It's like a scene from an old movie. It may, in fact, be a scene from an old movie. Broken down buildings, missing windows, swinging doors - it's all very Clint Eastwood. Lounging against some rickety steps, wearing a cowboy hat and what can only be described as a bar wench's outfit, is Hal Suhail. She wants a challenge (and a Beedrill), so come on cowboys. Or cowgirls. She's nothing if not flexible. + This is a 1 v 1 battle + Two Pokemon + Levels are null, but my Pokemon are both under lvl 5 so younger ones would be cool just for mental similarity + Egg thread! + Hal will likely call back her Pokemon once they're exhausted ZelusFemale - Swarm - Level 4 Poison Sting - String Shot RossFemale - Big Pecks - Level 1 Tackle - Heat Wave Onix Egg

Aislin honestly thought the mod had been playing some sort of joke putting her into the getup she now found herself in. Like...a big swooshing hoop skirt complete with bustle and parasol?? Seriously? What the hell kind of battle was this?! She had to admit it was cute as could be - Beyond vintage - but she couldn’t quite place the time period or location it would clue her in to. She’d never been much for history. But when she release Astrape the Elekid from her cherish ball to walk with her down the hall to the room they’d been assigned, the egg-shaped bundle of electricity released a darling screech which led Aislin to believe the little monster knew exactly what they were about to walk into.
< Oh, Aislin it’s so PRETTY! Look at the- the > she reached a paw out to rub her nubs over one of the tiers of the skirt, < Taffeta! > she squealed, jerking her hand back so as not to singe it with the literal jolt of excitement she felt rippling through her. Sure enough tiny sparks flew off the ends of her claws inches away from the borrowed gown as she toddled beside of her trainer. ”Darling...” Aislin cautioned her while sneaking in an obscure film reference, balking at the sizzle that hung in the air. She was still getting used to type differences and her last capture for the Budew, Chloris, in her purse almost started with her releasing Astrape right on the edge of a huge fountain. She still wasn’t sure if water was strong against electric or the other way around, but either way just common sense told her you weren’t supposed to drop your hair dryer in the bathtub, so she tried to avoid those situations just in case.
As they reached the door she went ahead and released Chloris as well, giving her a gentle nudge, ”Don’t be scared, but we’re going to try battling now. I would rather train you in a controlled environment until you’re confident enough for an attempt in the wild. Okay?” she told the little bud, receiving a gurgling hum of acceptance in reply. ”Sure” she said, shrugging. The budew was full capable of pokespeech but for some reason lately she'd reverted to an infantile method of communication. So long as Chloris could understand her and she herself could pick up on the ways Chloris could communicate nonverbally, she figured they would be alright. The door opened to reveal an arid landscape and a creaky old west town, ”Oooohhh…..well that explains it…” she mused, stepping through and motioning for the kids to follow. She hoped whoever she’d been paired with wasn’t some maniac. She’d hate to kick someone’s ass for going overkill on the two baby pokemon she’d managed to get stuck with from the get-go. And with the three eggs weighing her purse down she knew she’d have nothing but babies for awhile yet. All the more reason to train Chloris up!
”Howdy!....” she called out to the saloon girl slumped on the bowed in porch steps up ahead, opening her parasol and taking solace in the shade it gave from the sweltering fabricated sun overhead.

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? Hal fluttered her skirt, trying to get some sort of breeze going under the thick material. The layers of the skirt were red, ending just over her knees, but thick and airy enough for them to bounce with pretty much every movement. The upper layer was just stiff enough to keep anything from being too scandalous, though. The black and red of the corset fit snugly, probably too snugly, but it wasn't any worse than your average fun Friday night. At Hal's feet were two rather unassuming creatures - the wormy Weedle with the sour attitude and the Pidgey whose only outstanding features were the red, white, and blue feathers atop her head. Zelus was trying her best to not look completely miserable at being lumped together with the newborn Pidgey, who currently appeared to be eating a rock. Brilliant. "Perk up, children. Today is a good day." Her bag, which was tucked away safely behind a railing, held the rock-grey egg of an Onix. Which she was decidedly excited about, because who didn't want to ride an Onix? The door opened across the street, finally, and Hal was greeted with the sight of a woman all frills and lace, more the western lady than the western... whatever Hal was. Definitely not a lady. She called a greeting fit for the times, flipping open her parasol against the sun. At her feet were two young Pokemon, not unlike Hal's own. At least they were more colorful. After probably a long moment of inspection, Hal pushed to her feet, dusting off the back of her flouncing dress. Stockings reached up underneath the skirt, ending mid-thigh, and ended in short, heeled black boots. She pulled the hat off of her head, bowing as elaborately as she knew how. She tilted her head up from the position, smile winning and a bit sharp. "Welcome to the land of misfiring guns and strange diseases. I'm Hal." She stood from the position, hat put crookedly back on her head, and she motioned Zelus into the cleared space between them with her foot. The Weedle went reluctantly, almost seeming to sulk. She had a bad attitude anyway, but Hal was hoping turning into something other than a wriggling worm would brighten her outlook on life. "This is Zelus, she's a pain in the ass." The Weedle gave her what could only be called a sardonic look, enough to melt plaster. < Ever think I would be friendlier if you weren't so pushy? > she grumbled, setting herself up to face whichever Pokemon the other woman would choose. Hal shrugged, not bothered, as Ross hopped around at her feet. "Not in my nature," she said, then tapped the little bird with her foot. "Pay attention, you're next." At least this lady looked like she wouldn't bully the newborn bird too much, though a little tough love was never a bad thing. "Your move, pretty lady." Aislin chewed the inside of her lip at how cool and frankly sexy the other woman looked compared to her own poofy flowy gown. It was already sticking to her lower back as the sweat began to collect. She hoped they had dry cleaning facilities here cause she wouldn’t be getting her deposit back on the outfit otherwise. The pink and white cupcake-like dress was darling but….impractical for the environment. A small part of her had a mind to strip down to her petticoat and call it a day but that would just ruin the illusion, and Astrape was so pleased with the ensemble she couldn’t stand to break her heart like that.
She took a moment to observe her kiddos’ two opponents for the day. A pidgey and a weedle. She smirked a little at the passing thought that they had an advantage of blending in with their drab surroundings, but it quickly disappeared as she wondered if that really was an advantage. What the fuck were their types? She’d only ever seen them in nurseries at contest halls while their parents performed gorgeous airborne moves. Surely the worm couldn’t fly? As it slithered out front and center she figured she would find out soon enough.
She stepped on out into the street - if you could call the trampled dirt road a street - and looked behind her briefly to see she’d stepped through the facade of a dress shop. Quaint. As she turned back the other woman was bowing with a flourish and grinning at her. This would be fun...maybe she had just as much flair for the dramatic as Aislin could be known to have. ”Thanks for the warm welcome, Hal. I’m Aislin, apparently the ugliest youngest daughter of a bourbon magnate back home who’s been shipped out here to find a desperate enough man to marry me.” she played up the character with a twirl of her parasol, ”I do declare, it’s hotter than the hinges of hell out here.” at that Budew bounced forward,, right out front into battle position, and unleashed a Water Sport in an attempt to cool her trainer down.
Aislin stiffened as a wave of dirty water washed over the dress and dampened her curls back to straight and stringy. Definitely not getting that deposit back now, "Thanks......Hal, Zelus, this is Chloris. And she’s just volunteered to go first.” she introduced the baby bud with a frown she couldn’t help but to hold back. She wasn’t sending her out first as punishment so much as trying to play fairly - the budew had jumped the gun and used a move that affected the field of play. ”Astrape, stand back here with me on the porch…” she said, still uneasy about types and making a note to buy a book or something as soon as she was out of here.
Astrape saw the unease on her trainer’s face and stood on her tiptoes to grab her Pokedex from the non-period-appropriate purse, holding it up to her. Aislin rolled her eyes at herself, ”Right, yes, of course! Duh! Thanks Astrape.” she said aloud and laughed, patting Astrape on the back for a job well done and pulling up info on all four Pokemon in play to study as she waited for her next turn. Looks like the water sport made a few mud puddles - something Astrape would need to avoid. Apparently she was fine against water but wet ground would...well..ground her electric moves. Neat...Budew just fucked our team up along with this dress...but we’re learning together at least.

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? Hal snickered to herself as the woman's - Aislin's - Budew put herself into play with a rather unfortunate spray of water all over the pink and white of her dress. Which, the more Hal looked at it, seemed like it would be sweltering in the heat. For the moment she refrained from the really helpful suggestion of 'maybe you should just take it off,' but that wouldn't last forever. Give her five minutes and she'd feel comfortable enough to say pretty much anything. You'd think it wouldn't make her friends, but surprisingly she did well enough. Even if it wasn't always with the... right sorts. But who decided who the rights sorts were, anyway? After a moment, Hal clapped her hands definitively together. "Well, I do love a volunteer. Zelus, you do your thing. I'd give you pointers but you'd probably just ignore me anyway." Quite frankly, Hal wasn't really a fan of the Weedle. While Hal didn't need a goody-goody, she wasn't a fan of a creature that would betray its family, no matter the reason. Hal settled herself against a broken hitching post, attention almost completely shifting from her Pokemon to the other trainer. Even studying from afar was more interesting than watching a young Weedle try not to get squished. Like Aislin had said, she looked like old money, younger daughter... but Hal was quite capable of looking beneath the surface of a costume. She wouldn't have looked bad at all in Hal's own get-up, though perhaps she wouldn't have been quite as comfortable in it. "Hey, you hot in that?" she called over, grin spreading on her face. Ross still hopped around at her feet, seeming to be completely ignoring Hal's earlier orders. Stupid newborns. Zelus herself had wiggled into a position to face off against the Budew, Chloris. Her trainer's words hadn't been wrong - she definitely wasn't going to be listening to her right now. She was still angry about the circumstances of her capture, and the best thing Hal could do in proving she wasn't the sort of trainer to chain her down was ironically to do this - to allow Zelus to work with her own strength. Even if she didn't feel the woman had much regard for her at all. It might change... when she did. When she evolved. She hadn't seen it often before, but she knew it came on quickly in a fight. Her kind were survivors, and she would prove that. She ducked her head in a small bow, white horn pointed toward the grass-type in salute, then started the only way she could. < Ready or not, Chloris! > she said, and immediately started the ball rolling with a String Shot in the direction of the Budew. Quite frankly, the Weedle was not a hardened veteran in a fight. She'd hardly fought at all, ever. She only knew the rudimentary attacks that she'd used to defend herself occasionally in the wild, and that was what she had to rely on now. Following up her first attack, the Weedle charged forward, looking for a landed Poison Sting. Hal's team has a Lucky Egg in effect.ZelusFemale - Swarm - Level 4 Poison Sting - String Shot Level 4 -> 5 (642/175), 5 -> 6 (467/200), 6 -> 7 (267/225), 42/250 to level 8 Zelus learns Harden upon evolutionWord Count: 514 Tag: fitz Notes: The dress is great xDD Weedle off to cocoon herself next post :O

Aislin smirked at the exchange between the other trainer and the squirming larvae in the street. They already had quite the rapport, even if it seemed to be one of disdain and sarcasm - they at least knew where they stood. She had yet to realize the budew would only evolve once her friendship level was raised - battling made her stronger but as far as making her anything but a bulb with a bib...not so much.
She flicked through some menus on the ‘dex, unwisely splitting her attention between the screen and the battle that began with a couple of decent moves from Zelus which she completely missed, engrossed in the stats on the screen. She heard the comment from Hal, asking if she was hot and giggled, not looking up from the device as she retorted, ”Yep...I’m hot out of it too!”
Chloris’s fronds flared out in panic as her mouth and most of her face were covered by a squeezing wrap of strings. She didn’t even see Zelus as she hurdled straight at her with that big horn,, only felt the pain as it sliced through part of the string to graze her rosehips. She fell over and rolled, struggling to wriggle out and only making it worse.
< All tied up! And poisoned! Oh nooo! > Astrape squealed, starting to run out into the battle herself before Aislin grabbed her paw and jerked her back to sit beside of her on the steps they were on before actually processing what had happened, acting only on instinct when she’d stopped the elekid, ”Poison?! Poison…” she brought up the weedle’s stats. ”Poison sting, String shot...damn..” she looked up in surprise at the weedle, her mouth pulling down into an impressed mug. Astrape tapped the buttons herself to pull up Chloris’s stats, a tell-tale purple stain on the baby’s side confirming the poison had taken hold. She pointed out one move and then the other and Aislin nodded. For a fashionista, Astrape seemed to have a mind for strategy as well.
”Okay Chloris, it’s alright babydoll, keep calm. Use growth to break the strings and then absorb will keep that poison from draining you too much...I think.” she said, digging through her purse to see if she had an antidote, knowing full well she did not. She’d spent a fortune on cherish balls but healing items? Nah. This is what happened when you sent a coordinator out on a training journey! She panicked a little, seeing two more numbers going up for Chloris’s levels increase. The pokemon had broken free and laid looking marginally better considering her status condition, but suddenly looked incredibly fatigued as if she’d become exhausted.
She stepped onto the field, her dress dragging in the mud as she stooped to scoop Chloris up, ”I’m pulling her out, that was a lot for the little darling. Astrape can step in now. If you want…” she added as an after thought, turning to confirm with the electric type only to see she’d followed her off the stoop and was already standing in Chloris’s place with a grin on her face, excited to battle for the first time. Aislin smiled and turned back to Hal, ”Do you want Zelus to stay in or is….” she concentrated, trying her best to remember the name of the colorfully plumed bird ”This little angel going to get a turn?”
She’d seen the bird eating rocks earlier and had a feeling it may be an easier opponent compared to the weedle. Or who knows, maybe it was some freaking hybrid pidgey that vomited rocks at hyper speed to pelt its opponent. There were probably weirder things in this region - they had ice Vulpix in Alola for crying out loud and rumor had it they could be found here too. So who knew, maybe the spangled bird was full of surprises. Either way she knew she’d be studying her pokemon’s stats before she came into battle. Because this had been a pathetic first attempt..she’d been too busy flirting instead of helping her budew. She cradled the wincing baby close to her taffeta bosom and went back to sit with her on the porch. ”Ready when you are!”

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? 'Yep... I'm hot out of it too!' Hal raised an eyebrow, a grin pulling at her lips. Maybe it was just the illusion of the dress, but she wasn't sure she'd expected the woman to flirt back. Mild curiosity turned into interest, something more acute now that she'd gotten a real response. Something similar to a dog, really, which would go around to every human, licking each hand, but only becoming truly excited when that hand pet back. Except this dog was more like a wolf, and licking hands wasn't quite what she had in mind. Not that it was off the table. But Aislin's attention turned back to the fight, so Hal was forced to drag hers back there as well. For now. She had to admit that Zelus was good enough in a fight, had a cool enough head to do the job. Strategically, she needed developed - but Hal felt that that was partially because of her wormy restrictions. She'd only ever had so many weapons at her disposal, and she hadn't had a lot of practice. She'd lived her life surrounded by others, being told what to do. But she'd done well for herself, using the String Shot to slow and befuddle the Budew so she could rush in and nail it with the Poison Sting. The Budew, Hal could tell, was overwhelmed - panicked by her situation. But she listened to her trainer's instructions, breaking away the rest of the strings and using the Absorb to suck some energy from Zelus, who winced and wiggled back. It wasn't incredibly effective against her, but that didn't mean it was pleasant. It was good that the little grass-type had learned to counter, at least. Zelus needed to learn to be prepared for that counter. Zelus felt odd. Like her insides were hot, moving around, shifting. It was incredibly unfamiliar, and at first she froze, wondering if it was something the Budew was doing. But no, that wasn't it. Then it dawned on her. "She can stay in for now, Ross won't be much of a fight when I do get her out here," Hal was saying, but she frowned as the Weedle suddenly started moving at some speed through the puddles and up the railing of the closest building to the arena. She climbed to the overhang of the wooden porch, clearly within sight - and started changing. Cloaked in light, the Weedle transformed from its tiny wormy shape to a larger, yellow form of a cocoon. Hal had seen evolution before, but this was her first experience in Inset. The Kakuna was strung from the overhang by silk, completely immobile except for the occasional breeze causing her to sway. Hal thought it probably wouldn't make her accuracy hugely great. "Uhhh... yeah, she still stays in." As far as she remembered, Kakuna could still fight despite being a temporary, intermediate form. < Just try to crack me, > came the voice from the Kakuna, smug and cocky from her self-made prison. Hal raised an eyebrow, gestured to Zelus with a flapping wave of her hand as if to say 'go ahead' to the Elekid, and stepped away from where she had settled to get a better view. The Kakuna had no expression, none that could be seen on her stiff features. She used Harden, knowing that any attack from the Elekid would likely hurt - but she was so giddy with the freedom she knew would come soon. Even if she felt trapped now, soon would comes wings and power and she felt like she was on top of the world. As it had worked out well the last time, the Kakuna let poison barbs grow from her shell, then ejected them toward the opposing Elekid as a Poison Sting. "She's not the most exciting thing to watch," Hal couldn't help but comment. At least the monotony would be over when this form was. Aislin jiggled Chloris, bouncing her a bit in one arm in an attempt to raise her spirits, cradling her like a fussy infant. In her other hand was the pokedex, her eyes flying through the information she had at her fingertips before the battle began. She glanced up only when Hal mentioned the Weedle would stay in. She chewed on the inside of her lip, hoping it wasn’t a worm of habit that would poison a second pokemon. Then the worm started...convulsing and running around like mad, she shuddered as it scuttled up to the porch roof and evolved. ”Well that was...fast.” she said with a frown.
Why hadn’t her budew gone through a similar change? She looked back to her stats and saw she evolved through friendship....well...hell. So much for that. She would be stuck with the baby for awhile if she couldn’t make time for quality time together. And she had a feeling sending her into battle to be poisoned and become exhausted wasn’t exactly the best thing to rack up friendship points. Just in case, she double checked Astrape’s info to make sure she wasn’t about to do the same damn thing here - not that she wanted Elekid to evolve...she couldn’t stand her next form aesthetically and would be keeping her a baby in perpetuity!
< Aw, I don’t wanna crack you! You’ve gotta stay in there and cook a little while, silly! > Astrape said, bouncing in place a little too close to one of the puddles. But then the razor sharp needles shot out of the bug’s outer wrapping and Elekid, in a panic, used Thundershock, singing them in midair. ”Holy shit, Astrape! Nice! Quick Attack!” Aislin cried in disbelief, laughing a little too hard at how badass that had looked. The little horns on the elekid’s head had charged to life with a sizzle as her arms wound in circles to generate power and just BOOM! ZAP! Aislin was beginning to warm up to the idea of how great those types of moves would look in a contest. Maybe Electabuzz wasn’t so godawfully ugly after all….or it was still and she would just get used to it or over it if it meant more ribbons.
Astrape gasped when she saw the result of the move she’d used on instinct and clenched her claws together, kicking off from the ground to run with everything in her at the dangling pokemon, taking a swing to try to knock her down….and falling short by about five feet when she slipped in the mud only halfway across the arena. "Oof...shake it off, hon! You're still in the game!" Aislin groaned inwardly at the cheesy pep talk. When had she become a soccer mom?

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? Yeah, projectiles from a swaying houseplant weren't incredibly accurate, but Hal couldn't complain. She was actually pretty impressed by the Elekid's cool head and reflexes, burning the needles straight out of the air with her Thundershock. Less impressed, though, by the spectacular face-plant into the mud. But children will be children. Zelus was certainly acting like one, squealing around inside of her shell as she swayed on the breeze. "You're an embarrassment," Hal sighed, but her voice didn't have any bite. Realistically she was pretty happy with the bug, though she wasn't going to admit it to her face. As it was, though, she was honestly kind of bored with the restrictive nature of the Kakuna. "You know Astrape, I think you're right. I think she should come back and cook for a bit." When they got back on the route, she'd see about getting her cracked out of that cocoon. She pulled out her Pokeball and zapped the bug back in, safely stored for the time being. Which left one. And Hal wasn't feeling particularly confident about her newest child. The Pidgey hadn't shown any signs of speaking, and barely seemed to understand what was being said to her. So she was, uh... not quite the ideal battle partner at the moment. "Go on, Ross. Do you think you could try a Tackle? Just try a Tackle." It probably wouldn't end badly. Probably. Hal picked the bird up and pushed her toward the Elekid, pointing and miming a running motion. Ross blinked up at her, then looked at the other Pokemon. She flapped her wings, fumbling forward a few inches off the ground toward the Elekid before bouncing back down. No flight still, which was awesome. "Ross, you could just run at her," Hal suggested, but the bird seemed to be on its own course. Flopping, flapping, trying to fly at the electric-type... who could zap her pretty easily. Well, kids had to learn not to stick their hands in fire. If she ever actually made it to Astrape, the Tackle wouldn't be much more than a bumbling headbutt. Astrape looked up when Hal addressed her directly, not used to grown-ups talking to her and not about her with the exception of Aislin. She couldn’t help but to give her a little grin through the impromptu mud mask and watch as the Weedle - no...not anymore, Kakuna! - nyoomed back into her ball with one last cackle. < Wow, she’s really excited about evolving. I’m happy for her! > Astrape said, trying to hurry and swipe the mud off of her face as Ross seemed to concentrate on concentrating on what Hal was saying. She watched as the bird was hefted up and encouraged to run at her. Astrape had seen on the pokedex info screen that it was just a baby, really, and that would explain a lot. She was a baby pokemon herself, literally, but she felt a little like a grownup to not be a newborn.
Aislin sat cradling Chloris and watching the pitiful flip flap of Ross, waiting to see if Astrape would end it, not giving any commands herself. And then, to her surprise, the elekid toddled forward to meet the Pidgey halfway, letting the bird thud gently into her lightning bolt, carefully keeping her claws away from the baby’s feathers. < Oof! > Astrape cried, falling back into the mud exaggeratingly, < You got me Ross! > she confirmed, staring up out of the mud as her horns sizzled. Her tone was more encouraging than patronizing, and she couldn’t help the smile still on her face, < Gonna try a thundershock! Oh noooo! > she rolled in the mud, a few sparks flying out but leading nowhere big. Nothing like the last time she’d used the move.
”Alright, alright.” Aislin said, rubbing her temple. How did she luck out with getting a pokemon that would throw her own battle? Oh well...it was still pretty sweet, she had to admit. ”Use a leer to get that winged beast away so you can right yourself!”
Astrape groaned, she was having too much fun in what should have been her mortal enemy, and sat up in the mud puddle she was in to narrow her eyes and do her most convincing glower at the bird, scrambling up and away as she did so.

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? While Hal wouldn't have been mad, really, if the Elekid would have just asserted dominance and knocked the little bird straight out, it was quite frankly really nice that she was playing along with training the Pidgey. Since Aislin wasn't the one giving direction, it said a lot about the Pokemon's own nature. She was mature for her size, at least. On Ross' end, she butted right into the Elekid with her tri-colored crown, bouncing back onto the ground just as Astrape went down as well. She flapped her wings, getting herself back onto her feet instinctively, and her feathers puffed unconsciously at the other Pokemon's praise. After all, while her Momma was nice to her, there weren't many other Pokemon to play with! Eva was the best, she played with her all the time, but this was so much more fun! Eva treated her like a baby, but this Pokemon was giving her a fight! She squawked at the electric sparks that jumped up from the other Pokemon in retaliation, not quite understanding that 'electric' was bad but knowing that the snaps and crackles made her feathers stand on end. She hardly even needed the Leer to cause her to hop backward a few feet, chirping at her opponent. She wasn't ready for speech quite yet, but she was understanding everything quite well! Or well enough. She flapped her wings again, rising a good few feet of the ground this time - maybe a Tackle from above! - but she lost control, dropping back down still a foot or two from the Elekid. When she hit the ground, something very un-Pidgey-like occurred. As the air was knocked from her chest, what could only be described as a burp of flame and heat left her beak. Hal leaned forward, suddenly incredibly interested in this play session. The Heat Wave was infantile, and would only have brushed the Elekid with some hot air if it struck at all, but that was hardly the point. That fun little mystery egg was turning into the best thing Hal had ever found. "You brilliant little bird!" Hal couldn't help but sigh, even though Ross looked as confused as anything. Hal imagined that probably felt like a bad case of acid reflux... Astrape couldn’t resist the face-splitting grin that broke out at the sight of Ross seeming to be pleased with the battle so far. The elekid knew she could have ended it easily, zapped the birdy and been done with it. But there was no fun in that, nothing to learn for either of them. And that’s what they were here for, right? To learn and grow stronger! So why be a bully and take the easy way out?
She couldn’t help but to admire the pretty plumage on the pidgey’s forehead, holding her breath and bracing for impact of another soft tackle only to see her fall back to the ground, and was just about to ask about the oddly colored feathers out of curiosity and to help her recover from the embarrassing landing when the heat wave washed over her. It was already hot in this arena but that was something different! She felt it set her horns a crackling and attempted to blink away the stinging sensation that was drying out her eyes. It wasn’t quite as hot as it could have been but it was markedly different and utterly unexpected.
Aislin sat up, utterly perplexed and shook her head, ”What...the hell was that??” she called out, a healthy mix of jealousy, disbelief, and genuine admiration in her voice. Astrape clapped and whistled, < Wowee Ross! Oh, hey, you okay? > she added, seeing the look of what appeared to be indigestion on her little birdy face.

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? It was pretty obvious from the little bird's face that she was unsettled, her little face screwing up as if fighting back upset tears. Hal drummed her fingers on her knee, offering neither reassurance nor reprimand. Honestly, her thoughts were far from the current play-fight. She'd known Ross had a mutation, that was obviously enough from her appearance, but this potential for a completely unconventional fire-type move was something else altogether. It would be invaluable. Unexpected. It could give her an edge where none may be perceived. Aislin had been surprised as well, at least, so this wasn't one of those weird gaps in Hal's knowledge. Interesting. When she did draw her attention back to the little bird, Hal grimaced and rose from her perch. "Enough, Ross, it's fine. We're done with that." There was no point in trying to get the shaken bird to focus now. She wouldn't learn anything when she was that upset. Leaving Ross to very likely be coddled by the zippy electric-type, Hal made her way over to where the other woman was standing. She lounged against the steps, crossing one long leg over the other, and gave a grin. She couldn't say she was particularly comfortable, with the restrictive clothing and curtain of hair making her sweat, but this hadn't been a bad outing in the least. She wasn't in a particular hurry to end it. She gestured toward the woman's purse, which had a distinctive outline of 'egg' weighing on it. "Have anything fun in there? Because I'm pretty sure mine's a dud." She patted the side of her bag absently, where the unassuming grey egg lay forever quiet. She'd had it for what seemed like forever, but it hadn't showed a single sign of life. She'd started having notions of selling it as some sort of themed paperweight... "But then again, I'd thought Ross was fairly boring as well, but look at her go." Not that it was the bird's fault. She'd see pretty much anything baby and bumbling as being boring. Aislin considered withdrawing her pokemon back to their balls now that the battle seemed to be over, but Astrape had closed the distance between her and the baby bird and pet her red, white, and blue plumage in an attempt at reassurance. Aislin couldn’t help but to smile at the sight. Her starter was going to be such a good big sister to all the babies they would have running around soon. Her attention then turned to the other trainer and she took a step or two back to retreat to the porch behind her that she’d come off of, taking a seat again. She wasn’t sure what she was expecting from this woman but her experiences with bitchy coordinators (herself included) told her she should be wary if someone walked a little too confidently up to you after any kind of match.
What she hadn’t seen coming was the friendly exchange and question about her eggs. ”Oh, um. Well this is supposed to be a purrloin but….so was the koffing egg….” she rolled her eyes, remembering that, ”SO I guess I’ll see there. And this one I’ve got no idea, some mysterious guy gave it to me. He had a whole slew of them that all looked the same. It was mid-summer and he said he was trying to offload them because he wouldn’t be able to take care of all the hatchlings. The rest I’ve got no idea. I just bought a bunch from an adoption center and private sales. I don’t know what made me think I should get so many at once. I’ll be overrun with newhatches - but hopefully it’ll be worth it. I’m not too good at the whole battling wild pokemon and capturing them thing. I’d rather build a relationship from the start, you know?”
At the mention of Ross and the unexpected show she nodded, ”Yeah that was really….something. I guess it was an egg move?”

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? Ross didn't miss the effort of the Elekid, bumping her head up with a small hiccup and pulling herself together. She didn't want to seem like a... a baby in front of her new friend! She fluttered her wings, plumping them up and resettling, then rubbed her head happily against the staticky belly of Astrape. Then she perked up, feathers sticking up a bit from the electricity, then flapped and 'flew' to her trainer. She noticed the eggs the other trainer held up quickly, and chattered happily - though completely illegibly - when the kin egg passed by. Like called to like, after all. Hal raised an eyebrow at her Pokemon's odd little babble of chirps. She herself missed the similarities in the egg - likely because she'd hardly paid attention to her own to begin with. "Yes yes, she has pretty things," the woman said dismissively, pulling out her own egg and turning it around in her hands. "This one is... well, it's obviously a rock of some sort. Someone gave it to me." She thought on Aislin's words, only able to shake her head with a small smile. She'd always very much preferred the fighting, the thrill of it - the bonding with both her Pokemon and the wild ones through a battle of wills, strength on strength. She wasn't cut out for this 'raising children' thing, but it was a necessary evil when starting out in a new region. At least Gavin and Adonis were strongly aware, even if her Cleffa absolutely drove her up a wall. "Not me. I'm always itching for a good fight. Which is why egg moves are completely beyond my knowledge," she said shamelessly, shrugging. "I feel like heat should be a bit beyond a Pidgey even with an egg move or whatever, but I guess wonders never do cease." She paused, a thought striking. "So if you're not into battling and catching, what are you looking to do? The, ah... shows? Constests, whatever you call them." It made sense, she supposed. Her Pokemon didn't necessarily give off an aggressive vibe, after all. Hal's team has a Lucky Egg in effect.Word Count: 351 Tag: fitz Notes:
