[attr="class","rostercat2"]Koenn is what many people would describe as a 'white knight'. He's a calm, collected person who always goes out of his way to help people when necessary or able. Of course this often leads to people judging him, thinking he's just doing it for the 'karma', or people thinking he's doing it to impress someone. He's not, however - he just genuinely appreciates helping people. From a very young age, Koenn was inspired to be a prince, so he does everything that he thinks a prince should do, like helping people, always being kind and respectful unless the situation calls for something a little more forceful, but years of practice have allowed Koenn to almost always be in control of his tone and body language - so it rarely gets out of hand. He knows now, that he'll never be a prince - we just don't have them - but he still holds fast to that persona anyway. Koenn is a 'layperson' Buddhist, despite his issue with impermanence. Koenn clings to things that he believes or feels, rather than understading all things have their time and that sometimes you need to let go. He is seriously working on changing this, however. He also, despite being a Buddhist and working very hard on it, has material cravings. He loves to have stuff. He does believe in the cycle of samsara, rebirth and enlightenment, and strives his best to achieve a 'better' position in his 'next' life. As he describes it, it's more of a philosophy to strive for that something he's achieved right now. If Koenn has one major flaw, it's that he wants to be important. He wants to be important to someone, or everyone, or anyone around him. It isn't that he wants to be seen as somsone who is good, or just, or anything like that, he just wants to be important in some way. This doesn't mean that he wants a position of power, although he wouldn't turn it away, because to him, importance doesn't equal power. I think a better way to put it is that he wants to be respected, almost loved by the people around him. He also has a tendency to dwell on the negative - say he has a fight with someone, Koenn will replay that in his head for days on end, until time causes the wound to heal. He's a creature of habit and if Koenn could keep things the same then he would. It tends to only be major things that cause a shift in this world that make him want to change things or himself, rather than remaining a fluid person. This isn't to say he doesn't learn, or doesn't try to better himself, as he does. But things like routines, or the type of clothes that he buys, for example, he likes to keep the same. He's outgoing, very friendly, very sociable. He hasn't had much exposure to things like mental illness but does his best to read up on it and try to understand how to approach someone having an anxiety attack, etc. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]PERSONALITY | [attr="class","rostercat2"]Koenn was adopted as a baby, and has no idea where he was intially born. He didn't choose to try to find out about his birth parents, and instead considers his adopted family his 'true' family. He was raised in Cerulean, by two men, Michael and Calvin, who owned a flower shop together. He was loved and adored, even when Nathan, his brother came along - both Michael and Calvin were polyamorous, and Michael's partner fell pregnant, but decided not to raise Nathan herself. Koenn loved his brother, and helped as much as possible with raising him, and playing with him, teaching him things. This is how Koenn realised he loved kids, and also helping people. He was around Pokemon from a very young age, but mostly grass types. Calvin owned a Roselia and Michael a Bellossom, who both helped with flower arrangements and breeding - both of his fathers were bonded by their love of flowers and flower-looking Pokemon. But after watching battles on the TV, Koenn fell in love with Fire types. Michael and Calvin encouraged this, but always told him he'd not be allowed a fire-type when he stayed at the shop due to the risk. Because of this he never got a Pokemon until he was much older and about to leave for Inset. Even when he moved out, he'd become too used to not having a Pokemon, and was intitally hesitant about changing his life in such a major way. He was worried about his routine changing, and not being able to take care of the Pokemon properly. Koenn picked up his religion from school, when he took an ethics / philosophy class in his last year. They talked about the Buddhist monks of their world, of the way they thought and how they carried it out. Koenn loved the way that most of it could be seen as just being a better person, that it would hopefully help him lead a better life, as he saw it. He decided after that class to pick it up himself, and does his best to follow the philosophy. It gets hard sometimes, especially with a couple of his personality traits, but he's working on everything that he can. He struggles with certain parts of it, like the idea of impermanence. He's also a vegetarian because of thise as he doesn't want to eat something that spent it's whole life working to be it's 'better self'. He keeps a copy of a book detailing the Eightfold path in his bag at all times. From a young age, Koenn was obsessed with knights and warriors and princes and kings, and he always wanted to be one. He was the kind of kid to pretend his bike was a horse, to pretend his stick was a sword, and always bugged Michael and Calvin to buy him plastic swords, shields, stuff like that - and he managed to get Nathan to like all of those things, too. Together they'd play, always sword fighting and 'training' for the wars they'd inevitably fight in. Nathan grew up to join the police force, and Koenn, worked in shops most of his life. He helped out around the florists, of course, and eventually got a job in the Cerulean PokeMart. He was there for a good few years, before he moved to Celadon city, got a job in the department store selling Pokeballs, and met Gregg, his future boyfriend. They met when they were both out shopping, the cliche bumping into each other and spilling their groceries. Gregg and Koenn were together for four years. They lived together, loved each other and got engaged, but before they could get married Gregg was in a fatal motorcycle accident (Koenn now hates the things). This is what prompted him to look into moving to another region, as everything around him just reminded him of Gregg. Koenn settled on the Inset region to move to, and Michael and Calvin bought him a Growlithe as a gift for the move. They didn't want him to travel alone, and thought he needed a partner for the move. Koenn had done research, and was determined to become a Ranger. It was a perfect job for Koenn, he thought - he could dedicate his life to helping Pokemon and people, basically things that he's always wanted to do. So he sold his apartment, and with the money, funded some basic training with his growlithe - the Growlithe, Alcaeus, was just hatched when he was purchased, or maybe Michael had bought the egg? Koenn wasn't sure - and when he felt that he wasn't a complete novice when it came to taking care of Pokemon and battling, and even a little coordination practice, he left for Inset. So now he arrives, ready for his journey. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]HISTORY |
