[attr="class","rostercat2"] Sev, for the most part, is a mild, mellow individual. On most days, the first adjective one would toss his way is “laid-back”. At a glance, he seems almost boring in how calm and quiet he is. It’s rare for him to cause much of a stir during his everyday antics. If anything, he steps back to observe, rather than pushing himself to be the center of attention. As a result, he works especially well with people who are able to take the center stage. He’s calm even during times of high stress. In an emergency, Sev is someone you want to have at your back. The flat affect he possesses almost seems inhuman. The range of emotions he feels is as varied as anyone’s, but his emotional intensity tends to be less than the average person’s, save for in extreme circumstances. It’s difficult to get him emotionally invested in most things enough to actively care, and, as a result, he can be called lazy sometimes. It isn’t that he tries to underachieve, but, if something doesn’t capture his interest, he can’t be assed to devote his time and efforts to the task. As such, there’s a fine, fine line that splits what Sev cares about and what he doesn’t care about. The dulled emotional capacity serves as both a blessing and a detriment. Sev isn’t prone to bursts of anger or extreme agitation, which saves him in regards to stress. However, he also isn’t prone to the happier emotions, such as joy and excitement, which lends itself to a dull existence. Long-term, more level emotions such as sadness affect him just as much as any other person, if not more. If nothing else, sadness clings to Sev stubbornly. He might not outwardly express it, but depressing thoughts and self-consciousness always seem to be weighing down his mind. This is expressed in his music, as he lacks the means to express it in most other mediums. He’s not terribly social, and takes small pleasure in low-energy tasks such as reading a book or simply sitting on a couch with somebody and watching a TV show. Save for a few settings and activities, he greatly prefers relaxing, even if it allows the previously mentioned emotions to fester and linger in his mind. The few passions that Sev does have change him entirely. When experiencing the thrill and feeling that comes with one of these passions, he becomes very active and vocal. It’s one of the few experiences where he feels strong bursts of emotion and high levels of energy, be it positive or negative. One could almost label these bursts of energy as manic in nature, as they come in waves, often lasting for a couple of weeks and inspiring action and mobility that Sev otherwise lacks. His passions include Pokemon and music, as well as a certain ghost from his past. The young man can’t experience the last of these passions anymore, but Pokemon and music are still very near and dear to his heart, and have motivated him to push onwards in his search for purpose. His folk inclinations have added a sort of activism to his musical conquest. He isn’t sure what he wants his music to stand for, or what good he wants to create in the world through music and Pokemon, but he’s actively trying to figure it out, even as he goes along. The one thing that frightens him is having no purpose, and he hopes to rectify that, thinking that it might possibly help with a couple of other things as well, such as the underlying feelings of sadness in his mind. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]PERSONALITY | [attr="class","rostercat2"] If you ask the former punk drummer, Sev’s childhood was largely boring and unimportant until his teenage years. He wasn’t the victim of any sort of particular abuse or tragedy, and his parents weren’t particularly prestigious – in fact, they seemed as ordinary as parents could be, with his father staying at home and working on writing articles for the local newspaper, and his mother working at a local Pokemon grooming shop. Their little town in the Kalos Region was small and unassuming, and rarely even depicted upon a map. The people there tended to keep to themselves, but were friendly enough to each other if approached. As an only child, Sev grew up with both parents present to offer attention and influence. He was a quiet child who wasn’t so much shy as he was introverted. He was perfectly fine with reading a book or playing with one of the local Pokemon instead of engaging in the wild, rough play that his peers preferred. He found himself connecting with the local Pokemon more than with the other children, and wound up befriending many strays in his youth, which often wound up staying at his home until some more permanent place was found for them. Helping lost or uncertain Pokemon was the single thing Sev put great effort into during an otherwise lazy phase in his childhood. It was easy enough for him to get decent grades and keep himself out of trouble in school, as he rarely talked enough to draw attention to himself. His general, passive nature only made the activism surrounding Pokemon stranger. His parents found his interests quite curious, but they were glad that their son had found some healthy outlet to be involved in. There were many, many worse things that Courtney could have been doing with his life. His lackadaisical youth wouldn’t last forever; the breeding shop Courtney’s mother was associated with expanded, and his mother was offered the chance to work as the manager of the newly-opened shop. The only condition was that the entire family had to move to the Johto Region, in Goldenrod City no less. The large, populated city was a drastic change from their simple, small-town lifestyle, but after careful discussion, they moved when Sev was just exiting middle school. At such a tumultuous, hormonal stage of his life, the change in scenery would spark much greater changes, with the catalyst being one teenage boy in particular: Xyran Brymer. Sev’s quiet, boring lifestyle was uprooted almost all at once. Everything that he wasn’t, Xy Brymer happened to be. Xy was his senior by only a year or two, though he was still in the same grade (mostly due to slacking off and lack of attendance). The wilder teen had already begun a fledgling band, and was reaching out to any and all who might have been interested in the musical scene. He pulled Sev along despite there being very little musical knowledge in Sev’s head. Curious by this loud, boisterous individual, Sev found himself auditioning for the hell of it. He found that he was capable of capturing and creating a steady rhythm well; in fact, drumsticks in his hand felt more natural than anything else he’d done before in his life. As he realized the innate talent he possessed, two loves were born. Firstly, Sev discovered that music inspired feelings within him that he had never encountered before. Music opened his eyes to how the world truly was. And then there was Xy, his anti-thesis in every way. Opposites might attract, but what struck Sev at that point was more than mere attraction. For whatever reason, he fell completely, head-over heels in love with the wannabe rockstar. To call Xy a bad influence was an understatement. He electrified Sev’s life and introduced him to everything from the latest drug crazes to the crazy stage antics their band (selfishly named Xyran and the Earthlings) became well-known for. True to Sev’s rather laid-back nature, he didn’t dive whole-heartedly into the live-by-the-day, indulgent lifestyle of his bandmates. Save for the occasional alcohol-filled night, Sev avoided most of the wilder substances the band experimented with, opting to focus more heavily upon the music. He was the only one who seemed to want to perform with a purpose; the band’s songs fell into a punk metal genre, but the impact behind the lyrics and significance was non-existent. It was noise and rebellion purely for the sake of noise and rebellion, and, had he not been so infatuated with the band leader, Sev would have discovered his discontent with the band much earlier. He was persuaded to do almost anything at least once with Xy, and eventually caved into experimenting with a stronger drug for once in his life. The resulting incident involving two doped-up teenagers and a lawn mower sent Sev to the hospital minus three fingers, earning him his trademark nickname. The incident was almost certainly Xy’s fault, and, for the first time, Sev got a little pissed off, even if his anger only lasted for a couple of weeks. Xy did stupid things on an almost daily basis. Holding a grudge seemed silly at the time. As they grew older, the band began to suffer differences of opinion. Sev found himself unhappy with the meaning of the songs they put out, feeling inspired to change things and engage in activism like he had when he was younger. He put more emphasis on the music than on wild nights, and found himself at odds with everyone, including Xy. He wasn’t the only one casting divides between the members of the band, however. Xy’s arrogance and selfish, self-centered nature created deeper rifts, and wound up causing the other two members of the band to depart shortly after their high school graduation. Sev stuck around, even if he was unhappy, and even as Xy shifted to indulge in more hazardous behavior. Sev rarely drank during their night outs, but found that Xy tended to lavish attention and affection upon him only while he was intoxicated. The realization that his feelings were only returned while the lead singer and guitarist was under the influence of any type of substance hit Sev hard, as Xy tended to outright ignore the obvious signs of Sev’s feelings outside of that setting. He was more than content to whisper sweet nothings into the drummer’s ear while they were at a party together, but he would turn around and whisper the same to countless others within the span of ten minutes. Xy wasn’t interested in any sort of long-term relationship (though he assured Sev that, if he was, he’d be his first pick, which didn’t help Sev’s torrent of feelings at all). Their ideals on everything, including the band, were different. Sev found himself worrying about Xy and his habits, and eventually came to the conclusion that, if Xy didn’t change, he was out. Upon confronting Xy, Sev left the band almost immediately. He wandered and tried to find some semblance of purpose for a year or two, not interested in pursuing higher education. In his travels, he sought to musically educate himself, as music was one of only three things (music, Pokemon, and Xy) that had made him feel that fiery passion he craved. He found himself drawn to genres that focused upon lyric and meaning as opposed to sound, which was the exact inverse of the music the band had played. Folk music was a far more considerate partner to Sev than punk music had been, but the two were not mutually exclusive. Sev found that he was able to combine the two into a mostly-cohesive subgenre that had the aesthetic he liked while also offering actual meaning and purpose to the music. He dabbled in many instruments, and found that he had the same knack for picking up some of them (namely the guitar and other stringed instruments) that he’d had with the drum. He began his own solo, on-the-road project when he turned twenty, traveling and playing and just attempting to find himself and something to fight for. He still hasn’t found anything in particular, though his interests turned towards Pokemon once again. The connection between Pokemon and music was one that Sev hadn’t made, and it sent him in a new direction yet again. Like folk and punk, maybe Pokemon and music weren’t mutually exclusive. Maybe he could combine two interests that had persisted through his life, and somehow gain some greater meaning out of that. To accomplish such a task, starting a true Pokemon journey seemed like as good a plan as any. He found himself moving to a relatively obscure, unknown The journey was open and uncertain, but Sev was hoping to find some sort of meaning or inspiration along the way.
