She'd heard talk from other individuals roaming about Cassiopeia. Groups speaking heatedly about the sudden influx of pokémon through out the region. Swarms as they put it. The term was nothing new to Olvia but at the same time the woman hadn't had the chance to experience one in person. After all those wild pokémon weren't too keen on entering human settlements before going in their merry way.
Either way, she couldn't say she was particularly pushed in following the suit of other trainers. The lot seemed to be catching anything that moved as she made her way toward nearby lake. The name escaped her although the kind woman had mentioned it a short time ago. The ginger honestly didn't feel like taking the map from her pack to verify something so trivial. And by the looks of that sign she didn't have to. "Cygnus Lake."
A distant voice broke through the steady sound flowing water. "I guess there's trainer's here too..." she pouted. What hope she had of relaxing for a quick lunch was thwarted then. The pichu perched on his stomach happily atop her head quirked his head down at his guardian. <No food? No fair!> Joule's expression soon followed with a pout of his own. Though be Olvia's accounts his was far more superior. "Let's hope they're not here long." Reaching up, she gave her newest companion a reassuring pat behind the ear.
"What's wrong with this thing? It doesn't fight back at all?" The nondescript youth stared down at the quivering chinchou who actively avoided eye contact with the human. By said humans side was an battle ready zigzagoon whose claws obviously had a hand in creating the injuries on the shivering chinchou's body. "What a wimp. Stand up for yourself or something! Like I'd have any use for such a weakling." Just before he could issue another attack to the dual-type with a wave of his hand he found his wrist in the iron-clad hold of an irrevocably pissed off Olvia.
"Think before you speak."
The icy undertone of her voice coupled with a hard stare was enough to make the teen's face drain of colour. <Why you!-> His zigzagoon made a move to rush to his trainer's aid but a certain pichu was quick to distract the advancement. Joule's cheeks bristled with static. Despite being the least threatening creature aside from a sobbing chinchou the tiny mouse stood his ground against the normal-type, and those cheeks promised a nasty paralysis if the racoon ventured too close.
However within the time of this little standoff Olvia had already released the boy to cradle circulation back into his limb. "You don't want it then back off. Does picking on it make you feel better about yourself?" she chided with a glare. The chinchou's odd pupils remained teary but the little fish eyed his saviours for a moment before tears instinctively followed once again and blurred his vision. The stubby fins at his side weren't doing such a good job in wiping them away either.
A fight was the last thing he expected. Or a beat up may have been the more appropriate term. The migrations he and his school partook in was something of an excitement to the young angler fish yet in the confusion of a quick evasion from a group of overzealous humans he'd gotten separated and landed himself in this predicament. Truthfully, Chinchou wasn't as weak as he appeared. But years of being under the scrutiny of others was what lead him to undermine his ability and eventually he'd become known among the others as a crybaby.
"Tch! You're crazy. C'mon Zigzagoon we'll find a better one." Olvia cringed at the sensation of her own teeth grinding but it was a better way to control her temper than enactong her own version of a sky-uppercut. "People like that really piss me off..." she fumed. "It's like the races back home all over again." Those times whenever breeders found a blitzle that didn't meet their standards they were well enough sidelined. Not outright neglected of course, the sport was respectable. She just found it unfair to judge so quickly when any of those pokémon had the capacity to be champion zebstrika in their future. But she digressed.
"Now, on to you then." The tone of her voice softened considerably and her pichu had decided to take on his previous perch, little paws gently grasping strands of ginger hair. "Those two won't bother you any more so chin up." Her hand inched closer to wipe one of the tears but soon enough it reappeared. This chinchou was a perpetual sobbing mess. "I don't know where you came from and I honestly can't say that I'll be able to find your family. The swarm's almost over so there's a good chance they're gone." At this the tears flowed harder, Olvia sweat-dropped. "Okay I probably could have worded that better. Um..." The crying pokémon began to babble so incoherently that the researcher felt bad enough thinking it was somehow adorable.
Shaking away the though she cleared her throat and reached into her satchel to retrieve a minimized pokéball. The small paws on her head tightened near painfully when Joule caught sight of the action. "Tsk!" He tongue clicked, chastising the mouse though she didn't need to see him to know there was a very unhappy frown on his face. "Okay how 'bout this," Addressing the dual-type she offered the sphere in the palm of her hand. "You come with me, don't ruin into anymore mean trainers and then we can decide what to do later on, yeah?"
Honestly she expected a little bit of pondering, maybe a suspicious look and some chin tapping. The blue blob running to latch onto her legs the moment he'd caught sight of the little capsule made her fault. "Ah..o-kay I think we're in agreement then?" Chinchou's face was stuffed into the fabric of her jeans but there was a snot-filled <Yeeeeagh..> in there somewhere before she tapped the ball against him and watched him dissipate.
Maybe.
