A creepy forest. That's what he'd managed to get himself into, a creepy forest. Well, he assumed it was a forrest with everything that surrounded him. All the trees, bushes, leaves, etc. Though he should be a bit more scared, he really, somehow, just, wasn't. In a way, he was intrigued. What could be found in a creepy forest? His eyes traveled the floor and below a leaf they spotted something that shined in the sun. Crouching down, Sam inspected it further and moved the leaf with his fingers. A smile cross his features. "Gotcha."
Upon hearing about these gems, he'd been looking for the location that held each color. Apparently it was a vast majority or places, but he had heard there were hot spots. He hoped this was a hot spot and not just a gem somebody accidentally dropped. He picked it up and fished a green bag out of his pocket, placing the gem inside. "Well alrighty then. Next, next." He mumbled to himself - a lot when alone - before glancing around.
Oh! His expression held surprise. "Another one? So soon?" Mock surprise hit his tone and he chuckled to himself, happily starting to hum as he put it in the bag as well. Maybe he had found a hot spot... and as he glanced around, he smiled at the fact that so far, it was all to himself... immediately his features fell and he glared at the empty space of air in front of him. "Shit, I've jinxed it..." Now somebody was bound to show up.» 324 » @errybody » come bug sam plz thx made by wizz

184 Words | There was no denying that the forest was pretty creepy as he walked through it, but that just enhanced its appeal to Bailey. And besides, a future ranger was supposed to be brave, right? He was there to see if anybody would need help, not quite sure about what he should be doing to get the actual rangers' attention, but that seemed to be a pretty good choice, and even if it didn't get him anywhere helping people was still pretty good.
He seemed to have gotten lucky as he stumbled across another person, who seemed to just be walking around for some reason. Bailey approached the guy, calling out before he got too close in an attempt to not seem like a creeper who had snuck up. "Hey, what's going on? Didn't really expect to see someone else here." It was true, even with his intentions he had thought the actual chance of meeting someone was pretty low. He noticed that, like him, the other guy didn't have a pokemon out, so he either didn't have one or simply hadn't brought his out. |

Sarah entered the spooky wooded area, her rucksack worn backwards so that her newly found egg was nestled snugly with Tréan keeping watch peeking out from under the flap on top. Her starter was in his pokeball with a bunch of empties and the rest of her supplies. Tréan’s eyes were narrowed, looking out for both potential adversaries as well as the gleaming green gems they’d been sent to find. It was a bit difficult to suss them out in the lush foliage. Pair that with the dim light barely trickling through the canopy overhead and he was beginning to think it was a lost cause. Sarah heard his sigh of frustration and reached into her pack to pat him on the cap, ”There, there. They said there were plenty of those things just laying around. I’m sure we’ll find some soon enough.” the...monk or whatever had seemed pleased that she had her eye on one of his peculiar eggs and told her she would need to bring back plenty of gems to purchase it. She wasn’t sure why plain old money wouldn’t work but it was nice to have something to do besides training and traveling. Tréan squirmed in the bag before wriggling out and leaping through the air to hop ahead up the path toward where the two guys stood around. One held a green bag that already had a bit of heft to it from what the mushroom assumed were gems. Sarah’s pace quickened to keep up with the surprisingly fast foongus, though not an outright run so as not to jostle the precious cargo strapped to her chest. She stooped to scoop up Tréan and drop him back into the bag. ”Hi! Are you guys gem hunting too?” she asked, sunnily, ”Oh, I’m Sarah by the way.” she hastily introduced herself, giving an odd little curtsy before kneeling to pluck a handful of gems up and handing them to Tréan to place in the designated interior pocket. words: 332 green gems: +5 (5) wizz • @yamikohai hatching thread for: Turtwig egg

Yup, he jinxed it. His eyes fell on the one who spoke first, not startled by his voice because he'd heard the footsteps. "I didn't expect the company either." He spoke honestly, but then again, his soft tone sort of cushioned the blow. He nodded down toward the ground. "I've been looking for gems..." His eyes caught the mushroom that made it's way into their small shared space. "And instead found, a Foongus?" He nearly laughed it out, but his eyes caught the girl who the Pokemon belonged to. A smile crossed his features, fond, because he loved seeing that bond. Between a trainer and their Pokemon. To her question, he nodded. "I am, anyway." He reaffirmed. "I'm Sam." He glanced his eyes over to the boy who'd showed up just before the girl had. Because you know what, he hadn't introduced himself, they just sort of started talking like they were already friends. Strange... he hadn't even realized it happened until then.

| It quickly occurred to Bailey that he had interrupted whatever this guy had been doing, even though he tried not to let it show. He probably didn't want someone else coming in and taking the...gems was it? Whatever he was looking for anyway, Bailey didn't even know that there was anything to search for in the area so he wasn't there to steal anything. When a pokemon appeared however he got a bit more excited, even if it was basically a mushroom with a face.
He watched as a girl jogged up to them and picked up the Foongus and put it in a bag, presumably its trainer. She was hunting for these gems as well it seemed, and from the way she asked if they were out there for that as well it seemed like a thing that was fairly popular. he wondered how he hadn't even heard of them.
"I'm just here to check out the place. I'm Bailey." He couldn't remember if he had given his name to the boy but either way this would do. "So what are these gem things for, anyway?" |

The ex-ranger scrounged around in the dirt right beside of where she’d found the first bunch. This was easier than she thought it would be….a little too easy. ”Nice to meet you Sam.” she said with a nod then another to the other guy, ”Bailey.” she passed the gems one at a time into the bag to the foongus, knowing even one was hard for him to grip with his nubs. Hopefully they could train some more soon and get him those real arms he so desperately desired. At Bailey’s question she shrugged, taking the time to really look at the last gem in her hand. She’d found ten so far just in this square foot of space on the forest floor, ”You can trade them for items at a little stall in the clearing….uhhh….” she looked around now, seeing how many paths there were that intersected where they stood. Which way was it again? ”....I think that way? East? Or is that west?” she chewed her lip and handed the last gem to her mushroom assistant, ”Anyway I’m really not sure what they’re for necessarily other than that - or why they’re so darn easy to find. They can’t be worth much if they’re this common.”She turned to Sam, ”You know anything else about them?”words: 218 green gems: +5 (10) wizz • @yamikohai

So, Sarah and Bailey. He could remember those names. Though, he'd have to try and remember later on down the line that there were two guys here with him. See, faces he's not so good at. Names and personalities? Down pat. It was an unfortunately habit. How was it that this guy had simply stumbled into the forest that these gems were in? He said he'd been checking the area out but had no idea about the gems... did that mean he'd simply followed the crowd and gotten curious? That was strange. To Sam, anyway. Why wouldn't Bailey just make his way up to the merchant and look things over like Sam had? Then again, not everybody was like Sam. Constantly looking into every detail of whatever caught his interest. Needless to say, he was glad Sarah spoke, because he was too flabbergasted to have said anything first. Once Sarah was finished, Sam let a soft smile form. "From what I understand, from where we care currently, it's east to the merchant." He told her, glancing over at the Foongus that was helping her with an equally bright a smile. Because he always admired the connection between Pokemon and Trainer. He assumed she was a Trainer... he could be wrong on that end. Oh, and he assumed Bailey was a trainer as well. Now he was curious... "As far as the gems go. I've no idea what they're made of, or where they came from- part of the reason I'm out here to study them. Moreover, I only know that they showed up with the merchants- not before. Their purpose seems to be collection and being brought to the merchant for trade... which makes me wonder why a merchant would accept them as trade instead of the usual currency here on Inset."He glanced up at them and blinked a few times. Oh, he'd rambled. "That's... all I got." Now he was awkwardly shifting his eyes away from them, because damn, he'd rambled. made by wizz

| Bailey watched as the girl stooped down and dug in the dirt a little, apparently finding some of those gems that she passed into her bag. He had to say, that Foongus was a little cute, even if it was weird and looked a bit weak. He nodded back at her, and then listened to her rather vague answer. All he really knew after she spoke was that some guy was looking for the gems and that he was in some direction from where they were...great.
He also turned to Sam hoping that he would be able to explain a little better. He did know the direction at least, and if Bailey wanted to check out the place he could figure out which way was east. Unfortunately he seemed just as in the dark about the actual gems themselves, which seemed a bit weird. Both of these people were out here looking for the shiny rocks at the request of a mystery person, for a mysterious reason without actually knowing about them? Well ok then.
"Well I'll have to go check it out then I guess. Sounds pretty interesting." He looked down and saw one of the gems almost hidden in the ground near his foot, and bent down to pick it up. Tossing it into the air and catching it in an attempt to look cool, he almost screwed it up by dropping it. "At the very least if something fishy is going on I'll have to check it out. It's up to a hero to do those things, right?"

Sarah nodded looking in the direction she’d pointed. That was East then. She knew which way to go, just not what it was called based on directions. If she ever found her way back out of here she was buying a compass, because the map of Inset was useless without a reference point of the basic cardinal directions. She didn’t find it too odd that the other fellow was here, after all they’d both had to wander in to see the merchant’s stand in the clearing with the strange green pedestal. So maybe he just hadn’t gotten there yet. Sam brought up a good point about the currency rates. ”Well...maybe its hard for the merchant to get around and he just really needs the gems to decorate his pedestal. What better use to gather them than the throngs of trainers wandering through on their journey down the routes?” she offered, always the optimist. However she couldn’t help the perplexed look she gave him when he apparently referred to himself as a hero. It seemed jarring to her ears, after a year with the Rangers before she’d set out on her own you’d think she would be used to egos like that but strangely enough even then she’d never heard anyone be so blatant with their choice of vocabulary. ”Hero?” she repeated, innocently enough. ”What makes you a hero? And what does it have to do with investigating something as, admittedly odd but not so far malicious, as the unbalanced economy of a random forest clearing?” words: 256 green gems: +5 (15) @yamikohai wizz •

Both of Sam's ebony eyebrows furrowed at the same time in muddled confusion. "Have to?" He whispered and repeated Bailey's words, as if trying to make any sort of logical sense of them. Oh, and there it was. Suddenly those ebony eyes of his were lifting with complete surprised awe. He'd just dubbed himself a hero... did that make him one of.... those guys? Apparently he hadn't been the only one to notice, since Sarah spoke exactly the thoughts that came to Sam's mind. He couldn't help the small smile that formed. He so loved when he was on the same page with people if only because sometimes he thought maybe he just wasn't even in the same book as people, let alone the same freaking page. Being social wasn't easy and for Sam, at times, it was near impossible. "In a way I would assume creating one's on currency isn't necessarily illegal, as much as it is tedious and a little unorthodox." Sam spoke up, shrugging his shoulders. "I don't think a 'hero' is needed, per-say, as much as maybe... a detective? And that's if it's even a serious matter. As said previously by Sarah, nothing about this seems malicious. Odd, maybe, but not in any way threatening." He glanced around the forest floor, like maybe it would hold an answer. Instead, he just ended up finding a nice stump to rest his rump on, taking a seat on the old wood and huffing out a small sigh, picking up a few gems he found scattered on the ground near the stump. made by wizz

| The other two didn't quite seem to take his comment about being a hero as well as he had expected with the guy saying a hero wasn't needed and the girl not even humouring it for a second. He knew subtlety wasn't exactly his strong point, but he was at a loss that his intention hadn't gone through at all, and wondered if it was his fault or if they were bad at reading people. Yeah, that must have been it, right? Not his fault at all.
"Well, uh, that was meant to be a joke...not a very good one apparently. I just thought the whole thing was a bit weird and worth checking out a little." He let out a small laugh and played with his hair, obviously feeling awkward. He'd been told that first impressions were everything, and his had just gone out the window with these guys due to a stupid mistake. "It is pretty odd though. If he's getting a bunch of people to get them, that must mean he wants a lot right? What for?" He held up the one he had nabbed from the ground and looked into it, trying to see something without knowing what to look for.
"There's only one way to find out I guess, I might as well find some of my own and ask him myself." Not only was he wanting to ask about the gems, but he was also a little bit interested in seeing what kind of stuff would get people to go looking for the gems. |

Sarah nodded, ”Definitely tedious, I’m sure. Can you imagine having to do all those conversions?” she picked up a few more gems, realizing her bag was getting heavier already, ”I wonder if they have gem banks? Like….I don’t think I’ll have enough room to keep all the gems I’ll need to buy what I want….and I can’t just use them up because then I’ll never save enough.” she glanced to Bailey smiling sheepishly as he confessed the whole hero thing had been a joke and she felt bad that she’d taken him so seriously. ”Sorry, it’s just...I just left the Rangers myself and I’m so used to people being literal with what they say. There’s no room for error or innuendo so it’ll probably take me a little while to get used to more civilian ways of speaking. It was a good joke!” she encouraged, nodding when he said it was odd, ”Yep, honestly if people want to get the bigger ticket items one individual person will need a looooot of gems. So he must need loads and loads. And I heard from someone on another path that this isn’t the only place doing it. There’s also a beach with blue gems and a plain with red ones. I don’t know if they’re all for the same...organization or whatever but...it’s a little weird the more I think about it...” words: 242 green gems: +5 (20) +100 for ten post thread (120) tag: @yamikohai and wizz •

Oh... right, jokes. People did that. He blinked before realizing maybe he took people a bit more seriously than he should as well. Seemed Sarah was that way- because she was a ranger. Was it because he was an assistant researcher that he did the same? No, it's because he was gullible at times and more so than not a judgmental bastard. Did it mean the merchants wanted a lot? He'd looked over the beach already, great place, but he'd been really distracted by the eggs that Calla had... he didn't do much investigating. He hadn't been to the plains yet, but he sure wanted to now. Mostly he wanted to see if all the gems were the same. Seemed they were, well, decently the same. And Sarah had a really great point. Where they all run by the same organization? "I hadn't thought of that. If the same people run it, the consistency would make sense. Merchants, pedestals, gems. Even the rewards are all pretty much the same at each place, but corresponding to each element." He laughed, leaning back on the tree and smirking. "Or we're looking way to far into this and it's a coincidence..."

| Bailey was glad to hear that the girl understood his explanation, and at the very least he didn't seem to make things any worse with the guy. Not only that, but the girl was a ranger! Or, she had been but had left for some reason. He was ready to bombard her with questions when he realised that she might not want to talk about it and bit his tongue. Like, literally, and harder than he had expected, because he could instantly feel the pain radiate through his mouth and had to hide once again how stupid he was acting.
He listened as they discussed the wares that the merchants were offering until he was ready to talk normally again. "So wait, there's a place for each of the three basic types? What exactly are they selling?" At least the locations seemed to line up with the types decently, a forest for green grass gems, a beach for blue water ones, and red gems had showed up in a plain. Admittedly the fire one was a bit more of a stretch than the other two, but not ridiculous.
"I wonder why the gems started showing up, and how those guys knew before everyone else. If they weren't rewarding people for getting them I'd say they were the ones who put them there, but that sounds a little silly, right?" What kind of organisation put that kind of a plan into place anyway, the only person with anything to lose would be themselves. Maybe the guy was right, and there was nothing really weird about it unless you were trying to find something. |

”Yeah it’s all apparently the same set-up so if they’re not related that would be even stranger to me.” she said, chuckling and picking up some more gems. This was going to get heavy fast. She would definitely have to ask about a banking system! ”They’ve got the same sort of stuff for sale at each one too. Mystery eggs, elemental plates, evolution items. It’s almost too good to be….true…” she finished, getting a chill. How could she have not questioned this before now? ”But it’s not like they’re really trading for things of value from us and taking advantage. These gems are literally just scattered on the ground everywhere. So they had to know they could be found, and at what capacity. After all nobody creates a money system without knowing, generally, how much of the money is in circulation. You can’t set price points without knowing what they’re worth. This is so weird the more I think about it...what the hell….” she added, looking at the last gem in her hand with a renewed intensity. words: 172 green gems: +5 (125) tag: @yamikohai and wizz • notes: wanna wrap it up soon and maybe even start another thread so we can work on getting another ten poster?
