All things considered, the intelligent thing for Joshua to do was go to the Cassiopeia Lab. But Joshua did not always do the intelligent thing. Perhaps he was homesick; he never did feel particularly at ease within sterilized walls. Others were always surprised that Joshua truly preferred the outdoors over being cooped up indoors. He was still unable to deduce what it was about him that gave off such a homebody demeanor.
The trip through Elara Town on the way to the Ranger Station made the entire journey worth the travel. Although Cherrygrove City was not located at the base of a mountain, the sheer amount of greenery in Elara Town was a welcome sight for sore eyes. In fact, it was such a welcome sight that Joshua nearly forgot why he was passing through Elara Town to begin with. Although he knew understood the basics of raising Pokemon through his studies, he had yet to truly nurture one with his own hands.
Better late than never, he supposed.
He paused outside the Ranger Outpost. It wasn't too late to turn back. He could turn back and head to the Cassiopeia Lab. But that wasn't why he'd come to the Inset Region. The point of being here was to do things differently, before he was too old to retrace footsteps and try again.
Joshua inhaled, and in his haste to enter before he changed his mind, he nearly marched straight into the automatic sliding doors of the Rangers' building.
He dug a hand into his cross-body bag, fishing about for the official documents licensing him as a proper Inset researcher. Once the documents emerged from the void, Joshua set to rifling through them all to ensure he wasn't missing anything important. "Photo ID, signed terms and conditions form, completed background check... Well, that should be everything... and if not, good enough, right...?"
He spread them out across the empty front desk. Surely, whoever was on duty wouldn't mind him borrowing it to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything? In fact, Joshua was so engrossed in fretting over being potentially unprepared that he was wholly oblivious to any other presences nearby.
