Akina was dropped off in Cassiopeia village after attaining her starter at the ranger outpost. She wandered around the village noting the sights. If she had gone to the Lab for a starter she would have been in this village a lot sooner. She squinted up at the sun blazing above her. It was quite a change from the dark cave she had captured her first pokemon. The kabuto would no doubt be a handful in the future, though no more than her siblings were. There was at least only one of him. Well…until she caught more pokemon of course.
She made her way to the outskirts of town were a grove of trees grew. Since he had spent most of his life in a cave she wasn’t sure if the kabuto could handle so much sunlight. Akina settled down at the foot of a tree and let out her starter pokemon. The peaceful day was shattered by the kabuto’s words as he emerged from the red beam of the pokeball. <About time you let me out of there! When you said we would be starting an adventure together I didn’t think you would keep me shut in that stupid ball the whole dang time!> She rolled her eyes at his over dramatic words. ”You’re fine, you weren’t in there long. They had to send me back to the village before route 1. Everyone starts out here.”
The kabuto eyed the world around him through the eyes on the top of his shell. <This place doesn’t look all that special. Lets just get out of this lame place and start on that adventure you wanted to do so bad.> Akina patted the place right next to her. ”Hold on just a bit. There is something we need to take care of first. The kabuto raised himself so he could look at her with the eyes on his underside. < And why should I? Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t go off to have my own adventure while you laze around?>
The appearance of a strange little rectangle drew his curiosity. Thankfully there was no way to tell his expression with how dark his underside was. <What’s so special about that weird little thing?> Akina wiggled her phone at the kabuto with a smile on her face. ”This ‘weird little thing’ is going to help us find a name to call you. I’m sure such a magnificent pokemon such as yourself would like a name to set you apart from the average kabuto. The kabuto swelled with pride and interest at her words. <Well why didn’t you say so in the first place! I need a name just as awesome and amazing as I am.> She rolled her eyes as he scuttled his way to her side.
She held her phone down so he was able to see the screen as well. They spent a good while looking through different names. Every name he seemed to show interest in was immediately discarded when the meaning didn’t fit his standards. It wasn’t until they started looking for specific meanings that he found one he liked. The kabuto tapped on the screen to point out the name that caught his eye <That one! It’s perfect!> Akina pushed his claw away so she could see the name made him so excited. …Kane? The kabuto was practically bursting but did his best to contain himself. <I am the most fierce fighter ever so of course I need a warrior’s name. It fits me just right.> Akina shook her head at his boastful words. He had yet to show the fighting prowess he spoke so highly of. She had begun to doubt he had ever been in a fight before. ”Then Kane it is. Hey, where are you going?” The kabuto had made a break for the other side of the grove, though with his little claws he hadn’t gotten terribly far. <Where does it look like I’m going? Now that that is out of the way it is time to find test my awesome skills against!>
