[attr="class","rostercat2"] + Passionate | Adventurous | Practical | Creative - Asocial | Grumpy | Proud | Workaholic Ronnie is the sort of woman that, if she should be asked by a passing stranger she should smile (for that would make her prettier), she would respond with an even deeper grimace than before. Incorrigibly serious and a bit of a grouch, she has little time for shenanigans and even less for people in general - which may explain why, in some ways, she seems a bit... apart, from the rest of society. This doesn’t trouble her overmuch - less jeering and idle chatter means more time spent on her research, which means she may one day be able to present something of merit for her years of study. And therein lies her weak point. While proud to a fault and endlessly passionate about her studies, a recent string of failures has made her somewhat self conscious of her own work. While accustomed to mockery, she by no means enjoys it, and working with a short fuse and little inclination towards sass means one falls quickly to yelling and arguing in circles. Cut out the middle man and avoid people all together, and you have little need to worry about such things. For all her bluster, however, Ronnie isn’t one for violence - or, at least Pokemon-based violence, at the very least. She dislikes battle, she dislikes coordinating, she dislikes breeding, and frankly, just thinks things would be better if everyone just left the damn Pokemon be already. She does not impress easily with common things of this world, finding even her fellow researchers unoriginal with their subject matter - rather, she takes more interest in uncommon things beyond it. Ultra Beasts, for instance, pique her interest; strange creatures that by no means should logically exist within this plane even moreso. Still, if one can worm past her general disinterest for people, she can be an attentive (if somewhat brutally honest) listener. And so, it was only to be expected that the child of two of the scientists working on Cinnabar Island had a daughter that constantly came home with her elbows scraped, her shoes wet, and her fingers covered with cuts or burns. A rambunctious child, Ronnie wanted to do everything, explore everywhere, and fight absolutely everyone. And, alongside a Koffing she had befriended after pestering it often enough in the mansion, she had spent much of her youth doing just that. But something changed one day by the shoreline. Ronnie had been 9, on the cusp of a journey, when she had encountered a boy not much older on the eastern shoreline. As she would tell it, he, atop a Lapras, had gone up and down the shoreline’s shallows, not a word exchanged between the two until a formless creature of blue and red arose from the shallows. The pair had defeated it - or caused it to disappear, at least - and when he had opened his bag, an endless stream of rare candies had fallen out. Having noticed her watching, he had smiled and handed her one before releasing a Fearow and flying away upon it. When she and her Koffing friend had tried to repeat what he had done, walking up and down the shallows until well past dusk, however, nothing had happened. Nobody had believed her, in spite of the presence of the candy. A week later, the boy had come again. He repeated the process, and the formless creature came again - only this time, he had captured it. He checked his bag once again - this time, an abundance of a purple Pokeball marked ‘M’ had fallen out. This time, she had mustered the courage to ask him what he was doing. He did not - or perhaps, could not speak, but his hand gestures were lost upon her. It had turned into a game of charades, ultimately - he had expressed there was an old man in Viridian that had allowed him to keep doing this, but refused to take her across the sea to see him. Once he had imparted this wisdom, had smiled as he had done once before, handed her the ball of the shapeless creature he had captured, and flew away again. He never again, in Ronnie’s memory, returned to Cinnabar Island. Behind him, he left a child who had just turned 10 with a creature that had no name and a puzzle far grander to the electrical doors of the Pokemon Mansion. Determined to find answers, she had tried to raise the creature of the shallows, only for it to immediately become hostile immediately upon release. It struck her Koffing, dealing him a serious injury beyond mere fainting, but rather than continuing its assault to include her as well, the creature had... evolved. The Kangaskahn the creature had become was, in an odd twist for a maternal Pokemon, completely sterile and had no memory of being what it was. Finding only more questions where there should have been answers, Ronnie had decided that the only way she would figure anything here out was to go to Viridian and find the boy from the eastern shallows again. Her mind made up, she had left Koffing’s care to the nurses at the Pokemon Center and stowed away on a ship to the mainland with Kangaskahn before her parents became aware of the full breadth of the situation. This marked the start of a lifelong journey hunting the unexplained mysteries of the world... and, for most of her teen years, a life of hiding after her parents put out a missing persons report on her. It was a good decade before Ronnie had bothered to correct this; being invisible in society had meant she could conduct her research into these unknowns privately. She never did find the boy again, but she had discovered other things - eggs that never hatched, living skeletons of ancient Pokemon, perfect clones made in a place for trading Pokemon. She went back to school with the intent of presenting her findings and just letting accolades fall into her lap-- ...only to be laughed out of academia. Some questioned her sanity; others thought her to be a compulsive liar. The disdain her life’s work was treated with was enough to make her withdraw from people completely - just as she had on the night Big Mama had gained form, Ronnie packed her things and disappeared into the night once again. A fitting end for a woman of mystery, most supposed. No one bothered to look for her this time - she clearly had a Pokemon with her, and as an adult, it was her business if she did not wish to be found. And so, Ronnie once again took to traveling alone for two years. During that time, she crossed over into the region of Inset - in part to lick the wounds to her pride, and in part to see what mysteries this new region had to offer.
