Training Pokemon was totally , totally great. At least that's what he thought before he had a million and one eggs to go along with it. Hatching all of them was going to be a pain but it would be worth it. At least he hoped it would. With a groan, he rubbed his shoulder and tried not to think about the amount of back pain this would cause later in life. Especially since he wasn't used to carrying around so much stuff. Most of it was future baby Pokemon so he couldn't really complain. Except about why he thought it was such a good idea to get so many eggs at once. His impulse control had never been great. And now this battle arena involved hiking. Something he hated either way. But hopefully training his Pokemon wouldn't be too hard here. He just needed to pick which one he wanted to train. With most of his options still being eggs or needing water he was kind of limited. But he did have a few in his team he guessed would work. Dorito or Icee being the main contenders. Since Dorito had already battled... He guessed he could let the round thing have a go this time. Clicking the button on the Pokeball he released the Spheal who promptly decided to roll instead of actually walk closer to him. This would do in a pinch. "Are you ready to fight?" It was a stupid question but, hopefully, it would get the ball rolling.icee the spheal - level o4 - thick fat water gun - defense curl - growl - powder snow

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? Hal sat on the steps of the shrine, elbows resting on her knees as she inspected her fingernails. Beside her, in a bag kept close as always, was the dull grey egg of an Onix. Normally she wasn't for the patience of hatching eggs, but this particular case was special - there weren't many things she desired more than to ride atop a rock snake. Her Deerling stood at oddly high attention just below her, twitching at every little noise and movement in the brush. Most of it was just the wind. "Did you have coffee this morning or what? Hal asked, raising her attention from her mundane task to her hyped-up Pokemon. It jumped back to her, putting its face nearly right into hers. < I do not drink coffee, > he said forcefully, nose-to-nose, before jumping back down the steps. Hal rolled her eyes. Stupid thing was such a freak. < Halexia, another human! There's one right there, he's coming!! > Its voice got shrill with excitement, and Hal raised an eyebrow as the man made his way to where they were. He didn't look incredibly please, but that was fine. At his feet was the balled, fat form of a Spheal. "Born ready, Handsome," she said, levering herself to her feet. She pushed the Deerling forward with her foot, and he bounded into the central open space on the path, easily taking the hint. He was practically vibrating with excitement. "Pony up Vartus, it's time to work. Your move," she addressed the man, just as eager as he was to get this thing going. His opponent seemed to be pretty excited to battle too. That was a plus. The small Spheal that he had with him would probably get a good workout against a deerling. At least he hoped they would. Soren was kind of glad that he had grabbed an ice type for the battle instead of one of his water types. As long as their opponent was ready then he had no problems with taking the first move. Of course the field didn't have a lot of maneuverability for Icee but that didn't mean they weren't going to give it their all. "Pleasure I'm sure." He didn't mind being called handsome. After all it was the truth and he knew it. But right now he couldn't let how good he looked effect the way they battled. It was more important to focus right now.
Icee wasn't exactly the pinnacle of strength being only level four but that didn't mean they were totally useless on the battlefield. Steeling themselves they excitedly bounced a bit before focusing. "Use Powder Snow!" It was the only ice type move they knew and the only other alternative was using a water type one on a partial grass type. Not something they wanted to do. Opening their mouth wide to capture as much air as possible it shot out into the air, snow drifting lazily for a moment before whipping up into a frenzy and shooting towards the Deerling. Hopefully, it would hit. If not it would at least provide a solid distraction.icee the spheal - level o4 - thick fat water gun - defense curl - growl - powder snow word: 225 exp: 225 used: powder snow grew to level: 5 ( 80/200 ) learned: rollout

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? Vartus was light on his feet, naturally agile if nothing else. He bounced around before the fight even really began, just waiting for his cue to dive in. Normally Hal liked to let her Pokemon fight their own battles, unless she saw something they didn't - she felt it was only fair, given it was their bodies on the line. But Vartus was a bit odd and seemed to like direction anyway, so she could at least try and help guide him out of harm's way. Which she needed to do pretty quickly. The opponent opened its mouth, and the snow that swiveled out gave her only a moment's notice to shout to her Deerling. "Move move move! Take a loop, get out of it!" she yelled, knowing she couldn't keep the Deerling completely out of the way, but keeping him moving would help negate the effects. Which was something they'd desperately need - the ice attack would do some serious damage. Vartus reacted just as the wind began to swirl violently, leaping into action despite the buffeting of the ice. He was able to get just outside of the cloud, coughing cold air out of his lungs. He might be partially normal-type, but that cold would sap his strength pretty quickly. Bouncing with that natural speed while he still could, he looped around just as Hal had asked - even though the terrain wasn't even, he bounced off of the hillside and rocks like the sure-footed creature he was and managed to get in behind the Spheal. Stupid Vartus wasn't even paying attention though, he was just going to keep running until... "Tackle now!" Hal called, once he was about at the side of the ice-type. Vartus skidded, changing directions, and lowered his head in a charge to try and get the Spheal with a Tackle. So far so good it seemed. This battle luckily wasn't going to end with someone just randomly hatching an egg. At least he hoped it wasn't. It would be a pain in the ass to deal with that sort of thing again. Not to mention the last battle he had participated in the guy just up and quit on him because Pancake absorbed water type moves. It wasn't his fault that his Pokemon was amazing. The battle here was the first one that Icee had been put into and so far he was impressed. The ice type moves would come in handy if they ever had to challenge a grass type trainer or something. Dorito was an ice type too of course but she was a little less battle and a little more... something else entirely for some reason. But he could at least work with her.
But when their opponent began to bounce around it was up to him to keep an eye on them. Icee wasn't a very fast mover on land unless they were rolling so it was important for Soren to yell out cues for them to take. "Defense Curl!" It was the safest bet, moving from the offensive to the defensive could potentially cost them but it wasn't like the added padding wouldn't help either way. Curling in on themselves Icee braced for impact as the small deer ran towards them. It would take more energy to move out of the way and could potentially end up getting hit anyways. This was the better course because with a higher defense they would be able to withstand more anyways.icee the spheal - level o4 - thick fat water gun - defense curl - growl - powder snow - rollout word: 275 exp: 355 used: defense curl grew to level: 6 ( 75/225 ) learned: n/a

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? Much to her relief, the cloud of snow and ice didn't intensify as Vartus leapt around, at least buying them a bit more time. Perhaps the other trainer was drawing this out a bit, for both of their Pokemons' benefit. After all, rapid fire Powder Snow would end the battle pretty quickly, since Vartus wasn't particularly a battle-savvy creature with a constitution meant to withstand super-effective attacks for long. As he dove in on her command for a Tackle, the Spheal rolled itself tightly into a protective ball - to that end, Vartus' attack wasn't particularly strong from where Hal stood. He bounced off from where he bent his knees to strike with his shoulder, shaking himself off in the foggy cloud as he bound back to the outskirts. "Easy, Vartus. React, don't just run to run." He might be a strong runner, but she could already see the green deer slowing a bit. He couldn't just keep running forever. The Deerling slowed to a stop, panting lightly and watching the pudgy round creature. He let out an instinctive Growl, stomping one foot in the way of his kind - not truly an act of aggression, but almost a challenge to get another creature to move. With the Spheal on the defensive, Vartus was feeling confident - perhaps too much so. Hal would have cautioned him to wait, to draw the Spheal out, but she didn't stop the Deerling when he went in for another Tackle. This was part of his learning experience as well, after all. He eventually had to learn to make his own decisions, even if it took some dangerous ones to get to that point. It seemed like the opponent was going to get a bit on the fancy side. Of course, it couldn't be helped. Training was training and that meant you did it right or not at all. Soren wasn't really sure what sort of Pokemon Icee wanted to be when they grew up but he did know that he needed to work on training them with some sort of guidance. Otherwise, he wouldn't ever be good at this whole, breeder thing. Sure it wasn't too big of a deal if he never actually trained his Pokemon and just let them lounge around. But he wanted them to be the best they could and the best that they wanted. Hopefully, Icee wanted something along those lines as well.
Being a slower Pokemon on land he couldn't exactly dodge out of the way. Once more he was in danger's path and Soren needed to think quickly or else they would end up losing this match quickly. Of course, they could always just spawn Powder Snow but that wouldn't get anyone anywhere. It would be pointless and not let anyone train properly. "Defense Curl again! Then roll into Rollout!" It was a move that was risky, only strong after a few turns and only if it actually managed to hit. But taking the Tackle once more it was really their only option. Rolling into themselves once more Icee defended, the tackle buffetting against them a little harder this time but still, they stood strong.
Instead of unrolling they began to move towards the Deerling, speeding up as they rolled with as much force as they could muster. It would be hard to keep in control of the move in this sort of battlefield but it wasn't like it was a real fall. Just a hologram simulation.icee the spheal - level o6 - thick fat water gun - defense curl - growl - powder snow - rollout word: 300 exp: 375 used: defense curl & rollout grew to level: 7 ( 150/250 ) learned: n/a

so hot out the box can we pick up the pace? She'd thought, originally, that the Deerling would be a difficult creature to handle when she'd first brought him on. He was bullish and strong-willed, and seemed to have an odd set of mannerisms and rules by which he worked. But he was surprisingly willing to take orders, just like now, as he bowled toward the opposing Spheal without reservation. The Spheal, though, was a bit more prepared this time. While it took the force of the attack, it wasn't just going to sit around and be pounded on. Which was fair, since they all knew another round of Powder Snow would put the weakened grass-type on the ground. Instead, the Spheal rolled itself up and implemented the Rollout attack. Vartus skittered backward, panicking instead of realizing he could probably have jumped over top of the rolling Pokemon, and because of that he was quite thoroughly steamrolled. "Beautifully done," Hal said with a sigh, though it was unclear from her tone whether she was sarcastically saying it to her Pokemon or commenting on the other's move. Vartus was slow to get up this time, obviously aching from the attack. He looked back, beseechingly, as the Spheal rolled past. Hal chewed her lip, then commanded. "Vartus, use Sand Attack. Give yourself a little bit of cover." Of course, there was no actual sand here, but that didn't deter the little deer. He kicked a spray of dirt and grass back at the Spheal, hoping it would startle it enough to throw off its aim.
