[attr="class","rostercat2"]Minske is, upon first glance, a pretty nice guy. And that's not an inaccurate impression, at least not as far as the general public is concerned. He might not be a saint, but he is willing to help others and to better those around him. He'll go out of his way if somebody needs him, but not necessarily out of complete altruism. Minske learned at a young age that it was easier to be kind to others than it was to accept kindness, or pity. It was easier to live his life if people never thought to dig beneath the surface or pry for problems. In reality Minske is a coward, at least in his own mind. While he might be nice, he doesn't believe he'd have what it took to throw himself into a burning building or sacrifice himself for the life of another. He believes that in order to be the person he's idolized to be, he should be more self-sacrificing - instead, he is a sham. He runs from his problems rather than confronting them, and lives with the constant weight of unattended decisions. When it comes to just casual interaction, he can seem a little aloof, but it rarely comes off as rude.[break][break]He doesn't make friends particularly well, but mostly because he can come off as boring at casual contact. Too goody-two-shoes. Ironically, he would be bored by the type of people that would feel comfortable hanging out with him, anyway. The close friends he has had have been a more rugged sort, perhaps even dangerous by some standards. But he doesn't feel the overwhelming pressure to be the perfect child, or the perfect human, around them. Once he's comfortable around someone, the wry (and almost vulgar, sometimes) sense of humor that he often hides comes forth, and he's almost an entirely different person. Relaxed, pushy, sometimes selfish, but most of all, playful. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]PERSONALITY | [attr="class","rostercat2"]Minske's life hasn't been entirely conventional, but it wasn't always unhappy, either. For as long as he can remember, he's been constantly moving, never settling in one place or school or friendship. His father was a high-ranking ranger, and because of that they were always uprooting to a new town. To set up a new division, or help with a problem area, or something else very noble. He was incredibly devoted to his job, almost at the expense of his family. They weren't unhappy though, and Minske remembered his early years in the gray area of haziness as a time when he played often with his mother and was excited to have his dad come home when he could.[break][break]The first big obstacle in his life came in the form of cancer. His mother was very suddenly diagnosed with late-stage cancer, and it was only two months before they lost her. It was as those things could tend to go, in the fallout. Minske and his father drew sharply apart, with his father throwing himself into his work and Minske spending much of his time out of the house. He didn't get into much trouble, but it was at that time that he became emotionally aloof, setting himself apart from those around him. He didn't want to make trouble for his father, so he threw himself into his schoolwork, though there was little reward for it. Minske and his father never really got along after his mother died, and Minske grew to resent him. He hated coming home to an empty house, cooking his own meals and eating along from the time he was nine. Always alone. Minske knew he just needed to finish school and leave. All this time, they were still moving around the world, constantly changing scenery, so he didn't even have close friends to confide in.[break][break]The second major obstacle in his life was losing his second parent, no matter how distant they were from each other. His father was a hero, everyone kept telling him at the funeral. Minske felt like the wretched child for believing anything different, but he did. He thought the man had given his life saving others when he hadn't even been willing to spend time with his son. It had been a rockslide, they told him. He went up to save a climber with a sprained ankle, and the rockslide had happened. The girl had survived, but his father had not. So stupidly simple. Rather than being forced to live with strangers while he finished school, Minske gathered what he had left of his life and set off for Inset. It was the only place he'd never lived, and he needed a fresh start.[break][break] Minske had been around Pokemon his entire life, but not as much as one would think. It was peripheral contact, as they didn't have any Pokemon in their home - they were simply his father's partners, and they were rarely home. He'd never raised one or done anything like that for himself. It was quite suddenly on the trip to Inset that Minske changed course from Cassiopeia Village. He wanted to go to the ranger station to... to maybe begin to understand. Maybe, if he looked into the life his father had lived, he might understand what had kept him away from his family.
