[attr="class","rostercat2"]The best way to describe Sam? He is an honest, open-minded, pessimistic, dork. How can you be open-minded and pessimistic? Sam has mastered it. He's open to new ideas, loves meeting new people, but he doesn't usually expect anything from anybody to avoid being disappointed. Sam's the type of guy who very sheepishly wanders around and tries not to step on people's toes while getting work done. He's loyal and helpful and a great guy. He'll extend his heart out to anybody who deserves it. He's not naive, and really sort of a massive pessimist. He likes to call himself a realist but everything usually ends up with a negative outcome in his mind. He's paranoid and constantly planning for the worst so that he's not surprised when he gets let down. Intelligent and creative to boot, Sam's battling skills are equivalent to his skills as a researcher- although he tries not to flaunt his knowledge unless asked to avoid embarrassment; he gets flustered easily, bless. He has an eidetic memory that keeps him on his toes but this is typically evened out by the fact that the universe hates him and he's constantly running into terrible situations due to his own terrible luck. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]PERSONALITY | [attr="class","rostercat2"]Sam grew up with his mother, Elise, over in Lumiose City in the Kalos region. This urban metropolis served as his playground. Elise was abandon by her family after getting together with Sam's father, Darius, because of his local connection with a gang. However, Darius didn't stick around long. Instead, he left Elise when he found out she was pregnant. His excuse was telling her he didn't want that sort of drama to weigh down his commitment to his gang. After Darius left, Elise had to drop out of school to take care of Sam. At first it was waitressing at a night club, which slowly stemmed into a 'promotion' into becoming a dancer for the club, which slowly stemmed into getting more money for being a good 'entertainment' for those there. Though she wasn't living her dream life, she was proud to be Sam's mother and the club usually blessed her with hours that allowed her to be there for him when she needed to be. As Sam grew, so did Elise's hours. She was working more and more to pay for Sam's way through every good school that Lumiose City had to offer. She didn't mind working hard to support Sam's dream of becoming a Pokemon Professor. Even though the book work that came with school came very easy to Sam because of his eidetic memory and overall brilliance, he was not a stranger to being bullied. When he was younger it didn't much matter but as he got older, and rumors started getting worse, his mother's occupation was well known. Mostly from children overhearing their parents talk about her. This lead to a lot of bullying, but Sam took it in stride. Often times he provoked it, to protect his mother's honor, even though the second he got home she scolded him and told him that future-Professors don't punch people, they outsmart them instead. The bond he shared with his mother was solid and unwavering. To Sam, his mother was his best friend and the one person in his life he could truly depend on. Even after becoming the right age to be an assistant researcher, Sam stayed in school to 'further his education.' He did happen to further his education and get more credits on his resume, but he also took on shifts at local cafes to help in paying for his way through his schooling and their housing so his mother didn't have to work so much. When Sam was fifteen Elise fell ill and for months with no improvements. Sam finally convinced her to go to the hospital where she was told she had gotten a rare, and deadly, blood disease. For three long years Sam and Elise struggled through medical bills and trying their hardest to make it through the rough time. The blood disease escalated to it's peak when Sam was sixteen years old and Elise passed away. Although he missed her terribly, Sam had no regrets, because his mother had no regrets. She passed peacefully and happily in her sleep. She did, however, tell him to chase his dream once her battle was over - one way or the other. She encouraged him to become whatever he wanted, be that the champion, a coordinator, a breeder, or a Pokemon Professor; to live his life to the fullest he could. For two years he spent time as an assistant to a professor in the Kalos region. It was a professor that often theorized about whacky things that didn't make sense. From space travel to time travel to Pokemon mutation pros and cons. Sam was encouraged and inspired by him immediately. When a call came through from an old friend to the professor, Sam was assigned to go to the Inset region and gather information on random phenomenons in the area. Oddly excited for the new journey ahead, Sam left Kalos and made his way to Inset. He'd never had a Pokemon team of his own before, because he usually just borrowed the Professor's spare Pokemon. Though he begged to just take one of the Professor's spare Pokemon, the Professor suggested that perhaps it would be better for Sam to go to the region and get a starter Pokemon himself.
