Little black submarines Operator please Word Count - 835 | @tag | NOTES - aaand sweet Judas, way too lost in thought. Could summarize this all as man walks into lab :u Judas rapped lightly upon the door of the lab, shaking his head as he recalled earlier events within the small village. He was here now at last though, for the longest time he hadn't even been certain if he would actually pull through enough to come. Afterall... He didn't really need to become a trainer. He didn't really plan on it, especially not on getting to far along with it. So why was he bothering to go out hereβthough admittedly Cassiopeia was only really a short walk from Ara which he visited constantly anywaysβto see if it was possible for him to request a starter? He didn't need one. There was no call for a pokΓ©mon in his work, and while perhaps a trained canine companion or a pokΓ©mon with the knowledge of several group and non-self healing and recovery moves would be of some assistance, much time there was little most pokΓ©mon could do to help that couldn't be easier on his own. And he was hardly lacking in companionship, at least not in terms of creature comforts, he took in many pokΓ©mon and cared for them, even if only in temporary shifts between homes or during recovery.
Perhaps he was merely searching for an excuse to explain his want of more permanence Judas considered as he subconciously moved to fix his tie before his hand drifted towards the door's handle. Of to not have to see every bright wonderful companion he spends time getting to know and trust enough that they are comfortable with him only to then move on to another after him or vanish back into the wilderness where they belong when they are well enough once more. "Yet I have you do I not?" He murmured softly with a smile, the little bird perched atop his shoulder cocking her head to look at him with a warm 'coo.' Gently opening the door to the laboratory building, he let a hand reach up, two knuckles brushing at her chest and carressing her cheeks tenderly. He would always have Archimedes. And she was the best companion he could ask for, for all her faults she loved him, and he her. And there was the rest of the bird's in his old homeplace still living with his parents, they were always there, and many were quite familiar to him. All he had to do was visit and he would have them.
So perhaps it was something more then merely a permanent companion Judas mused as azure eyes glanced around the lab with a smile for whomever should be there to greet him, if anyone was present in the entry room at all, his gaze distracted with his thoughts. Yet there had to be some reason behind this urge, this flight of fancy that led him here. Otherwise why had he be drawn at all? Was it a buried childhood wish, the wish and dream so many had, of going out on a PokΓ©mon adventure across the land? Certainly the sight of many young hopefuls around the rest of the villageβeither soon to visit for their first pokΓ©mon or ecstatic with one in tow already as they celebrated or raced out to the first route to instantly put their new companions to the testβbrought a good mood and a feeling of satisfaction and joy to him. Such thoughts hadn't really concerned him terribly as a child, he had thought of a pokΓ©mon journey a few times surely, but the idea of making his friends fight other pokΓ©mon just for the sake of a trophy held little appeal to him, then or now. He certainly wasn't here out of a burning drive to conquer the gym leaders and try to become champion, he had plenty in his life already and little taste for so much aggression and fighting.
But there was always something more to that dream then just becoming champion wasn't there? More to it then collecting gym badges and defeating rivals. More then being the best. Maybe it was the idea of a journey that attracted him, that nagged him, that whispered to him and teased him to come and... Try training a pokΓ©mon. Not just training his little dove how to carry messages and behave herself, but to... Actually train another pokΓ©mon. The image of being on a path, of taking a fresh start to travel the region, meet and see others. To make lifelong companions and find unexpected things.
Judas usually was not the most fond of surprises or adventure. He liked things simple, organized, neat, he liked plans, keeping schedules. Not out of incessant need for control, just because no surprises meant little went wrong. And his work instilled a firm dislike for anything bordering on dangerous, too often normal life had perils enough without looking for more. But perhaps that was really why he was here. To try something else. Something different. To, in a sense, take a break from it all and relive something he never did before.

It was rare to see anyone that already had a Pokemon to come into the lab. It was rare enough in fact that Mirae hadn't actually seen it in her time working solo. She'd heard about people having companion Pokemon before but it seemed strange to want to get another one if they'd already had a Pokemon they brought with them. The qualifications for getting a Pokemon were basic of course but they were supposed to make sure that people who already had Pokemon were really here for a Pokemon to battle and grow with. The last thing they needed was someone just snatching up a bunch of Pokemon.
"Good morning and welcome to the Cassiopeia Lab!" She needed to still do her job though. For all she knew they weren't even here for a Pokemon at all. Maybe they had other business to attend to. "Can I help you with something?" With a warm smile she stood up and made sure that she looked presentable. The small Pokemon was cute, a Pidove she was pretty sure? It was a very common Pokemon and it was nice to see that someone had chosen to care for one. The more common a Pokemon was the less likely that they would be taken in by a human. It was sad really... do you know what the scariest thing is?

Put me back on the line Told my girl I'd be back Word Count - 689 | πΊ inari πΊ | NOTES - everyone should have tiny birb Judas blinked as a voice reached his ears, clouded and thoughtful azure eyes coming back to focus as they flicked towards the woman who welcomed and greeted him, inclining his head slightly towards them as he returned her greeting. "Good day to you as well Madame." The words came smooth, easy, instinctual pleasantries though he said them with a sincereness all the same, a smile returning her own as it spread gently over stark features. His gaze flicked over her, briefly merely to identify whom he was given the pleasure of meeting, though his companion twisted her head with a soft 'coo' to fix the woman with wide unblinking golden eyes, seeming to stare several moments in deep inspection. Judas offered a hand, loosely to try not to make her feel obligated to take it, more an offer then anything as he offered introduction forth. "Iskariot. Judas Iskariot, it's a pleasure to meet you." There was a slowness, a carefulness, one could almost say a hesitation to the way he spoke, his words heavy in the hint of accent though his tone was lighter and his pitch soft, taking to the quiet side. He seemed almost to consider each word before he spoke them, easy and friendly in opening yet seeming almost slightly reserved, slightly uncertain, or perhaps merely concious of what he said.
Archimedes took Judas' extension of his arm as reason, or merely excuse, to take flight suddenly, a grimace crossing the man's features as he reached far to late to try and prevent or dissuade her from such action. With a flutter of feathers, the grey dove had spread her wings and circled the woman before landing on the edge of the desk from where they had risen, tilting her head to eye the woman critically andβif they were still close enough to the deskβpeck at their clothing in appraisal. Cooing again, her chest thrumming with purr this time, Archimedes seemed to note her approval with an affirmative chirp < pretty! > She chimed, her head bobbing slightly as she tilted it drastically to look up and down the entire length of the other female before settling looking up at the woman's face. < very nice crest, such bold colors must attract many mates! >
Coloring at the commentary of his avian companion, Judas was quick to apologize and attempt to regain his pokΓ©mon and keep her from further harrassing the woman with unnecessary embarrassment and rudeness, his own features beginning to taint red as he experienced a sudden difficulty making eye contact, instead focusing his gaze on Archimedes with flickers back towards the woman here and there. "Archimedes, no! I'm so sorry, Archimedes! W-we don'tβyou d-don't say th-things like that to strangers in public! Come back now, d-don't bother the lady, please? Come on..." He stumbled slightly in his reprimand of his feathered companion, falling to begging as he extended an arm out higher towards the flying type, his features twisted in anxiety and pleading. Cocking her head at him, her golden eyes blinked, and she lifted her wings to fly to his proffered hand, settling on his hand for a brief moment before taking off again, this time attempting land on the woman's brightly colored head gently and roost herself in there. "Archimedes!" Judas called sharply, though the pidove seemed to pay him little mind.
Judas sighed, a distressed and frustrated noise just shy of a groan. "I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have brought her... She seems to like you if it means anything? I apologize madame, she's really quite a tame and pleasant bird, she just likes being a handful...." Wincing, he tried to approach, his hands out to try and gather up his companionβwhether she was atop the woman's head or if her target had panicked or otherwise convinced her instead to land back on the edge of the tabelβthe normal type eyeing his hands through half-closed lids. "I, ahh... I just meant to come here to look for a starter, I didn't mean to let Archimedes cause such a problem... She's a sweet bird really, I'm sorry she's being like this..."

At least they seemed like rather delightful people. Which was more than she could say for some of the people that came in and out of here. It was obvious that the bird was well cared for as well. "My name is Mirae. It's wonderful to meet you." She was going to take his hand but the sudden flight of the bird distracted her momentarily. With a small laugh she didn't mind that the bird perched on her. After all she was only being friendly. It wasn't as though the Pidove had attacked or anything. And she had a wonderfully colorful personality it seemed as well. "Oh, well thank you very much. You're very sweet." Gently she lifted her hand for the bird to perch on if she so chose. "We see all types of Pokemon in the lab so she's no trouble at all."
And then here came the part of him asking for a starter Pokemon. They were a bit more strict when it came to someone getting a Pokemon when they already had one. But the Pidove seemed to be well taken care of and not really that strong. Or rather so strong that they should worry about someone just being here to double dip. "Well, normally we're supposed to turn people away at the door if they've already got a Pokemon with them. But I feel like I can trust you enough with one of our lab Pokemon even with your lovely bird." Careful not to disturb the bird on her head too much she moved to the locked cabinet and opened it.
"There's a clipboard with paperwork on the coffee table if you'd care to fill it out for me?" It was easier that way than going to hand him the clipboard while she was already digging. Making a small pleased sound whenever she found who she was looking for and grabbed the Pokeballs. She would start him out with two options for now and if neither of them suited she would bring out a third. But she was pretty sure that these two would be lovely choices. Pressing the button she let out the two Pokemon she had chosen. A sleepy hoot from the Rowlet as she blinked and looked around.
Recently the small bird had been shown to another trainer and almost immediately passed over. Mirae unfortunately thought it was because of the grass types small stature. But surely it wouldn't always be the case. The other Pokemon released was much less tired and much less docile. The Hawlucha spreading his wings high above his head in a stretch before looking around excitedly. < It's my time to shine! Who wants to go look for some treasure! > With a wild streak the Hawlucha wasn't a Pokemon they often offered to new trainers. But this fellow seemed experienced enough. do you know what the scariest thing is?

Operator please This is wreckin' my mind Judas breathed out, a bit of relief perhaps that the womanβMirae as she had introduced herself, seemed to take Archimedes' lack of regard for decency or personal space in good stride. Cooing in a very self-pleased manner as the woman complimented her, the pidove in question thrummed happily nested amidst pink hair, seemingly very satisfied with herself. A hand was offered, and considering it a moment with a blink of golden eyes, she hesitated then fluttered to it, alighting on it and twisting her head to nuzzle a pale finger, ruffling her feathers out after and tilting her head to watch Mirae. < so nice! > She chimed lightly. A shame her human was so reluctant and awkward with mates, this female might make a nice one. So many chances and oppurtunities.... Yet he did love to waste them bumbling around and worrying about everything instead. Oh well. Humans.
Glancing askance past the frames of his glasses to hide his awkwardness as one hand rubbed the side of his neck and jaw, Judas nodded slightly. "A-Ah, of course, I'm sure you've dealt with much worse then merely my merely overly curious feathered friend" He chuckled lightly, almost nervously, a shy glance back towards Mirae, fleeting azure eyes bright. It still did little to excuse the rash invasive manner of Archimedes, but it seemed no matter how many times he tried to tell her or teach her she remained stubborn at her core, and for all he wished she wasn't that way he still loved her for it anyways. It was what made her the bird she was afterall...
Clearing his throat slightly as Mirae began discussing the manner of starters, Judas seemed to wince slightly, his gaze returning more steadily to her as embarrassment passed and his stance eased slightly now that the business at hand was being discussed rather then his companion's antics. It was true he did already have a steady pokΓ©mon with him, though Archimedes was far from a battle worthy bird... Respectfully though he held his tongue, listening attentively as she continued, relief and gratitude seeming to come over him as she finished. "Oh, thank you, I'm honored to have your kind words and graciousness. Really I... Well, I know I have Archimedes already as my companion but I would hate to see her get injured, she's never been used for... any sort of... battling before. You... err, understand some of what I'm getting at? It's why I was hoping to find another companion for the roads." His words hesitated around the subject of battling, his gaze glancing away, pained, as though almost reluctant to say it. He wasn't the biggest fan of the act himself really, sometimes it was a natural thing, other times pursued, but it often felt... Impersonal or cruel to him the act of doing it for the purpose of training or defeating others merely to prove the strength of one's team. And the thought of Archimedes fighting? He couldn't bear it, perhaps she might be okay with it but she was no active fighter, and he... Well he would never let himself see her injured for it.
Mirae had moved to a cabinet, Archimedes balancing easily on her perch despite the movement, the bird well accustomed to humans moving around while carrying her. Judas nodded as the woman noted out a clipboard, his gaze following her instructions he swiftly found it, moving with swift clicks of his dark boots to take it up from the table and slide the pen free, clicking the end to extend its black inky tip even as he started scanning the page, blue eyes quickling flicking back and forth behind wire-framed glasses. "Of course..." He murmured "I'll have it filled and signed for you in just a moment Miss Mirae..." Distracted, he was already beginning to set pen to paper to note his information, flowing black script appearing as his wrist flicked with movement over the page. Mildly interested, Archimedes shifted back and forth on Mirae's hand, balancing carefully as the woman dug through the cabinet, curious of what her human was filling out but decidedly more interested in the pokΓ©balls Mirae found as she stayed in her current place.
A soft hoot, disgruntled and tired, distracted Judas' attention from the paper and board instantly, his head turning suddenly in a peak of interest as he realized Mirae had already begun releasing a couple of pokΓ©mon for him. A soft gasp, all but silent, seemed to leave his lips as his gaze fell upon the two flying types, the lethargic freshly woken grassy owl in her bowtie and cowl of leaves and the hawlucha, bold, vivacious, and energetic in his cape and mask. Archimedes was swift to let out a mildly surprised 'coo' at the appearance of the other two birds, a soft < oh! > preceeding her swift departure from her current perch on Mirae to descend and land near the two and hop a few steps closer, inspecting both though her golden gaze lingered on the hawlucha, seeming to size him up with some... interest. < hmmm > She thrummed, her purr enough to make her human companion squint suspiciously in her direction, suspecting her thoughts, though he was far too busy examining the two starters himself to delve too much into that at the moment.
Clipboard under his arm for the moment and the pen in Judas' palm, clicked closed to avoid accidentally marking himself, the man hesitantly apporached the two, his steps careful not to startleβor perhaps in the Hawlucha's case excite. Crouching before them to help be on a closer plain to the smaller pokΓ©mon, Judas slid the clip of the pen into his vest pocket to hand it from the front, extending his now free hand carefully towards the rowlet to let the pokΓ©mon approach and investigate, should it wish to, though he tried to make sure it was far enough back to not seem an invasion of its space or an attack. "Hello there..." He murmured softly. "And who are you two little ones?" The question might have been rhetorical, certainly already his gaze flickered to the other bird, a smile soft upon his features as he studied the fighting type. Familiar with pokΓ©mon of many kinds, and especially the flying types he favored and loved, he could roughly understand the creature, to his mild amusement as the male flying type spoke. "Treasure...?" He questioned, the word taking him a moment, certainly a peculiar choise. His question wasn't doubtful though, but curious, as though trying to prompt the bird to answer more.

She understood completely that some Pokemon just weren't up for battling and it was only fair to not force them to. After all it was cruel to force a Pokemon to do something they didn't want to. They had their own thoughts and feelings and humans that overrode that were awful. Humans that didn't respect that didn't deserve to be paired with a Pokemon at all. "Don't worry about a thing! I'm trusting you. And just Mirae please, adding Miss in front of it is far too formal!" It wasn't really something that people did a lot. Especially since she was just a lab assistant. But the two Pokemon she had released seemed to be going over well and for that she was grateful.
The sleepy Rowlett shifted and moved as the man did, watching him with tired but careful eyes. She wasn't used to being awake during the day like this. The group she came from was almost entirely nocturnal. But luckily she was learning to deal with it somewhat better with the lab's help. < Rowlett... And who are you? > Her voice was soft as she spoke to the human male, her wings stretching slightly to reveal markings somewhat unusual markings. Underneath her wings were dark brown, almost diamond shaped patterns. It was a trademark from her breeding line.
Most trainer's didn't give her long enough to show them off but her wings needed to be stretched after such a long time sleeping. < He's got the look of an adventurer is who he is! > Hopping from one foot to the other Hawlucha knew that he could probably get the man's attention. < I'm Hawlucha! I'm going to dive in the deepest of caves and climb the highest of mountains! I'm gonna find rare artifacts from ancient civilizations! > He was excited. Archaeology was his passion even if it was a strange once. Surely this guy could understand something like that? do you know what the scariest thing is?

Oh can it be The voices calling me Word Count - 1,076 | πΊ inari πΊ | NOTES - AGGHHH choices, they both 2 gud Judas glanced up, shifting as he did from a crouch to resting on one knee instead to ease the tension off his thighs some, his azure gaze finding the woman again as she spoke with a warm smile. "Of course, apologies. And... Thank you. Really" She seemed to understand, or at least have good enough faith in him to trust him in this, for which he was grateful beyond measure. Perhaps he could have made it without a starter, certainly there were likely ways to go about things more carefully, but... Trying to do any sort of meaningful travelling through the routes and along the paths of the region without merely flying or teleporting to one's location, there was bound to be conflict, at least with the wild pokΓ©mon if nothing else. He would like to avoid such conflict more often then not, yet he couldn't deny he needed to at least... Prepare for it and be ready for it. And, if he was truly intending to try and embrace this lifestyle for at least a short trial, he should attempt it in earnest shouldn't he? But Archimedes was no fighter, and he was hardly willing to try to turn her into one. It meant... It meant much more then he could express that this chance was being given to him to find another companion whom might be more adapted and suited towards this, and that he was being trusted to do such even though he was already equipped with a PokΓ©mon.
Speaking of finding another companion.... Judas' gaze returned to the two flying types, and his own pidove among them, a soft voice catching his attention. The rowlet... The owl pokΓ©mon looked lethargic, like the female had been sleeping before she was released, and he wondered if she was used to being nocturnal. It wouldn't have surprised him, many hoothoot and rowlet especially were known for their night cycle, some were more then fine being up during the day but others only naturally came awake after the sun set. It wouldn't be a far stretch to assume this one might be the latter... Or perhaps she had merely been napping. Perhaps she was natural a more sleepy pokΓ©mon, there was no real way for him to deduce any of those explanations as truth. He smiled gently as she in turn asked him who he was, nodding as she gave her own introduction. His gaze lingered as she stretched her wings, noticing darker vaguely diamond markings on their insides, a soft 'hmm?' Escaping his lips. Interesting... He wondered if it was a peculiar quirk of her own or if she got it from her parents, perhaps a particular gene in her breeding or a mix of parent species...
Before Judas could be given chance to answer the sleepy owl's question however, it seemed the more lively Hawlucha was chiming in their own say, and his gaze flicking to them, he felt amusement and questioning spark, his brows twisting and raising slightly in bemused expression. An adventurer? Himself? Well... He was hardly one to claim that, perhaps some of his work was bold or harrowing experiences, but certainly none was adventurous. The danger was never on his own part or safety, and while some... odd calls and locations were occassionally done he didn't tend to go exploring. Perhaps he might a bit now, but he still wasn't so sure about being an adventurer, or having the look of one, and had to wonder where the plucky seeming fighting type had gotten that from. Archimedes seemed impressed and interested by the Hawlucha's loud brazen declarations, the pidove thrumming in a purr as she hopped and cozied closer, scooching herself right up next to the bright red and green bird and attempting to nuzzle up against him. < Sounds exciting! > She cooed, as Judas shook his head slightly at her.
Still, even for that misconception the Hawlucha seemed daring and good spirited. The kind of pokΓ©mon that might do well and whom Judas might not have to feel so anxious or guilty about battling the man realized. Someone who might do well travelling and fighting, the kind of pokΓ©mon that might relish being a starter and having a trainer to journey with. But then again, Judas was hardly the most brave of travellers, and he couldn't realizing at the same time that while the fighting type might be better suited to it, he was not quite so much and might perhaps prove a disappointment, holding back the Hawlucha. His troubled thoughts might have shown on his expression slightly, though when he was given chance to speak after hearing the Hawlucha proudly proclaim their goals and promises, he managed to reply in his own softer tones without waver, a gentle warmth in his pitch. "I'm Judas. I ahhh... I'm not quite sure I would call myself an adventurer really, most days I'm a medic who goes out and helps people rather then venturing across the wildlands. But I suppose today I am a Trainer." He smiled again, gently, drawing his free arm back to rest it across his knee, his gaze glancing at the Rowlet again before back to the Hawlucha, taking a few moments to parse together the fighting type's speech. It was easier with flying types, though he had researched and spent time with many pokΓ©mon, he had only truly delved into Flying types on a larger scale. It was a surprising interest though, artifacts? Ancient Civilizations? "It sounds like you have quite a passion. If... If you don't mind me asking, why do you want to find these...? What about them excites you? And..."
Judas hesitated, glancing back to the rowlet a moment, his gaze soft. "What of you Rowlet? Do you have any... Any dreams? Goals? What... What do you want? It's fine if you don't want to tell me, I'm not trying to intrude." As much as he had to wonder if perhaps the Hawlucha might be too outgoing to be a good match when slowed by his own more gentle nature, Judas thought perhaps... Well, he wasn't sure, but he knew the rowlet certainly seemed a lot... Quieter. Maybe he merely felt a closeness to her because of that, maybe he only thought perhaps she might work better because he and her could... Get along and understand each other well. But then again, wouldn't that make him feel wary of her getting hurt?

Things seemed to be going well and Mirae set to making a couple of cups of tea. It would be nice to unwind with and since the gentleman was spending so much time with the two Pokemon he would probably want one too. It would be nice to end the day on once he figured out which of the two starters he wanted to take along with him. Questions were inbound and it wasn't her place to step in and bother them because of it. They needed to take this time to bond on their own. Hawlucha looked almost confused when the Pidove slid up to him. He wasn't sure who she was but if she was cold then he supposed he could help keep her warm. It wasn't hurting him any for her to be that close after all.
As for why he wanted to be an adventurer that was simple. It was exciting. He lived for the thrill of finding things long lost. < It's amazing to find things that people and pokemon haven't seen for a long time! Searching for long lost civilizations and artifacts! There's so much to be learned from it. > He was excited just thinking about it really. He could find so much if only he had a trainer willing to take him out into the world. Whether or not it was this trainer he wasn't sure yet. But if not he wouldn't have hard feelings. Especially since he didn't want to go with someone who wasn't willing to go the distance like that. Rowlett thought for a moment, preening her feathers lightly as she did.
< I think, I'd like to help people. > She wasn't sure how she wanted to help people but it seemed like a good plan. It seemed like something she would be good at. Though she still wasn't quite sure on that either. < I don't have any real dreams or goals. So helping others with theirs might help me find mine. > It was a simple answer from the sleepy owl. She wasn't sure what else to say either. If she wasn't chosen by this trainer she was sure eventually that there would be another willing to listen to her. One day. do you know what the scariest thing is?

They get lost And out of time Judas glanced toward Mirae a moment as the woman moved, distracted by motion in the corner of his eye, though when he realized she wasn't moving to interrupt he let his gaze drift back to the starters, content to leave the woman to be with whatever it was she needed to do without watching or prying. Afterall, he was sure she had a much more to do then stand there listening and watching him talk to these two for a while until he had figured out whom he would be taking on as a companion and who would be left to wait for another trainer someday. In theory, this was a part of what they did, distributing and matching starters to aspiring trainers, but he imagined they must have many other things they did, for her to be giving him this time to bond with and get to know the two she had presented him with rather then try to guess and assume which would be best suited as a partner was a welcome thing. He wasn't sure what he had done to deserve so much of her trust and faith, he had realized when he had come here that perhaps it was wanton and greedy of him to expect anythingβnevermind the graciousness Mirae had thus far shown and given him even by still allowing him to take up more of her timeβbut he would not be one to challenge or attempt to squander that trust now that it had been given.
Archimedes thrummed as the Hawlucha let her scooch up to him, poking her head through his feathers and nuzzling against his side and chest. With a mildly amused sound, Judas shook his head slightly. Well, he couldn't say it surprised him, the pidove always seemed to love cozying ip or flirting with other flying types, especially in spring and summer. Perhaps it was fortunate she seemed to have little interest in having any eggs of her own.
Listening attentively as the Hawlucha eagerly supplied an answer to Judas' question, the man nodded his head slowly as the bird went on, a thoughtful hum coming softly from his lips. It seemed an earnest passion, born of a love and a thrill at the ideas of what the Hawlucha described. It wasn't difficult to see at all what drove this fighting type, and it panged the man to think of them, stuck here, waiting day after day for a trainer to come who could help them realize this dream of theirs, yearning and longing so fiercely. Yet at the same time, he doubted he could truly be the person they needed as a partner in this world. He admired their devotion, their excitement, but... Judas likely would never share it. Appreciate it, but never to the extent he felt like he should to... To be worthy of the Hawlucha's companionship? He didn't want to dissapoint or keep such a bold spirit held back, and he could never... Never truly see himself in the life they longed for. He liked to keep a more stable center, a more tranquil life. He was a man of his comforts.
Blinking in mild surprise as the Rowlet in turn finally gave her answer, Judas shifted his gaze to her, interested in why she answered the way she did. He felt guilty finding himself with such a sudden preference, as though he was being unfair to the Hawlucha for his slowly growing idea of choosing Rowlet, but still... Nodding sagely to her answer as well as she elaborated, he bowed his head a moment in thought after. Archimedes cooed softly, the pidove wriggling away from the Hawlucha to flutter over to his shoulder and perch atop it again, butting her head lightly against his jaw. He smiled, humming lightly before finding his words carefully. "It sounds like a worthy dream Hawlucha, and... And I think sometimes searching for what you desire is a worthy goal of itself." He glanced to Rowlet, his azure eyes soft and warm. "Certainly helping others with theirs never hurts with that..." He drifted off a moment, reluctant.
Was it too soon to be trying to make a final decision? He would feel sorrowful for whichever one he would leave behind, Judas knew that, but that was the truth of things that he couldn't take both with him. Biting his lip a moment, he shifted his other arm, resting the clipboard across his leg and knee as he balanced his arms across it. He sighed, heavy, glancing towards Mirae quickly before back at the pokemon. "Well..." He minced over his words, hesitant, searching for a bit more to try and get from them. "What do you think your ideal idea of a companion would be? I mean.. A... Human companion? Someone who challenges you, who tries to... To push you to your limits? Someone who supports you and always tries to back you? Someone who tries to help you get stronger and toughen you up, someone with independant who challenges you to keep up and strive forward, or someone who follows at your own pace? I... Well, I guess what I'm asking is, as a starter..." He paused briefly. "Who would you like to take you? If given free complete choice?"

Carefully she carried the cups over to the coffee table. Setting one down so that Judas could take it if he liked. "Don't be shy, I know that you're going to be traveling a lot!" Therefore having any comfort he could before actually going on an adventure was probably welcome. At least Mirae knew that it would be welcome in her mind. Hopefully it would be to his liking... "Do you need sugar or milk?" There was some on the counter as she motioned to it.
Of course she was worried about distracting him too much from the task at hand but she'd gone through all of the effort to make it for him. She would feel bad if he didn't want to drink it. But maybe one of the Pokemon would afterwards. It was nice to see that the man was trying to bond so well with the Pokemon though. It made her feel good to know that she had made a good choice in selecting them as potential starters for him.
Hawlucha gently patted the head of the Pidove that cozied up to him. She must have been extra cold in order to want to be that close. Maybe she got cold easily? The air conditioning was rather high in here and it was easy to see how she might have been a little bit cold. So once more it didn't really bother him that she wanted to be close. He was a bit on the worried side that the human here wouldn't be able to keep up with him on an adventure though.
Not for lack of trying of course but rather because he seemed a lot more reserved than he was. It wasn't a bad thing but Hawlucha himself was worried about how compatible they actually would be in the long run. Of course the man might surprise him but even he could see that he was a bit more interested in the Rowlett for the time being... < Someone who wants to take life by the horns and explore! Someone whose driven by passion! > He wanted someone who was willing to work with him in things like that. < But don't worry, neither of us are gonna have hard feelings if you don't choose us! >
At least he knew that he wasn't going to. It was part of being a lab Pokemon that sometimes you weren't a good match. That was just life. And he could handle that. < I'd like to go with someone who wants to help people. Or at least someone who doesn't want to cause harm to other people. > Some of the trainers that came in and out were, questionable to say the least. But Rowlett at least felt comfortable to step closer to this one. Whether he chose her or not he was at least a good person. Or at least he seemed to be. do you know what the scariest thing is?

I should've seen it glow But everybody knows Judas belatedly turned his attention back and towards Mirae, her voice breaking his thoughts a moment as he blinked, distracted slightly still by the weight of a potentially heavy choice. "Hmm?" He hummed in question, then, realizing he hadn't actually been paying attention, turned flustered a moment at his inattention and rudeness before the woman. "S-sorry, shy..?" Then azure eyes alighted upon the cups set out upon the stout table, one by her pale fingers and the other one set aside. For him? "Oh." He murmured, noting the tags draped over the edges and the steam coiling up from their lips. Tea? For him? "Oh" He repeated, a bit louder this time, clearing his throat, color brushing lightly upon his cheeks. "Y-you didn't have to Mirae..." A glance to the side, perhaps bashful slightly here. "...but thank you, yes, I will.. Umm.." The question of sugar or milk. A pause, thoughtful, brows furrowing just slightly. He enjoyed tea sometimes, but it had been quite some time since he had some, usually going instead for a strong coffee in hope the bitterness combined with caffeine might help him wake up and stay up. "... Milk I think, I'll... Get it in just a moment..."
Archimedes thrummed, a bit too suspiciously, and Judas shot the bird a dark look before wrenching his focus back to the pokemon, alert as he realized he was starting to miss something, blue hues flickering quickly to the Hawlucha as he turned his head swiftly back to the two birds. He nodded, trying to catch up again, though really, the answer... Wasn't far from what he might have expected. "I see" Came his murmur as the fighting type finished, a hint of a frown pulling at him. Was it unfair to say he likely had his decision made then? Perhaps... Yet it was never easy to do something like this was it? To judge other beings and decide which was worthy and which was not when all were deserving of it.
Then came pleasant surprise as the Hawlucha added at the end, a bit of reassurance. Perhaps they had sensed Judas' reluctance, perhaps they had realized his struggle to deny one for the other... Guiltily, he swallowed, but a small smile touched his features, grateful. "S-sorry... Thank you. I suppose I can only choose one of can't I? Better one then none..." An attempt at optimism and cheer, weak perhaps, he felt shamed at having being guessed so well. Perhaps the Hawlucha already realized to whom his thoughts were more directed, and was trying to ease his mind. But it still worked, and it still found him much more relaxed for the ease on his conscience.
Which perhaps made it easier when the other avian's answer firmly, with little remaining room for his anxious uncertain worries, decided and cemented his choice. Sleepy rowlet, her hoot softer and gentler then her courterpart's exuberant cries, made an appeal that touched deeply, her answer bringing forth a sigh, quiet, from Judas, his eyes closing a moment, and his expression relaxing, opening up. "Yes..." He breathed, then gathering himself as azure eyes opened to study thoughtfully from behind wire frames, he echoed himself louder, continuing. "Yes, I think... I think I could do that. Be that. Afterall, I've seen enough harm done, I've little want or need for more." He smiled, lips turning up at their corners. "I much prefer helping myself"
Stiff joints were stretched as he stood again, a slight wince as his legs unbent, his knee not the most fond of the hard floor. A glance at Mirae, smiling still, and he bent over, legs folding in a crouch this time, for a brief moment, a shifting of posture to get off the hard floor a bit. "Well... If nothing else, it was wonderful to meet both of you, and I wish you a wonderful and adventurous trainer one day soon to come for you and help you pursue your dreams Hawlucha. But... I don't think I could ever be who you are looking for." A meaningful, and apologetic, look at Hawlucha. Then, a shift to rowlet, folding one arm and the clipboard against him as he extended the other in gesture, offer. "Rowlet... Will you come with me and be my companion for the roads ahead?"

Even if the man said that he would get it himself she didn't mind grabbing the small pitcher of milk from the refrigerator and setting it down on the table for him. "Its no trouble at all. I like being able to offer some hospitality whenever I can." After all, most of the people who came here ended up immediately rushing off and it wasn't very fun for her. It was good to get to talk to one of the trainers for a little while. Even if it was just to help explain the Pokemon a little more or offer them some tea. She was a person too... It was good to be able to spend time with people. She knew it wouldn't be long until the journey started for this man, especially with the decision so close.
She was proud of Hawlucha for realizing he would probably have to step aside in this case and being alright with it. When it was all said and done the Rowlett was the one chosen out of them all. She took a few more steps forward and let out another sleepy hoot. < Of course. I'd love to go with you. > She felt a kinship with this human and it seemed like he was the partner she had been waiting for. < Good luck Rowlett! I know you're going to help a lot of people! > And he was going to find a lot of treasure one day. There were no hard feelings between the two of them as this was simply the nature of being a lab Pokemon. The owl flapped her wings and landed on the man's shoulder, comfortable in place.
female - o5 - rowlet long reach tackle; leafage; growl Rowlet has a bit of a mysterious backstory. While she seems small for her species that is intentional from her breeding. Part of a clan of Rowlet bred for assassinations and the like their small size generally helps them to move in and out unseen from spaces. The diamond marks on the inside of her wings mark her as a member of her clan. Rowlet abandoned this life after years of training though, preferring a life of peace and simplicity. She doesn't know what she wants to do with her life but she does want to atone for the things that she, and her clan, have done in the past by helping people. While she never fulfilled a contract she did all of the training for her age. She refuses to talk about her life before the lab though eventually with enough trust might be able to talk to her trainer about it. She's mostly nocturnal and is still adjusting to being awake during the day.

That a broken heart is blind That a broken heart is blind Word Count - 597 | @closed | NOTES - :3 oh my gosh rowlet
Judas smiled, a glance flickering back to Mirae as he nodded, though he didn't speak this time, focused on the two before him. There was time after.... To finish the paperwork and enjoy a cup of tea. Admittedly, he was almost holding his breath since the moment of his decision, uncertainty hanging suspenseful in the air. There was no good reason for it, he knew that, there was little reason or want that at least he could observe that might cause his choice to be rejected, yet... Yet he still was afraid of such. The rowlet was a starter after all, likely she spent many of her days in this lab waiting, wanting, to one day be chosen by a trainer like him, and.. At least as far as he could tell, the two were a good match. He could hope they were at least, and believe it was not just wishful thinking that made him think such a thing, but still he couldn't be sure of that.
Smile expanded, turning into a grin, teeth glimmering white as blue eyes sparkled behind rounded glasses. A breath was released, joy, elation, the rowlet accepting his offer gladly, and him in turn welcoming it. "And I, to go with one such as you..." He murmured in response, voice soft yet undeniably happy. A glance at the Hawlucha, eyes smiling even in apology and gratefulness, glad for the other pokemon's cheerful acceptance of the situation even despite the result. With a couple more steps, the rowlet spread her wings, fluttering to Judas' shoulder and finding roost there comfortably, and gently, carefully, he stood, moving in a smooth manner to help her keep her balance and adjust. Archimedes was long used to it and could keep grip even when he ran, but he wanted to make sure the little sleepy owl wasn't faced with too quick a movement and hurt her claw keeping grip or just fell.
A glance at Hawlucha again, a nod, then Judas turned his head towards Mirae, fiddling with the clipboard in his hand as he retrieved the pen from his shirt pocket. He felt giddy a bit, unable to stop grinning even as he bashfully realized he was acting as excitable as a child. Still... A hand, pen closed in two fingers to his palm while the other two bent slightly, started almost to move as though to reach up and brush at the feathers of his newest companion, then stopped, realizing she had only just joined him and might not be comfortable with such touches and gestures. But still, she was there, her weight slightly more noticable then his own companion who fluttered about and then found perch on his other shoulder, peering at the rowlet with interest.
Taking steps towards the table, Judas set the clipboard and pen down as he took his own cup and prepared it, a light splash of milk being added and swirled in before he took a sip of the hot liquid, a grateful smile directed at Mirae. "Thank you" Came meager reply, not the first time, yet each he had meant it, and found little else to cover his gratitude beyond those words. Taking up pen between sips, he set to finishing the paperwork, when he was done with both that and his tea, leaving them for Mirae with a farewell, cheery and full of good wishes for the other woman as he set out into Cassiopeia again, his newest companion dozing lightly where she gripped while his other took flight once out the confines of the lab.
