For the first time in her life Zhee was nervous. Or was it excited? Perhaps a swirling tide of both, one emotion washing over the other again and again. Her hands were sore from wringing them impatiently. Sure, she had traveled before, but nothing like this. She was finally on her own, not under the thumb of the dreadful woman who just so happened to be her grandmother. Images of her funeral flashed through her memory, after all it was the only reason she was here to begin with. However, instead of feeling any sense of loss the only thing Zhee thought was about the fact that that was one of the only times she was allowed to wear so much black (and she loved it).
The end of Zhee's lips curled as she enjoyed the thought of being able to wear whatever her heart desired from now on. No more ugly, itchy, poofy pastel dresses! Instead, she wore black skinny jeans with tears in the knees (purchased that way), a maroon shirt with a black dragon design, a gray cardigan, a maroon slouchy hat, and some comfortable walking sneakers. You know, the kind of clothes grandmother would have called pajamas.
Ugh, why waste another thought on that woman! She was here! Inset was a whole new life for her, and that new life started today.
Zhee marched straight for the Lab. She had little interest in anything else. Gaining a partner to spend her time with was top priority. Not just some Pokemon who helped around the house, no, a partner! A Pokemon in which she could share a bond with, one that cared about her just as much as she did it! Of course, these were just her romanticized thoughts of Pokemon ownership, since she was never allowed to own one before. Thoughts based on the evidence of a private teacher from long ago who had a very loyal and affectionate Arcanine. Perhaps today Zhee would learn that not all Pokemon are incredibly loving or affectionate.
Still, thoughts of cuddly Pokemon floated through her head as she sped walked to the Lab. Then, the normally confident Zhee hesitated at the door, her heart beating on her ribcage, cheeks flushed from marching the whole way. Zhee figured she would at least need to be somewhat but not overly friendly, since being herself might lead to her not getting a good Pokemon. She took a deep breath and composed herself, then took the three steps to make it through the door. Calm, confident, slightly aloof is how she presented herself as she made her way to the counter even though her heart was still beating hard with anxiety. (448 words) (poison, dark, and bug are zhee's fav!) (thanks in advance!)

[newclass=.juni-rs]position:relative;background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.38);padding:5px;top:41px;margin-left:0px;font-family:montserrat;font-weight:bold;letter-spacing:1px;color:#FFFFFF;text-align:center;font-size:12px;text-transform:uppercase;text-shadow:-2px 1px #E854D6;[/newclass] [attr="class","bbb-icon"] [attr="class","bbb-txt"] < Look out! > a high pitched squeal that ended in a giggle came from the floor as a pudgy reptilian grass type careened around the corner of the counter. Whatever was in pursuit of it disappeared in a flash from the ball in the hand of the portly lab assistant out of breath entering the room with her thick brows furrowed in annoyance. ”Who are you telling to look out, Bul-” she started to ask, pulling out a second ball to bring him back too when she looked up and saw the young lady at the counter. Just what she’d been afraid of. Chaos in the lab with a trainer in there. Great. She cleared her throat and came around the corner of the desk, ”Come on, presentation time since you just volunteered yourself.” she said, stooping to pick the still tittery Bulbasaur up and tuck him under one arm before extending the other for a handshake. ”Hello, welcome to the Cassiopeia Lab. My name is Tate and I’ll be assisting you today.” she went back around the desk, plopping Bulbasaur on the countertop that rose up from the desk a bit and pointed out towards the door. She looked over her glasses at the client of the moment, shuffling her hands around to gather a stack of forms and a clipboard and pen before handing them over to her, ”Please fill these forms out and give me the information verbally for the questions with asterisks as you fill it out to eliminate any wasted time reading it.” she said, going over to the cabinet to look at which other pokemon they had that could be presented. On the forms Zhee would see a series of questions ranging from her name*, age, contact information, current or most recent occupation*, hometown*, experience with pokemon*, where those pokemon could be found now*, favorite types or species*, why are those your favorite*, least favorite type*, why*. They couldn’t always guarantee people would get their favorites but if they were available and the reasons weren’t off the wall like “i want to breed a hundred and make a million specks” or “i think their final form is sexy as hell” then there was usually no harm in presenting favorites or the inverse, preventing triggering instances for the trainer and trauma for the innocent pokemon if a least favorite came out. For instance, someone who had been attacked by a rogue charmander may be averse to fire or at least that species itself. So it was good to avoid the potential of those unfortunate events whenever possible so as not to ruin what should have been a happy occasion. < Your favorite type is grass, right? > the Bulbasaur said with a little wink, knowing that was one of the questions and preempting her answer before she’d so much as put pen to paper for her name. ✿ Junier of WW [newclass=.bbb-icon]margin: 0px; border: 10px solid #ffffff; width: 100px; height: 100px; -webkit-border-radius: 100%; -moz-border-radius: 100%;[/newclass] [newclass=.bbb-icon img] width: 100px; height: 100px; -webkit-border-radius: 100%; -moz-border-radius: 100%;[/newclass] [newclass=.bbb-txt] width: 200px; padding: 10px; margin-top: 40px; margin-bottom: 40px; color: #888; font-family: calibri; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass]

Calm, cool, confident as she sauntered it, though it only lasted a moment. "Woah!" the blonde exclaimed as an excited Bulbasaur came running toward her, laughing as though he was being chased. It threw her off-guard but she flashed a smile as the situation became clear. Whomever was playing chase with the Pokemon disappeared in a flash of red before Zhee could see, and the fun-killer appeared, another Pokeball at the ready. As the short and stout lab attendant composed themselves Zhee greeted the Bulbasaur. "Troublemaker, are we?" She whispered and smirked as the staff member came around the counter, muttering something about presentation time as they scooped up the grass-type and held him under one arm.
Zhee gave them a small smile. A happy to be here but not so excited that you seem uncool smile. The young woman looked over the attendant... <"Male or female...?"> Zhee thought. Haircut was no help. Not much of a chest, but wouldn't men that size have kind of a chest? Those eyesbrows certainly were not feminine.. They extended their hand as they welcomed her and introduced themselves as Tate. <"Tate? Seriously? That's no help!"> Zhee thought as she reached for Tate's hand and gave it a nice, firm shake. Thin hand frame, no Adam's apple. Female.
Confident with her analysis Zhee introduced herself. "Nice to meet you, Tate. My name is Zhee." She said simply, releasing Tate's hand. The assistant moved to behind the counter where she set the Bulbasaur down and busied herself getting together the proper paperwork. Zhee held back the urge to gush all over the adorable Seed Pokemon. She had never truly been around Pokemon at play, because whenever they did her grandmother would yell at them, thinking they would run into or hurt Zhee. So it was refreshing to see such a playful and happy Pokemon.
Zhee was handed forms and a pen to fill out, all while Tate explained that she was to answer certain marked questions verbally to expedite the process. Simple enough. Zhee would begin by reading over the whole document, or at least skimming it to get a feel for the questions. As she did so, the Bulbasaur next to her spoke up. A playful remark followed by a little wink. She felt her chest swell with happiness as if she was falling in love. "Actually... it's poison" She whispered, moving her hand to the side of her mouth as if it was a secret and returned his playful wink before returning to the paperwork before her.
"Name is Zhee Darvy." She spoke aloud as she wrote it in, also hoping that her last name wouldn't be recognized. It probably had little meaning in this region but the business empire of her parents had deep roots. She lightly clicked her tongue as she filled in a few that did not require her to speak. "Occupation.. student." She paused at the next one. Experience with Pokemon. "Experience... I guess educational sparring. Is that ok?" Zhee asked Tate.
"With teachers.." She trailed off as she answered the next question. "Favorite types are Poison, Dark, and Bug." She said, throwing the Bulbasaur a smirk. "Why is because they are fierce, gorgeous, powerful, and misunderstood." Zhee paused once more at the last two questions on the forum. "I don't have a least favorite because I think all Pokemon are perfect." Zhee said as she wrote along the line. Zhee signed the bottom and flipped the clipboard around, holding out it and the pen to Tate. "Finished." She said with a small smile.

[newclass=.juni-rs]position:relative;background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.38);padding:5px;top:41px;margin-left:0px;font-family:montserrat;font-weight:bold;letter-spacing:1px;color:#FFFFFF;text-align:center;font-size:12px;text-transform:uppercase;text-shadow:-2px 1px #E854D6;[/newclass] [attr="class","bbb-icon"] [attr="class","bbb-txt"] Tate hadn’t noticed the odd way Zhee seemed to be examining her right down to whether the chubby second chin she had was hiding an adam’s apple. As far as she knew she’d never been mistaken for a man but there was a first time for everything. And people were wearing whatever they wanted these days, they were so liberated, she likely wouldn’t have been offended if she confused someone. But still even then the thought never crossed her mind that that’s why she was being scrutinized so closely. Tate had to try to fight back a yawn, wishing she’d opted for that second cup of coffee, listening as politely as she could with her mouth thrown open in what’s socially perceived as an act of boredom but really it’s just that your brain needs to cool down and wants a big gust of air to do it so it’s like hEY DUMMY BREATHE IN REALLY BIG PLS. But try telling that to anyone and they’ll just yawn right back at you out of genuine boredom. ”What did you or do you study as a student? What career prospects do you have from here on?” she followed up, ”Educational experience is better than none at all, it’s leaps and bounds beyond what we may typically get. That’s just us wondering how much extra advice to give and make sure someone isn’t getting in over their head or that they don’t already have a whole team at the ready and are just trying to weasel a starter out of us.” she told her in regard to the experience question. She was a bit taken aback by the final answers. Not out of horror or revulsion as one may expect but respect. She was right - those types did have a bad rap. She didn’t think she’d ever had anyone request those kinds. Dark..maybe once. She’d offered them a Sneasel and they’d gone with something else. Maybe...hm.. She plucked up a couple more pokeballs, walking back over to the counter to release them directly onto it lined up beside of the Bulbasaur. First popped out a Sneasel who waved eagerly up at her, followed by a sleepy little Cutiefly who couldn’t be bothered to so much as open his eyes, let alone give any sort of greeting. Bulbasaur sighed and flicked a vine out to nudge him awake, < Dude, get up! We’ve got a trainer! > he gave him another gentle nudge and the little puffball bug finally roused himself to look bleerily up at Zhee, < Sorry, I’m just...exhausted. I was up late last night and into the morning battling. > Tate cleared her throat, ”Not battling-battling. He plays a tabletop game so his dark elf knight was battling...he was eating gobs of cheese and calling commands.” she didn’t want the trainer to think they were pushing their pokemon beyond their limits drilling them at all hours to train. They never got above level five here, that just wasn’t something they did. Sneasel chuckled, < Boys. > she said matter-of-factly, rolling her eyes and having a seat on the counter and getting comfy, < So did you ask for us or is Tater Tot just trolling you, hm? > she asked bluntly, still smiling but her eyes showed a jaded biting bitterness behind her words. Bulbasaur chortled when Tate’s face flushed and waved his little vines around, < She asked for poison, bug, and dark. We all fit the bill in one way or another. Three dual types. So that means you should just go on personality which...I mean...I’ve got that in spaaades! > he informed her in case she didn’t know what their types were. < Yeah, you know what else you’ve got in spades? Stupidity. > Sneasel said, the smile still in place. Bulbasaur didn’t act like it fazed him, however, just laughing again < You’ve got me there, Ice Queen! > Cutiefly it seemed had dozed off again. ✿ Junier of WW [newclass=.bbb-icon]margin: 0px; border: 10px solid #ffffff; width: 100px; height: 100px; -webkit-border-radius: 100%; -moz-border-radius: 100%;[/newclass] [newclass=.bbb-icon img] width: 100px; height: 100px; -webkit-border-radius: 100%; -moz-border-radius: 100%;[/newclass] [newclass=.bbb-txt] width: 200px; padding: 10px; margin-top: 40px; margin-bottom: 40px; color: #888; font-family: calibri; font-size: 10px; text-align: justify; [/newclass]

Tate did not seem to notice Zhee observing her, which wasn't surprising since Zhee didn't want her to know. These manipulation tactics were perfected by years of observing her mother and copying her. It worked for the most part, but then again there weren't many people that Zhee was interested in manipulating in the first place. However, this Tate person would have her contact information and was in charge of presenting Pokemon to her. If Zhee had given her a bad attitude Tate would possibly be more inclined to show her undesirable Pokemon. This was an important impression to make, but not one to slather with compliments.
The lab attendant's yawn did not escape Zhee's attention. Zhee clenched her jaw, and her eye twitched ever so slightly. Oh, sorry, was she so absolutely boring that she was putting her to sleep? Tate hadn't even tried to cover her gaping pie hole, of which she was sure many pies had been sacrificed to that pit of a stomach. Zhee returned her gaze to the form she was filling out and get go of her anger, blinking a few times to get rid of that tiny twitch in her eye. <"Just get through this. Get your Pokemon and you'll never have to see this lard beast ever again."> She thought as she continued on the paperwork.
Zhee shrugged when Tate asked what she studied. "Lots of different things, but I guess it all just boils down to being a Trainer. I don't have interest or experience in much else." She spoke truthfully. It wasn't as if she went to an academy and studied a certain branch of Pokemon career, it was all private tutoring behind her grandmother's back. Zhee nodded several times as Tate explained at length an answer to a simple question. Zhee felt herself becoming annoyed again, but she reached the end of the form and Tate turned to reach for two more Pokeballs.
Her annoyance was replaced with excitement again, she could feel it swell in her chest as two flashes of light revealed a Sneasel and a Cutiefly. The weasel waved a clawed paw at her while the Cutiefly fell asleep floating there. Zhee could barely contain herself. A warm smile graced her sharp features as she watched them interact. Bulbasaur poked the sleepy bug, who apologized to her saying that he had had a late night. Tate cleared her throat and explained that he was playing a tabletop game, to which Zhee nodded, not actually understanding anything about night elves or whatever...
Either way, the Sneasel commanded her attention. Her snide remark and the way she aloofly made herself comfortable on the table. Zhee was already smitten. When the Sneasel called the attendant Tater Tot, the blonde lost her composure and let out a hearty chuckle. She should have apologized to Tate for laughing but it slipped her mind as she continued just observing the interaction. Bulbasaur explained why Tate had pulled them all out before Zhee had a chance, which was fine, she was perfectly content to just watch everything unfold. The Dark-type insulted Bulbasaur, who just laughed it off but by that time Zhee had already made her decision.
She approached the Sneasel directly and smiled warmly, offering her hand to her palm side up. "May I?" Zhee asked, wanting to see one of her clawed paws. Whether she gave her her paw or not, Zhee continued. "I wonder.. Would you like to go to a spa together and get a manicure with me?" She felt the need to spoil this wonderful, beautiful creature. Zhee could kind of feel the pain in her eyes, as if she had been rejected before. Not only was she a Dark/Ice type, but being female meant that she had a smaller, less popular feather. In her heart Zhee felt she was perfect.
"Bulbasaur, I'm sure you'll win over a great trainer with your playful personality. Cutiefly... good luck on you game thing, and get some sleep." She addressed the two others, appreciating their time and efforts. "Tate, I will be taking this lovely Sneasel. You've picked wonderfully. This job suits you." She did genuinely feel grateful to Tate for bringing her very first Pokemon to her. (708 words) (fitz ♥) (sorry for all the rambling!)

Sneaselfemale - lvl 05 - keen eye scratch - leer - taunt Sneasel can be pretty shallow and high-maintenance, spending much too long filing her claws or stroking her feather to be smooth as can be. You'll often catch her looking at her reflection, admiring it and commenting on how sad it is that so many pokemon and people can't be as pretty as she is. She's also known to be incredibly catty and won't hesitate to tear someone down with a smile on her face. Passive-aggression is her weapon of choice, back-handed compliments are her specialty. It's the kind of mean that you don't realize you should be offended by until she's already walked away. She doesn't discriminate with her meanness either. Whether you're a guy or girl, friend or foe, she's the quintessential "Mean Girl" and will probably make you feel bad about yourself at least once in your time together. And way more than that for the easier targets.
