[attr="class","rostercat2"]Catheld has a questionable relationship with existence. They seem to go in and out as they please, as if they are exempt from the boundaries of time and space, as if they are a ghost conflicted between heaven and earth. It's incredible. No one knows where they are or what they're doing at any given point in time, no one has any sort of steady contact with them, no one has been able to hold a full conversation without them finding a way to excuse themself—an elusive wink, an unapologetic smile—and disappearing, just like that. They're so cryptid-like that any interaction with them can be considered an encounter. But this isn't what makes Catheld so infuriating, though it's certainly a contributing factor. No, it's their theatrics, their smoke and mirrors. It's their abstract methods of thinking that make them so hard to predict. They take pleasure in being mysterious, so they always talk in riddling, roundabout ways and never give a straight answer. Ask a question, get a question as an answer. Ask for advice, receive some obscure fable or poem. Catheld is wise, but they make people work for their wisdom. It comes as no surprise that Catheld is an artist, which manifests in the way they coordinate Pokemon moves. They see beauty in all things, but they delight in the grotesque as well. As one who detests convention, they seek to push the limits of human imagination out of its comfort zone. They are prone to daydreams and flights of fancy, and so are guided only by their whims. They're a free spirit, that Catheld. For someone so fleeting, though, Catheld is intensely dynamic. They may act according to their caprices, but they do so with such passion that one might think they are pursuing a lifelong dream. Their fledgling career as a coordinator reflects this energy—they pour all their artistry into their Pokemon and let them shine onstage, while they retain their enigmatic quality outside of the spotlight. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]PERSONALITY | [attr="class","rostercat2"]- After giving birth, Catheld’s mother fell under an undiagnosed case of postpartum depression that caused a rift between her and Catheld’s father. They divorced before their child’s first birthday, and Catheld’s father moved to Rigel City. Catheld had no contact with him in their childhood due to their mother’s interference. - Though she loved her child, Catheld’s mother could not help but be irritable toward them. Overwhelmed and unable to understand their mother’s illness at their young age, Catheld often played outside by themself to give their mother space. At first they were tentative about being alone, but soon they grew accustomed to it. They kept to themself at school as well, which concerned their teachers. Their social skills went undeveloped. - The older they grew, the odder people thought they were. Catheld was never one to pay the opinions of others any heed, though. They came to like this air of mystery they’d managed to create. They were sometimes lonely, but they persuaded themself that they weren’t. - In middle school, Catheld began to befriend the Pokemon on the outskirts of town. At first they were hard-pressed to comprehend Pokespeech, but gradually they came to understand it fluently. They never pursued these friendships outside of a superficial layer, however, partly because they were afraid of social commitment and partly because they simply didn’t know how to. - Upon seeing other students at school participate in the Pride movement, Catheld began to explore her own gender identity and found that they were agender. They never actually came out to anyone, as they didn’t care how they were perceived as long as they were at peace with themself. They did, however, work toward a perfectly androgynous appearance, which wasn’t as hard as they expected. From then on, anytime they were asked about their gender, they gave a vague response. They let people assume. - At the start of high school, Catheld’s mother attempted suicide. She was given the diagnosis that had been overlooked all this time and she began to attend therapy regularly. Catheld, heavy with guilt that she hadn’t been able to recognize her mother’s mental condition, accompanied her. Though her mother didn’t care much for it, Catheld became interested in art therapy and the emotional expression it allowed. At home, she tried her hand at painting but found that still, unmoving colors and lines weren’t interesting enough for her. - With therapy, their mother’s condition improved drastically. She opened communications with Catheld’s father, who had by then remarried, and resolved the misunderstandings between them. In light of this, their mother offered to let Catheld visit their father. From then on Catheld took a weekend trip to the city every month to see their father and his wife, who they were actually able to befriend more quickly. Their father’s wife had a flair for art and dramatics as well, so the two bonded over those. - At some point Catheld became heavily invested in holographic fashion and makeup. They dyed their hair an iridescent platinum to match. - Their father’s wife was a professional coordinator. She sometimes took Catheld to the Magidome to show off her Pokemon’s routines. Catheld was entranced by the synergy, the sparks, the movement—and they fell in love. They began to study coordination in depth and was sometimes able to convince the Pokemon back home to show them some moves. They planned to kick off their career right after their high school graduation. - When Catheld’s mother heard about this, she disapproved. Coordinating was not exactly a stable lifestyle, and it required talent and charisma that she was not convinced her child had. After a series of vetos, Catheld compromised by promising to sign up as a Pokemon ranger as soon as she built up a solid team and possibly earned a ribbon. Though still reluctant, their mother went along with it. Being a ranger did promise a more stable income. - Right after graduation, Catheld went off to the Ranger Waypoint to receive her starter Pokemon. [attr="class","rostercatsub2"]HISTORY |
