There was no denying the obvious cuteness that was his Bagon. Sam thought he was adorable, but he didn't often voice it because it made Bagon snort and try to ram into something to prove he was strong. Sam had tried to tell the Dragon he could be cute and strong-- just look at Pikachu! But the Bagon would have none of that. Instead, it seemed the Bagon was set on being super strong and tough at all times. The cute moments Bagon didn't even realize he had from time to time were promptly ignored like they didn't even exist. "Shh, he'll hear you." Sam teased, moving his attention back to Aiden - well, physically anyway. He was sure to keep in mind that Bagon was nuzzled with an egg that didn't belong to Sam. "And yeah, basically. Ranging from starts to Pokemon that were needed for the same of researching their species in general. Some were released and observed, most of the time it depended on the mental state of the Pokemon and whether they wanted to be captive, trained, or wild. However, if they were tagged, they couldn't be captured. Instead, the Pokeball would just return to the Trainer like it would if the Pokemon had already been caught."gems. 5 words. 222 notes. Aiden winked knowingly and feigned zipping his lips. The Bagon would never hear about how cute he was from Aiden Gallagher. And luckily, there was a fascinating distraction from Bagon being cute--namely, the discussion on breeding starters. He nodded intently while Sam talked about the specifics of it all. Even though the Bagon in his peripheral vision kept stealing his attention, he was genuinely interested in Sam's job. Aiden had never cared much for science in school. He'd only done as well as was required to skate by in his private school. But this didn't feel like science. It felt cool. Fun, interesting, entertaining. If his biology professors had focused on the research of species, the way Sam talked about, instead of the whole bullshit about mitochondria (whatever those were) being the powerhouse of the cell (whatever that meant), Aiden might have been a more attentive student. "That's awesome," he said eagerly when Sam finished his spiel. "I never realized pokemon got to choose to be starters. I mean, it makes sense, but dang. I wonder if they do it that way in Inset, too?" It was intended as a rhetorical question but if Sam had an answer, Aiden wouldn't say no. "Did you work with any particular type of pokemon? Like, are there researchers who specialize in types the way some trainers do?"WORDS → 224 POKEMON → none right now NOTES → wizz • egg thread for mystery egg from inari's fall event, +5 ruby gems

As far as Inset went, he had no idea. He supposed he could ask his Professor at some point to get a solid answer. But with how much they cared for the Pokemon here, and how much they cared of misuse of the Pokemon, Sam didn't doubt that the Pokemon definitely had a say. The Ranger station even seemed keen on the Pokemon creating a bond and wanting to go with the Trainer. "As far as Inset, I'm not sure, and I'll get back to you on that." There was a humorless laugh that followed. "But as for me and Professor Griffon, uh, yeah. Sort of, I mean, we favor dual types and enjoy studying how they react to one another. Not so much on a cellular level, he's pretty much figured that out. But he prefers looking on a more personal level." Which suited Sam just fine. "Here on Inset, we've noticed that the mutations happen more frequently. A bit like Alola, where you have a Vulpix that's Ice instead of Fire, practically it's opposite!" His excitement was showing, clear in the bright grin across his face. "And then to have Fairy qualities once evolved?? Needless to say, Griffon's been excited to see what sort of mutations Inset might have to offer for the sake of research. Not to study in a lab, but to witness on a personal level."gems. 10 words. 233 notes. Clover

"Yeah, if you find out, let me know!" Here he was--Aiden Gallagher--curious about the inner workings of pokemon laboratories. It was a good thing this conversation had happened after he began his pokemon journey. Otherwise his parents would've gotten their hopes up about having another academic in the family. Alas, it was not meant to be. Regardless, Aiden was working under the assumption that Sam's offer was a genuine one so he pulled out his phone. He flipped to the add a contact screen and held the phone out for Sam. "Just put your number in and I'll text you." If the lab here in Inset ran similarly to the one Sam had experience with, well... maybe they took donations? Aiden couldn't ever see himself being the person who ran around tagging and tracking pokemon for research purposes, but he could absolutely see himself catching or breeding fire types to help other (smarter) people get that done. "Mm, yeah, I've heard of them. Didn't realize the Ninetales in that part of the world were fairy types, though. That's... hm. Interesting." Aiden wasn't quite sure how he felt about the ice type Vulpixes found in Alola. On the surface, a fire type aficionado shouldn't have cared much for that particular variety--but if he were being honest, he was curious to see how their strength and capabilities and move sets lined up with the fire type Vulpixes. (In practice, not on paper. That was another reason Aiden wasn't terribly interested in science: numbers and statistics and all that didn't click well in his brain. He needed to see something to get it, or to care about it.) "If it helps at all, I can text you about mutations if I find any? If it'd help that Griffon dude, I mean."WORDS → 301 POKEMON → none right now NOTES → wizz • egg thread for mystery egg from inari's fall event, +5 ruby gems (10)

Seeing Aiden hold out his phone and offer Sam to put in his information... well, it was sort of surreal for the Researcher. It wasn't as if Sam didn't ever make any friends. In fact, he made friends, it was just the idea of making friends that stuck or meant something. So, here Aiden was, offering to be that sort of friend and to even help him and Professor Griffon out with their research! It had a smile growing across Sam's face, head tilting as he took the device and start putting in his information. "Yeah, sure, that would be an amazing help actually."Once finished, he handed the device back and was just about to geek out about the Ninetails before his eyes caught sight of Bagon and he looked down at his starter and Aiden's egg. Bless, he'd fallen asleep with the egg. "I'd... apologize, but... it's almost too cute to handle." Not only was Bagon happily sleeping, which was rare for Sam to witness outside of his Pokeball, but his sleep was calm as well. He wasn't jolting around or twitching awkwardly like normal. It had Sam's heartwarming and his smile doing the same. The usually pessimistic Researcher was slowly finding the hope that he needed when dealing with the typically energetic and enraged baby Dragon. gems. 15 words. 232 notes. Clover

If there were two things in life Aiden loved, they were fire types and helping people. His offer to watch out for mutations was helping someone--and it gave him an excuse to hunt down more fire types in an effort to find mutated pokemon. Win, win. He hadn't hunted down many gems in the half hour or however long it'd been, but it had been a productive afternoon nevertheless. "Awesome!" Aiden waved away Sam's apology a moment later. He still wasn't nuts about dragon types or anything but the Bagon was ridiculously adorable down there, all cuddled up against his strange, patternless egg. "What are you sorry for? This is maybe the cutest thing I've seen all day." He backtracked on that one quickly, though. "Or second cutest, maybe. Friend of mine from Rigel sent me a video this morning--bunch o' baby Growlithes learning to use stairs. That's hard to top."Aiden laughed and had a sudden urge to watch the video again. (He also had an urge to get a Growlithe or two or twelve, but there was nothing sudden about that. He'd wanted one of those fire pups for years.) The way Aiden felt toward Fire types was exactly how Sam felt about dual types, which was a much broader spectrum, but he completely understood Adien's obsession and fully appreciated it. He wouldn't be shocked if Aiden ended up with a load of Growlithe puppies either, those things were adorable, even Sam could be wrapped into their cuteness. The mention of the video had Sam narrowing his eyes in thought before finally, he decided to voice his question. "Wait, is that the video where the Growlithe pups - and there are like a thousand of them - are yipping and barking and flopping down the stairs and on top of each other and like, one of them makes it up but then it gets pulled down by a sibling??" Because he'd seen that video the other day floating around social media and it had been really adorable, so he'd understand it trumping Bagon and the egg. Sometimes, cute just hit ya different ways. After all, he never thought he'd think a Bagon cute, or even think twice about it licking an egg being cute. If this moment were told to him as a story, he'd think it was gross and possibly question the Trainers who allowed a Bagon to lick an egg and then cuddle it. Since Bagon's are typically enraged and always smashing things... gems. 20 words. 230 notes. Clover

"Yeah, that's the one! Did you see the one whose ears hadn't quite perked up? They were all droopy and amazing," Aiden gushed. Even though he and Sam had literally just been talking about mutations--like barely a minute had passed since then--Aiden didn't realize it was a defect. He just thought that particular Growlithe's ears were developing more slowly than the others, and that they'd perk up before long. His ignorance really was blissful, though, and certainly much better than collecting gems. "I didn't see that one," Nutmeg added. She felt a bit left out of the glee. "That was the video I watched with you, right?" Aiden nodded boisterously. "Yeah! He was right near the end, the floppy eared dude." He pulled out his phone and loaded the YouTube app to pull up the video again. It was, of course, an entirely selfless act. Aiden Gallagher had absolutely no desire to watch the adorable Growlithe video again, no sir. He was just doing it for the sake of his starter. Regardless of the motivation, he turned the volume down low, so as not to disturb the snoozing Bagon, and full screened the video. He held his phone out while the video buffered so both Nutmeg and Sam could rewatch if they wanted.
