▲ The person who’d pressed the pokeball into her hand (with a wink and a smirk bordering on wicked, now that she thought about it) had given her a simple warning about the magnemite: “Careful, he’s a jumpy one. He bites.” Fane didn’t think a magnemite of all pokemon could bite… well, anything, lacking a mouth. But the warning was heeded, and after consulting the heavy tome she carried around in her messenger bag, the young breeder decided that this would be the best place to meet her newest addition. After all, it was wide and open, and other electric types seemed comfortable enough to make their homes there- so maybe the location would soothe the magnet pokemon. Plus, she’d heard stories all the way down by the ranger station about a cloaked stranger offering rewards for scattered ruby gems along the way; why not get two birds with one stone? Sure enough, red stones twinkled in the sunlight everywhere on the ground, barely visible between the tall stalks of grass that rippled and swayed in the breeze. But more important to Fane at the moment was that crackle of electricity in the air, the way the hair on the back of her neck stood, like a bolt of lightning could come crashing down from the sky at any moment. This had to be the place. Digging through her messenger bag, she retrieved the pokeball, cradling it in the palm of her hand for a moment. Out of nowhere, electricity laced her hand. Every muscle in her arm tensed painfully. Fane gasped as she dropped the pokeball, where it landed next to her foot with a dull thud. “Arceus, that hurt,” she muttered under her breath, clutching one hand with the other to ease the sting. There were no marks on her arm, no permanent damage done- though it had surprised her, how much it felt like a more intense version of her usual pains. She glanced at the ball. A single spark leapt from it- confirmation that she wasn't just imagining things. @ OPEN ● 342
Chronologically this would take place after Fane has her starter pokemon, but since that thread's not finished yet, it's assumed here that she just wants to spend some time with her new magnemite. +5 ruby gems

All his damn eggs were finally hatched and he even had his fucking starter Pokemon. Three Pokemon in total that made two combatants and one freeloader. One Pidgey that would never fight so long as she kept trying to eat things, and the other who had more will to fight than he cared to admit- it was sort of scary how much she liked to bite everything and leer at trees, practicing for a real battle some day. And then he had his starter, of which he'd just gotten his hands on, who he didn't know terribly well. So, why not drag him out into a mountain plain to get to know him better? Drag was a strong word, but the Cyndaquil certainly had shaky and shy thoughts toward the adventure. Kaneda didn't mind. Instead, he was even holding the fire type in his arms to try and give him a peace of mind. With the promise that he didn't, you know, light Kaneda on fire-- even on accident. The idea he could light his Trainer on fire on accident seemed to have the little guy more nervous than relaxed. He found himself answering Kaneda in small squeaks and giving little whines here and there when his Trainer made a joke. Like the whining was laughter that just didn't translate well. Joking around was Kaneda's way of lightening the mood, though it seemed to do the opposite for this little Cyndaquil. The Cyndaquil liked to battle though, which Kaneda was happy to witness. Upon coming out of his Pokeball at the beginning of this venture, the little fire mole had popped out and materialized with a fire roaring on his back. He'd been completely confused when there wasn't an opponent to battle. Then Kaneda told him they were taking a bonding trip and the little Cyndaquil wasn't sure what he was supposed to do. So now they walked, minding their own business as Kaneda moved his hands instinctively under the belly of the Cyndaquil where he knew the small Pokemon enjoyed being rubbed. The Cyndaquil always had his eyes closed but now he was fully relaxed and enjoying this 'bonding time.' Suddenly 'bonding' didn't seem so bad if it always involved his tummy getting a good rubbing. Something caught Kaneda's ear. He stopped moving, stopped rubbing, and listened. Something like a small curse followed the noise previous and it had Kaneda raising a brow. So instinct led him to walking over and toward whatever the noise had been. Blonde. Female? Seemed hurt. Kaneda moved over, continuing to rub his Cyndaquil's tummy as he did so. Said Cyndaquil was tucked neatly away on the inside of his shirt, warm and comfortable in the fabric there. ▲ Fane stared intently at the pokeball, still gingerly rubbing her hand in small circular motions. Her mouth turned down in a small frown. She didn’t know if the ball itself had mitigated the shock- or by how much, if at all. Nor did she particularly want to find out if it could get any worse. She didn’t realize that a dark-haired man had approached her until he spoke. The girl whipped around with a start, blonde hair trailing over her shoulder as she did. He was much older than her, that much she could tell; and probably a trainer of some sort? This route wasn’t one of the safer ones to walk without a pokemon after all, and she was always less hesitant to trust someone who could befriend one. Besides, he was concerned enough to ask. The young breeder couldn’t help but notice that he was holding something under his shirt, but she tried her best not to stare. Then again, she wasn’t always the best at being subtle, and her grey eyes flicked from his face, to his shirt, to her own hand. “Sorry. Yeah, I’m fine, I think.” She held out her hand, turning it over to double-check that no visible damage had been done. All of her fingers were still able to wiggle; that was always a good sign. “I just- I didn’t realize a pokemon could shock you from inside their pokeball, you know?” Fane suppressed a cringe at how ignorant she sounded. Was that common knowledge? The book she had poured over a hundred times never mentioned it. On the ground nestled between two tall stalks of grass, the pokeball rocked to the side. She couldn’t tell if it was a warning or a taunt. <3 +5 ruby gems

Watching her eyes shift from his face to his stomach and then to her hand. He could tell she had questions and he wasn't about to argue the point that she didn't ask them. After all, why feed her information she may or may not want to hear? Instead, he listened, a smile on his face, looking down at the Pokeball that seemed comfortably tucked into the grass. He watched it shake and wondered if it was just being a patronizing ass or if it was in need of being picked up... or if it was just pissed off. He would understand that. "Pokemon are unpredictable bastards, that's for sure." He felt a small nuzzle to his abdomen and chuckled, moving his hand into pet Sonder before he pulled him up and out of his shirt a bit, just his little face and his muzzle so he could say hello. "Take Sonder here for example. Lazy bastard won't even walk himself."Something like a protesting squeak came from Sonder, because he definitely hadn't asked to be in his shirt, and he could walk himself! But quickly his Trainer was patting his head, reminding him that it was just a joke and he needed to 'chill out.' Didn't his Trainer understand he was a Cyndaquil and it was impossible for him to 'chill out??'"Either way, I'd be getting some rubber gloves, or even coating the Pokeball in something that would resist the electricity and keep it within the Pokeball. Could be discharging, some electric types just need to let off some steam every once in a while because their bodies produce the electricity naturally. Or it's just being an ass. Or it doesn't like it's Pokeball and wants to be out and about with you. While enjoying a Trainer, some Pokemon just like being out of their Pokeballs to stretch, or float, or whatever it does..."Oh wow, did he just ramble? He blinked at the ball, then slowly his eyes met hers and they blinked. "Sorry.... Hi, I'm Kaneda." He lifted his hand politely to shake hers. "And I'm a rambling dumbass."gems. 10 words. 365 notes. astra pokemon.sonder the cyndaquil

▲ “Oh no, you’re fine!” Fane reassured him with a polite laugh as she shook his hand. Kaneda sounded like he really knew what he was talking about; rubber gloves would be good to add to her pack, and she made a mental note to pick some up at the next town. She was content to listen and absorb everything he had to say- the more she learned, the better, after all. “I’m Fane; it’s nice to meet you. And you, too, Sonder,” she greeted the Cyndaquil with a small smile. It was adorable, the way his trainer was carrying the little fire-type around. She looked again at the pokeball, which was still for the moment. “The pokemon’s a magnemite… Or at least, that’s what I was told.” Fane’s lips pursed for a moment. “Some guy was trying to get rid of him… Them?” She interrupted herself, tilting her head to one side. “...And passed ‘em on to me. Though apparently ‘he bites’, and that's all that was said about that.” With slow, hesitating movements, she slid one of her hands back into her grey jacket a few inches and picked up the ball through the fabric. It didn’t feel right to just let it sit on the ground, but she didn’t have any insulating material on hand either- maybe the fabric of her jacket would protect her some, as she gingerly held the pokeball with her fingertips. “So all I can guess is they don’t like me very much. Which is okay, because we haven’t really met yet? And I thought this would be as good a place as any, for an electric type.” There was a hint of self-disappointment in her voice, but she quickly changed the subject. “But there’s also all these red gems lying around, which… I don’t think is a common occurrence?” Based on the way everyone had been talking about it, at least. She gestured vaguely to the ground around them with her opposite hand. <3 +5 ruby gems

Although being called adorable wasn't really what trickle Kaneda's fancy he probably would have been flattered if the mental note had been a verbal remark. He liked being told he was cute. Or hot. Or attractive in any way. Who didn't? Really, he was just a selfish bastard who enjoyed his ego getting a good stroke or two one way or another. Some would consider that shallow, others would call him 'just like every other guy.' He would not deny either claim. For the moment he would commit her name to memory. Fane. But give him about a week and all he would remember was the face of a blonde who had shock issues with her Pokémon. He wondered for a brief moment if this was her starter. Would the lab really let her have it if it shocked the shit out of her all the time? Maybe she had gone to the Ranger station. He would have to ask, when it was relevant. At the poor girl's expense, Kaneda let out a hearty laugh. "What a hell of an understatement! He bites... no shit." The idea that she was young and he should watch his language didn't even cross his mind. He was far too busy chuckling. What kind of a guy dropped an Electric Pokémon like that in a trainer's care and basically told them good luck? Maybe a prankster? Maybe he needed to have drinks with this guy... Watching her pick up the Pokeball had him lifting an amused brow. The talk of gems just had him shrugging his shoulders. "Dunno. I'm new to the region so it could be abnormal or it could be seasonal. I've got no clue." He narrowed his eyes and moved a thoughtful hand to his chin. "Y'know, I'm starting to wonder... where did you even get him? Lab? Ranger?" Now he was beyond curious and he had to know. Well in reality he didn't have to know but damn it all if he wasn't very curious and really wanted to know... gems. 15 words. 340 notes. astra pokemon.sonder the cyndaquil

▲ When he laughed, Fane grinned somewhat nervously. She had the distinct feeling that Kaneda was laughing at her and not necessarily with her… Or perhaps she was just imagining it. In either case, she didn’t really want to confront him about it. She settled for glancing back at the pokeball in her fingertips instead, avoiding eye contact. “Um, yeah...” The mention of the ranger’s station made her perk up a bit. “Oh, neither of those- I did start at the ranger’s station though, and got my starter, but it’s not the magnemite.” She patted her bag with her free hand, where Ceridwen’s ball was nestled. “She’s a grimer that has traveled all over, we’re going to see Inset together.” “As for this fella...” Fane frowned slightly. “There was some guy in Rigel city just trying to get rid of ‘em. Wouldn’t say why, though I think I worked that part out on my own. But I figured, well, you know, the pokemon would be better off with someone who would actually try to care.” There was the slightest edge to her voice. There were more appropriate channels to get rid of a pokemon you didn’t want than just handing them off on the street to Arceus knows who. Had she been a lot more confident in herself, she might have challenged the stranger- but she settled for at least taking in the unwanted pokemon. Ahh sorry this took so long! Also, Fane's starter thread has concluded~ +5 ruby gems
