Against the tide we struggle To keep our heads above the deep And our hearts above the lie The fact that he had a Pokemon now didn't make him feel any easier about moving to a new region. Honestly he'd been pretty confident about the entire thing until he met his partner. The Wingull wasn't particularly pleased with him and he couldn't blame her. He'd been the one to fuck up their first meeting and there was no way to really fix first impressions. He would just have to make sure that any other interactions they had with one another went a little bit better. The jeep ride to the bus station had left him wondering when he should let her out to try to bond. Probably not on the bus. He wasn't sure how she would feel about being on public transport. She might complain about how she was capable of flying all the way to the north of the region on her own. He of course could not. But he also had the feeling that she wouldn't care. With his feet finally on the road though he knew it was only a matter of time before he had to release her from the Pokeball. It would probably be better to get her used to him sooner rather than later... Biting his lip he carefully expanded the Pokeball and released the Wingull. He had yet to give her a name but he was also pretty sure she wouldn't answer to it regardless of what he called her. A name would have to come later whenever they trusted each other more. Until then he would just... Fuck he didn't know. There was no way he could let Caden know that his own starter wanted to kick his ass though... As she released her wings flapped in annoyance. At least Altair thought it was annoyance. It was really hard to tell. < What the hell d' ya think ya doing? > She'd never been to this part of the region before. The tall waving grass made her a little on the anxious side. There was no clue who or what was hiding behind those green waves. But at least they weren't in the city. Without much ado she flew up into the air to get a better vantage. "We're on route one now. Figured you would want to stretch your wings." He wasn't sure how much space there was in the ranger biome so he could at least let her take off a bit. Not that she could go far with him having her Pokeball really. Of course she didn't answer him and instead chose to ignore the person who she had been forced to partner up with. If he wanted a buddy to chat with then he was going to have to think again. She wasn't particularly in a chatty mood.
That was until he shifted his bag some, revealing an incubator to check on the egg within. It was a red egg that radiated heat even without the incubator. But at least that helped to regulate it. That grabbed the Wingull's attention as she dove down from her place in the air and landed on his already bandaged arm, no care for the wounds that she had managed to make the first time they met. Maybe as a reminder of the fact that her claws could do that again at any time. < Ya better take care of that egg ya fuck! I won' tolerate no fuckin' funny business! > He vividly remembered the promise that she had made the last time they'd met. "I'm going to take care of him..."
He wanted to add on that he was a former ranger and that he knew what he was doing. But he also knew that it wouldn't do any good. Claws tightened around his injured arm as the Wingull took off once more, keeping an even closer eye on the human now. Knowing that she had an egg to look after meant that she needed to actually pay attention to what the fuck was doing. Rather than just enjoying the wind on her feathers. So she didn't fly quite as high as she had been moments ago. Her wings beating steadily as Altair walked on the hard dirt path. It was easy to see that this region was well cared for and that the people worked hard. Hopefully he would be able to find some wild Pokemon as well... It wouldn't due as a ranger to not be able to test his merit against the regions wildlife.

Against the tide we struggle To keep our heads above the deep And our hearts above the lie Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. Where had he left it? The Spearow hopped about in the tall grass, looking for the bright red scrap of cloth that he had managed to find. It was perfect for his nest. Absolutely perfect. And yet somehow he had managed to accidentally set it down somewhere... You would think that with how vivid the color was he would be able to find it without a problem. But no. Surely it had to be over there... Or no... Maybe it was over here? Frantically he moved about in an attempt to find the beautiful cloth. Maybe he could ask someone? Surely if they saw it then someone would be able to remember where they saw it at. Though if someone else did manage to find it he was quite sure they would probably end up keeping it for themselves. It was just that nice of a cloth if he did say so himself. It wasn't until he heard the sound of a voice, no plural, voices that he froze in place. Out here the only voices were newcomers from the lab. Ones that wouldn't know how to navigate the fields like this. Or other Pokemon. If it was other Pokemon then he would have to figure out exactly where and why they were on the main road. After all everyone knew that the main road was danger danger danger. A trainer could just scoop you up from your home without any sort of warning. Not that he was going to have much of a home without that red cloth. It was the only thing to distinguish his home from all the other Spearow nests out there. Without it he would never remember which one was his. Not when they were all identical like that. As it was he was going to have trouble finding his way back to the nesting ground. Was it... A left turn at this bend or a right? If he flew up into the air maybe he would be able to find it? But there were so many trees and the field was so high. It was such a long shot really. He didn't know if he would be able to deal with having to wait for someone to come along again... It was nesting season and no one wanted to nest with someone who couldn't even remember where they'd left the eggs when it was their turn to come back to them. The voices got just a little bit louder as he pondered and he thought that he heard one of them mention an egg. Curious since that was just what he had been thinking of. Maybe if they had an egg they would be willing to help him find his way back to the nesting grounds? It might have been someone that knew there way around. Not to mention the curiosity that came from seeing who had an egg around here. As much as he knew he was unlikely to ever have any that didn't stop him from enjoying them in the slightest from being interested in other people who had them. Carefully the bird hopped towards the road, feathers slightly puffed in order to avoid looking too small or like he might be someone worth attacking. That was the right tactic after all... At least he thought it was. Maybe he was supposed to look small and meek to stop from being attacked? It was confusing. If he ever made it back home he would ask whoever it was that told him that. Half fluffed up and half confused the Spearow hopped out onto the road finally, skittering wildly whenever he realized that it was in fact a human and those feet were coming awfully close.< Don't step on me. Don't step on me. Oh Arceus don't step on me. > He was only a foot tall and he was sure that was short enough to be missed by the distracted human that was walking and talking to someone else. Though he didn't see anyone else... Maybe it was just him talking to himself? Though that would be weird if he was able to make such different sounding voices. < Watch ya clunky feet ya fuckin' lunkhead! > Soren had already been well aware of the fact that there was a bird running about on the ground. As well as well aware of the fact that he needed to watch his step. But that didn't stop Wingull from chiming in about it. "I'm not going to step on him!" To prove his point he stopped walking entirely. Watching as the flying type continued to run around attempting to dodge feet that weren't even coming his way.
Wingull landed near the other bird, giving him a gentle peck to let him know that it was alright to stop running around. At least until the giant started walking around again. What an inconsiderate fuck. < Ya alright? > He looked distressed, even beyond having to dodge a human's giant footsteps. < Yes. I think so... > Now what had he come out here for? Something... Something... About... His eyes were drawn to the human the moment Altair began to move. Leaning down some in order to join the conversation between the birds that he had been excluded from. His eyes glinted with excitement as he remembered what he had come out here for in part. < Is that an egg? > Excitedly he hopped closer to the human, head tilting as he tried to get a closer look at the incubator."Yes. It is. Would you like to see it?" Since the egg was in an incubator he didn't mind putting it on the ground. The casing would keep it nice and safe while the bird looked it over. Carefully the Spearow circled and circled around it. His head tilting occasionally as he cooed and examined it. It was such a pretty red color. Like no red he'd ever seen before. < Such a nice red. So healthy. > He couldn't contain himself as he stared. The red reminded him what he had come out for to begin with. The red cloth. But he had no idea where it was and now that he was out of the fields he would never find where he dropped it again. "Thank you, I'm doing my best to look after it." His comment got a snort from the Wingull as she gave him a look that could kill. As if he had any other choice in the matter.< You wouldn't happen to know where the nesting ground is? Can't find it on my own... > It was a long shot. Especially since they had no idea what the area layout was. All Altair could do was shake his head sadly. He didn't know where the nesting ground was. "If you want we could help you look for it?" As a former ranger it was still part of his duty to help Pokemon when they needed it. The Spearow nervously preened at a couple of his feathers while he thought it over. Then he finally shook his head. < No point. Haven't got any eggs and I've lost the red cloth. > Meaning even if he found the nest he had built he wouldn't be able to mark it anyways. It would be a never ending cycle. If Altair didn't know any better, he would think the bird was having more problems than not being able to find his way home. "Not to be rude but, are you alright?" If this was his first instance of being able to catch a wild Pokemon he was up for it. Especially if it was helping one that wasn't exactly... fit for living in the wild. It happened sometimes that a Pokemon born in the wild wouldn't be able to function as well as the others in its flock. < I have trouble remembering things sometimes. Mostly my nest. It looks like all the others. I wanted to find something to make it stand out... > But then he'd dropped it and had no idea where it had gone after that. So that was it... Memory problems happened often with bird Pokemon so he wasn't surprised. Digging out one of the Pokeballs he'd received in his starter kit he held it out. "If you can't find your wild nest you can always make a new home with us. We'd be glad to have you along." Curiously the Spearow finally dragged his attention away from the red egg and looked at the red and white ball. It shone and the color also reminded him of the red cloth he had mistakenly placed somewhere. But this, this he wouldn't be able to lose because it wasn't his responsibility! This human would take care of it! He would be free to do whatever he wanted and look at the bright shiny red egg... Or whatever other eggs the human grabbed. Oh how he hoped they would be red! < Sounds like a plan! > His beak reached out and pecked at the ball so that whatever needed to happen could.

Against the tide we struggle To keep our heads above the deep And our hearts above the lie He'd done it. Jesus fucking christ on a cracker he had managed to catch a Pokemon other than his starter. And it had been through convincing the Pokemon to come along, rather than battling. Of course which was the proper ranger way to do it. Of course he couldn't avoid battles forever but he wanted to wait until his Pokemon had grown a bit. Until they were trained and stronger before they challenged an honest to goodness wild Pokemon. Otherwise it could have been dangerous. Despite the Spearow having memory problems he as sure that the bird would be a good addition to the team. All he needed to work on was getting him to recognize simple cues that were hard to forget for the bird. He knew a few people who had worked with Pokemon like that and he was more than willing to give it a go himself.
He was just so, stupidly happy about it all. The grin on his face wide as he lifted the Pokeball up and clipped it to his belt. He could feel the wingull's eyes boring into him like a drill as he stood up. He knew she probably wasn't too pleased about the entire thing. But the fact of the matter was he didn't really care either way. He'd caught the Pokemon and the Spearow had been more than willing to join him. Peacefully he might have added if it wasn't already obvious. He hadn't even had her battle yet. ( I'm still watching ya. ) Her voice held a tinge of the edge that it did back at the ranger station. After she had settled down some from attacking him as she had been. It was worrisome and he hoped that he wasn't in for yet another flogging from the bird.
He lifted egg and incubator up to his chest and held it close. Trying to figure out what he wanted to do next. He knew that the bird would always be watching him. Until she maybe trusted him a little bit. But he wasn't expecting that to ever happen. And with good cause. He'd been the one to cause a rift between them and it was up to him to mend it. He just wasn't sure how to do that yet. Altair would just have to continue to be a good trainer until that time. "I wonder..." How many trainers bothered to go off of the beaten path around here? They were probably all too worried about the fact that they had new Pokemon and the fields were tall this time of year.
He was a trained former ranger though so he would be fine if he decided to go off the path. As he began to climb over the fencing that was supposed to stop people from doing this exact thing. It was thrilling really. To doing something that could technically be against the rules like this. It was just a small thing but he knew his mother would be shrieking if she knew that he was about to walk through a giant field full of bugs and dirty and god only knew what else. Wingull took off once more again, her wings carrying her above the field so she could get a better scope out. ( I hope you get gored. ) Though it was plain to see that this place wasn't a spot for large bull Pokemon to be wandering about. They'd ruin the crops if that were the case. "I'm sure I won't get gored. Your concern is admirable though." He muttered the last part under his breath, out of hearing for the flying bird who didn't need any more reason to want to peck at his eyes once more. He wasn't sure with the egg in his arms that he would be able defend himself against her. But luckily she stayed in the sky and he started forward. Pushing against some of the rougher stalks and tried to keep an eye out for anything interesting. Especially since a small Pokemon could be running around in and out of here. The last thing he wanted was for wingull to think that he was intentionally trying to stomp on tiny Pokemon in the grass. [googlefont=Economica]

Against the tide we struggle To keep our heads above the deep And our hearts above the lie Altair almost had trouble finding his footing as he stepped deeper into the fields. He hadn't been expecting it to be so uneven for some reason. Especially since when the field had first started it had been so easy going. But of course he wasn't going to admit that he was having any sort of rough time. If he did that would practically be giving it to Wingull that he wasn't up for this sort of thing despite his past experience. The only thing that was really bothering him was that he had yet to see any actual Pokemon around the place. It was as if Spearow had been the only Pokemon in the entire area. Which even though this was farmlands was entirely impossible. After all pokemon appeared everywhere. Even in the cities. There was no good call for why they wouldn't be hanging around here too. With a sigh of frustration he rubbed his face and turned to look some more. Surely there was just something he was missing here? That had to be it. In the distance he thought that he heard something that almost sounded like, laughing? If it could really be called that... But he couldn't really think about that right now. Out of his pocket fell a Pass Orb that he'd been carrying for a little bit now. But he didn't even really notice. Not when there were a million other things to think of.
