 MIKE SOMMER twenty-five . trainer . water specialist [PTabbedContent] [PTab= JOURNAL] Mike's life didn't get off the smoothest of starts. His single mother distant, he grew up on television and learned to break things early on if he wanted attention. Avery Callihan, a bright part in his life and only real friend, made school bearable. He bought a houndour pup from a street-corner salesman, and loved her fiercely. Things went to shit a while after that, though, and both good things Mike could claim as his left him. Mike torched a warehouse, went to jail, got out, got a job... It was monotonous, for all Mike was putting effort into healing. When Avery came back from college, they made up, and with someone around to give him that extra push, Mike decided it was time: he was going to try being a trainer again. He headed to the ranger station, where he met Kickstart: his second first pokemon. They met up with Avery at the lake after, where Mike adopted a few new friends onto his team... Young and utterly inexperienced, Kickstart tends to talk the talk better than he can walk the walk. When Mike found him, he was fresh out of the nursery -- he holds trainer-kept pokemon in high esteem, and wants more than anything to grow and become strong. As inexperienced (and occasionally clumsy) as he is, Kickstart is always willing to try his best. Already encouraged by Mike's go-getting attitude, he's feeling brave and ready to take on anything. He considers his introduction to Mike his first-ever battle, and seeing how effective he was against the human informs some of the choices he still makes today. Having problems? Tackle them! Nervous? ... Tackle something else!Full of fervent, over-eager energy, Kickstart finds himself stumbling often. He's young and unsteady on his paws, and rushes into things too whole-heartedly. With guidance, perhaps Mike can find the patient side to Kickstart and help lead him down the road to becoming a top-tier fighter.

Dr Pepper -- 'Doc' -- was a bit of a drifter before settling on the Inset region. He liked to roam and wander as far as he could when given the chance, and has seen a lot of the big sites. (Johto was one of his favorite regions to visit, and someday he hopes he can go back.) Lately, he's been more tired and wants to rest -- not quite settle down, but traveling from region to region is starting to tire him.
Doc still likes to travel and see the sights, sure, but he nowadays it doesn't hold the same charm it used to. He's quiet about it, but the reason he likes to travel so much is that he used to be really lonely. He still is on a bad day. Doc is a relatively mellow pokemon and likes to keep to himself, but, deep down, what really drives him? Finding a place where he belongs.
He hopes, maybe, impossibly, that he's found that with Mike and his team. He doesn't exactly expect to be best of friends with any of them, but he can appreciate Mike's enthusiasm and willingness to initiate. Maybe he can ride the coattails of Mike's personality to something better for himself. At the very least, Doc figures this leg of his journey will be an interesting one.

Gin had a rather nasty case of exophthalmia in the left eye, due to a harsh battle with a Skrelp. The bacterial part of the disease has been cured, but the swelling will not go down due to complications during treatment, and the eyes is permanently clouded. Gin is totally blind in its left eye and has trouble with depth perception -- which inhibits swimming and makes training a challenge.This little guy is quite the scrapper despite his injuries. Gin is filled with salt and vinegar, to the point that he was separated into his own tank at the adoption agency. He's always raring for a fight but doesn't seem to be particularly vicious. He usually keeps to "friendly" sparring, but his diligence has gotten him into (obvious) trouble... and likely will again. Although disabled, he left the adoption agency with high hopes from the staff -- given the right trainer and a firm hand, he could become an excellent battling pokemon. (The trick, of course, will be to get him to stop attacking every other pokemon on sight...) Mike was overjoyed at Gin's fighting spirit, and couldn't help but bring him onto the team after a bit of window shopping. Gin's need to fight everything that moves has clashed with Kickstart's own childish aggression, and the two go at each other whenever released at the same time.
