"Man, check you out, being all classy," Aiden said with a laugh when Kaneda mentioned the library. "I would've gone the lazy route and checked Google. I like to think it saves time but somehow I always end up on a pokemon rights blog when I look for advice about raising eggs." He ran a hand through his hair, ruffling it up while he shook his head. Meanwhile, Nutmeg's eyes widened. What if Kaneda was just saying that because he could see how distraught she was? What if it really was her fault and he was just being nice? But on the other hoof, what if he was telling the truth? What if he really was running off on his pokemon journey, raising eggs and all, without being able to understand a single pokemon? She ran her tongue over her lips and looked back up at Aiden, clearly expecting him to be a translator. "Could you tell him... um..." Shoot. What did she want to say, exactly? "Tell him I think it's really brave? Like, to be a trainer with his... problem?" She tugged at her lip with her teeth and barreled on ahead before Aiden could get a word in edgewise. "But don't call it a problem! Oh gosh, I'm so bad at this, I'm sorry."It was all Aiden could do to not laugh in time with his Nutmeg's overflowing anxiety. He heaved a sigh and moved into a crosslegged position. "You're fine, honey, you're fine," he said while he pulled her onto his lap. She was heavy for a Tepig, but Tepigs were pretty small, so it wasn't a terribly difficult task. He ran his palm down her back like he was a rich old lady and she was his prized teacup poodle. "Anyway. Nutmeg wants you to know she thinks you're brave--for being a trainer despite the language barrier and all that." Nutmeg visibly breathed a sigh of relief when she heard Aiden's phrasing. The language barrier. Yes. That sounded much better than your problem. WORDS ► 340 POKEMON ► nutmeg the tepig NOTES ► wizz • egg thread for heatmor +5 ruby gems

"Shit man, you aren't kidding. There are a lot of people out there who are like, some sort of 'purists' or something, and Arceus forbid you to think about raising an egg as a Trainer." He mocked random users on the internet by puffing out his chest. "A Pokemon should be raised by Pokemon." A small turn of his body and he was mocking another user. "No, no," this one sounded like a female. "Just as long as they're healthy they're okay!" He was laughing at himself by the end of his small charade, grinning at the other two there. The sudden distraught pig had Kaneda's full attention though, users on the internet forgotten as he listened to her get all anxious and fiddle around with her words. He wondered what she was so flustered and anxious about. Maybe she was just a jittery pig. Who was he to judge? He was chill enough not to mind one way or the other if she was anxious or not. But way too curious not to wonder what she was anxious about. Oh! It was about his inability to understand Pokemon. Oh, and then he heard the compliment and his face twisted. "Oh, well, thanks." He shrugged his shoulders, and despite the fact that he couldn't understand her, he knew she could understand him and he made eye contact when speaking with her to let her know that he was talking to her. Made it more personal, seemed less rude. "Not brave, probably stupid, and I might have some Pokemon activists on my tail before long." He teased, winking, and chuckling before looking at Aiden. "The bond you have with her is awesome." He admitted. "I'm gonna get my starter soon as I hatch this thing. I hope I get as strong a bond with it as you have with your Nutmeg." He admitted, smiling at the two. gems. 5 words. 338 notes. Clover

Aiden snorted at Kaneda's mimicries. "Ex-actly," he gushed. "It's like... what's so wrong with raising a pokemon from an infant, and making sure it has the proper nutrition and a safe environment from day one?" Aiden was generally a laid back dude but there were three things that never failed to rile him up: competitions, insults to fire types, and people like the ones Kaneda had just impersonated. "It can get its vaccinations and arceus forbid it has a negative mutation of some sort. In civilization, you can get a doctor to look over 'em. In the wild, what happens? They just die?" Aiden shook his head and shrugged. "But what are you gonna do? I guess having some conviction is better than none, even if it is... horribly misguided." Not that Aiden was biased or anything. Strictly speaking, pokemon with negative mutations were supposed to die out. That was the whole point of natural selection--it allowed the pokemon best suited to their environment to thrive. But Aiden was not a scientist and as far as he could tell, allowing wild pokemon to die when they could've lived a long life if they'd been domesticated was nothing short of a crime. On a happier note, the boy seemed to enjoy her compliment. That, combined with the compliment about their bond, had Nutmeg grinning shyly, all traces of nervousness forgotten. Aiden beamed right along with her. "Thanks!" Aiden raised an eyebrow at Kaneda's follow-up comment though. "I heard they have issues with giving out starters to people who already have pokemon, so be careful with that. Are you going through the lab or the rangers?"WORDS ► 275 POKEMON ► nutmeg the tepig NOTES ► wizz • egg thread for heatmor +5 ruby gems (10)

"I'm going to be going through the lab." He probably shouldn't have answered so quickly, but he definitely didn't want to go through the rangers. The further he was from a ranger the better, even if it meant getting himself a starter. "I won't be bringing these guys along because I don't think it's right to consider the baby Pokemon starters, you know?"Maybe it was just his own personal opinion, but it didn't seem right to drag a baby Pokemon into battle. "I mean, if they like battling, then sure and all the more power to them." He shrugged. "But I won't be using them in trainer battles, and I know those will eventually show themselves so... gonna need a starter." He gave a soft smile, figuring yeah, that was a good enough reason to get a starter on top of the eggs-- right? Sure. gems. 10 words. 162 notes. Clover

Nutmeg lifted her head from Aiden's knee so she could interject. "The lab is a good place to go! Interacting with new trainers is always fun for the pokemon, even if they don't get chosen." She looked at Kaneda while she spoke and glanced up at Aiden when she finished, clearly expecting him to continue translating. It was hard to focus on translator duties when your heart was breaking, though, and that's exactly what Aiden's big old softie of a heart was doing--splitting right in two. Even if they don't get chosen. Those words came from personal experience, and probably lots of it. He liked to tell himself that people had only left her in the lab for the same reason he'd left Cyndaquil and Rowlet--because another option had been better for them and not because the Tepig hadn't been good enough. But from the few conversations they'd had about it, most people skipped her over because of her weight. They'd never talked in detail about exactly how many times Nutmeg had been offered to other trainers and Aiden hoped they never did. The new information would only make him angry, and anger was an uncomfortable emotion for the normally upbeat kid. But his thoughts were running away with him again, and a long enough moment of silence had followed Nutmeg's words already. "She, uh," he began slowly, not quite making eye contact with Kaneda while he translated. "She likes that you're going through the lab. She says it's fun for all the pokemon to meet new trainers." He couldn't find it in him to share everything she'd said. "And that's cool," Aiden said, finally making eye contact when the conversation moved back to Kaneda's eggs. "Having a pokemon around will probably be easier on whatever hatches, too."WORDS ► 299 POKEMON ► nutmeg the tepig NOTES ► wizz • egg thread for heatmor +5 ruby gems (15)

These were the times when Kaneda really wished he could understand the little piggers. She had said something that clearly upset Aiden, or at least dampened his mood about. However, Aiden finally spoke and translated, and Kaneda decided that since he was changing subject it was best to do that. Just to change the subject. "Well if I was convinced to go to the Lab before, I sure as hell am now." He kept his warm smile on the two of them before leaning back. "Besides, I'm a little jealous of your story. Need a cool lab story of my own as well, y'know?" He laughed, leaning back on the cracked surface of the plain as he leaned his weight on his hands and looked down at his egg. "I didn't think about it that way, but Pokemon being around them is a good thing upon hatching. Otherwise, they think I'm a Pokemon and that's just strange... I guess they're already gonna think I'm the momma, so." He shrugged his shoulders. He'd be momma if he had to be. No shame in that. gems. 15 words. 191 notes. Clover, i think the cyndaquil that kaneda got as his starter is the same cyndaquil that aiden said no to so that like needs to be the next thread between these two thank you.
