HAVEN'T YOU HEARD WHAT BECOMES OF CURIOUS MINDS?
Houdini could sense it. There was something off about the man, which is why he was rather glad he’d been picked as Irving’s starter. He sadly came into the room too late to catch any of the embarrassing scene where Irving had mistakenly taken to talking to a chair
Irving was happily carrying him though, lazily stroking his fur as he started walking through the town. Cassiopeia was rather small but one could occasionally find some Pokemon around.
“Not very chatty, huh?” Irving said quietly, peering in the space between two houses. He was honestly hoping he might spot a Minccino while he was still in the village. There was a few other things that commonly made their home here though and he wouldn’t be entirely against finding any of them. “It’s fine though, I can talk enough for the two of us.”
“Long as I can sleep through it.” The Meowth sighed, eyes lazily looking around too. “Is there something you’d like? I didn’t think a businessman would need many pokemon.”
“Like I told you and the others at the lab- I don’t want to do the gym challenge, but I actually don’t mind battling.” Irving’s lips turned up. Prize money alone could make a fight worth it. “And since you don’t look up to being my prime fighter, it might be good to find a few others.”
Houdini squinted, ears twitching. There was a comic he sometimes liked to reference, concerning his ability to just hear the lies coming out. These weren’t the lies though. Far as he could tell Irving was avoiding something and just telling the truth about his other methods. “And what are you hoping to find?”
Irving shrugged, the motion going through his whole arm and lifting the Meowth somewhat. “I’m not sure. Minccino live around here, as do a lot of other good fairy types.”
Criminals were rarely excited for fairies unless they were looking to sell, but they were very useful for fighting powerful dragons. “You should probably look somewhere dirty then.”
“Ah, good point.” Irving shifted to peer under a porch. Nothing scurried under that one.
The Meowth snorted, claws digging into Irving’s shirt a little. “You know, it doesn’t look good for you to be snooping around people’s houses at night.”
“Oh they’re all sleeping.” Cassopeia didn’t seem to have much in the way of late night activity. Irving was still sure to keep his voice acceptably low. “I doubt anyone’s going to mind much.” He slipped between the tighter alley formed by two houses, shoulders nearly brushes both walls.
Houdini grit his teeth, resisting the urge to snap at the man for being ridiculous. So much for the meek guy he met at the lab. “You are trespassing.”
Irving’s lips twitched up. “Technically, is it trespassing if no one’s around to get upset about it?”
“Yes, it is.” Just because no one could arrest him didn’t make it less of a crime.
