» TAGGED, admin-types » WORD COUNT, 276 Vivien nervously shifted his bag up onto his shoulder, hating the fact that his palms were sweating and his stomach was turning with anxiety - hating more that he was almost ready to just turn around because of it. Traitor body and traitor mind. The bag slipped again. He swore, swallowing hard, shoved it back up, and went through the door.
His mother had once told him that there was no reason for you to be brave when it's someone else's job to be brave for you. Police and firemen and the like. Which was all well and good - Vivien didn't fancy himself any sort of hero - but when it came to taking his first steps into his new life, there was no one to hide behind.
And maybe that was a good thing.
The first thing he thought of the lab was 'it's beautiful'. Not necessarily in the traditional sense - it was a bit cluttered perhaps, and somehow also too antiseptic, but the flashing of mechanical lights and the whirring of machinery reached a chord within him that fought back the anxiety. His fingers itched, not for the door, but to play with the buttons and knobs and to search for the Pokemon he could hear chirping out of sight. Perhaps that was what he'd needed - a distraction.
Of course, it meant he looked just like the country bumpkin that he was, standing there and gawking at the room around him. He caught himself, though, closing his mouth with a flush. "Hello?" he called a bit more quietly than he probably needed to in order to actually be noticed.
Baby steps.

She was having a rather peaceful day. Cleaning up and preparing the lab for the summer rush of new trainers that would inevitably be coming. It was a busy time of year but that was a good thing. She wanted all of the Pokemon to have a wonderful time out adventuring. And she hoped that one day some of them would even come back to tell her about it. But for now it was sweeping the floor to make sure that it was clean for anyone who came in. And of course someone did as she was just putting the finishing touches on making sure everything looked at least presentable. After they closed for the night she would be able to get some actual deep cleaning done.
At least today she had a helper. A Chikorita was using her vines near the wall to put away some of the books that had been brought down during a demonstration for some of the younger kids in the village. The lab took the time to educate them on the Pokemon in the area and what to do if they encountered a wild one. Being closer to the door she was the first to notice that someone had come in. < Hello! Can I help you? > With a smile the grass type set the rest of the books down and stared up at him expectantly. The small nubs on her neck were a slightly darker color than normal but other than that she seemed to be perfectly normal and perfectly willing to help.
It was then that Mirae noticed they were no longer alone and set the broom aside to see what the hubbub was about. "Oh! Welcome to the lab! Are you here for a starter?" They looked to be the type. After all, she'd seen her fair share of trainers since she started not so long ago. While she still bumbled some in just the short amount of time she had become much more competent. The other assistants had even complimented her on her development. "If you're looking for anything in particular I'll try to accommodate!" After all matching up the right Pokemon to person was part of her job!
your other starter options will be spawned in the next post! do you know what the scariest thing is?

Movement close to the ground made Vivien start, hand tightening on the strap of his bag, but then his nervousness practically evaporated. At his feet was a Chikorita, which nimbly set down the books it had been carrying with its slender vines and looked up at him with its large red eyes. < Hello! Can I help you? > she asked, and Vivien felt a little thrill of excitement. It wasn't that he'd never been around Pokemon - Fortree was full of them, of course - but the types and species had been so limited. He'd only seen most Pokemon in books. Vivien's smile was wide and unrestrained as he squatted down, face propped in his hands. "You're beautiful," he sighed happily, not noticing that he was being quite rude and not even answering the creature to boot.
He did notice, however, more movement further into the lab and stood hastily as a girl came over. Pretty, welcoming, enough so that he didn't feel quite as embarrassed as he could have. He looked between she and the little grass-type, then raised one hand to rub the back of his neck. "Ah, yes, actually. A starter, I suppose. A man outside said this was the place, so I guess that's right." And now he was babbling like an idiot. He swallowed, shifted his weight, then tried again. "I don't know exactly what I'm looking for, but I figure you won't let me go too wrong."
It wasn't quite a lie. He'd of course had some ideas, flipping through books and his mother's old Pokedex. He'd changed his mind almost daily, there was so much to choose from. But really, what did he know about what was best? He'd finally decided he'd just let the nice people at the Lab point him in the right direction. His eyes did slide down to the helpful Chikorita, though. He'd always been fond of grass-types. MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Chikorita giggled some and covered a bashful face with her head leaf. It wasn't very often that someone called her beautiful. In fact, she didn't think anyone had ever called her beautiful beyond the lab assistants. And that was more cute and pretty than anything. Rather than being called beautiful. It was a new experience for her and she was pretty sure she enjoyed it. < T-thank you! > But she was off track now more than ever with the compliment. Luckily Mirae had came along when she did or nothing would have gotten done. She was of course, the actual lab assistant. "Of course! If you'll fill out these papers then I'll have starters for you right away. Chikorita here can even be one of your options!"
Since they were getting along so well it was fine if he wanted her as an option. Especially since it would do the bookish Chikorita some good to get some experience outside of the lab. Chikorita hurried and grabbed one of the clipboards with her vine, offering it up to the man to fill out so that they could get starter. Mirae set to grab a few Pokeballs, feeling spring should have lasted longer she picked to match that. First was one of her favorite Pokemon, a Treecko. Though she was gone in a flash as she quickly climbed up one of the walls and stared down from the ceiling instead. She liked heights and it was easier to scope out the lay of the land.
The third was a Snivy, thick glasses resting on his nose as he blinked and looked around. < Oh, I'm here again... > This wasn't his first time around... Nor if he was chosen would it be his first time out. The young Snivy had been brought back once already by a trainer who decided that he wasn't for him. All because he needed his glasses to battle and it was a hassle to keep track of them. Plus they were apparently uncool or something according to the trainer. Snivy moved carefully, climbing up into one of the coffee table chairs and sitting down. It had been a long time since he'd been offered up as a choice... And that worried him. < Hello. >

It was a big, closed-lipped smile that kept working its way onto Vivien's face as he tried, in this lab full of distractions, to pay attention to what the assistant was trying to tell him. He did catch, though, that the bashful little Chikorita would be one of his options to take as his own. He took the clipboard when offered, again drawn to the slim vines by what really rocked up to be a mixture of pleasing aesthetics and a scientific interest. "Thank you," he hummed, glancing down at the rows on the questionnaire. He absently grabbed a pen off of the table, filling it out idly as he continued to glance up at the assistant flitting around. Name, age, address. All so much more mundane than the things that vied for his attention.
A flash of light and she let loose a skittering Pokemon, a flash of green and red flitting at speed up the wall and onto the ceiling, looking down with its discerning yellow eyes. 'Suction cups on the fingers,' he thought gleefully, and he could only look away from the Treecko when another flash of light drew him. Yet another green creature, except this one was charmingly outfitted with glasses on his long upturned nose. He spoke with a bit of melancholy, but reminded Vivien of nothing more than an introverted five-year-old as he pulled himself up onto the nearby chair. It was likely just his size that made Vivien think it, but he couldn't help it. "Hello to you both," Vivien said, smiling in greeting. Even being polite, though, he couldn't stop his eyes from their examination of these Pokemon he'd never seen before. Was it rare for a Snivy to have bad eyesight? If so, how exactly did this one get so unlucky? As it was, Vivien was fairly certain he wouldn't be taking the little one with him - though he hated to make others upset, he was too green as a trainer to do well by the Snivy and keep him safe. "It's very nice to meet you."
He straightened, setting the paperwork to the side, and slipped his bag onto the ground. He looked back to the woman. "My name is Vivien," he said, idly tapping the paperwork with one finger. "To be honest, all I really have to go on is my instinct, since I'm obviously pretty new at this." He looked away and down, and got low again to the Chikorita's level. "What do you think? You seem very good at helping here, so I wouldn't want to take you away if this is where you want to be. I do think we could be friends, though." MADE BY ★MEULK OF GS

Like so many other times the process went much more quickly that she had expected. Of course she had noticed that the two had a bond when they walked in so it couldn't be helped. She knew that it was hard pressed to find a trainer for some of the Pokemon here but she wasn't going to stop trying to find them the perfect of perfect partners. < I would love to come with you! Just let me get my bag! > She had a little bag she had prepped for this situation at least. Tucked away in the corner was the canvas knapsack with a leaf clumsily painted on it. She had made it during craft time! < I'm ready to go! > The leaf on her head swished in excitement. It was going to be a fun time!
female - o5 - chikoritaovergrowtackle; growl
Although hard to notice at first one of the more interesting things about this normal looking Chikorita is that the bulbs on her neck are darker colored than a normal one. Upon evolution to her final stage her flower will be a much darker mahogany color instead of the vibrant pink. Chikorita enjoys books and organization. Her adventure bag is full of things that she thinks she might need on an adventure including snacks and a compass. She gets bashful and shy easily when complimented on appearance. Finding herself getting red and hiding her face with her leaf. She's not focused on getting strong really, but would rather catalog things inside her adventure journal. you also receive:
