The thought of watching himself on a TV show made Aiden cringe. "You're a better man than me, then. I hate watching recordings of myself." He shook his head, wincing in mock-disgust. "I mean, one day, when--" not if "--my team and I are champion fighters, I'll be okay being on TV or whatever. It'll mostly be about them. But even then... I probably won't watch it unless it's to see where we could improve."It was a crazy way to be talking, really. Aiden had his starter, a puppy, a bird who objectively hated him, and a non-fire type. None of them had experience in a real trainer-versus-trainer sort of fight. Hell, even Aiden himself didn't have experience with that. All that considered, he wasn't even in a good position to assume he'd ever be a reasonably successful trainer, never mind a champion. But what was the point of dreaming if you dreamed small? His eyes widened when Kaneda mentioned how often he buried the egg. Every single day! That was nuts! "Props, dude. That's dedication." He whistled and ran his fingers up Nutmeg's back, leaving a ruffle in her fur. Though Nutmeg was quiet for most of their conversation, her posture gradually relaxed when she realized Kaneda wasn't regularly side eyeing her the way some people did, when they were trying to remember if all Tepigs were... well... her size. The idea that no one around her cared about her size was reassuring and she found herself settling into the conversation--though she didn't have much to add yet, her ears twitched and her eyes focused on whoever was speaking at the time. There was a moment where neither Aiden nor their new friend spoke so Nutmeg cleared her throat. "If... if heat is good for eggs, I could try... using a light ember on it, maybe? Would that help anything?" Her voice was still soft, still timid, but it shook a little less than it had before. "Ooh, that's interesting! Would ember help eggs?" The repeated question was mostly rhetorical and he stared pointedly at his egg while he asked it. His eyes darted to Kaneda afterwards for an actual question. "Not speed up hatching or anything--I know only Flame Body and whatever can do that--but can warmth help 'em in other ways? Or is it dangerous, even in small quantities?"WORDS ► 397 POKEMON ► nutmeg the tepig NOTES ► wizz • egg thread for heatmor +5 ruby gems

[ ] It was strange to Kaneda that Aiden wasn't the type to enjoy watching himself on the TV. That wasn't to say that Kaneda was vain, but he wouldn't think twice about seeing himself on the big screen if it was a TV show about idiots with eggs because that's exactly how he felt right about now. Like an idiot. With an egg. Just hoping to keep the damn thing from cracking and keeping it buried enough in the ground that it was happy. When Nutmeg made noise, Kaneda's eyes dropped to her and he raised an inquisitive brow. It wasn't out of neglect he didn't notice the Tepig's size, he just hadn't seen a Tepig before so he wouldn't have another size body to judge her by. Did it really matter if she was big? She was a pig, wasn't that what they were supposed to be? Fat and happy? He sort of envied them, because it sounded like a pretty ballin' hobby. Eating and blowing fire all the time. Sort of made them sound more like dragons than pigs though. How funny. "Hell if I know." Kaneda shrugged his shoulders. "I know it likes to be under the dirt." How many times had he said that? He felt like he was starting to sound like a broken record. "I know it's a ground type, so the fire won't really affect it in a negative way. The shell's pretty hard, so I doubt it'll do anything bad to it?" He was unsure of himself because, well, he wasn't sure one way or the other. His eyes turned back to Aiden. "I mean, could I dig a hole and have her heat it a bit, then I could bury the egg in there and not worry about it getting cold... but then again, things bury themselves to be cooler so... maybe it's best to just, bury it and call it a day?" That seemed right... right? Right.gems. 5 words. 355 notes. Clover , they are the biggest egg derps it makes me incredibly happy.

Kaneda seemed willing to go along with whatever but the lack of confidence either way had Aiden on edge. Nervousness was an unfamiliar and uncomfortable feeling for him and, if he were honest, he didn't quite know how to handle it. "Maybe... maybe just digging is better?" Arceus, when had he become such a wuss? But Aiden couldn't help it. Kaneda sounded reasonably sure that the fire wouldn't harm the Larvitar egg--but what if Kaneda was wrong and it wasn't a Larvitar egg at all? He was totally fine with battling because it involved pokemon who, for one thing, consented, and, for another, benefited from it. They saw new strategies, they leveled up, maybe learned new moves, learned which tactics to try and which to ditch, all sorts of things. Fighting was beneficial to the pokemon and the trainer. Battling was fun, battling was challenging, battling was an adrenaline rush, battling was awesome. But this little egg of Kaneda's wasn't a battler. It was just trying to grow, the same way as Aiden's little Heatmor child. And Aiden, bless his nonexistent soul, didn't want to ruin that. He especially didn't want to drag Nutmeg into a situation where she was responsible for ruining that. Nope. That was too much. "Yeah. Burying it and calling it a day sounds good." It was much easier to torchic out when Kaneda mentioned it first. Aiden hadn't been aware he was holding his breath until it all came whooshing out when the risk had passed them. [ ] Yep, Torchicing out sounded like a great idea. Who wanted to risk boiling the egg? Then he'd probably... be really pissed for a really long time. At himself, though, not at Aiden. It would be his fault for having let it happen, after all. But as usual, when Kaneda was upset, he'd start taking it out on whoever was present. A bad habit, but one he didn't plan on breaking anytime soon if only because he simply didn't see it harming anybody around him. After all, he'd traveled alone most of his life and been a captive for the other half. Who in the hell did he have to bother or affect with his negativity? At the moment, Aiden. But who could tell if they'd stay friends after this? Buddies? Pals? Sure, buddy or pal, but friends was a completely different league. "Yep." Kaneda agreed finally, letting out his own held breath as he started using his hands to dig into the hard plain beneath them. He shifted the egg out of the way, to be sure it stayed plenty far enough away not to get sucked into the hole prematurely and bounce around. It wasn't like Kaneda was a 'brute' per-say, but he wasn't used to having to be so gentle. It was the same reason he never held or dealt with baby Pokemon... but now here he was, getting two new babies of his own. Yikes."So you and Nutmeg gonna keep gem hunting?" Speaking of, he was pocketing the gems he got from digging the hole for his egg as his question rolled from his lips. gems. 10 words. 288 notes. Clover

When Kaneda said he buried the egg every day, Aiden hadn't realized he meant he did it... by hand. That was a whole new level of dedication and the sight of it sent Aiden's eyebrows sky high. "I thought you meant, like, with a shovel. Geez." Now that he said it out loud, that was obviously impractical; where was the boy supposed to carry a shovel? His bag wasn't nearly large enough for such a thing and walking around the whole damn region with a shovel in your hand was a good way to get the cops called on you for "suspicious behavior." But even if that thought had occurred to Aiden earlier, he still would've assumed Kaneda used a tool of some kind. Not just his bare hands. Damn. Kaneda's question pulled him back to reality and he nodded. "Yeah, eventually," he said while he carried on stroking Nutmeg's back. "We did a good couple of hours worth of work this morning so a little break's not killing us." The real reason was that Nutmeg hadn't gotten much cardio--or much of any sort of workout--back at the lab and he wanted to give her a chance to rest before they got back to work. She wanted to get stronger and Aiden wanted that for her as well, but pushing yourself too far too fast only led to injuries. "You going for another egg?" He assumed the answer was yes; that seemed to be what most people were after, and Aiden himself was no exception. WORDS ► 257 POKEMON ► nutmeg the tepig NOTES ► wizz • +5 ruby gems (15)

[ ] Huh, a shovel. How he hadn't thought of that by now he wasn't sure. A shovel would make it easier. He could get one of those shovels that fold up and are compact to fit in Trainer's packs. Come to think of it, hadn't he met a traveling salesman like that once before? He doubted the guy remembered him, even if he did. He'd know if he saw his face. He shrugged his shoulders at the thought, finally, before chuckling. "I just don't have one, and I've got hands... if I had some sort of Pokemon I guess they could do it for me, or at least help." By then the hole was done and he was putting the egg in it, moving dirt around and above the egg. It was buried just shy of being fully surrounded in the hole. He packed it gently, letting the dirt settle naturally around the egg. There was a small fresh mound of dirt by the time he was done. Sort of looked like he buried some berries... "What, with these things?" The question was rhetorical, but he held up the gems to make the point more clear. "I don't know. Maybe? I'm not much of a momma bird, this egg might be my last for a while. But I guess there wouldn't be much harm in it."gems. 15 words. 241 notes. Clover

Aiden nodded at the rhetorical question, half hoping to hear an ardent yes. He was working under the assumption that color of the egg's shell at least matched the color of the pokemon, if not the type (ruby for fire, jade for grass, opal for water, all that). Not all red pokemon were fire types but some of them were. So he figured the more people there were buying the red eggs, the more chances there were for the red shelled eggs to hatch into red fire types. And if someone was foolish enough to not want their fire types, well, Aiden would be right in the wings, waiting to take over baby-rearing duties. But perhaps it wasn't meant to be. The boy didn't sound terribly interested in the prizes he got--like, if he ended up with enough gems for an egg, that was great, but if he didn't, well, no harm no foul. Aiden could not even begin to relate. "I'm not much of a momma bird, either," Aiden admitted while he looked over his red and tan egg. "But I love fire types. Can't get enough of 'em. So if there's a chance there's a fire type in one of those eggs, I'm buying as many as I can." He nudged his backpack with his foot and laughed. "I mean, given the rate I'm collecting these things, that'll probably mean I'm only buying one. But still."While the boys talked, Nutmeg got to her hooves at last and took a few steps closer to the egg, eyeing it critically. "Do you think this one'll hatch soon?" Aiden gave an over-dramatized shrug. "Haven't the foggiest, honey bun. I've never hatched an egg before. I heard they shake a bit before hatching and this one's still as a rock, but I mean... I dunno if that's a gradual thing or if the shaking only starts a few minutes before it actually hatches." He looked over at Kaneda, clearly hoping the boy might have some wisdom to impart. [ ] Oh, well, that was it. Cat was gonna have to come out of the bag. Nutmeg -- the Tepig, wasn't it? -- had asked a question and Kaneda wasn't sure what it was. By what Aiden said he knew only that it was related to the shaking and to his egg... A small chuckle later and he couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. Thankfully it was pretty easily figured out once Aiden finished. "I'm not sure what you asked, Nutmeg. Your speech is Greek to me." He admitted. "I'm actually new to the whole egg thing myself, you see." A small laugh escaped him. "I got one back in Johto, but I mean, it was a while ago and the thing hatched before I even had a chance to blink... so."He was really hoping that Aiden would get the hint that he was deaf to the Pokespeech. He couldn't help but feel a bit bad. He really would have liked to have said he was as soon as he met people. He couldn't help but laugh at the face he imagined everyone making as he answered their greeting with, 'Hey, my name's Kaneda, I don't understand Pokespeech, good talk.' While that might cut out awkward situations like this it was far too much work and Kaneda was far too friendly for that to be how he greeted people. Most of the time it wasn't an issue. He supposed that was just the Inset region- throwing him curveballs left and freakin' right. gems. 20 words. 268 notes. Clover

Nutmeg's jaw dropped open and if only pigs could have flushed, she would've been bright red. Her speech... was Greek to him? Hers? Nutmeg's instinct was to blame herself--maybe she wasn't enunciating properly, make she was speaking too softly, maybe this, maybe that. The fact that he simply couldn't understand any pokemon never crossed her mind. "I'm sorry," she muttered, and slapped a hoof over her mouth an instant later--because of course, he wouldn't be able to understand that either. She glanced anxiously at Aiden. "Can you--?""Huh? Oh! Yeah!" He patted Nutmeg on her head and grinned at Kaneda. "Nutmeg says she's sorry for your, uh, deafness." It was, needless to say, not a perfect translation. Nutmeg had been apologizing for her own deficiency and Aiden thought she was just being sympathetic to the boy. "Maybe you just need to get a few pokemon of your own to start learning?" It was easy advice for him to give, since he'd been able to understand pokemon... gosh, for as long as he could remember. The idea spawned a new question and he looked curiously at his egg. "Y'know..." he began slowly, drawing the still-ashamed Tepig's eyes to him. "I've never met a newborn pokemon before. I wonder if they can speak in a way people can understand, or if that's something they have to learn?"WORDS ► 228 POKEMON ► nutmeg the tepig NOTES ► wizz • +5 ruby gems (25) if you're up for it, I'll throw up part 3 after your post c:

[ ] Well wasn't that a curious question. Kaneda had never thought of that. What if the Pokemon would need to learn how to speak? Would he have to teach it? He couldn't very well do that if he himself were deaf... Well shit.A small laugh left him, his own thought the reason before he grinned at Aiden. "You know, I have no idea. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to teach them, or if maybe they should see a breeder about it? Looks like I'll be taking a pit stop to a library or something before this thing hatches..."The last thing he needed to do was raise this thing wrong. He cared a great deal for the little Larvitar and he hadn't even met it yet! There was no way he wanted to abuse the right he was earning with burying this thing every single day and taking decent care of it. A small breath later and he leaned back, looking down at the mound, then back to Nutmeg. She had fidgeted and seemed nervous. "It's not you babe, it's me." He admitted with a wink. "I've never been able to understand anything that couldn't speak my language. Like psychic Pokemon dealing in thought and that sort of thing." He didn't want her to think she'd done something wrong. gems. 25 + 100 words. 240 notes. Clover, that sounds wonderful! Go right ahead~ <3
