Liatris or one of their assistants will RP with you through the process, showcasing three pokemon for your character to choose from. After your choice is made, you are free to leave the lab and start your adventures. Keep in mind, after the choices are presented there is no sudden rush to choose right away. You are free to ask questions and get to know your pokemon before you make this very important choice. In fact, it is encouraged, as each pokemon has a unique personality. You could be a Contest Star who gets a pokemon who hates the spotlight if you just pick and don't ask questions first!
The Ranger's Station
The more random way is to sign up for a Starter at the Ranger's Outpost. Instead of making a thread in Cassiopeia, make a thread labeled [starter] there. One of the friendly Rangers there will help you go through the preserve to catch your own pokemon from the wild!
This pokemon could be anything. It could be a sickly little Rattata or a rowdy Gible. You won't know what you're going to get until you post and we don't do rerolls- if you get stuck with a Magikarp and a dream, that was a risk you were willing to take. After you capture your pokemon, you will be flown back to Cassiopeia Village to start your journey. You do not have to be a Ranger or want to become a Ranger to get a pokemon this way.
Even if you get your starter at the Ranger's Outpost, you still have to make your way down the boards from Cassiopeia like everyone else.
Other Info
in your starter threads, whichever staff member picks it up for modding will be the only one to reply to your thread. since these pokemon have personalities it is very hard to switch things around on the fly. however, if it has been more than 1 week since your last starter reply from your mod, pm the person modding your thread that you are interested in changing who does your thread. when they reply, post a link to your starter thread in the pokemon moderation and another staff will pick it up.
Regardless of where you got your pokemon from, you will also get a Starter Kit. Your Starter Kit contains an Inset Map, Pokedex, TM Case, 5 Pokeballs and 2 Potions.
It is possible to get kicked out of the Lab or Ranger's Station. If you get kicked out, you will not receive a pokemon or a starter kit. If your character acts in a way that makes the Staff think you can't take care of a pokemon, be it from extreme physical or mental illness to having them look down or be abusive to the pokemon, they will be kicked out. You are more than free to contest this if you feel your character is being treated unfairly and we will have other staff members assess the thread. IC actions have IC consequences. We don't want to discourage people from playing less traditional trainers or playing in character, and we understand that sometimes RP characters just like people don't mesh well. However, the staff at the Lab and the Ranger's Station are professional and in real life you would at least feign respect for someone if you were looking to get something out of them.
!!!When you finish your starter thread, make sure you post it in the pokemon moderation thread so a staff knows it's there!!!
