Hana didn't visit the forest much. Why? Because of... reasons.. Alright well first off, why would you? Why would you go out into the middle of the woods where there is grime and gross and stuff? Why wouldn't you just go to the beach? Wind, sun, sand, and the ocean. Alas, she was in a forest. Mostly because she was interested in the prospect of going new places on this journey to become... whatever she was going to become. The thought had been Ranger, and she really still wanted to pursue that dream. But the more she thought about it the more she decided she might want to enjoy being a Trainer just a little bit longer before she dove head first into being a Ranger. Right? Sure. Seemed legit. At the moment she was making flower crowns with Cottie, her Cottonee. Cute little thing loved to come in the forest and soak up the shade and sun as it shone through the leaves of the trees above them. The forest might have been growing on Hana, but that also might have been because Cottie was dancing around and keeping her company. She felt a kindred spirit in Cottie she couldn't explain. Usually, she felt that with water types but Cottie was a grass and fairy type, which just made her all the more curious and had her constantly bringing Cottie out. She also liked to hear Cottie rant about this or that when she ran across a reason. "First flower crown complete!" Hana placed it on her head and adjusted it, putting a flower between her teeth and grinning down at Cottie. "Do I look like a magical elf princess??"'Mmm...' Cottie thought about it a moment before finally blinking her big yellow eyes. 'More like a forest nymph.'Hana beamed at her Pokemon and threw a fist into the air in triumph. "This should definitely be an Instagram post," Leo gushed when Emily set him down in the field. The seed pokemon swiveled around, taking in the sights of the clearing. "Yeah, it's beautiful," Emily agreed. Her first thought was about bug spray, not social media, but hey, different strokes for different folks. While she pulled out her bottle of Off! and began spraying herself, her Sunkern hopped around to hunt down a gem. It didn't take him long to find one tucked away in the tall grass but, as a limbless pokemon, he was all but powerless to actually grab it. He could've used his teeth, he supposed, but how would he ever get--or stay--upright when he was holding a gem? The thing looked like it weighed eight whole ounces! Maybe ten! For a pokemon who weighed four pounds (64 ounces, for the non-Americans out there), that was a lot. And that was all fine because Leo wasn't interested in collecting the gems. He was interested in collecting likes. This was a potentially great photo op with a chance for a funny-as-all-hell caption, and his followers would love it. With that in mind, Leo kicked the gem a few inches to the left so it wasn't all hidden away in the shadows. Then he struck a pose next to it, looking as dapper as a young seed possibly could while also throwing some serious side-eye at a gem that he couldn't ever hope to pick up. "C'mon, Emily," he called through gritted teeth while she took seventeen years to pull up her phone's camera. For a species with ten fingers, humans sure did manage to move slow an awful lot of the time. "I'm hurrying, I'm hurrying," she said while she moved about as fast as a dead Slugma. She had three eggs to juggle, though, and she cared more about making sure they were nestled safely in the grass than she cared about getting (more) pictures of Leo. In the time it took her to start snapping a few pictures, Leo's eyes wandered. And then. He saw her. "Oh... wow," Leo muttered. Emily caught the slack-jawed look in one of her pictures but she didn't catch the reason for it until Leo--very uncharacteristically--broke pose without even looking over a single picture. He hopped as quickly as his little legless body could carry him, making a beeline towards the most beautiful plant he'd ever seen in his whole (admittedly very short) life. "That crown suits you, miss," a clearly love-struck Leo said as he approached Cottie. "The daisies, especially... they really bring out the color in your eyes." Was it obvious that his only experience with romance was via romcoms? Probably. But oh well. After making the first, Hana made Cottie a flower crown as well. She was sure to make it with flowers that matched the beautiful shade of Cottie's eyes. Cottie didn't mind it, floating about and twirling this way and that as she soaked up the sun and enjoyed the beautiful smells of the flowers around the forest ground. Just after making Cottie's flower crown Hana got started on the flower crown that would go on the egg she was currently trying to hatch. She gave a small chuckle as she felt the egg knock and bump her every once in a while. What had really surprised her, was a Sunkern approaching... way faster than she ever realized a Sunkern could move. Was it wild? Was it tamed? Instinct led her to move a protective inch or two closer to her egg. Cottie had dealt with plenty of wild Pokemon while in the wild herself so Hana could keep a distant eye on her. It wasn't like she was being faced with a Charizard- it was a Sunkern, who if Hana was being honest, looked a little starstruck. Oh, Cottie seemed to have an admirer. Suddenly, Hana was nearly grinning. She glanced around and eyed the Trainer who probably claimed the Sunkern as her own, giving a friendly wave, her flower crown falling down on her head a bit. She blew it, pushing it into her hair more. She was going to be washing flowers out of her hair for weeks. Cottie, on the other hand, had been minding her own business, looking for flowers for the flower crowns her Trainer was making. And then along came something that caught her really very off guard. She blinked at the Sunkern, a bit taken aback. The wind wasn't terribly powerful so she could keep herself pretty rooted to the ground. But this Sunkern had caught her off-guard with his compliments. 'Does it?' her voice was unusually high. Again, compliments made her a bit uncomfortable and what else would she do while uncomfortable than sound a bit squeaky and be a bit rude? She was a bit of a brat, after all. 'I wasn't sure about the crown at first, not knowing what attention it might attract....' could that even be considered an insult? She wasn't sure, sounded more like a fact to her. slightly damp mystery egg - second thread gems. 10 words. 405 notes. Clover pokemon. cottie the cottonee

"Oh, yes, ma'am," Leo gushed while he took a tentative hop closer to the Cottonee. The subtext of her response--that maybe she hadn't wanted to attract his attention--soared well over Leo's head. "The crown was a splendid choice. Of course, I'm sure anything would look marvelous on you." Bam! That was suave as hell, wasn't it? If only he'd had a rib cage, it would've been puffed out proudly at the delivery of that horridly cheesy line. But alas, Leo was only a kernel and kernels didn't have ribs. "I'm--I'm so sorry," Emily called out as she approached. Each arm supported the weight of one egg and the third was protruding from her backpack. (Getting them all together had taken a moment, hence the delay in chasing after Leo.) She hadn't expected such an outburst from him--usually the Sunkern was stuck like glue to her whenever she was aiming a camera at him. Luckily, the Cottonee's trainer didn't seem to mind; she waved at Emily and Emily lifted her right wrist from the base of the egg just enough to give a half-wave without risking the egg's safety. She tossed in a nervous smile as well. "Was he bothering you?""No," Leo answered promptly, even though the question clearly hadn't been addressed to him. He turned to face his trainer, leaning backwards so he could more or less make eye contact with her. "I was just, um," oh shoot! The Sunkern's face scrunched up as he tried to think of a fancy, sophisticated-y kind to say he was meeting them. The Cottonee was beautiful and elegant and refined, after all, and she deserved a fancy, sophisticated gentleman! Shaymin blessed him with an answer a heartbeat later and the pause that could have lasted an eternity was actually over in a maybe a second. "I was just making the acquaintance of these lovely ladies." Yes, good, perfect. That fit the bill, didn't it? He swung back around to face the object of his affection and her trainer. "My name is Leo, and this gal is my trainer, Emily," he said to both of them. Then he focused explicitly on the Cottonee, making it clear that his next words were meant for her, even though he spoke loudly enough for everyone to hear him. "And if you're ever on Instagram... Mr-underscore-LeoTheKern. Hit me up." He tossed her (what he believed to be) an alluring wink and left it that. 'Uuuuuhhh....' Honestly, Cottie couldn't believe what was happening. Just her luck, to find some smitten Sunkern in a perfectly peaceful field of flowers. She'd be a liar if she ever said that his flattery wasn't working on getting her cute little cheeks to flush a bit more pink than usual, but she'd also not be herself if she didn't deny it fully and try to change the subject. But the Trainer whom the Sunkern belonged to seemed to be doing that for her. Thank Arceus.Hana couldn't even get a word in, that no the Sunkern wasn't bothering her per-say. However, perhaps Cottie might have been. But Sunkern wasn't about to let her speak. Instead, he quickly defended himself and Hana couldn't help but smile softly at him - although a little amused. Her expression read, very clearly, bless.A slow blink was given as the Cottie watched Leo introduce himself and then... oh, was that some sort of wink sent her way? Was he really going to shamelessly hit on her until she protested outright? Part of her wanted to, part of her didn't, and another part of her was completely confused by what he said. She rotated her puffy little body to eye her Trainer. 'What in Shaymin's name is an Instagram??'Hana was grinning. "It's an app, where you take pictures and post them for the world to see if they find them. Apparently, Mr. Leo's got a following he's rather proud of and would love for you to join." Oh, why wouldn't she encourage this? And like a good Trainer, she turned toward Emily and offered her hands up. "Do you need some help juggling your eggs?" She gave a small smile. "I'm Hana, by the way."Her Trainer's answer only had Cottie wanting to ask more questions. Unfortunately, she was promptly ignored by her Trainer and now left to socialize with the thing that kept trying to swoon her enough to get an egg out of her. '....What's an app?' She asked him finally, with a slightly duller tone than usual. slightly damp mystery egg - second thread gems. 15 words. 386 notes. Clover pokemon. cottie the cottonee

The young seedling found his heart positively melting at his love's confession. She didn't know what Instagram was! Gosh, wasn't that endearing? Then she turned to him and asked him a question! She specifically asked him this time. Like, she wasn't looking at her trainer at all. He couldn't get over the flat lilt in her voice. Everything about her was, just, wow. Leo licked his lips and gave a tentative hop to the side. It carried him juuust a little bit closer to the Cottonee as well, which was, you know, purely accidental. "An app is short for application," he said wisely. "Humans download them onto their phones. Some of them are games and some of them, like Instagram, are for social media."If Cottonee didn't know what Instagram or apps were, she probably also had no earthly idea what social media meant. Leo didn't realize that, though. Despite his persistent infatuation (or perhaps because of it) he didn't put two and two together. She was obviously wild but as a domestically hatched pokemon who adored technology, he didn't interact with wild pokemon--or ex-wild pokemon--very often. "On Instagram, you put up pictures of yourself or places that you've been or food that you've eaten or really, anything that you've been a part of. You can add captions if you want. And if people like what they see, they follow you." His tone said he was talking about something thrilling even though the explanation itself was on the slightly-more-boring side. As if him and his oblivious self hadn't done enough damage already, Leo wasn't done. "I have quite a few followers, but someone as exquisite as you..." He looked the flower crown wearing beauty over from, well, whatever phrase is a Cottonee's equivalent of head to toe. "Phew, your follow count would blow mine out of the water."Emily held back the desire to laugh and shook her head at the Sunkern's antics. The Cottonee didn't seem interested, anyone with half an ounce of empathy could see that; as part of the girl code, Emily will intervene sooner rather than later if the situation didn't change. But for now, she was trainer first and female second--if her pokemon wanted to learn to flirt through trial-by-fire, who was she to stop him? It would make for a cute story one day, if nothing else. So she focused on the other girl instead. "Oh, thank you, but I'm really okay." Emily waved off Hana's offer to help and knelt down, gently setting her three eggs on the ground. (The Cottonee seemed to be ever better than her phone's camera at keeping Leo in place so it seemed safe enough.) "And it's nice to meet you! I'm Emily." Emily assumed (wrongly) that Leo had already learned their names but for her own sake, she gestured to the Cottonee. "What's her name?" The question was directed at Hana but if her Cottonee was desperate enough, it could act as a lifeline for her--a ready made excuse to jump away from her scintillating conversation about apps, as it were. Slow and calculated blinking was all that Cottie could even bother to manage as she listened to this Sunkern go on, and on, about something that obviously even Hana didn't use at regular intervals. It must have had something to do with an item Hana used in her spare time. But that was a lot of things... was it the 'gear' thing that they were always looking at? 'They' being the Trainers. Like their eyes were glued to them. Mostly the contestant types... because they missed the 'good old days' just as much as they enjoyed the current days. All that to say that Cottie had seen a fair share of Pokemon who had ventured off with a human because they enjoyed human things but she had never seen one so infatuated with their technology before. But then again maybe she was simply too lazy or tired to care about their technology. Hana had been lucky she was awake enough and enjoyed flowers enough to make flower crowns with her that day, let alone meet new people. The compliments - that's what she assumed they were from the tone Leo used - were not completely ignored but they did seem to confuse the poor Cottie more than actually flatter her. What did it mean to have 'followers?' Sounded like it would make her a legendary, which she had no interest in. But apparently to those on the 'social media's, it was a big deal... she should probably sympathize with Leo. She should probably try to understand or try to agree with him that she might, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. Instead, her brows furrowed at him and just as she was about to answer him, she heard the Trainer's talking. She hopped away from Leo, just enough to begin floating in Hana and Emily's direction. 'Cottie! I'm Cottie!' Her little leaves flailed while they carried her as if trying to garner the Trainer's attention as much as possible. Hana was giggling. How couldn't she be? Cottie was trying so hard to understand what was happening simply because she was curious and partly because she knew that she should try and communicate with other Pokemon. But Hana had learned that her more bratty and tired tendencies typically had her short temper boiling all too quickly. She didn't like to have to deal with others, specifically when they were trying to flatter her. So to see her so expertly avoid the conversation and the flattery that was given to her, Hana couldn't help but find amusement in it. Not in the sense that she was making fun of Cottie, but in the sense that Cottie could use the growth and Hana found it amusing. "I'm not terribly original with my nicknames." Hana admitted, glancing at Leo. "So you're a real hotshot on social media, hm?" She felt a little bad for the Sunkern, not getting much reaction from her Cottonee because she just wasn't interested in that sort of attention at the moment. slightly damp mystery egg - second thread gems. 20 words. 522 notes. Leo's flirtations were working wonderfully, he could just tell. Unfortunately, Leo was running out of things to say about Instagram and social media; it was hard to wax eloquent about those sorts of things when the other pokemon in the conversation didn't know anything about it. And Leo didn't know much about, well, anything outside of social media. Which meant there was only one way to keep the conversation alive. "So," he began while he took another hopefully-dashing hop forward. "Tell me about yourself."His request came at almost the same instant Emily asked about the Cottonee's name. For some unfathomable reason, the Cottonee--Cottie--jumped on the chance to answer Emily's question instead of his own. Playing hard to get? Maybe. With that idea in mind, Leo decided to let her go. He didn't play games, after all. (Naturally, if she came back, he wouldn't turn her down.) "It's a pleasure to meet you, Cottie!" Emily knelt down to be at eye level with Cottie as the Cottonee hopped her way. "How long've you and your trainer been together?"Leo frowned at the question. Why hadn't he thought of that? Something specific but still somewhat open ended, and probably something with a happy answer since Hana and Cottie seemed to like each other... genius. But. It was too late. Cottie wasn't interested, he repeated to himself. So he focused on Hana instead. Besides, she'd asked him a question, hadn't she? "Mm, yes." Leo sounded notably more glum than he had been while talking to the ever-enchanting Cottie. "I recently passed 10K followers on Instagram." Why was k shorthand for thousand? Leo didn't know. He just knew that it was. He felt his eyes wandering toward Cottie quite against his will. Leo's lips curled into the smallest little frown. This rejection business was no fun and, quite honestly, the kernel wasn't built for it. He was an instant gratification sort of fellow--think of a cool picture idea, grab a camera, post it online, and watch the little hearts roll in, all in a matter of minutes. That was much more his speed than... this. "So." He cleared his throat, stole one last glance at the gorgeous Cottonee, and used his old strategy (ask about them) on a new target (Hana). Holy.... Kyogre... that was insane. He must have had a popular aesthetic or something. She thought only high in Coordinators and Trainers got follows like that, but she could be wrong. After all, social media was a downfall of hers back whens he did do Contests. "Uh, wow. That's really impressive Leo." She laughed, but only because she was completely flabbergasted that a Sunkern had gotten more followers than her. "And not just for a Sunkern, but for Instagram in general..." To further embarrass herself, she gave a small nod at his question. "Yeah, I uh, I was on it a lot when I was Coordinating, but I've sort of just backed off of it recently while focusing more on becoming a Ranger." She admitted, blinking at him. "How long have you been on Instagram?" As if the wound wasn't deep enough... Cottie shrugged her leaves once she landed, ignoring the conversation that didn't interest her in the slightest and focusing instead on the Trainer that asked her a question that she decided wasn't borning enough to take a nap on. 'I've been with her for... oh, a few days? Maybe a week...' she acted as if it wasn't a big deal, but instead found herself happy, smiling even. 'I've enjoyed it, more than I thought it would. I was making due in the forest beforehand, but Hana offered more help and nap times than my previous circumstances so, I figured, why not?'slightly damp mystery egg - second thread gems. 25 (+ 100 because next post = 10) words. 251 notes.
