Astonishingly, there was a period in time where Kaleo did attempt to wait for the cameraman that was supposed to be accompanying him instead of rushing straight to the lab. It was only really for a few hours of the morning, really, but that still counted, right? After all, if they wanted him to keep hanging around, they should have at least given him a specific time, rather than calling periodically to ask him to wait one more hour. ...But, for the time being, he found himself caught in that periodical cycle, stuck waiting around in the main square for someone who seemed likely to never come. It hadn't been completely boring, at least - a young woman had given him an egg (???) in exchange for his autograph before scurrying off, and some old guy passing by about thirty minutes ago had dropped an absolutely absurd number of cabbages he'd ended up helping him pick up... but now, at around quarter-past-ten? The square was completely empty and quiet as a crypt. An absolute bone zone, if you will. Except for him. And so, here he was three hours into being made to wait, leaned up against the weird time-space dinosaur statue, singing quietly to himself with a notebook in hand and an egg resting on his stomach. He probably would have been the first to admit he cut kind of a strange figure here, but it wasn't like anyone was going to remember one weirdo hanging out in the square of some tiny nowhere town for a couple of hours. Especially not one in the midst of writing a song no one else was likely to hear. Rapping was was objectively much cooler than singing, but there was something far more comfortable about the latter. Like a warm but completely hideous sweater that would make him look like he was just co-opted into a boy band somewhere if his voice was on the higher side. Particularly with the subject matter of what he was writing. "...And you stood against the setting sun, smiling the same as always, But before I thought to ask again, you... uh....ba-da-da-nana na, nana-na, nana naaa..."A low exhale escaped him, the pen in his hand tapping a loose beat against the edge of the notebook. Man, he could come up with choruses just fine, but everything around it was always a wreck. He paused for a moment, however, upon spotting someone else passing through the square. Perhaps they'd have some ideas on how he could make this better?.. It was worth a shot, he supposed. "HEY-YO, DUDE! You know anythin' that rhymes good with 'again'?" 439 Words ● @ open ● dude is a gender neutral term PHARAOH LEAP. I caught wind and hit the road runnin' And Lord, I've been a long time gone Any other day Mila would have her whole flock of pokemon with her. But after being forced to head back to the town she’d received her starter in due to complications on the road she was much more cautious about having the wet-around-the-ears pokemon romping out in the dangers of this region. It really told a lot about where she’d come from and her lack of experience in the world. Her own naivety had been the downfall of her team and an ambush on route 2 had nearly been their undoing. She’d received a good scolding from the pokelab’s angry short lady - not the one who had dealt with her initially...something she was pretty thankful for. She was still kind of nervous about getting back in the swing of things for her journey now. So skulking around Cassiopeia, still sticking out like a sore thumb in her bib overalls and straw colored - and textured - hair, was how she’d spent most of her last few days here, putting off the inevitable. She was just about to give in and let Q out to stretch her puppy legs when the sound of someone’s voice singing caught her attention. It was nice and drew her closer to the statue it was coming from. She was just crossing the square on one side of it when the singing voice ended and someone called out in a much more brash voice. To her? ”Me?” she drawled, the single vowel in that pronoun having a handful of diphthongs as it slid out, ”Friend, I reckon.” she suggested. In her accent...friend, again, hand, band they all had a similar enough sound. It’d sound like a clumsy attempt at a slant rhyme with his slick city boy dialect, though. ”Was you who was a sangin?” she asked, finally making the connection and taking a couple steps closer and then noticing his egg. The pattern looked vaguely familiar but wasn’t one of the multitudes of farm-type pokemon she was used to rearing back home. So maybe she’d seen it in a book or when her papaw had been experimenting with other species. She had a couple eggs of her own in her roughed up rucksack, and was sure her Mareep would hatch any day now. She wasn’t entirely sure what the other mystery egg was but was wondering if maybe she’d taken on too many pokemon too fast without her roots put down on Route 4 like she’d wanted to do when she moved to this region. spectre words: 426 specks counted! pokemon: eggs: mareep, mudkip

Well, that wasn't ENTIRELY the response he was expecting, especially all the way out here. The moment Avarice heard the young woman speak, he couldn't help but think that she sounded like she'd come straight out of Paniola Town. Was there a city like that in Inset? It probably would have been quite a coincidence if they had come from the same island. He nodded a little when she asked if he meant her, listening to her suggestion with a quirked eyebrow. Friend, huh? When she said it, it SORT of sounded like it'd fit in. But... hm.
"Friend, again... Frand, ah-gaan..." He repeated her suggestion to himself a moment, first in his own voice and then in a vague imitation of her accent in an effort to hear the rhyme for himself. He supposed it sort of worked, in it's own way... although it didn't ENTIRELY strike the tone he was looking for. Still, he put it down as an option nevertheless, nodding a bit in approval - she had been kind enough to offer him a word, after all. Maybe he could make use of it for another piece down the road. "Not bad, not bad at all..."And then she... asked something? Or, at least he thought she did. That sounded like a question. It took a moment for his brain to decipher what exactly that question WAS, however. Was it he who was.... oh. OH! It... would make sense that she might have been in range to hear him, wouldn't it. He nodded once, his gaze sliding to the page open in his notebook before returning to face the the girl fully, a lazy grin on his mug."Oh! Yeah, sweetness, that was me. Don't usually go acapella in the middle o' town like this, but I'm kinda stuck here f'now."He shrugged a little. He'd gotten almost accustomed to it at this point, but it was nice to have the company. He set his notebook aside and wriggled a little bit to get into a better seated position than the slouchy one he was in, keeping a hand gently braced against the egg so it didn't fall in the process. "You like music too?"He... hoped that was why she'd asked, anyway. If she'd had a mind to tell him to keep it down, that'd be kind of tricky - he HAD been trying hard to be quiet. 401 Words ● fitz ● she's v good PHARAOH LEAP. I caught wind and hit the road runnin' And Lord, I've been a long time gone Mila cocked her head to the side and quirked a brow, hands instantly going to denim clad hips as she heard him struggle to make the two words rhyme as seamlessly as they did with her accent. It was kinda funny and she couldn’t help but to laugh. Then he looked like a miltank with a cud stuck in its throat and she thought maybe he was strokin out. She wondered if she should just walk away or try to help but then his face brightened again and he finally answered her question. She wondered what in the hell that had been about. Wasn’t she speakin normal? ”Acapella?” she asked, having a seat right in the street and kicking her feet out in front of her, leaning back on her palms. She wasn’t used to nobody calling her sweetness so she just tried to skim over it. Wasn’t sure how it made her feel. ”Oh naw, I don’t know nothin bout music and such like that. I’s just wondrin cause I heard it and couldn’t figger out where it was a comin from. Mighty fine egg ya got there…..” she shifted her rucksack off her shoulders to place it in her lap, flipping open the top to reveal the contents ”I got a few little yolks m’self.”She stroked one that was electric blue on the bottom with a cloud-like cream top ”This’n here’s a Mareep. I’m shore excited for it to hatch. I’ve always wanted one.” she looked back to him ”You know what you got?” she was curious herself and if he didn’t she wondered if he’d want to take a trip to the library with her to look it up. Or if he even really cared. Maybe he was one of them types that liked the surprise. Not her - she liked knowing what to be prepared for. Every newhatch had special needs to consider. spectre words: 327 pokemon: eggs: mareep, mudkip

"Yeah, acapella. S'when you sing without havin' instruments in the background." He responded to the confusion in her tone, finding himself feeling a little disheartened as she continued speaking. The idea of someone - anywhere - being disinterested in music broke a little of his heart. It wasn't even that it was specifically his she was unaware of - everybody deserved the chance to cultivate a love and appreciation of some genre out there. Though, perhaps there was hope for her if she was willing to approach out of curiosity-- But then she pointed out the egg in his lap. Kaleo blinked, giving it a gentle pat as though to acknowledge the fan's gift himself. "Thank you?.."She...apparently also had some yolks. He watched as she went into her bag, raising his eyebrows as she brought out an egg she'd said belonged to a Mareep, a small grin coming back to his face. Now that he had a look at it, he did see the resemblance... cute! He didn't know much beyond seeing the electric types on video, but they seemed friendly looking. He could get behind that. When she asked about his own, however, he shook his head. "I dunno! Someone handed it off to me while I was waiting here." The purplish tint with the orange spot on the top certainly gave away no secrets to him. "M'sure whatever's inside'll grow up t'be somethin' great, whatever it is."Although, now that he was thinking about it... if she was out here carrying around her 'yolks' and was passionate enough to point his out, maybe now would be a good time to ask before he scarred whatever was in here for life. He only really knew at this point that he was supposed to keep it warm. He turned his attention fully to Mila, hopeful. "Actually, you seem like a pro... this is my first egg." Hopefully that didn't make him seem like some sort of unfit parent for his incidental child. "Any tips f'a newbie?" 334 Words ● fitz ● sry for the wait! PHARAOH LEAP. I caught wind and hit the road runnin' And Lord, I've been a long time gone There’s a fancy word jes fer sangin without music? she thought, her expression quizzical before she decided to move on to the subject she actually knew a thing or two about. She didn’t like feeling dumb and that happened far too often these days now that she was off her papaw’s farm and out in the real world. Society and the people in it could be judgy as all get out! Especially the second they sensed weakness or difference. Naw, it was better to make the corrections to the sails herself and steer the conversation to where she needed it to go. Even if she didn’t realize she was doing it, subconsciously it was as if she knew that’s what she’d have to do to survive. Nobody wanted to buy eggs from a breeder if they thought they were an idiot just cause they didn’t know what a Capello was. ”Well thank ya!” she responded beaming when he said she seemed like a pro. Puffing her chest up like a cocksure Torchic strutting its stuff she straightened her spine and placed her Mareep egg back into the bag before holding her hands out to ask for his egg, saying, ”Ya’ve awready got a good start if ya’ve got that attitude ‘bout what it’ll be. Sometimes half the fun’s finding out what it’ll be cause even if ya knew the species ya’d still be rearin’ a lil being with its own personality and all that. It’s crazy how they can be even newhatched. I personally prefer to know what I’m gonna get but that’s cause I’m breedin ‘em down the line so I don’t wanna waste my time on somethin I won’t be able to use.” she didn’t notice how blunt she was being about her business but the truth was the truth. ”Just be easy with it. I’d say ya should get a bag to hold it in, line it with stuff to cushion it in case yer bumped on the road. Definitely don’t just hold it out in your hands in the open. That’s how ya get cracked or worse. Or get a target on yer back from people who know a little more than me if what ya’ve got is a rare un. Ya should keep it warm but…” she gestured to the summer sun overhead ”Don’t reckon that’ll be too hard to do right about now. Honestly the hardest part of breedin is makin sure the parents are a good match and happy before they make the little fellers, and then keepin a watch on the eggs protectin em and raisin the babies after that. It’s way easier doin it when ya’ve got a piece a land to do it on. Steada on the road. That’s what I’m aimin to do. Get me a little parcel and settle on it.” she got lost in her reverie for a second then rememebered the one polite thing she knew to do ”How bout you slick? What’re your plans?”

Admittedly, the way she'd puffed out her chest upon being paid that vague of a compliment was sort of endearing. He would have thought praise was easier won in the country - what, with the whole deal about small towns being close knit like family and no fuss about whose family line was blessed by the Tapus or not - but maybe that was all just on television. When she'd held her hands out for his egg, he'd offered it up to her with only the slightest bit of hesitance; the chick probably wasn't one of those egg thieves she was talking about anyway, right? Otherwise, she wouldn't have started warning him about them. Plus, if she was aiming to be a breeder, as she'd said, an unknown egg was probably no good to her anyway. ... Wait, why was he concerned about this? He'd had this egg for... what, an hour? Two? He wasn't some sort of loser who got attached to things within minutes! Well, in some ways, he was, but that wasn't something she or anyone else needed to know. Still, he'd listened well enough as she'd given her explanation, looking a bit guilty at the notion of not just holding it out in the open. He'd admittedly just planned to keep it in the front of his coat and zip it up, given that his bag would eventually have so many solids in it... but he supposed she had a point on keeping it protected. If he fell, that... wouldn't be a good look. She finished off by telling him her aims, at which he nodded. "Makes sense. People settle down t'start families n' all, s'not surprisin' that Pokemon might wanna do the same." Admittedly, he couldn't really see himself doing anything like that at any point soon, but it was nice that she had set goals and ethical practices in mind for her enterprising. It re-affirmed that she knew what she was talking about, if nothing else. ... Unlike him, which probably became blatant the moment she asked for his own goals. "Dunno!" He looked a bit sheepish, shrugging once again. "I'd like to try my hand at the whole Pokemon training thing, but bein' real? I'm just happy to be here."Man, that sounded kind of lame in comparison... though it was the truth. Mostly. At least her use of pet names almost seemed to validate his own. That made things more fun, at least. "You sound rock solid on your hustle tho', sweets. Why breeding?" PHARAOH LEAP.
