| in the city of fools, I was careful and cool. but they tore me apart like a hurricane. |
He'd never been one for formalities. So the obvious choice for him had been to dive into going to the Ranger Station rather than the lab. The idea of sitting under neon lights while observing and being observed by his potential partner unnerved him to no end. So instead he had gone for what he knew. The Ranger Station was supposedly not that different from the actual wilds. Just, somehow indoors instead. He'd heard rumors about Rangers from his father and uncle. Distant relatives were Rangers here or there. He hadn't really been too concerned with it. Not when there were so many other things to be concerned with and to do. Pushing his hair back he fixed his ponytail. He'd been referred here by the head of his squad. This was supposed to be the best place for him to be right now. Inset. What kind of place was it? Other than what he'd seen from his plane and then from the train and then finally to the jeep that brought him here what would this place hold for him?
It was hard to think that hours ago he was at the first response station waiting for it to be time to leave. But now there was nothing left for him to do except actually take the plunge. Tired eyes stared at the door for a moment longer before he pushed it open, holding the folder with his paperwork and credentials inside. He wasn't here to become a Ranger but having everything finished was something important to do. His footsteps echoed slightly as he walked over to the front desk. Back straight and eyes forward. He wouldn't have to be this rigid after all of this was over. Once he was on the road he could relax. Carefully he set the envelope full of paperwork on the desk, hoping that this was the right place to put it. @someone --- Nyello give me a starter pls! [googlefont=Open+Sans]

--- Ben was busy at the coffee machine in the break room when Rishi came in. He was oblivious to what was going on, trying to add the perfect amount of sugar and creamer to his cup to cut out the nasty taste of the coffee. If Kie were here he would probably tease him for having a little coffee with his creamer but Ben didn't care. He wouldn't be embarrassed. He just needed a little kick to help him get through the day was all. Meanwhile, when Rishi placed his folder on the table, Princess swiveled the desk chair around like a super villain to face the man. The Stunky snuffled and stared at him, daring him to question her, before she pulled the folder closer with a paw and flipped it open with her snout. She messed up the papers to get a good look at them, pleased with what she found. Hopping down, she trotted over to the elevator and shot out a mud ball to hit the button. The elevator opened and she trotted inside to sit, clearly waiting on Rishi to join her. MADE BY VEL OF GS

He wasn't going to question it. He didn't have the energy to question it. If this Pokemon was a ranger then he would just flow with it. After all there was no saying that she wasn't. Who the hell knew how they did things in Inset anyways. If they wanted to have a bunch of Pokemon running things then who was he to question it? No one that's who. But he waited for the Stunky to finish sorting things out. At least he figured that was what she was doing by looking through all of the papers like that. He couldn't really tell. After all how many Pokemon could read? It wasn't something he'd ever really thought of or questioned really. He dealt with saving lives not Pokemon education after all. "Alright..."
He seemed to be approved and good to go. But he would just have to follow the little skunk Pokemon and see what was going on. "I could have pressed that..." But instead she seemed to be pretty capable. For what it was worth she did well enough on her own. She was an independent Pokemon it seemed. The elevator opened and as she walked in he guessed he was supposed to follow. This was going to be a trip he guessed. He walked into the elevator, glancing around some so that he could see what was going on. The technology here was ridiculously advanced and the amount of good it could do elsewhere was huge... @someone --- Nyello give me a starter pls! [googlefont=Open+Sans]

--- Princess sniffed again and nodded in approval when Rishi got on the elevator. < Take a pokeball. > She spoke, clearly but suddenly, and jerked her head in the direction of a dispenser on the wall. She then shot another mud ball at a button on the elevator, missing once and grunting in frustration before hitting it. The elevator closed and lurched to the side, taking them upward and sideways at the same time at an angle. Princess didn't look bothered by this strange way of motion. < I'll protect you. > She spoke again, when the elevator stopped. It opened to a beach, wide and full of clean white sand, a few shells scattered about. A perfect sea biome that made it look like they were on the edge of a deserted island. Princess hopped off, her feet sinking in the sand causing her to shake them and lift her legs high when she walked. A little ways away, a Tirtouga was busy chomping on a handful of Tamato berries that he had found growing on a bush nearby. He didn't seem to mind the new arrivals, a few scars down his shell and one over his face. He was too old to be worried about much. < There's your Starter. Go make friends. Be nice or I'll bite you. > Princess sat down on piece of driftwood, away from the sand for now and close enough to watch. She busied herself with cleaning her paw pads. Rishi was on his own for now. | It seemed as though the Stunky was determined to do things herself. Something that he could sort of understand. She was the pro here after all and he wasn't going to tell her otherwise. He was here to get in and get out after getting himself a partner Pokemon. Leaning against the wall some he glanced around when she said something about a Pokeball. It took him a minute but he finally found where she was aiming for him to look. It felt weird having a Pokeball in his hands. He'd never really done much with Pokemon beyond the ones involved in the search and rescue crews. He couldn't help but wonder if he was going to manage to get a Pokemon that would be able to keep up with that. He wanted to be able to keep up with his work and he hoped for a Pokemon that would want to do the same.
"Whoah..." He was startled whenever the elevator began to move though the direction was hard for him to distinguish. Normally he wasn't so bad with knowing which direction he was headed but this was sort of disorienting. He was glad whenever the wild ride ended up stopping. He wasn't sure where they were and what sort of place he would be stepping out into. But he knew the basics. That there were many biomes or whatever that would have lots of Pokemon in them. Whatever Pokemon he found first would end up being his starter Pokemon. But he stepped out finally when she indicated for him to... Onto a beach? A whole fucking beach... Jesus... What sort of facilities did they have here anyways? "I guess, the tirtouga is my starter?" It was the first Pokemon he saw after all.
At least he didn't have to go swimming. He wasn't particularly fond of that sort of thing and trying to capture a Pokemon in the water didn't sound like too much fun either. She wanted him to be nice... She hadn't even known him for very long and she already pretty much had him pegged. Carefully he stepped through the sand so that he wouldn't end up kicking too much of it up. Or falling. That would be a pain and not to mention embarrassing. Carefully he leaned down next to the turtle. "My name is Rishi." He wasn't sure what else to do. | | | | | BY EDWARD OF GS |

--- The Tirtouga hummed when the human approached him, used to such things by now. They had been so worried and handsy when he first came in. It was silly to fret over an old man like him. He would have been okay. He thought he was made of tougher stuff than they let on. But that wasn't here or there. After taking his time chewing his food and swallowing, Tirtouga turned and blinked up at the man before him. < Nice to meet you, Rishi. > He hummed. < Is it time for my check up? > The humans hadn't done one of those in a long time but he couldn't imagine they would be there for anything else. Out of habit he started to lift his flippers up, stretching out like they liked him to do. To make sure he could still move good, or something like that. His joints might have been a little stiff on the side of his scars but he could get around just fine. It was kind of sweet how they worried. < See? Still fine, still fine. > MADE BY VEL OF GS

| The turtle seemed to have the wrong idea about why Rishi was here. He wasn't a ranger here to do a medical checkup on the Tirtouga but he wasn't going to interrupt him either. The stretching was probably good for his fins whether he was here to look at them or not. And knowing the Pokemon's capabilities now was better than waiting until later and it was a dire situation. After all they weren't exactly known for their speed on land... But having a Pokemon accustomed to water would be useful for whenever that sort of thing came up. And knowing his luck eventually it would. "You've got good mobility in your flippers there. You must be really healthy." He wasn't sure how to bridge the gap from the Pokemon thinking he was just another ranger to being the person who was here to have him as a starter. But he was just going to have to get it over with. He'd gone into forest fires before he could do something like this. "I'm here to get a starter Pokemon. I was a member of a wildlife first response unit in Unova and I was sent here for training." It was one thing to deal with disasters in Unova but possible an entire different ideal to deal with them in an entirely different region. Having a broad spectrum of experiences to work with would make him better at his job all around. | | | | | BY EDWARD OF GS |

--- < Thank you kindly. Not often I get many compliments. > The Tirtouga answered to Rishi's first comment, giving a soft chuckle at his own private little joke. The Rangers here loved to dote on the pokemon and it was really sweet, honestly. The humans were so silly sometimes but most of the ones here seemed to have good intentions. < A Starter? > He had been told about that once or twice. That someone might want to take him on a journey after he had been moved to this area. That was silly. He was an old man so what good would he be to anyone? This nice young man could pick a better one out that himself, surely. Plus, he was comfortable here. < Ah, you don't want me, sonny. Not so good at battling anymore. Can't even fight a boat off. > He grumbled the last bit to himself, flipping up his slightly damaged fin and motioning to his scars. If it hadn't been for that boat he wouldn't even be here in the first place. MADE BY VEL OF GS

| Deciding that this might take a moment he went ahead and sat down on the sand. If nothing else he could always clean up later. It wouldn't be the first time he got dirty and it wouldn't be the last. Not with all the traveling he was planning on doing anyways. Plus the sand was warm and he could appreciate that. He liked the feeling of sun and surf at times even if he wasn't absolutely confident in the water. And he might as well enjoy the relaxing time that he could. Especially since who knew what would be happening on the road ahead. He listened carefully to what the water type had to say about his own affliction. Rishi was pretty sure that it didn't matter how well the Pokemon could battle whenever he didn't have much of a choice starter wise. The first Pokemon he saw was his starter regardless of the condition. "You don't have to be good at battling to be a good partner. And that's what I'm looking for. A partner, not someone I force to battle for me." He had seen first hand what happened to Pokemon forced to battle over and over again. While he was primarily wilderness response there were plenty of times that he had helped with other medical emergencies in his downtime. Pokemon battles being one of the primary concerns when people were out in the wild trying to train their Pokemon. | | | | | BY EDWARD OF GS |

--- Tirtouga tilted his head as he thought over what Rishi had said. He didn't want someone who was just for battling, did he? Just someone for good company? Well, that sounded lovely, to be honest. He couldn't go very fast on land but it might be nice to see the sights while he still could. But, if this guy was so determined, he wasn't handing himself over yet. < So, sonny, what sort of things do you like to do for fun? > Tirtouga wanted to know if he could get along with someone. Even if Rishi was nice they might just not have compatible personalities. It wasn't that he would dislike him if they did, but he knew he wouldn't be able to keep up with a more energetic youth. This was a safe place and he needed to be sure he wanted to leave it, after all. MADE BY VEL OF GS

| For some reason Rishi wasn't expecting the Tirtouga to question him. After all this was supposed to be a cut and dry thing that just happened. He didn't really like talking about himself much. It was hard to tell someone that the only interests you really had was reading about ways to help people or actually going out and doing it. It was difficult to explain to someone that you honestly just didn't know what sort of things you liked to do for fun because you never really based what you did off of having fun. But instead what was necessary to get whatever task you had ahead of you done. "I guess... I like learning? I like home remedies and stuff like that so learning about different ones has always been a passion of mine." But once again he didn't really do that for fun. It helped him with his job and that was about the only reason he was really interested in it. He became a member of the response unit in order to be able to help people. "I like napping?" That was something he did pretty frequently. But it was easy to tell that the man was having trouble actually nailing down the idea of fun. "Honestly most of what I do is based around my work..." And that was the honest truth of it. | | | | | BY EDWARD OF GS |

--- Tirtouga nodded and hummed along with interest as Rishi spoke, as little as it was. He could kind of see what kind of person this man might have been, now. Well, if Rishi was like what Tirtouga thought he might be like, he didn't think he would mind going with him at all. < It sounds like you need someone around to teach you how to relax, sonny. > Tirtouga gave a little chuckle at that and winked at the man. < I suppose.... I could help you do that. Isn't much that old folks like me are good at except relaxing, anyway. > Returning to his berries, Tirtouga wanted to at least finish them while Rishi made his choice. Would he take him with him? Or try at the lab for something else? MADE BY VEL OF GS

| Rishi let out a breath that he hadn't even been aware that he had been holding. It was nerve wracking to think that this turtle might have ended up rejecting him right off the bat. But maybe? It seemed like the Tirtouga would be willing to come with him. It was kind of hard to tell at this point though. Taking the Pokeball he had gotten from the Stunky Rishi carefully set it down on the sand. Hoping that it wouldn't fall over or whatever whenever he did. After all sand moved a lot and the last thing he needed was a mishap with the only Pokeball he had. He wasn't sure if the skunk Pokemon would be willing to give him another one if he messed this up. "Well, if you're willing to come along just tap this whenever you're ready." He didn't want to rush the Pokemon through his meal or whatever since that would be rude. He hated when people rushed him after all. With a sigh he flopped backwards onto the sand and stared up at the fake sky. He couldn't be sure that the turtle wouldn't change his mind but he wasn't going to sit and stare at him while he ate either. That was just as weird. | | | | | BY EDWARD OF GS |

--- It took the water type a few minutes to finish his meal. He was licking the leftover juice off his lips as he glanced over at Rishi, then the waiting ball on the ground. Ah, this had to have been fate in some way. Tirtouga could see a lot of his young self in this human and he didn't want him to fall into the same pitfalls that he had. Yes, he would do his best to do what he could for this guy.' With that in mind, Tirtouga waddled his way closer to the pokeball. He tapped against it with his nose and was quickly sucked inside. The ball didn't even have to shake, clicking in place to show that it was filled. male 05 sturdy bide, withdraw, water gun, rollout, iron defenseAn old fellow with a big heart, Tirtouga likes to take life slow and enjoy things as they come. He's very easy going and good natured, few things wearing on his nerves. He takes most challenges with the kind of grace and experience that only those who have been through life can show. The little things are appreciated and small nuisances don't really get to him. To him, life is a delicate thing to be enjoyed and you can't do that if you're worried all the time. Tirtouga is covered in various scars on his fins and down the back of his shell. He came to the Ranger station after a boating accident, the rotor of a speedboat scarring him after he came to the surface to meet an old friend. While the scars remain an ugly reminder of what happened, Tirtouga is just happy he survived and has no ill will towards those involved. He can still swim and get along as he did before with only occasional tightness in his skin. Tirtouga is the easy going, pacifist sort. He doesn't enjoy battling and doesn't have a flare for contests. He thinks traveling would be nice as he is curious about the world around him and likes new experiences but he also likes to take things slow and relax. If asked why he's like this, he has no reservations about detailing how he was a vigorous and energetic youth and it burned him out and caused a lot of stress. He is very honest and sees little point in hiding details about himself and how hes feeling. Tirtouga came with Rishi because he wanted to see the world but he was also worried about the man. He could recognize signs of himself from when he was younger and wants to do his best to teach and guide Rishi on how to relax and enjoy himself. Rishi also receives an Inset Map, Pokedex, TM Case, 5 Pokeballs and 2 Potions! MADE BY VEL OF GS
