[attr="class","rostercat2"]Kids with depression aren't always the art students all dressed in black in the back corner of their classroom. They aren't always the ones scribbling dark love poems on their notebooks and drawing x's in the eyes of textbooks. Sometimes the kids with depression are the ones sitting almost in the middle of the class with a big smile and their feet up on the desks because they think its cool. They're still an art student but none of that doom and gloom sort of stuff because honestly it kind of scares them. Sometimes the kid with depression is Morick Reyes. He's good at putting up a front for it though. Since he was never one of the doom and gloom kids he wasn't sure how else to cope through school with his depression. He tried talking to his parents about it and got the 'everyone gets sad you're not special' speech from them and so that's all he thought it was. Therefore he learned to cover it up well. Smile wide, laugh louder and be obnoxiously friendly to the point of people thinking he was just this giant class clown. So he rolled with it. He likes being friendly to people and thinks that it helps to make the world a little better place if you try. Morick loves to draw. He loves drawing he loves painting and he even plays with pastels and charcoal if he can get his hands on them. Not to say he's good at every art medium but he at least tries. He couldn't sculpt to save his life when he tried it after all. He gets so much joy from drawing though and putting things down on paper and canvas. It doesn't exactly cure his depression but it is a nice reprieve from it. Bright colors on a pallet and then put down in front of him however he wants gives him a sense of control he lacks while dealing with his parents. He knows that they're constantly disappointed with him but he tries not to think about it. Morick enjoys spending time with his friends and more often than not tries to dodge out of other responsibilities in order to spend time with them. He's extremely loyal to his friends and would do anything he could for them. If they asked him to jump off of a bridge he wouldn't even question it to be honest. He's also extremely protective of his friends and even strangers if they need his help. He's got a zero tolerance policy for bullies and won't hesitate to jump in if he thinks that its necessary. After all its more important to make sure that people are safe and happy and maybe have a small misunderstanding than letting someone get bullied because you didn't speak up. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]PERSONALITY | [attr="class","rostercat2"]Despite most of the kids in his class having upwards two or three siblings a piece Morick is a lonely only child. Well, not exactly lonely since he took to making friends even at a young age like a fish takes to water. He was the kid that had the cool looking juice boxes an the extra fruit roll up in his lunchbox. Of course no matter how much anyone else begged the extra fruit roll up always went to Calla. Sometimes Calla would split it with Kenzi but most of the time he got to sit back and watch as his best friend ended up getting to enjoy an extra snack. After all they were the very best of friends and that's what friends did. They shared and cared. They had fake wedding ceremonies that were officiated by their other best friend and held hands on the playground. As they got older some friends even fell in love with their other friend. But that doesn't come until later. First comes the awkward love notes from girls in your class that he felt obligated to "date" on the playground because his dad said that he was "such a lady killer" all the time. It wasn't until later that he learned it didn't mean he was actually killing them or something. But that he was supposed to be good at dating them. Or something like that. And Morick liked doing things that he was good at so why not? It wasn't like there were a lot of other options or anything. Either date the girls now or date the girls later what was the difference when your parents wanted lots of grand kids and only one son to give them to them? He felt obligated to at least give it a try. Holding hands at the movies with Elizabeth Marks was awkward and weird. Sure everyone told him that first dates were like that but this felt like it was to the extreme. As he began to grow and develop other things started happening as well. He had trouble focusing at school and his moods started to dip lower and lower. His parent's at first blamed it on hormones and then that he was just looking for attention. When in reality he was starting to suffer from the beginning stages of a developing problem with depression. He tried asking for help from his parents and when that didn't work he asked for help from the school nurse. Who redirected him to his school counselor. Who called his parents and when they had a giant meeting between them it was determined for him that it was just looking for attention due to failing grades and that "everyone got sad sometimes." It was supposedly nothing for him to worry about and he would apparently grow out of it. He found a better support system from his friends than he did his family. Especially his friend Calla who at the time was his best of best friends. But only if you didn't tell Artimis that. Calla helped him work out some of his feelings about depression and validated that he wasn't just looking for attention. Not that either of them could do much about it together just being kids but it was relieving to know that someone believed what he was saying. Calla was one of his biggest inspirations in art and just knowing that he understood him made even more feelings blossom in his heart. Ones that he definitely didn't understand and absolutely could not share with his family. He was in love. And not with someone he could give his parents grandkids with. Not knowing how Calla felt and not wanting to face rejection he kept those feelings deep inside, knowing that it was better to be Calla's friend than risk making him uncomfortable and ruining the friendship they had built together. Even when Calla came out of the closet Morick knew that he probably wasn't his type. But he knew that he had to defend his friend no matter what the cost. He got into a few more fights than necessary and developed a bit of a reputation as someone who punched first and asked questions later when it came to bullies. He liked the reputation. It made him feel like he could help keep people safe. With Calla's help he decided what he wanted to do with his life. His parents wanted him to get a business degree and he wanted to go to art school. So of course he stood up to them for the first time in his life in order to get what he wanted. The only thing he'd ever wanted more in his life was to be with Calla and when he heard that Calla had a dream to pursue it made him even more determined. Maybe, just maybe, if they both achieved their dreams they would be able to make it together. But there wasn't ever enough time for the two of them to actually hang out that much once Calla went to college and he was in art school. So when he got the call that Calla was moving on to do field research he figured it was a good a time as any to move forward with his plans. He needed to travel to finish his degree. See things he had never seen before to inspire him. If Calla was going to go so far away to accomplish his goals then he would just have to follow him all the way to Inset. He didn't tell Calla about his plan and just figures he'll surprise him on the way. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]HISTORY |
