The frozen air stings your skin as you make your way onto the ice filled lake. The background is filled with the glaciers reaching high into the sky. You can see your opponent leaning against a tower of ice on top of one of the ice pools that floats lazily through the water. You know that the water would be ice cold to the touch. That is where Mei Sasaki awaits for you, bundled in her snow clothes with a lazy looking Sneasel standing besides her, reading a fashion magazine and seemingly bored. As they see you approach, the Sneasel looks up and moves to place the magazine away into Mei's bag. They were waiting for you.
Rules:
This will be a one on one pokemon battle.
Please do not enter with a pokemon that is an insanely higher/lower level than lvl 5. I would say a +-5 deviation.

Day one gone by The wind is getting colder every night
Word Count - 813 | @puppy | NOTES - Yo wassup
Judas shivered as he carefully tested the ice before him with each step before taking it, a slow but steady progress across the immensely vast frozen lake. He had decidedly never been one for the cold, though certainly he had been through it often enough, and in theory his parents originally were from a much colder place before they came to Inset, he still had never quite liked it. Perhaps the only saving grace he had, as he picked away across the freezing landscape, was he had been given some fore warning of the area ahead. Enough, at least, to pack on some layers, a thick pale blue coat wrapped around him with heavily furred trim and a hood, as well as a thickly woven blue and white scarf that wrapped twice around his neck. Fur trimmed leather gloves and his usual black boots topped it off, but it hardly seemed to stop him from huddling into himself to try and conserve warmth in the biting false winter frost. But at least some seemed to have fewer problems with the cold. Actually, if anything, the Archen who skidded on the slippery ice ahead of him seemed quite unbothered by it. At least, comparitively, Socrates still had made sure to complain of the cold, but she excused it as 'being unfair on old bones' rather then any actual vulnerability on her part. After all, it used to be much colder when she was alive, a virtual ice age at one point really, this lake was nothing compared to that. It was probably fortunate Judas didn't think to ask her how she managed to survive a cold such as that if she was, by nature, a jungle creature, adapted to sweltering muggy tropical forests rather then dry frozen wastelands. Instead, he let her talk and boast and complain, listening quietly with occasional small commentary as he followed behind, on his shoulder Archimedes bundled in her own scarf and snuggled against him, the rest of his team packed away to spare his birds the freezing weather. As a general rule, avians were not very well cut out for the cold. Socrates just seemed... A little better at handling it.
Though in theory, it had not been Socrates who had wanted to come here at all. Reluctant pride had bid her to give challenge when it turned out the only open room still available for a battle was on a frozen lake, and Judas, already uncomfortable with this entire idea from the start, was unwilling to sign up to create a room himself for this. The perpetrator of the idea and cause for the pursuing of a battle in this place, the fiery little fletchling Zeno, had decidedly lost his taste for battle when it was revealed the location, and with it, likely, a hint at the opponent to come. But they had already been there, and it was already open... Archimedes had put forth the suggestion of Socrates, boaster as she was, perhaps could try it instead. And so they were here, the archen grumbling while pretending to remain steadfast. It was not the best of situations or events, but it could have been worse, minor as this entire matter was really.
Besides, it was a little late for regrets as the trio came upon their opponent, a woman bundled up as she stood leaned against an ice pillar, a sneasel beside her. Socrates slid across the ice towards them, then dug her claws in several feet before the ominously dark water that seperated the main ice from the ice floe the other two drifted on. Leering suspiciously at the water, the archen nervously shuffled her wings, tail flicking behind her. < Oh yay, ice cold water... > She peered across at the sneasel and woman, toothed beak tilting slightly. The dark type looked... Bored. < Not that I'm like, complaining. I've swam in freezing water before you know... > She trailed off, talons pussyfooting at the ice to try and hide her nervousness. She didn't really want to be fighting... She was just, doing it to... Show how good she was or something. Right?
A moment later Judas was behind her, nodding to the pair further out on the floating ice. "E-err, greetings! I guess this is umm... A battle arena then? S-Sorry, I don't do this type of thing really, I'm not sure if there is a process to this or we just sort of... Begin. U-umm. I'm Judas, Judas Iskariot, it's g-good meeting you" He was fumbling, nervous and uncertain as he awkwardly called out greeting, and the chattering of his teeth certainly didn't help as he stuttered slightly trying to get words out. Another shivering breath of cold air was taken in, a plume of white condensation appearing before his lips as he exhaled. He was not the best in the cold.

The ice type's eyes move from the magazine to the people slowly making their way against the unstable ice. She nudges the foot of the girl leaning against the ice wall, who proceeds to look up, her amber eyes staring at the two approaching them. < It's about time. > The Sneasel mutters under her breath, closing her magazine and moving over to Mei's bag before proceeding to unzip it to place the magazine safely inside it for future reading, her long claws grazing the outside of the colorful bag, completely unabashed by the cold surrounding them.
This was one of their first battles, and the nervousness reflected in the girl's eyes as the challengers approached them, crossing the unstable ice. "Why did you have to choose this?" Mei mutters to the Sneasel, "No one can stand on it properly except you." The Sneasel looked up at Mei as if she was a complete idiot, < That's the point, idiot. > Mei sighs and continues, "I mean if I fall in and die of pneumonia, I'm blaming you." The ice and dark type rolled her eyes and gave a little fake yawn, waiting for them to approach. < Can't they get here any faster? > she whines.
"No, because you chose a bad arena."
< Shut up. >
Mei let out a little laugh as her Sneasel crossed her arms and pouted.
They watch as the little rock and bird type pokemon at the man's side gently prods at the water with a foot, and the Sneasel smirks. Mei notices and addresses her pokemon, "Just don't get too cocky." < Yeah, because that bird isn't afraid of the cold at all. > Mei rolls her eyes, "But you don't know any ice type moves yet."
< Soon I will. >
"Sure."
< What do you mean by sure?! > The Sneasel's voice was suddenly full of worry.
"Oh, it's nothing, it's just that according to the pokedex it's going to take a while to learn your first ice type move."
The Sneasel stuck it's tongue out, < Pokedex scmokedex. You'll see. >
Mei laughs, and they stop one of the first friendly conversations they've had since they had stepped foot outside of the pokemon laboratory. Her eyes gaze at the man and the archen besides him as they begin to speak from across the icy terrain, his voice full of the same restless nervousness that Mei felt inside of her.
The girl shook lightly from the cold as she called across to him, "Yeah, this is one of my first battles also," she laughs nervously, "I'm pretty sure, we're just supposed to start. I'm Mei Sasaki, and it's a pleasure to meet you." Her face retains her normal, polite smile while she thinks back to her days of learning in the pokemon school in Jubilife city, remembering what they said about battles. Always try to get the first attack. She felt awkward as she continued, trying not to sound rude, "I hope it's alright with you if I start?" she questions, the ice type sneasel suddenly becoming alert and jumping forwards. < Finally. > she mutters under her breath.
"Ok Courtney, start off with a taunt!" She calls across the ice, the Sneasel grinning at the Archen, raising a glowing claw to start taunting the Archen. < Come on, birb! Show me what your made of! >

The pressure's getting hard to take I feel the ice about to break
Word Count - 576 | @puppy | NOTES - Eyyy, let's fite m8
Judas smiled in return at the girl as she introduced herself as Mei Sasaki, dipping his hooded head in greeting, though his arms remained wrapped around himself, his tall back arched slightly to huddle into himself a bit. He was glad they were on the same oage though, at least, and realizing he wasn't jumping into something like this with someone who was experienced made him feel much more comfortable as he eased up a little bit. "F-first time for everything eh?" She mentioned that they were simply to start the fight, and he nodded, an affirmation of "Alright" quietly leaving after. Then Mei was asking for permission to start first, and Judas blinked, mildly confused as he managed a "Y-yeah, of course." The thought of going first hadn't even crossed his mind, he was not particularly a battle oriented person enough to really know most of the strategy and ways of things, he was lucky if he could remember his pokemon's moves and what they did honestly. He also wasn't sure if there was any general etiquette on whether the challenger or the challenged tended to act first, but it seemed plenty fair for the girl to move first since this had been her battle room...A thought crossed his mind as Judas watched the sneasel, the only pokemon seemngly at Mei's side at all. Then, hastily, a question "A-ah, we are only doing one fight right? One pokémon each? Or....?" It had been noted in the room's info that the fight was a 1v1, but nothing specific had been said about a required number of pokémon. He wouldn't want to be unfair to the other girl by using more then she had afterall... He might have had a few pokémon already but that didn't mean everyone else did. Archimedes, huddled against him, cooed, the pidove seeming to scoff at his worrying. Not that Socrates agreed with such, a muttered < No > leaving her beak as the archen lashed her tail, a leery and uncertain glare being given toward the sneasel, suddenly lively as impatience was met with promise of action now. Then she was being taunted, the dark type cockily beckoning at her, as though they didn't have the time or bother to come over to her, so full of themself to smugly give her challenge. A growl rippled under her breath, then rose to a strange sound, halfway between a reptilian hiss and a bird's shriek. < Here! > She squawked, puffing herself upas she spread flrightless wings wide, kicking at the ice as she summoned up a rock throw, hurling an icy chunk of rock at the sneasel across the gap. < That's what I'm made of! > She huffed, huddling into herself, her mood darkened even as she attempted to lighten it with bad humor, stricken by the taunt and brimming still with aggression.Judas cringed slightly as the rocks were hurled, realizing only belatedly as he opened his mouth to say something, that Socrates was battling completely on her own. He felt guilty, and awkward, he was uncomfortable giving orders to Pokémon even as he realized that's just what Mei and her partner were doing. But he was no trainer or fighter, what did he know of good battle techniques....? Biting his lip as he let his mouth close, he shivered again without comment, decided on letting Socrates handle this as long as the archen continued to fight instinctually.Socrates - Archen - Flying/Rock Defeatist - No Item - Female - Lvl. 10 Quick Attack - Leer - Wing Attack - Rock Throw - Double Team 100% Health | Taunted Socrates used Rock Throw Socrates gained 576 exp. The taunt appears to work it's wonder, the archen raging and beginning to attack, the ball of ice hurtling at the ice type. It hadn't even gotten a command from the trainer, and Mei couldn't tell if that was on purpose or if it was the taunt doing more than it was supposed too. The girl standing on the ice suddenly tenses up, her face visibly changing with worry, about to call out to the Sneasel, but it's too late. The ice filled rock smashes into the Sneasel, sending it flying into the air. Mei winces as the pokemon lands with a splash in the icy depths of the lake, she stars to rush forwards to see if it was alright, but stops because the ice she was floating on rocked dangerously whenever she moved. Guess she had to wait until the fight was over.
The pokemon breaks the surface of the water with a grin, jumping back up onto the ice, seemingly unfazed, but Mei could tell that the rock throw had done a number on the Sneasel. < Is that all you got? > The Sneasel laughs at the archen, at Mei winces as the Sneasel who had obviously gotten hurt from that one move. There is a little notification noise from the pokedex, signifying that dark type's health was low, Mei's face changes from one of nervousness to determination. She didn't want to lose her first fight ever.
"Quick, Courtney!" She calls out the dark type, "Use Scratch!" The Sneasel turns around, reflecting Mei's face of determination, < Got it! > she calls to Mei, before turning back to the taunted Archen. The dark types feet slides quickly across the ice like an experienced ice skater as it jumps towards the bird, reaching out with it's claws to scratch the opposing Archen, jumping through the air towards it, grinning the entire time.

Like a gunshot And I can't stop The bullet in my heart
Word Count - 472 | @puppy | NOTES - omfg i feel guilty, whoops I shouldn't have gone archen, so sorry ;-; Judas cringed at the chunk of ice hurled at the sneasel, the man likewise tensing and flinching in sympathy at the hit, a gasp leaving him as his startled thoughts scrambled with a sudden aching concern and worry, the other pokémon going flying and tumbling into the freezing water. A gloved hand was clasped to his mouth, biting back the cry that threatened to leave in shock and alarm, and he involuntarily was taking hurried steps forward to the edge of the ice. "I'm so sorry!" He managed, a gasped voice calling out, almost too quietly in his shock. His eyes searched the water desperately, azure lenses looking for the woman's pokemon with anxiety. He shouldn't have done this, gods he felt so terrible even if he hadn't done anything, he hadn't expected Socrates to manage to hurt the other pokémon so badly...Socrates, honestly, hadn't expected to either. The archen blinked, staring as her beak opened slightly, surprised and stunned. Not that she felt bad, the taunt stilhl digging it's claws in and making her aggressive, her thinking unclear. She had hit the sneasel, and hit it hard, and that's what mattered. She felt too irritable and... Tired to care. Not that she was worn out from fighting of course, just, old bones and all... That. Then the sneasel resurfaced, Judas' worry abating a touch with an obvious shift and sigh of relief—though his brows remained furrowed and his features uncertain, clearly unconvinced the pokémon was fine after the hit mixed with the icy waters—even as Socrates puffed herself up again, scowling at the dark type's reckless grin and mocking words. Hissing angrily as she was laughed at, she felt her tail lash defensively, her back arching and her beak parting to reveal jagged teeth. < SHUT UP > She snapped, < What do you know huh? I've dealt with much worse then you! > It was bluffing, she'd barely fought at all before, and most times she had ran or chickened out, it was easier just not to fight, but... What did this sneasel think she was, laughing? She wasn't weak, she wasn't just some useless nobody....Judas managed an alarmed and choked "S-socrates!" as the sneasel launched towards the archen, not even pausing as a snapped order sent it sliding across the ice, grinning and throwing itself at Socrates. Freezing up in surprise, then trying to scrabble back in alarm—a rather poor attempt at such as claws scraped clumsily on ice—she beat her wings furiously, then with a shriek, was slammed to the ground as claws slashed at her. She whipped out in retaliation, feet kicking in a sudden quick attack before the sneasel could move off her, a clumsily made wing attack trying to follow, though her wings were more flailing then aiming for anything in the panic.Socrates - Archen - Flying/Rock Defeatist - No Item - Female - Lvl. 10 Quick Attack - Leer - Wing Attack - Rock Throw - Double Team 92% Health | Taunted Socrates used Quick Attack Socrates used Wing Attack Socrates has 306/325 exp (exhausted)

The rock and flying type was now battling completely alone, and Mei couldn't tell if this was a strategical move made by the trainer facing her from the opposite side of the frozen lake, or if the taunt had worked well enough to bring the archen into this much of a rage as it screams at the dark type.
As the Sneasel bounds forwards, claws extended to scratch the rock type bird, it whips out and attacks with a quick attack, sending Sneasel hurling again. It tries to dive in with a wing attack, but the clumsy, rage induced flying attack was easily dodge by the Sneasel as it jumps back up, moving quickly to the side. It breaths in and out heavily, feeling the pain of being attacked over and over again with hard hitting moves.
"Come, on just hang it a bit longer," Mei calls out to her distraught pokemon, "Try using scratch again!"
The Sneasel nods, ready to fight the angered Archen, jumping forwards again at it, claws extended to reach out and scratch it.
