Pump up the jamPump it up
Though being alone on her trip to Inset had given Marcia a lot of time to think about being homesick and missing her family, now that she was here her homesickness was the furthest thing from her mind. There had been two options presented to her as she'd arrived on how she could obtain her starting Pokemon: she could either pick one from the lab, or she could catch one out at the ranger waypost. Though the lab was conventional and how she'd always pictured herself starting out, the idea of meeting and taming a Pokemon on her own was incredibly appealing. If the Pokemon wanted to fight, she was sure she would be more than a challenge for most creatures she would run into. If she had to wrestle one down to the ground herself, she would gladly do it.
It was with thoughts like these that Marcia arrived at the ranger waypost, wiping a thin sheen of sweat from her brow as she trekked up to the entrance. She adjusted the straps on her backpack, shrugging her shoulders a little before resettling it. She'd brought a couple of lighter weights with her so she could still train at least a little bit on the road, though they did make her backpack rather heavy. It was nothing she couldn't handle, though she wished she could have brought along some heavier weights as well. If she were lucky, she might find a heavy Pokemon she could bench press with.
Without further ado Marcia loudly made her way into the outpost, a wide grin stretching from cheek to cheek. "Hello!! I'm here to get my starting Pokemon!! I don't know what the rules are, but I can handle myself just fine! Just throw me out there and I can take care of it! No need to trouble yourselves on my behalf anyway. You'll probably just get in my way!" She laughed a hearty, boisterous laugh as she stepped up to the counter with her Trainer ID out and ready. She wanted to get started as soon as possible.

Mae was shuffling supplies around the closet, handing bandages and potions back to Ravina while simply reordering some others. It had to be done every once in awhile, with things constantly just being pulled out and thrown back in, and Mae didn't really mind doing it. It was practically habit, since her two boys had made cleaning up after others second nature for her at home. Her Mienshao was endlessly patient as ever, and also just as perceptive - she was the one that heard the approach of someone outside. < Incoming, > she warned quietly, and Mae barely had time to register before the woman burst through the door - and let out quite the monologue. Ravina tsked, and wasn't quiet about making a comment of < Rude, > but Hal simply shushed her and smiled at the new trainer's exuberance. Maybe when she was younger she'd have taken some offense, but she had a much greater sense of humor about such things now. "I'm sorry to say I can't just toss you out there, it's against the rules, but we'll do our best to keep from being underfoot." There wasn't any bite to her words, just good humor as she went behind the desk, pulling out the necessary paperwork on a clipboard.
"Would you mind filling these out for me? I'm Mae, by the way, and this is Ravina. We'll be taking you out into the biomes to help find your new partner." She placed the clipboard and a pen across the desk, flashing a smile at the younger woman. "I'll explain the other rules in a moment, but the biggest one is that the first Pokemon you come across out there is the only one you'll get an opportunity to try and catch. Are you alright with that?" It was surprising how many new trainers came along expecting to go on a hunt through the biomes looking for something specific - Mae found it necessary to point out the rule right away, in case they'd been misinformed or hadn't listened.

Marcia frowned for just a moment, but she understood. Rules were generally rules for a reason, and she didn't want to get this woman in trouble. She sounded nice enough, and though she wanted to just let loose out there it was probably for the best if she had some supervision. What if she got lost? She would be fine if she got attacked because she could easily defend herself from most things. Then again, she couldn’t really punch fire or grapple it to the ground. That’d probably hurt. She eyed the Mienshao and nodded. “Guess that makes sense. It’s not a big deal as long as you let me do my thing out there,” she replied, eyes following Mae as she walked behind the desk to grab something.
Marcia took the clipboard and started filling out the sections as quickly as she could. Her penmanship was atrocious, but that wasn’t any different from normal. Even if she took her time with it it’d still look the same. Hopefully they’d be able to make out enough of the information that she wouldn’t have to fill it again; she didn’t want to waste any time here that she could be spending finding her Pokemon. “Nice to meet you Mae, Ravina,” she said smiling and nodding at each of them before going back to filling the paperwork. She listened to Mae’s brief description of the general rule, and she nodded as she set the completed form back on the desk and slid it a little strongly back across the desk to the other woman. She hadn’t meant to launch it like that, but she had difficulty controlling her strength.
“Hey, that’s fine with me! That’s the main reason I decided to come all the way out here rather than go to the lab anyway. More of a challenge that way and that’s what I live for,” she laughed, stretching her arms out a little as she prepped herself. “I’m ready to go when you are! Don’t hold back now, let’s go to the toughest biome you’ve got here.” She was really raring to go.

Mae caught the clipboard with surprising ease, exhibiting the rarely-seen reflexes that came from her job as a Ranger. These biome Pokemon weren't like Lab ones, after all - most of them were still half-feral, and it was only through carefully cultivated personal relationships that they trusted humans. But they did trust, and they were so willing to learn, so they often made surprisingly good companions for new trainers. She skimmed down the paperwork before quickly setting it aside. "Alright, Marcia, let's get moving then. Ravina, will you- yes, thank you. Here is the Pokeball you'll use to catch your Pokemon. Keep on your toes, because some of them aren't particularly friendly, but we'll be there to step in if necessary." She spoke as she walked for the elevator, pressing four buttons on the keypad before stepping inside. Ravina stepped into place beside her, watching the other woman with a bit of distaste - but then again, Ravina viewed most people with distaste, so it wasn't anything personal. It was surprising she and Mae even got along, given how friendly the mother was. The elevator went down then left, shuddering as it came to a stop and the doors opened again. The biome was rocky but filled with tough plant life, like those one might find at high elevations. Mae gestured the woman forward, though it only took a few moments for a Pokemon to become apparent. Mae smiled to herself, covering the expression with a hand. It was anchored to a large rock, slowly swaying as if it still lived in its ancient underwater home. Its eyes, when it focused on them, were gleaming yellow. The Lileep had been itching to find a trainer for weeks, and it had apparently managed to 'uproot' itself and slowly but surely to get as close to the elevator as it could. The fossil Pokemon was surprisingly eager to experience life - a second life - though many of its brethren preferred to stay stationary for most of their lives. This one had dreams of grandeur. Mae hung back, waiting to see what the trainer would do - hoping, silently, that it would go well. It was rare to find a Pokemon with such uninhibited enthusiasm, even if it was too shy to call out to them in the beginning.. -- [googlefont=Open+Sans]

Marcia Liosi Wrestling Extraordinaire
As Marcia was handed the Pokeball a renewed fire was lit in her heart. This was it- it was finally happening! It hadn’t felt really real until she had the object in her hands. She was only half listening to the rest of Mae’s explanation as she ran her thumb over the Pokeball’s smooth surface. “Huh? Oh, right! Right, I gotcha. I’ll be careful, but I really can handle myself. I’ve wrestled an Arcanine down to the ground before,” she laughed, though she knew better than to really compare Ruby’s playing with how aggressively a wild Pokemon might be. They were wild for a reason, after all. “…Though it’s nice to know you guys'll have my back. Thanks,” she finished, shooting the two of them a big smile as they made their way over to the elevator.
Marcia took a deep breath as she stepped inside and the doors closed; she had mild claustrophobia, so she closed her eyes as the elevator dropped down so she could try to forget just how closed in the elevator was. Her eyes snapped open again though as suddenly she felt the elevator start traveling in another direction, planting herself flat against one of the walls as the ride finished up. It was kind of embarrassing, but she wasn’t going to admit to it, even if she probably looked a little silly.
Finally the elevator shuddered to a halt and she didn’t need any further prompting to scurry outside, It took her a few moments of catching her breath before she finally got a good look around the immediate area. It was then that she spotted the little tree slowly waving back and forth as if there were a light breeze blowing. However, there was no breeze blowing and she was pretty sure there was a pair of yellow eyes on it staring at them. It looked sort of familiar; maybe something she’d seen at that museum back in Pewter on a field trip ages ago.
“Hey! You there!” she called out to the Lileep, “Yeah, you! Do you know the rules here? I’m gonna have to fight you or something now so you can come with me!” She couldn’t really sense out the Lileep’s enthusiasm, as Marcia was only really good at reading words and action. She itching for action, assuming a powerful stance as she faced the Lileep down. She would be ready for anything it threw at her.

The Lileep studied the trainer, confused and excited all in one little rock flower package. He'd never been told... he never thought... was he supposed to fight a human? Was that allowed? It seemed strange, but the trainer seemed really gung-ho about it and Mae gave a nod from behind her back. Mae generally thought that, ah, talking was normally the best way to go about it, but Marcia seemed a physical sort, putting it lightly. And the Lileep was a rock-type, so she couldn't really do him any damage. It was harmless enough, and it might actually help them to bond. The Lileep waved its little tentacle-petals, urging the human closer. Its best long-distance attack was Acid, and that was probably a really bad idea against a human. So he needed her closer - which had to be best for her anyway. She had no projectiles, unless she started throwing rocks at him.
If she got close enough, the Lileep didn't have a whole lot at his disposal, but he did have a few moves he could use! He could use his petals to grab hold of her and squeeze, and because he wasn't very strong yet he probably wouldn't hurt her. He could also scare her, maybe knocking her backward, which would be the funniest option. He was the type to do something like that, and was often found hiding just so he could startle the other Pokemon as they went by. < If you want to fight, then let's do it! > he said excitedly, voice indiscriminately coming from somewhere in the darkness of his cup-shaped body.
