”I shore don’t know what the world these gems is fer anyway.” Mila called back over her shoulder to the little train-like procession of pokemon picking their way along the path behind her. They had all been released as per usual to stretch their legs. Q took her place at the front of the line, growing a bit more confident day by day in her place as leader of the team as Mila’s starter pokemon and closest companion on the many roads they’d traveled together already. Then came Jameson, the Lillipup, kept closest to the front of the line for safe keeping from the back. Marian the Vulpix was right behind, giving him a motherly nudge here and there to keep him on track. Chanticleer the Fletchinder flew overhead, floating along and scanning the path ahead for any obstructions or problems. Elmer the Ducklett brought up the rear acting as stern caboose, in the default dad mode he’d been given somehow.
They were a motley crew of a little family, and the eggs weighing down Mila’s backpack would be even more strange additions he was sure. She was always going on about keeping it in the farm family but he wondered what a fire fox, two dogs, and a fiery bird had to do with farm life. She’d rattled something off about a fox in the hen house with a laugh and he’d only given her a perplexed and mortified stare in response. But he could hold his own if either of the fire types gave him any lip - not that they had. Chanticleer, it seemed, only had issues with a certain type - something that had become an issue for the team as a whole when his prejudice got them all in sticky situations.
< Another one! > Jameson yipped, darting off the path to the too-late tsking of Marian who went to follow after him into the brambles to retrieve the glinting gem. Just on the other side of the thicket they emerged to find a path just like the one they’d been on was running parallel to them, and a young boy was there as well, < Hello, sweetheart! > Marian greeted him warmly, her matronly tone evident as she melted over the human child. Jameson picked up the gem between his itty-bitty teeth and backed slowly through the bramble patch back to Mila who was looking through the tree limbs to see who Marian was talking to, ”Somebody 'err?”
