words 716 tag @stafferz notes she likes water types, but you don't have to hold her to that; broaden her horizons a bit. | Something like nostalgia hit her like a ton of bricks and she wasn't even sure why. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that she'd done this in over six different regions so far. She never stuck around in a region for very long. No, as a matter of fact, every time she went to a new region her Uncle's messenger pidgeotto Paps got frustrated with her. But, she was sure to reassure them both - Paps with a snack and her Uncle with a letter - that she was fine, she was doing well, and that she was healthy and working on something big. What was that something big? Very good question, and she'd let them know the second she figured it out...
For now? A start Pokemon. It was mandatory in every region that when a new trainer entered the region, they start all over again. It made sense, and it was a good challenge. Hana loved it. Moving from region to region to find something new and beautiful about it. This time around, this region was brand new on all spectrums. New to the public, new to her-- it was just new and exciting and she could hardly contain said excitement.
Each of her steps had a small bounce in them that had her blue hair swaying this way or that, along with the tilt of her head and the song she was humming, there was no stopping the happiness that bubbled out of her at the prospect of a new adventure. She was smiling from ear to ear with a smile as warm as the sun, which was a good thing because it happened to be raining... the rain didn't bother Hana, not in the slightest. She had an umbrella on her and managed to walk carefully through the puddles or carefully around them. If she wasn't on her way to make a good first impression with the professor of Inset, she would be hopping and skipping through them. Alas, she had a meet.
Well, it wasn't like she made an appointment, but she had sent in word that she would be there within the week. Which sort of made her wonder when they expected her, or if they expected her. What if they didn't? What if she showed up and her paperwork got lost? The paranoia was done away with by the fact that she assumed such individuals as professors and their assistants must keep things decently tidy and neat or they wouldn't bet so ... professional! That pun might have been a bit much, but it did make her giggle.
The giggle died off and only her sweet smile remained as she opened the door to the professor's lab and walked in. Her umbrella was folded neatly and pushed to be small enough to fit in her backpack. She only fidgeted a few moments with her bag before finally focusing on the lab. Everything in there was so neat, she'd always thought so. She learned a long time ago not to touch things because she was a hazard to herself and whoever worked there if she did manage to touch something she wasn't supposed to. Shiny things usually cost money- that's what she told herself.
So, instead, as she waited for somebody to appear so she could ask them what to do next, she decided to stick her nose where it probably didn't belong. She wasn't snooping, she wasn't prying, but she certainly wasn't waiting patiently either. Not a strong suit, patience. Instead, she looked around the lab and glanced at anything and everything she could- even read a few notes which she might not have been allowed to read. But, her lips were sealed. Who would she tell about one of the ditto's being a bit pale pink instead of the usual purple? Mutations like that are what drove her to want to be here, and it was an interesting prospect that she might get a Pokemon with a slight discoloration. Oh, that thought had her spiraling into a beautiful thought process of what type of Pokemon trio she might get to pick from... she so loved meeting new Pokemon and seeing how they interacted and which one touched her heart in a special way and formed that unbreakable bond. |

The ray of sunshine that had just arrived would be met with the antithesis of positive princess aesthetic. Moments later the stout woman with the severe ponytail and blunt bangs came on into the room, lugging a crate of files that needed sorting for new arrivals. They’d given out so many starters lately their “stock” as it were, was running a little low, and they’d sent out alerts to various shelters, stations, and breeders seeking referrals. Now it was up to assistants like this woman, Tate, to sort through them and find the ones that would be good additions to the roster of starters. In fact, she’d been just about to begin this latest crate when the door had chimed from the front and she’d come shuffling in, bringing her work with her, to see who had arrived. They took walk-ins all the time, but this was honestly a slower part of the day and she’d thought the perfect time to get the menial tasks done - especially considering the downpour outside would deter most people from making this trip. But...so much for that. Add to this already dour outlook the fact that the younger woman was flipping through notes that anybody with some semblance of sense would know was none of their business to look at and well….things weren’t looking so great for Miss Hana. ”I assume you’re here for one of two things - a starter or to steal lab secrets. If it’s the latter, well, I can have the Rangers here in two minutes. But something tells me you were just being a nosey nincompoop - in which case I advise you to walk outside and take a minute to collect your sense, then come back and try this again. And you’re lucky I’m giving you that opportunity.” her words fell out like venom as she was all but seething at this girl.

words 230 notes oh my goodness little miss Tate needs some chocolate | At first, Hana could feel it. Like the cold winter wind coming in from the darkest corner of the room and leering over at her with not only judgement, but disapproval. It made her shiver, but the voice that followed made her jump. Luckily she had enough sense about her not to knock anything over. As a matter of fact, whatever vile she'd been touching was immediately put back where she found it and she was turning toward the cutest stout woman in the world with an apologetic smile on her face. "I'm so sorry!" She whispered at first, holding in the urge to laugh because this woman obviously didn't think whatever she'd done was funny. "Won't happen twice, promise."
Pale and small, her right index finger lifted into the air and she nodded as if assigning herself a task of justice; sheer determination in her eyes. "I'll do just that! Collect myself and--" Her eyes immediately fell to the bundle of things that Tate had in her hand. Maybe this woman was irritated because she had no help, but that thought didn't even cross Hana's mind. No, because to Hana, the woman was irritated because Hana had gone snooping where she did not belong. "Do you need any help with those?" Stretching out her arms, she offered to help hold whatever it was the assistant had in her hands. |

She sat the crate down behind the desk and stood with her hands on her hips, sternly staring her down and waiting to see if she would take the option given to her. She was really pressing her luck here. It was then that she noticed there was a little trail of water tracked in from the door and all over the floor from where Hana had wandered all around. From there she saw the rain had picked up to torrential levels from the sprinkle she’d experienced herself earlier that morning when she came in. The stranglehold on her nerves eased a bit. Maybe this girl was just curious….or socially inept...or both. And she had offered to hold the crate...maybe it had been out of the good of her own heart after all….a little voice in the back of her head told her she couldn’t send the girl out into the rain. Finally she sighed and turned away from her, going to the computer at the desk and having a seat, ”So you never confirmed one way or another - you’re here for a starter? I know you don’t have an appointment or I would have been out here. We accept walk-ins as well….but you’ll need to fill out this paperwork first.” she had no way of knowing that paperwork had been sent ahead, and the fact that it was for a vague non-appointment sometime in the week just meant she would have no idea where to begin to look, and would just have her fill out new paperwork all over again either way out of spite. ”I also need to know if you’ve got any experience with Pokemon. Have you ever had Pokemon and if so where are they now?” she gathered paperwork and clipped it to a board, sitting it and an inkpen on the countertop that rose up and away from the desk. ”I would also be willing to take type preferences into consideration but do ask that you take your time getting to know the pokemon presented to you and select carefully no matter their type….as impatient as you were earlier I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to rush this decision.” she wasn’t even remotely trying to hide her disdain with the interaction. The gung-ho girl would need to learn lessons in patience and decorum sooner or later - better sooner than after she’s got one of their precious pokemon out in the real world.

words 516 notes I'm sorry Hana got carried away a little bit... | That abrupt no had Hana recoiling her hands and fidgeting with her shirt before finally settling to pull her hands behind her he back and lock her fingers together. Obviously she shouldn't have been snooping. She couldn't barely remember what she'd snooped across. Bubbling liquids, notes she didn't understand, and only the mutation was of interest anyway... maybe she wasn't supposed to talk about that? She'd keep that in mind.
Her blue eyes followed Tate's as she looked around the room. She glanced around and winced. Oh, she'd tracked some water in. Odd, she had thought she cleaned her shoes off before entering fully... instead of harping on that, she happily turned her attention back to Tate as she spoke once more, intent on listening to the woman. She was apparently having a rough day and Hana's new goal was to try and make it a little bit better.
"Oh! Yes, a starter, that's why I'm here, sorry." Another apology? She was on a roll. Mentally she kicked herself for not trying to find a check in station or something... "I made an appointment a week or so ago, but it wasn't for a specific day since I wasn't sure on the specifics of traveling from Kalos." A smile was still on her face even as she explained herself, not caring one way or the other if it made the situation better. Honest is hottest... or was that modest? Either way her lack of appointment was her own fault and that was evident in her words.
The paperwork didn't look all that intimidating. She smiled over some of the questions and quickly started to jot down answers to it. Her name, age, and where she hailed from. Memories flashed through her mind with some of them and she felt the nostalgia from earlier that fueled her to snoop all over again. But, this time it only fueled her to find her starter- since snooping was really very frowned upon. Which, honestly, she could understand. Some liked to keep things private. Not everybody was like her, not caring one way or the other what anybody else saw or found out about her. She... really wore everything on her sleeve anyway...
Once again blue eyes moved from their focus to the woman who spoke, the moment she spoke. "Oh! Yes, I've loads of experience. Uh... it's a bit of a long list, actually. I started out in contests and moved into more just training. My previous team was either set free where they wanted, or given to the professor of the region for further studies. It was hard, but they're all very happy. I can write down where I put them, the numbers and places if you need me too..." Her eyes were back down on the paper, and as she was asked about preference, a small laugh left her. "Water is my favorite type, but I'm honestly not picky." She grinned and handed the filled paper back to the assistant. "I'm just excited to start a journey with a new friend! I cannot wait to meet them." |

She nodded, listening to her responses to the rapidfire questions she’d shot off. Tate had a bad habit of doing that sort of thing with incoming trainers, but it always seemed to knock them off their game and get honest off the cuff answers. Distract them with the paperwork then zing in with the interrogation. This time, however, it didn’t seem to faze her. Tate quirked one eyebrow up as Hana fluidly gave her answers, but it was mere moments before she realized just why she felt so at home in a lab and emboldened to snoop around. ”So you just zipped through a region, collected a team and dumped them when you got bored? That doesn’t sound very healthy for any of them, regardless of how you felt!” Tate snapped, falling into her usual way of twisting people’s words to put them on the defensive. But this honestly wasn’t that hard for her, hearing about it, "We give starters for life here, and don't think very highly of anyone who takes this commitment lightly. I'm going to need a good explanation for why we should give you a starter today, some semblance of an idea that this won't turn into a case of...of...SERIAL ABANDONMENT!"Her glasses flew askew and she reached a hand up to adjust them, her chest and neck flush as her blood pressure skyrocketed. She tried her best to get herself back under control, "We're a small region, and the influx of new trainers is exciting but also worrisome when I hear things like this. As I'm sure you can see we're also a small lab, and we can't just let people come in willy-nilly taking these precious pokemon if they're just going to bring them back or let them loose in the wild once you're ready to lead the jetset life again. I'm sure you can provide contact information for whichever region you've come from but if that professor didn't give you a good tear-down for doing what you did then I don't trust their judgement anyway."

words 512 notes Oh dear Lord what has happened here, I'm crying, it's so hysterical.... poor Hana. | In one way or another Hana had touched a nerve. Be it how she was snooping when she entered the room or how she had somehow brought across the idea that she had 'abandoned' her Pokemon in other regions. Somehow this woman wasn't having a good day and Hana certainly wasn't making it better. At this point, Hana wasn't sure if she should be offended at the accusation or whether she should get the poor woman some chocolate...
One thing was clear, she certainly hadn't abandoned her Pokemon in the other regions. She had simply asked them what they wanted to do, how they felt they wanted to grow and moved forward and she allowed them to fulfill their want and dreams... some wanted to stay with her, and she sent in special requests to take them with her across regions. Others wanted to live free. Some wanted to be with other trainers because they connected better with their Pokemon or that trainer better met their goals and needs, and Hana happily gave them over so they would be happy.... it was odd to her how that had somehow been manipulated. Maybe she didn't explain herself well?
After about three solid seconds of confused silence, she shook her head and her brows lightly furrowed, to show she was serious. Well, to show she didn't take the claim of her 'abandoning them' lightly. "I put their needs above my own, I didn't abandon them. They wanted to pursue something else, so I let them. Furthermore, I was able to bring them with me to this new region because of the strict laws here, or I would have." A small huff, and she was leaning back, a small look around the room, then back to the woman. "I'm not coming into your lab to willy-nilly take a Pokemon and abandon it later, I'm here to see if you have a start Pokemon that would be willing to come with me on the journey of a lifetime, to further find itself and create a bond that will last a lifetime. Whether they want to stay with me, or they find a new passion along the journey isn't something that I can control- and I wouldn't want to." A small smile formed. "I'm not a trainer that would for any reason abandon a Pokemon, but I'm not against my Pokemon leaving me if they feel it would be in their better interest. I wouldn't put my own emotions and selfish ambitions above their goals and dreams. That just doesn't seem right to me. If you see that as 'serial abandonment,' then perhaps this region still has a bit more to learn."
She really should have just kept her snooping level down... she'd obviously struck a nerve, and it was spiraling out of control. So, she decided to stay honest, in hopes that maybe she'd explain she wasn't a 'serial abandoner.' And from this point forward it was going to be very hard not to make it her life goal not to be such a thing. |

There are no laws in Inset against bringing Pokemon from other regions!” she took a deep breath, closing her eyes and massaging her temples as a migraine began to brew, “I’m quite certain you are the one who has a great deal more to learn. I hope you’re a fast learner for the sake of yourself and the people you’ll meet in our small and humble region while you’re here. I don’t know how on Earth you got it into your head that you had to ditch your old team before coming here, but you’re incredibly mistaken. People come in all the time with their own Pokemon.” She dropped her hands and turned back to the cabinet, ”Against my better judgement I’m going to write this off as a case of someone being woefully misinformed on Inset and as soon as you’re gone from here I’ll be writing a letter to the Pokemon League to request that they stamp out whatever deep web forum you got that from, to be sure that no other trainers dump their teams before coming here.” She grabbed a ball from one of the rows and depressed the button, releasing a bipedal pokemon with extravagant wings and an intricate lace design where others of his species would have chevron patterns. Hawlucha’s wings were folded, crossed at his chest, and his face was set in the usual solemnly neutral way. < Hello. >

words 207/div] notes oh my goodness that beautiful little hawlucha | Well that was great. Apparently she had been given false information… that was just great. She’d have to complain about that at some point. Maybe write the letter herself- the one Tate mentioned. Instead of further getting into that debate, or whatever it was, with this stout little assistant Hana decided it was best to focus on the fact that she’d pulled a Pokemon out. The Pokemon that emerged had Hana smiling— but then she noticed it.
That mutation. The one she’d read about, the one Inset was famous for. The coordinator in her had her mind immediately thinking of what moves would look beautiful with that mutation. She smiled and moved toward the Hawlucha, smiling, and bending down. She’d never had a Hawlucha on her team before but she definitely wasn’t against broadening her horizons - namely with one so beautifully unique.
“Hello.” She greeted, moving to bend down with her knees together and her arms resting on her knees. One of her hands lifted to press her fingers to her chest as she greeted the Hawlucha. “My name is Hana.” She greeted, bright smile on her face. “I love your wings…” She laughed the compliment out, nervously, because she couldn’t hold in her opinion about them. |

He mimicked her gesture, uncrossing his wings and placing one taloned claw at the end of his wing against his barrel chest. At her compliment he glanced down at his wings which were normal, but he supposed she was talking about the pattern, < Thank you. What is it you wish to accomplish in life? Or at least, in this region in particular? Have you trained many warriors? > he began his own interview. He had a very particular goal himself, one he believed was his destiny, and was adamant that it be something his trainer was willing to put in the work for. If not, they could piss off. The question was asked just as another ball was depressed to release yet another bird, this one with the addition of grass-type and in the shape of a perfect sphere resting on two taloned feet. Rowlet looked expectantly up at Hana, entirely over the song and dance of being presented since this was now her third time out, < Hey I’m a Grassflap, ever heard of us? Oh, and do you got any food? >Tate had long since given up on trying to rein in the Rowlet’s peculiar personality, and instead let her be herself. words 205 notes --- | Curiosity clustered her mind as she saw the Rowlet, but in now way ignored the question that Hawlucha had asked her. The idea of ‘having trained many warriors' brought a smile to her face. “I’ve trained a lot of Pokemon for a lot of different things. I once had a Primeape who made such a good impression he was asked to stay as an instructor for some of the people in Saffron City’s dojo.” She tilted her head. “I’ve had a total of nine other Pokemon, who have been successful in one way or another in whatever field they’ve pursued.” She spoke like a proud mama, before looking over to the Rowlet.
Who. Was. Adorable. And maybe, a bit rude? Abrasive could be used to describe her best. “I’m sorry to say I haven’t heard of Grassflap… but, I do have some Pokefeed. I was actually meaning to stop and get berries on my way out to route one after all is said and done here, so I’ll be a bit more stocked.” She wasn’t sure if that was a good thing, or a bad thing. “But, I’m happy to meet you none the less, Grassflap.” What a name… “Did you pick your name yourself?” |

Even if the only adversary in the room was the pudgy owl practically rolling in the floor to get around. You couldn’t be too careful. Especially when the Tate woman was already hunting for ball number three to complete the set. He wondered if she would go for another bird to keep the theme. He barely considered himself a flying type, taking more pride in his fighting capabilities. Rowlet hooted with laughter, < No, no. I am a Grassflap. I’m actually a pretty rare pokemon so that would explain why you’ve never heard of me or my kind. > she said, batting her beady eyes. < Since you don’t have any food I’ll go get us a snack I’ve been saving for a special occasion. > she hop-rolled over to the couch and reached under with her wing to knock a fuzzy lemon cake out before holding it up to present it to Hana, < For you, pretty lady! >Hawlucha glanced up with mild interest as Tate hovered nearby, wide-eyed, at what Rowlet was doing. She couldn’t find the words and in her confusion just clicked the ball in her hand to release a Piplup who toddled over to sit behind the desk out of the way as soon as she came out. There was a book under there that she'd started reading the last time she was presented and she was itching to get back to it.

words 323 notes --- | Despite her efforts, Hana was smiling widely at the Rowlet who moved around and made her way over to a lemon cake. She was a grass flip... what did that mean? Was it a sub-category of Pokemon? She'd never heard of it before and that had her nearly seething with curiosity. Her eyes moved to the Piplup as it was released and she smiled. What a freaking cutie that Piplup was, she'd always wanted one but never had the chance to get lucky enough. Yet, here she was, with the possibility-- if Piplup would have her.
Honestly Hana thought it comical that the Rowlet didn't think Pokefeed was food. She didn't blame the Rowlet, not in the slightest. Who would want to eat it? There were some Pokemon who did eat it, and it's why she carried it. But obviously this Rowlet's palette was far more sophisticated and in a way Hana could definitely respect that.
On top of everything else, pretty lady? "Awe, thank you." She responded upon taking what Rowlet offered. What a little sweetheart! Well, when she had food, at least.
This Rowlet was swooning her slowly, and she moved over to take her seat. It was equally between all of them. She didn't have her back turned to any of them, facing each of them equally. A laugh left her at the Rowlet and she moved her eyes over to the Piplup that emerged from the last Pokemon. Curiosity was peeked once more and she restrained from getting too terribly distracted by it. Instead, she looked to the Rowlet and grinned. "Alright, so you've got me curious, Rowlet. What is a Grassflip?" |

She waited to see if she would eat it, nibbling around the dust bunny clinging to the sticky confection herself. Commitment. Tate thought, shaking her head at the spectacle. < What? Rowlet? > Rowlet’s big round eyes narrowed, < No, noooo. I’m a Grassflip. That’s my species, silly. I’ve never heard of a Rowlet. > she said, dropping the rest of her cake and hopping around it to get closer. Hawlucha cleared his throat, examining his talons and sighing, < It is not good to encourage her like that. > he finally spoke up, still looking down at his claws, < She will never find a trainer if she goes on thinking it is okay to pull legs and stuff her face. > he finally looked at the Rowlet who whirled on him in a flurry of feathers, ready to hoot back. Tate gave a sharp whistle to them both, a signal to cut the crap out. Piplup was content sitting in her little hidey hole, kicking her feet and reading her book, in her own little world away from the bickering. She gave a little giggle at a particularly funny part and leaned forward to swipe a couple crumbs of cake, bringing it absentmindedly to her mouth. "Piplup? Care to join the group?" Tate prompted her. Piplup held up one flipper, finishing the page she was on with a smile before tucking a scrap of paper into the book, before looking up to the group. < Hi. >

words 241 notes --- | As if something had snapped together in her head, Hana understood. The Rowlet thought she was a Grassflip.......... a new breed of Pokemon entirely. That had Hana grinning. What a bright spirit that Rowlet had. It seemed she wasn't going to give up on her idea either. Hana could understand that- hell, she envied it. Her eyes moved to Hawlucha and she gave the bird a deep smile of gratitude. "Thank you. I'd be a bit lost without your insight, I think."
Her attention then turned to Tate as she spoke to the small bird Pokemon. Hana wasn't going to bother the Piplup, who was so adorably content reading her book and kicking her little feet as she did so. The greeting had Hana smiling brightly at the newcomer to their conversation. "Hello there, Piplup. I'm Hana." She addressed the Piplup by her species because Tate had, and she figured she couldn't go wrong if she did so. "Whatcha reading?" She took a bite of the cake in her hand without thinking, and winced as she pulled a piece of hair out of the bite... she should have looked at that first... oh well. |
