pokemon . In the posts below you will find all information needed about pokemon on this site. Some of it may overlap with other sections on this site or repeat information seen elsewhere. keep in mind that pokemon here are as likely to be more intelligent than you or me or dumber than your average goldfish. pokemon live just as rich and engaging lives as humans do, and many of the smarter ones have their own aspirations and goals. just because they've been captured by a trainer doesn't mean they want to give up those dreams. the personalities gave to pokemon are very important on this site. it is up to your and your character if you want to stifle them or let them grow. - Pokemon Rarity & Catching

pokemon rarity. here on Reach, pokemon are all put into rarity categories. how rare they are determines how often you will see them on the site as well as how hard it is to catch them. legendary pokemon cannot be captured and only a lucky few may ever see them. the list is as follows: - Overpopulated
- Common
- Uncommon
- Rare
- Endangered
- Legendary
as wild pokemon are captured and bred on the site, pokemon may change rarity over time. special events may also make pokemon more or less populous and effect their catch rate. for example, eevee is an endangered pokemon. over-breeding may make it be bumped down to rare. for another example, rattata is overpopulated. a group of trainers working to thin their numbers may move them up to common or even uncommon with enough effort. as people effect the site the environment will change with it. catching. while there are a few different ways to do it (see Moderation), pokemon catching sticks to one basic principle. you rp out encountering a pokemon and then catching it. a staff member will then grade you to determine in you captured the pokemon or not. if you did, congrats! add that pokemon to your inventory and remove a pokeball. if not, that's okay! just take another crack at it until you get it. catching and rarity go hand in hand. the rarer a pokemon is, the more harsh staff will be in their judging. it takes a lot more effort to get an endangered pokemon than it does a common, so expect to really work hard and push yourself if you encounter one. however, this doesn't mean you need to be an excellent writer or rp'er to get more rare pokemon. if staff can see you're pushing yourself with your posts and really trying to grow you will be rewarded for it. on the flip side of this, being an excellent writer/rp'er does not guarantee you a rare pokemon. we want quality over quantity on this site and reward when it's achieved. you can impress us most with creativity. if you want to have a catching thread with more than one person, that's fine! These threads must be kept in a set posting order for ease of staff. pokemon will be spawned per number of people in the thread, and it is up to everyone oocly to choose who goes after what. if a fight breaks out oocly about someone wanting a certain pokemon, no one will receive the pokemon in question and this option will be removed. pokeballs. catching a pokemon requires a pokeball to be in your inventory. if you do not have a pokeball, you cannot catch. you can buy more at the various site shops if you are low. on Reach, pokeballs that you buy in the shop are a catch-all term for almost any type of ball you can find in the games. a 'pokeball' may in thread be a dive ball or a heavy ball. the way that catching is judged, this is an aesthetic change only as it does not effect the actual catch rate. ie, buying a pokeball and saying in thread it is an ultra ball is more than welcome. however, that won't improve your chances of catching anymore than saying it is a dusk ball. there are some exceptions to this rule. a pokeball cannot be a master ball, beast ball, gs ball, cherish ball or premiere ball. all of these balls are their own separate items with different effects. cherish balls boost the gain of friendship by 10% when a pokemon is caught in one. these can be bought in shops, but they are much more expensive that regular pokeballs. premiere balls boost exp gained by 10% for the pokemon caught in one. these balls are very rare and cannot be bought. you can only earn them through sitewide events, special missions, or as a special reward by an admin. sometimes, pokemon gained from events, wonder trade or the adoption center might have one! alolan forms. alolan pokemon and their variouis forms can be found on this site. if you see a pokemon that has an alolan form in a 'wild pokemon' thread for that area, there is a chance it will be spawned in it's alolan form. for example, if you see that Rattata can be caught on Route 1, then there is a chance that an Alolan Ratta will spawn. This is also true of Alolan Meowth. Alolan Vulpix and Alolan Sandshrew are the exceptions to this. They are listed where you may catch them; it doesn't make sense for ice type pokemon to live in the desert or in a forest. On the flip side of this, in Wild areas where Vulpix and Sandshrew may spawn, they cannot be in their Alolan form. if a pokemon evolves into an Alolan form, like Alolan Raichu, you must buy a special item from the shop as well as fullfill the other requirements for evolution. pokemon experience. pokemon gain levels much like they would in the games. you gain exp and when you have enough you gain a level. when pokemon are the appropriate level they can learn new moves and evolve. the exp on Reach is your word count. wc does not accumulate for every post you do- only posts where you are in battle with your pokemon. one word is the equivalent of one exp, so if you write 50 words in a battle post you earn 50 exp for the pokemon participating. exp is rewarded after each post. if your pokemon gains a level and it can now evolve, it does not evolve that post but the next. more on that below in the 'evolution' section. you gain full exp inside the training area whether you win or lose and half exp in route threads. this means if you write 500 words in the training area you gain 500 exp. in route threads, 500 words is only worth 250 exp. if you battle with more than one pokemon, by switching them out or in a double battle, the exp is split equally between the pokemon used. so, if you write a 1000 wc post and use a squirtle and meowth, each pokemon will gain 500 exp. the exp from getting level to level raises each time you level up. from level 1 to level 2 it takes 100 exp, then from 2 to 3 it takes 125, and 3 to 4 150. this does not mean you need 150 experience total to get to level 4. you will need 375 exp to get that far (100 + 125 + 150 = 375). if you ever get confused on how much exp your pokemon needs, you can look at the chart below. To get from level 1 to 2 - 100 words. To get from level 2 to 3 - 125 words. To get from level 3 to 4 - 150 words. To get from level 4 to 5 - 175 words. To get from level 5 to 6 - 200 words. To get from level 99 to 100 - 2550 words. exhaustion. on Reach, pokemon can only level up so many times in a thread before they face Exhaustion. leveling up a lot at once is very unhealthy for a pokemon since it is facing a lot of rapid growth. the most your pokemon can grow in one thread is 5 levels at a time before it becomes Exhausted. this may seem very limiting for pokemon at lower levels who don't take as long to grow, but it will start to even out the higher they climb. 'but wait!' you say. 'won't that waste some of my hard earned exp?' the answer is yes and no. pokemon can still gain levels and exp after it is Exhausted, but they will only be worth half as much as normal. 100 words from an Exhausted pokemon only counts as 50 exp. if what you're halving comes up to be uneven, like 101, round up. 101 wc would give you 51 exp when exhausted. if you are on a route, where you gain half exp anyway, an exhausted pokemon will only earn 1/4th of the exp. on a normal route, 100 wc is 50 exp. an exhausted pokemon would only earn 25 exp in that situation. pokemon do not gain friendship when Exhausted. more on friendship below. battling fairness. pokemon battling can be a touchy subject on some sites. we want this process to be as streamlined, stress free and fun for all of our members as possible. if you want a site where numbers rule all of the battling this is not the site for you. creativity wins the day here. use your enviroment to your advantage, combine moves to make interesting new effects, shoot for the moon! however, keep a level of realism as well. a level 25 pikachu and charmander would be about evenly matched. a level 25 pikachu will have an easier time beating a level 17 charmander, but that doesn't mean the charmander is going to lay down and give up. advantages work the same way. a level 20 popplio is pretty evenly matched against a level 25 litten since litten is weak to water. of course, since this is rp, the group of plucky level 5 pokemon could beat out a level 50 if it is plot related and both players agree to it. the main focus of battling is that you shouldn't take away someone else's enjoyment just so you can win. it doesn't matter how long your character has been a trainer, or how vicious and well trained a pokemon is- you will lose sometimes. if you are winning every battle you are doing something wrong. technical. pokemon can learn moves through level up, tutor, tm and egg. the pokemon on reach can know up to six moves at a time; if you already have six and want to learn another you will have to delete an old one. we will use the level up chart from the newest game that the pokemon has available. as of right now, this is the sun/moon level up chart. if you have a tm the pokemon you want to use it on must be able to learn it for the generation in question. if you are using a tm from another generation, you can only use that tm if that pokemon could learn it in that generation. for example, if you have a GenIII TM 03 Water Pulse, Snorunt may learn that moves since it could learn it in GenIII. But, a Water Pulse TM from another generation cannot be used since it could not learn it in those other generations! tms are also one use items. after you have used a tm on a pokemon, it is gone and you cannot use it again. hms are treated the same as tms. they can only be used once. hms only teach the pokemon how to fight with their natural abilities; your pokemon does not need to know Fly in order to fly you around! It just needs to know Fly in order to use it in battle. a pokemon also only have one ability on site. it is very rare to get a hidden ability but not impossible. certain moves and abilities do not work on site like they do in the game. if you encounter one of these, please ask staff and they will discuss it and add it to the list here. pay day - can only be used 3 times per battle thread. after the battle, each attack is worth 3 x Pokemon Level in Specks. So a level 10 Meowth using Pay Day would earn 30 Specks. If it used this 3 times in a battle thread, it would earn 90 Specks total. metronome - use random.org to roll from 1-719. whatever number you land on, use the move this table shows. sketch - the last move your opponent used in battle, sketch is replaced with that move. this only works in battle thread with other members, not in solo threads. attract - will only work on pokemon with compatible sexualities. gay pokemon will not be affected by opposite gender. bisexual will be affected by both genders. asexual pokemon are immune. if this starts to be abused, this move will be outlawed. cute charm - like attract, it will only work on pokemon with compatible sexualities. gay pokemon will not be affected by opposite gender. bisexual will be affected by both genders. asexual pokemon are immune. if this starts to be abused, this ability will be outlawed.
honey gather - if you mention it in your post with the pokemon, you may occasionally find Honey.
pickup - if you mention it in your post with the pokemon, you may occasionally find a random item. if a move or ability steals an opponents item, and you are in a battle with another member, those items are returned at the end of the battle. pvp. certain trainer vs trainer battles will be more strict than just having a fun time with your friend. keep in mind that battles in the Magidome, against Gym Leaders, for missions, and in tournaments, and in battle with staff-modded pokemon are all expected to adhere to these rules. breaking them without the express permission of the other trainer is against the rules and will be punished. - No more than 2 moves per pokemon per post
- No infinite dodging
- No using healing moves more than twice per battle

evolution general. pokemon evolve. its part of the whole appeal of pokemon. the most common way is by leveling up. if a pokemon reaches the appropriate level, the next post it may evolve. you are free to hold off this evolution as long as you like, though. below are some more speciliazed ways that evolution is formatted on this site that doesn't translate well from the gameverse. if your pokemon needs an item to evolve and you have it, you are free to evolve them at any time. if your pokemon needs to be holding a certain item, just use that item as you would any other evolutionary item. if a pokemon needs an item+trade in the game, you just need to use the item itself. no trade is needed. if a pokemon evolves with trade in the game, they can now use an item called a Trade Link to evolve instead. if a pokemon, like cubone, can evolve into an Alolan form, you will need to reach the appropriate level and use a Strange Souvenir. Alolan pokemon, like Vulpix and Meowth, can only evolve into their Alolan forms. A regular Rattata cannot evolve into an Alolan Raticate. if your pokemon can evolve into multiple things, like wurmple, you may pick what it evolves into. inkay just needs to be the appropriate level. you can have it turn upside down icly if you wish. if a pokemon, like vivillion, has multiple forms you can choose which one it evolves into. if a pokemon needs to know a certain move to evolve, it must know that move. charjabug, magneton and nosepass will now use a Lighting Stone to evolve. crabrawler will use an Ice Stone to evolve. eevee can evolve into a leafeon with a Leaf Stone eevee can evolve into glaceon with an Ice Stone if a pokemon needs to evolve during a certain time of the day, just say it is that time of day in your thread. mantyke does not need a remoraid in the party. it now evolves at level 33. when a nincada evolves, you will get both ninjask and shedinja. you do not need a dark type in the party to evolve pangoro. just meet the appropriate level. to evolve sliggoo, just say it is raining in the thread. kirlia and snorunt can use a dawn stone regardless of gender. so you are more than welcome to have male froslass and female gallade. shelmet and karrablast both use a Trade Link to evolve. you do not have to trade the two of them. if staff have missed one or you have any questions, pm me or 🌺 inari 🌺 and we will add it. friendship. friendship evolutions are evolutions that take time since you have to form a bond with the pokemon in question. this is represented on site by a wc meter. each pokemon you want to evolve with friendship will gain friendship whenever you use them in battle or just spend time with them in a thread. you need 25000 friendship before a pokemon is able to evolve. you gain friendship the exact same way as you do exp. it's half for threads on the main board and full in the 'friendship fiesta' area of the magidome. your pokemon will gain friendship in any thread you interact with them, but they cannot gain both exp and friendship at the same time. you must pick one over the other. if you hatch a pokemon from an egg yourself, they start out with 5000 friendship. pokemon suffering from Exhaustion will not gain friendship for the remainder of that thread since you are pushing them past their limits. pokemon that need affection in the games to evolve (igglybuff, chansey, ect) will use friendship. to get a sylveon you will also use friendship. feebas will also use friendship to evolve. a prism scale will not work. breeding regulations. in order to prevent unsafe breeding practices in the region of Inset, the Pokemon Protection Agency set up specific breeding regulations. pokemon may only breed with other pokemon inside of their 'group' to prevent dangerous crossbreeds. pokemon are also expected to be given a proper rest time between breedings to prevent puppy-milling. you may also only breed pokemon that are comfortable with one another. breaking these rules will result in having your liscese revoked or jail time depending on the sevarity of the crime. these are the ic reasons for these rules. how they translate to the site are as thus: - Pokemon can only breed with pokemon that share their egg groups
- you must wait a specified length of time before you can breed a pokemon again. this is anywhere from 1-4 real life weeks.
- the two breeding pokemon must have completed 3 threads together before they can breed. these threads have to be at least 10 posts long. this must be done between each breeding.
Baby pokemon may not breed. You may attempt to breed a ditto with another ditto, but there isn't a high chance of success. genderless pokemon may breed with other genderless pokemon that share their egg group, or a ditto. the length of time you must wait between breedings is based on rarity. endangered pokemon wait the longest and common the shortest. overpopulated pokemon do not have a wait time, and can breed as many times as you can complete the required threads. - Common wait 1 week
- Uncommon wait 2 weeks
- Rare wait 3 weeks
- Endangered wait 4 weeks
eggs. with each successful breeding, a number of 1 to 3 eggs is produced. what you do with these eggs is up to you. sell them, hatch them, give them away... they're yours to do with as you please. keep in mind if you sell or give away an egg, you lost your right to have it. you cannot tag 'if you leave the site, i get it back'. the egg is not yours anymore and it will be added to the giveaway just the same as all the other pokemon. for some baby pokemon, you will need the proper incense to produce that pokemon. just having it is enough. the form in the breeding board will ask for the information. when an egg is spawned, staff will choose hidden abilities, if the parents passed on egg moves, sex of the pokemon and the species. we will also tell you if it has any mutations. however, you have control over the personality of the pokemon. hatching eggs is simple. it takes completing a certain number of threads with the egg present. each of these threads must be at least 10 posts long to count. after the last post of the last thread, you can hatch the egg at your discretion. you are not required to hatch it until you want to after you have completed the requirements. eggs can require anywhere from 1-5 threads before they can hatch. it is on a case by case basis, but rarer pokemon tend to take longer to hatch than others. mutations. when breeding, or even just catching, pokemon you may have a chance to have a mutation occur. this is the same as in real life, where someone may be born with different colored hair than their parents or with an extra toe. it is just part of life and just part of breeding. expect to see some mutations here and there. mutations are usually harmless and just add some flavor to your pokemon. a growlithe with a mightyena parent might have lighter and more fluffy fur. a chikorita with an emboar parent might have a reddish leaf and resist fire a little better than normal. sometimes, thanks to mutations, a pokemon might have a move or ability passed on it couldn't learn normally. mutations can be interesting and even useful in some cases. not all mutations are good. one of the problems with breeding pokemon in captivity is sometimes they can be born infertile. sometimes, even in the same egg group, the two pokemon might just not mix together well. a pokemon could be born without limbs, blind, deaf or with a mental illness. there are even cases where some eggs are laid stillborn and will not hatch. things that effect mutation chances are the rarity, size, and species. rare pokemon have a higher chance of being born infertile because of breeding stress. two very different pokemon could lead to a harmful, or helpful, mutation. the bigger the size disparity between the two parents, the higher chance of mutation as well. pokemon can have multiple mutations at once. keep in mind that shiny pokemon are not seen as mutations. respecting pokemon. since many pokemon are just as developed as humans they have their own preferences to breeding. we want to really showcase and celebrate personalities here. your pokemon may not be interested in breeding or may even be gay. if they are, and unless you can come up with a very good reason why they should breed, it is frowned upon to force pokemon who are not interested in that thing to do it just to make eggs. it is encouraged to treat your pokemon as more than a bartering chip or a production factory to turn a profit. pokemon items. certain items on the site can make gaining exp or friendship easier. these items are very rare and expensive so you're in luck if you get your hands on one! you can only use one of these items per thread but they can all be used indefinatly. a lucky egg will boost your exp gain by 25% when in battle. a soothe bell will boost your friendship gain by 25% when the pokemon is holding it. an exp share will grant up to 5 pokemon in your party 10% of the exp earned as long as they don't participate in the battle. so, if a trainer came in with a meowth and five magikarp, and only the meowth battled, the magikarp would still gain a little exp. stacking. some of you may be wondering if effects from various sources stack. the answer is yes and no. if your pokemon is in a cherish ball and you have a lucky egg, you will need to choose which one is active since you can only gain exp or friendship at a time, not both. if your pokemon is in a premier ball and you have a lucky egg active, you will get a 35% boost to exp instead of a 25% boost. pokespeech. we are a pokespeech friendly site. more intelligent pokemon may be able to speak human languages. humans who have worked with pokemon a long time might be able to understand pokemon chatter. this is not a requirement and you can opt out of this if you do not like using pokespeech. there are all levels of pokemon here, so if you enjoy using it you might have a pokemon who you can only understand as much as your cat can talk as well as having one fluent in english. it is really up to the rp'er if they want this option or not.
