Waking up in a world surrounded by flames Where everything I liked is about to fade
Word Count - 737 | @mod | NOTES - I can haz the birds? (Also, If modder wants to throw double/group spawns, Das cool) And using for Mudbray and Durant eggs (Scatterbug already has its thread elsewhere, hatch later)
Judas was still grinning as he left the lab, the late afternoon light slanting across the sky as the sun lay on the brink of setting, it's edge just beginning to touch the horizon of Inset. It was hard not looking constantly at his partner, his starter, his... new companion. She was sleeping now upon his shoulder, a small little leafy green owl with her head tucked up against her chest, claws digging lightly into the fabric of shirt. He should remember to find those leather straps, he usually wore them with his coat, the leather running from his belt, then looping over his shoulders and joining before connecting to his belt again, a sort of leather suspenders he often found useful for attaching larger packages and heavy packs to his back. He rarely worried of Archimedes accidentally hurting him or digging her claws into him, she had been trained since she was still fluffy with down to ride his shoulder, and even now her claws were shorter rounder things, but, with the rowlet, the rounded leafy avian had a sharp and impressive set of gripping talons. A trait admired in a hunter and a fighter, but perhaps not as much in his own flesh, though he hardly wanted to discourage her from riding his shoulder.
Even now, walking slowly to not disturb her rest, Judas could feel her claws, gripped unconciously as she held to her perch in sleep, dig into his shoulders. It hurt, somewhat, but not enough that he couldn't ignore it, though he feared it might come to a point where he would have to wake her. Perhaps he should put her in her pokeball... But he had always been distasteful of those to begin with, they reminded him far too much of cages, save even more constraining without even the benefit of bars theough which to see the world through. Cut off in a little tiny pocket space from which only the trainer had means to release from... In a cage at least one could see the world, one could communicate, but with a pokeball it was impossible to tell the slightest of what went on inside until it was opened. He always felt... Paranoid using them, nervous. Like he was trapping his pokemon, he always ended up worrying away about when it was fine to release them, if they were hungry, needed to stretch, wanted something, etc. Though he would never deny they were useful tools and had their purpose, he just never felt quite as at ease as others were with them, tending only to try and use them when necessary or during stretches he knew his pokemon would only be resting and it would be easier for them to be inside then to be carried around with him. Like now...
But Judas didn't want to wake or startle the rowlet by putting her into one while she was still dozing. He could wait... It wasn't worth it to disturb her when she was resting so peacefully. Her claws hurt, but not enough to truly bother him yet.
Glancing to the sky absent mindedly as he carefully tread the simple plain road, Judas' grin faded slowly to a soft satisfied smile, though it quirked more sharply up at the edges when a grey and white bird fluttered around him with a coo before landing again on his shoulders. Archimedes thrummed quietly on his shoulder, a soft feathered head nuzzling and bumping against him in greeting, her wings having been stretched slightly by her short flight once they had left the stifling indoors. Gently, moving slowly for the sake of his sleeping companion, he lifted a hand to rub at her breast with the knuckles of his fingers, a soft hum reverberating from his lips.
A thought, an idea, made its way to Judas' mind as he stroked his older companion. Admittedly it had been there for some time, it was something he quite often did in villages and towns, especially in Cassiopeia when he had chance to visit. He loved spending hours each day doing it, really, and the small town was one of the best places, rife with flying types of all kinds that flocked and thickly populated the streets and especially the main square. "I think..." He murmured, barely a whisper, to his dove companion. "I shall feed the birds. Hmm?" Archimedes cooed in agreement. She liked food.

How could you be the one if you're not the same If in the hands of gods you have lost your way
Word Count - 2685 | Quest | NOTES - Reeeed Robin, yum! shit this was long Judas chuckled, a hushed breath of amusement, at his companion's answer, his response teasingly questioning in its light sarcasm. "I suppose you are a bird too hmm?" Archimedes preened her feathers the briefest of moments, proud, unabashed, fluffing herself out pointedly with a rather blatant coo of < yes, feed me! > It was not a surprising nor unexpected answer, the stubborn and needy little dove often enjoyed making her demands. She was selfish, spoiled perhaps a bit too much by him, raised on doting love and generally given whatever she might demand with little need for pretense. And indeed, who was he to deny his fluffy little dove? He hardly had the heart, inappropriate, nosy, and disobedient she might sometimes be, but she was a loving little bird, and his feathered child, his companion, his partner. He couldn't deny her that easily now, could he?
So there was little to do then but to find an establishment from whence Judas might procure said bird food, and perhaps a seperate treat for his own little feathered friend. Perhaps he might get a second of what he got Archimedes for rowlet as well... Wiith a hum as bootsteps echoed across pathway, he realized he would have to find a name for her. He studied her several moments, gaze turned to the side to observe the owl perched upon his shoulder. She seemed... An Aristotle to him, but he would have to ask her when she awoke. "What do you think Archimedes?" He murmured, out of habit asking his long time companion. Huffing, she shifted her weight side to side, left out of the base of the question as she sometimes was, Judas absent minded and lost in thought as he forgot to mention his idea before questioning it's validity. she waited for him to present the idea, then when she received nothing, finally prompted < think of what, > her voice annoyed. A wince, apology even as chagrined smile spread. "Rowlet... She seems perhaps... An Aristotle."Archimedes shrugged, though Judas was still watching the sleeping rowlet rather then her. < sure > she responded, uninvolved. < another weird dead person name, why not? > Judas frowned, his blue gaze finally shifting to her. He liked his ancient philosophers. Archimedes wasn't even sure how he decided whom the rowlet seemed more like, but as far as she was concerned, it was his thing and didn't really matter. And, realizing perhaps her lack of care one way or the other, Judas sighed, letting it pass.Besides, Judas had bird feed and treats to buy. A bakery, passing on his right, he paused only briefly before turning towards it, the door ringing with the pleasant tinkle of a bell as he entered. A smile, a few words, and an exchanging money later, and he found himself with two cookies, soft from the oven as steam wafted from their warm gooey bodies. Wrapping on in a knapkin for later, the other one he broke off a third of, certainly a large enough first piece for even a greedy and gluttonous little dove, offering it up to her as she eagerly began pecking away at it, crumbs showering as she gorged herself on the sweet chocolate chips.Judas has barely begun to walk again—winding through the streets towards the middle of the town and the main square with it's great mighty statues and it's rows of small vendors ringing the outskirts while fountains and birds dominated the center—breaking another piece from the large cookie for his companion, Archimedes already scarfing down the last of the first piece and greedily eyeing the rest, when a dart of red flicked from a nearby rooftop, pale wings snapping open to make a quick swoop, dipping down with talons outstretched to rake at Archimedes as it tackled into her and clawed the chunk of cookie just given to her away before rising again and circling around, a blur, so quick and small as this avian was.First reactions were startled, Judas flinched back from the sudden movement right before his face with a gasp, a silent sharp intake of breath, jerking away, and Archimedes screeched in pain and shock, upset by the loss of her cookie even as she struggled wildly with flailing wings and the sharp prick of claws to keep her balance. Once she had opportunity she was sharply searching for the culprit, her gaze fixing on him as he settled on the low edge of a roof again, gulping down his prize. Her food! Yet she was ruffled, the unexpected shoulder check hitting the soft dove hard and leaving her panting, one wing held partially out still, bruised, aching, only just not dislocated. It was the luck of Judas flinching back at the same time as she fell in that direction that kept her from falling at all.Unfortunately, rowlet, startled into waking in alarm, was not as well prepared, and her method of not tumbling away was to dig her claws in, hard, while she flailed. A wince, Judas tucking into himself slightly as she found her balance, a hiss of pain before she had chance to find her balance and relax, apology painstaking on her distraught features. < Are.. Are you alright? > She hooted, sleepiness gone but disorientation of waking clouding her. "Fine" Came his quiet reply several moments later, strained slightly, his shoulder still stinging in several small but acutely sharp dagger points of pain. Her gaze swung around, worried, confused, trying to piece together what happened even as she looked over the pidove with concern, the dove clearly distressed and in pain. It was Archimedes angry cooing that gave her clue to look for the bird at fault, finding the robin even as Archimedes continued muttering, indecipherable curses and occasional bits of furious clarity. < Was mine! Thief! Assault! Get your own cookie! >Even over the tirade of angry dove noises however, the fletchling seemed impassive, merely glancing at Archimedes before finishing scarfing his stolen prize, ignoring her completely. Spreading his wings as he finished, he took flight, circling in sharp agile circle around the trio before landing nearby on a newspaper box, his dark gaze spiteful as he glared at the pidove. < Should have guarded it better then. > Was his cool reply, his glance lingering more on Judas then her, a dull anger burning there in the smal bird's gaze, challenging, cold, resentful. The man backed up a step, uncertain, hesitant. Wh-what had he done? Why was it glaring at him? "Err..." He stalled, uncertain how to deal with it. If it was out in the wild he might have quickly assumed he was trespassing or otherwise invading, pokemon tended to behave certain understandable ways, but this was the middle of a vilkage where many pokemon and people passed all the time.. He didn't think he had done anything that might have been offensive...? He certainly wasn't trying to act aggressive... Absent mindedly trying to calm Archimedes down worriedly, he grimaced, realizing it must then be because of her, though he could hardly help her angry raving. Nor the disturbing fact of the matter that the little red bird had been the one to attack without provocation, though perhaps not without reason entirely. After all, it had gone for... The cookie.Licking his lips nervously, Judas tried to reach up to stroke Archimedes, murmuring quiet comforts, a concerned glance flicking from the fletchling to pidove a moment as she continued cooing angrily. "Hey hey, shhshhh, it's alright, you'll be fine... You're okay right?" He didn't get an answer, nor a chance to examine her, with a flutter of feathers Archimedes took flight, the avian making a beeline to land beside the offending bird, hopping on the box until she was chest to chest with him, glaring beak to beak, eye to eye, though the fletchling remained controlled as he watched her carefully. "—!!" Was all Judas managed, a noise choked off and startled, then his expression was alarmed as he watched her, chasing a step after. Sharp azure eyes couldn't help but notice a clumsy landing, one wing having trouble keeping time and flying with the other, the pidove barely making it to the box at all even as she stubbornly faced off the other bird.Rowlet at least was right behind her, the owl taking from his shoulder to land behind the pidove, the grass type cautiously watching over her, wings half spread behind the dove to steady her, head tilted to watch the injured bird carefully. Irritation was clear on the fletchling, his chest puffing up in defiance as he spread his own wings, attempting to glare down on the pidove though the two were evenly matched in size, his lean body actually lighter then hers. < Excuse you > He growled. Puffing herself up as well, bold even despite already having taken quite the blow from the other bird, Archimedes narrowed her eyes angrily. < Excuse you! Attacking! Stealing! > She pressed forward, against him, uncaring apparently of his growing growling. He snapped, remaining cool even as he retaliated with a sneer, flapping his wings. < So what. You're just some fluffy little pidove pet, pampered by that hulking thing you call a trainer. How you find such disgusting creatures as humans fine company is beyond me, but they are careless clumsy creatures and you a spoiled pidove gone soft from hand feeding without work or effort. Who cares if I take from you? I have to eat, so I took my food rather then willingly awaiting it from another. > Irate, Archimedes fanned open her own wings, wincing as the bruised one sent a twinge of pain blazing down its length. < Took from weaker bird hmm? Easy target hmm? Not really a hunter, not even a pet, just scavenger! Make murkrow look dignified, puffed up ratty feathered flying rodent! >Hands clamped swiftly, and very carefully over Archimedes, rowlet pulling her wings back at the last moment as Judas secured his companion, folding her wings to her side and holding her tenderly but firmly, a snug grip, apology in his worried expression. "Archimedes, calm down, please... I'm sorry..." It was a bit uncertain to whom his apology was for, his companion as she squawked at him angrily and writhed several moments before claming enough that he could lift her and hold her against him, or the fletchling, dark gaze watching him through half-lidded eyes as the robin hopped a step forward in the emptied space, wings beating a few times before half folding. < You're one to talk while your kin root in the trash and gutters, more dirty and overpopulated then rattata themselves > He coolly retorted, almost in a manner to assume he was uninterested or trying to argue with someone far beneath him. A sharp glance, azure eyes watching the fletchling behind glass frames now, a grimace on pained features. "D-hha—" A biginning of a word, then a sigh, frustrated slightly. Archimedes cooed in protest, clearly ready to get at the robin again even as pale wingers wound tighter into her feathers. "Both of you, please, stop. Look... Please, don't fight, I don't want anyone getting hurt. I..." A careful look at fletchling with a brief purposeful glance at Archimedes, pinned between his hands. "I understand you could..." A wince, then a correction. "Can.... Likely with ease, defeat my companion, but..." A groan, none of it was coming out right.. "Please, there is no... No reason. You didn't need to attack, and, while I apologize if we have somehow offended you, that was a poor action. Look..." What was he even saying? He paused, giving up a moment as the fletchling stared blankly. "You... You wanted food right? That's why you attacked? Here..." Carefuly, shifting Archimedes not to lose hold of her as he pressed her against his chest with one hand, and with the other pressed in on the knapkin it still held, breaking the cookie within into two. Setting it on the newspaper box, he unravelled it, the fletchling hopping around him and it in investigation, suspicious, it's wings flapping every few hops even as it made sure not to venture near the rowlet, her gaze watchful as she shuffled slightly, feeling weariness creep in again but decidedly awake for the time.
Glancing at rowlet, Judas gestured towards the cookie, shifting half towards her, and then the other half he began to offer the fletchling. The bird beat him to it, pecking at his fingers visciously and then taking it's half while he drew his hand back with a yelp, bewildered. In a moment the rowlet had moved, surprisingly swift for her small stubby stature, leaves stricking the fletchling as she charged into him, pinning him carefully, smaller then him but her on set of claws trained to his throat while the other foot pinned his wing awkwardly down. He growled, trying to struggle free, alarmed and caught off guard, and she growled in return. < He offered you food, don't hurt him for his kindness > The robin tried to wriggle still, his gaze baleful, then finally, settled and calmed, returning to his cold and controlled demeanor. < Fine. get off already. > The leaves hadn't hurt much, but the tackle had done him no favors, and that rowlet was far too fast and skilled for him. He wasn't sure what she had, she had barely even seemed to touch him before he was pinned, and the way she moved was... Off. Too precise. It made him uncomfortable, she was no soft pet.
Ruffling his feathers irritably, the fletchling glared at rowlet before turning his gaze to Judas, the man surprised and startled by the last several moments, hesitant and silent in loss of way to interact, by the time he might have thought to call rowlet off she already had released the fletchling, seeming to eye the bird carefully as it stretched out it's wing, almost as though... Checking to make sure it was fine still. "Err..." He finally managed to begin as dark eyes returned to him. "Are you alright?" A moment of silnce, then finally, a quiet. < Yeah. Whatever. > Judas found himself relaxing, finally releasing his captive companion who fluttered shakily to his shoulder, calmed immensely by her several moments of being held. Cautiously, the fletchling began to approach it's half of the cookie again, small numerous hops as it warily watched human and rowlet with sharp gaze. "Ahh... G-go ahead. It's still yours..." A distrustful look, dark still, but finally the little robin tucked into it, pecking away at the rest of the sweet treat. The rowlet still bothered fletchling, the thing she had just done, but he wasn't going to turn down a meal. He wasn't eating from Judas' hand, just... Taking food where he could get it. Which often was scavenging human extras, those wasteful stupid creatures, but...
A glance, at Judas, from the bird as he finished, preening ruffled feathers. A weak smile from the man, nervous, scared a bit of him now. The rowlet shuffled closer, a discussion, then with almost reluctance the bird was returned to a pokeball, yawning. Turning away, hesitant, the man started to go, making to continue their path, with cautious glances back at him. They didn't trust him, weren't sure what to make of him. Fearing a little bird? Hmph. Ruffling his feathers with a shake, he narrowed his eyes in consideration. Then he took flight, darting up into the air, then with a wide sweep following after the man to land roughly on their head, claws digging into short ebony hair as the man winced, a noise of alarm and surprise leaving them. < shut up > He snapped. Confusion crossed the man's features, a hand starting to reach for their scalp dropping away, bewildered. He didn't bother explaining, and eventually, after a few attempts to say something and failing, the man started walking. The dove was giving him a sharp look, which he returned.

How ever fast I dance to make the sun shine I will never fall down
Word Count - 1,109 | Quest | NOTES - how to take 5ever to respond Starly mahbe pls? Or any birb is fine... or a kitty/puppy Archimedes had been all too happy to show the taillow newly met how to perch on Judas' shoulders as he fed them a few more seeds and gently began trying to scoop them up and separate the two, if only for a moment so he could continue his path and find a bench for them to settle down on. It took a moment for the sapphire bird to understand and go along, but seeing Archimedes resting comfortably on his shoulder as he crouched before her seemed to help, easily finding his other shoulder and adjusting herself as he stood carefully, allowing her to adjust. To his surprise, a few moments later, talons found his hair, his original visitor back to glare at the taillow. Noticing the fletchling, she sang a few bars of greeting cheerily, and narrowing his eyes, he chirped something under his breath, shuffling his feathers as though in warning, one which went more or less ignored. Hesitantly continuing his pace, Judas glanced out across the pavement again for a brief moment, scanning the square ahead.
Trying not to wince as he walked, Judas couldn't help however but also frequently cast glances up towards the bird that perched upon his head now, azure eyes uncertainly awkwardly to watch the small robin through the strands of his stray lock of bang hair, his scalp tingling in pain as small claws dug into it, pulling at his hair in tiny talon fulls. His gaze slid sideways to Archimedes often as well, his pace slightly uneven with the pain and distraction of his newest.... companion as he tried to make sure the pidove was still alright and not about to start a fight again with the fletchling. He didn't trust the fletchling not to just maul the weaker gentler bird, and even if he brought rowlet out, that didn't necessarily solve anything, nor prevent any damage already done. Besides... it wasn't rowlet's job just to handle troublemakers, she was his companion, not his servant, and he was reluctant to call her out and wake her again. She deserved her rest.
A slight frown on his features, Judas was just turning his attention forward as footsteps brought him close to the main square of the town, head turning slightly, carefully as he was acutely aware of his second passenger, to scout out the area and look for a good place to settle for a while, when he stumbled unexpectedly. Something of not a small size and spherical in shape caught under his boot, jammed between the ground and him, and already shifting his weight with not enough time to reverse, he lost his balance entirely, falling backwards in a startled shriek and puff of feathers, Archimedes bursting off his shoulder and the fletchling and taillow took wing even as his back hit the cobblestones, only a last minute partial catch of himself on arm preventing his head from likewise cracking against the stone. A gasp of pain, then a groan as his eyes squeezed shut in a wince.
Wings fluttered, Archimedes alighting beside his head with the taillow uncertainly landing beside her as Judas shook it, trying to clear his daze and shake off the pain. 'Wh-what...?" He murmured groggily, drawing his elbows up higher to push himself upright. < okay? > the pidove at his side cooed questioningly, and weakly he nodded, his gaze flicking up a moment to notice the fletchling, circling just above watching him in silent contempt. Staggering to his feet, he noticed the object at the cause of his clumsiness, a red and white orb rocking slightly still where it had rolled out from under him and knocked into two others of the same making. "...?" Question furrowed his brows, and approaching the pokeballs lain abandoned on the pavement, Judas glanced around in confusion, trying to locate a likely owner as he stooped to pick them up, hissing as his abused back protested. Stretching and twisting until it popped, he breathed a sigh of relief as the ache lessened, though mild pain washed through his left arm where he had caught himself, and a fading stinging sensation of impact tickled over his shoulders. It didn't feel worrying though, and far as he could deduce he had no injuries from the fall, but still....
Who would just leave pokeballs on the ground? Shaking his head, he squinted slightly as with one hand he fixed his askew glasses, azure eyes flickering across the square and the road behind him, though no one seemed a likely owner for the objects, and looking at them again with a frown, he rubbed his thumb along the smooth edge of one. Archimedes fluttered clumsily up from the ground to land on his shoulder, a quick worried glance shot to her as she awkwardly landed and gingerly folded her wings, taillow taking his opposite shoulder while he was distracted, though her dark gaze was on the pokeballs. < where those? What wrong? > Her coo was rife with innocent question, her head tilting even as he looked at his own hands as well. "They were just on the ground..." He drifted off, and with an impatient thrum, Archimedes hunched herself down on her perch. < then keep > Frowning at the blunt suggestion, he glanced around once more, still to no avail, before reluctant putting away the pokeballs in his own bag, moving sluggishly at first towards the bench he had spotted early, eyes blinking as he cleaned his glasses while he walked.
The fletchling alighted on the bench first, the little robin pokemon putting itself on the far edge or the backrest. Judas sank into the bench, carefully and gently placing his bags beside them, panicking a moment as he remembered their contents, carefully and tenderly checking the eggs inside thoroughly for any signs of damage, though it seemed the thick woolen blanket he had padded them in had kept the hard shells safe. The worry that creased his features eased away a bit, and removing the package of birdseed he had purchased earlier as well, he felt the familiar act begin to take over and make him feel at ease, the seal of the package easily being broken as he made a hole in the top corner, reaching his hand in to scoop a shallow handful of seeds out. Glancing across at the birds spread across the clearing, he threw out a thin arcing spray first to attract the attention of the closer ones to the idea of food before scattering some only a short ways away to watch them flock to the free meal in a mess of feathers and chirps.
