[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"]This had been a somehow easily thought of scenario, considering all the walking, talking, and no-goal-keeping the girl had done. From town to town, via one version of travel versus another; she had ended up not only away from port but far too close to the boundaries of the wilds where far too many people were all too happy to keep her from. All the more enthusiastic each and every time she mentioned she hadn't kept any of her previous pokemon on her, or after some deeper prying from the more relentless; the lack of a visitation to the local lab. Sure, that should have been priority number one on the list. Should have. It was, at one point. Where the idea popped out of her head like a canine on a rodent, Luciel hadn't the slightest idea. Maybe after one of the more famous local fish dishes back at the port? [break][break] Sad as it was, it wouldn't have been surprising. Or the first time! Funny that. It didn't help that she didn't feel any particular need to hurry or the rush to get her happy butt on the road to El Dorado. Camera in hand, it had been far more pleasant to take in the sights of civilization before the needs of her more beloved wilds had taken hold. That was usually one of her smarter ideas... but then those didn't tend to go past a week. Which was why the bus ride she'd happily hopped in was a pretty little gift horse. [break][break] A trip to the Ranger Station, or something like that. HQ? Eh, same thing. Either way it was a perfect little outing in her mind, both objective completing and wonderfully stuck out in a place that took her more than a half-an-hour to click her camera away at. Endless amounts of plant-life to go into the digital folders, the little snaps of wild pokemon she did manage to spot whether out of their lack of fear for humans or just general luck- those would be going into the main file. Wonderfully fulfilling! She deserved a donut at this rate! "Just look at all this success!" The happy chirp had startled a pair of flying-types from their perch. Whoops... moving along. [break][break] Truth be told, aside from her clear dismissal of nerves; the idea of the Ranger Station had been both a foreign and strange idea to the girl so used to labs. Everywhere she'd been, her potential partners had been human-raised lab pokemon. Already used to and willing to communicate or show off for potential trainers, barring some exceptions of course. But the general idea had been there. So it hadn't occurred to her just how the events would play out, how difficult it might have been to attempt to befriend a wild pokemon with what supplies and silver words she did have. Not that there actually were any of the latter, any words to deny it would been horrible lies. Her ignorance was undoubtedly the reason why she could push the doors open so easily, camera clipped to her belt while her now-free hands dug through the bag at her other hip for the proper credentials. A pure, utter mess. Papers were crushed up against the laptop hidden in the bag before she could pull out what she'd been looking for. [break][break] Her ID, some other information sent over from the professors of the other regions she'd been to. They were plopped down onto what she could only assume was the front desk, scanned over another time to ensure that the required information had been correct. Not that she hadn't checked them twenty times over on the ride over, the dog ears on a few of the papers clearly didn't point to just that. After that it was a question as to where to alert someone was. A bell, a dinger, a clapper- something? Did the door even have a chime? A quick look back showed that it most certainly did not. Lovely. "Now then... where is that bell." This was her absolutely refusing to shout for attention like some barbarian.

--- The chair was empty, back turned to whoever might enter. After a few seconds of waiting, she did love dramatic entrances, Princess twisted and spun the rolling chair around to face the girl. The Stunky stared up at her, daring her to say a word, then slowly reached a single paw up to place on the papers so she could drag them down and.... "Princess!" Drat, caught. The purple pokemon huffed and hopped out of the chair, her Trainer coming around the corner a moment later with a steamy cup of coffee in hand. He gave the poison type a scolding look before he gave the guest who had come inside an apologetic look. The blond haired man looked a little too nervous to be wearing an official ranger uniform if one was honest. "Sorry about that. Is there anything I can do to help you?" Ben went behind his desk and placed his drink down carefully, not wanting to spill the drink like he had so many times before. He was about to get out his own paperwork when he noticed hers, crinkled and now with a clear paw-print decorating the top page. Ben gave it a quick scan before humming, flipping through papers and nodding along before filing it away to deal with later. "Ah, I see. A Starter Pokemon. I'm Benjamin, but feel free to call me Ben. Since you're here for a Starter, I'll be the one assisting you today. Do you know the process for our services?" NYAROhi! i'll be taking your thread! <3 MADE BY VEL OF GS

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"]She very nearly broke out into a song searching for something to announce her presence, aside from the whole yelling-for-attention thing. The counter top was clean of any such items, not even a big, red, pretty button for her to press sadly; leaving her to search around the room with her eyes. Of course that wouldn't exactly produce any results- so it was only natural for her to try and search the other side of the desk, right? Well too bad, she was going to do it! [break][break] Made it about a quarter of the way to peaking over when the chair, that shouldn't have been moving; started to do just that. Now, Luciel wasn't the jumpy type. Didn't flinch when ghosts popped out, didn't run for the hills when a disaster happens, tended to be the source of some explosions... Yet the girl had found herself a few steps back before that chair had turned all the way. One hand on her camera with the other raised in some futile attempt to show some ability with martial arts. She didn't know any. Still, when the sight had truly hit her, Luciel probably had the most dumbfounded look on her face. A stunky. [break][break] How did it turn the chair when it couldn't touch the floor..? Magic stunky! Her staring was as plain as the look of curiosity on her face, fully realizing that she was tilting her head at the small mammal when it had place a paw on the paperwork. Again, she wasn't the jumpy type... but when one was completely absorbed in staring at an evil mastermind-looking pokemon giving her the super boss of 'I'm gonna make your life hell' glare, it was kind of hard to pay attention to one's surrounding. The sudden shout made that very apparent, sending the girl a few inches into the air with both hands scrambling to keep either bag or camera from clattering to the floor. [break][break] "Dear, sweet Arceus I nearly peed myself." She allowed herself a deep breath, a small series of chuckles escaping her before the photographer had ended up just shaking her head at herself. Well at least she knew the stunky's name, she'd remember that given the event and the sheer amount of effort it was taking her to keep from bursting up into an endless chain of giggles. That failed slightly, the short lived snorts escaping had kept her from giving the poor man his answer; only able to give the desk with her paperwork a short little tap at. [break][break] "Ah- sorry, one sec." Was all she could manage from behind the arm she was giggling into. A few breath, one super obvious heave; and there- the perfectly controlled face was there. With a smile acting as the floodgates. Yes, very controlled indeed. "Okay, I'm good. But yeah, a starter- also hi, I'm Lucy." Her fingers twiddled a wave while her grammar skills went out the window. "Thank you for that, I heard about the process from the driver on the way up here but I won't stop you if you wanna go over it again for perfection's sake." Her smile widened slightly as she recounted what she had heard, all the info coming from the chatty driver who had given the ride to a few too many people it seemed. "One chance wonder right? Kind of like a roulette? And we have to 'convince' our partners to come with us, right? Or something like that. The idea of it sounded pretty romantic though, I remember that." Another crisp chuckle escaped her. "Oh! I did have a question though- did you allow picture-taking wherever it was you take folks like me?" A little raise of her camera with a coy grin replaced her mirth. One must take opportunities where they found them!

--- Ah, this one was energetic. Ben hoped that she got paired with a pokemon who could handle her. Some of the pokemon here tended to be a little gun shy, as it were. Still, she seemed to know at least a bit and everything was in order. Getting up again, he moved over to the elevator and opened it up. Princess made her way inside first, huffing lightly as she did, and was followed quickly by Ben. "I'll give the basic rundown since you know what's up, then." He waited on Luciel to board before he pushed another button and took a single pokeball out of a container than hung on the wall. He offered the pokeball to Luciel as the elevator began to move. It lurched to the right, abruptly, before seeming to just flat drop down. Ben didn't seem too effected by this, used to the strange elevator, but for someone who hadn't expected it might not be so fun. "This elevator is taking us to one of the Biomes we house wild, rehabilitated pokemon in. They're all state of the art and meant to mimic nature as much as possible. These pokemon are ones that, for whatever reason, we couldn't release back into the wild. They'll still all be perfectly good choices as a Starter but they won't be as tame as one of the Lab pokemon. "Wherever we stop and whatever pokemon we find first will be your Starter. You can't choose another one from us if you don't like it. Since some of the pokemon get rough sometimes, Princess and I are here to protect you but otherwise won't interfere. Just keep in mind when we do have to step in, it's usually because the person is doing something dumb to instigate the pokemon. A chick on Kieran's shift tried to hug a pissed off Magnemite once to 'heal it with the power of her love.' Please don't do that. "As for cameras.... it kind of depends on where we go. If we end up in one of the darker biomes, the flash could disturb the pokemon, so please don't. Otherwise, you should be fine." Around the time that Ben finished his spiel, the elevator stopped and the doors slid open with a 'ding'. It was pitch black outside the doors, only the glow of the elevator showing the ground outside was hard and rocky for a few steps. "Welp.... I guess that's a 'no' to pictures. Sorry." With that, Ben tapped his glasses. The lenses lit up green for a moment. He pulled something off of his belt and offered it to Luciel. "Night Vision Goggles. They'll help but be careful. The pokemon in this biome tend to be... extra rough." NYAROyou'll find out your starter next post! sorry lucy :c ben would have let you taken pictures if it hadn't been dark. i think her starter will more than make up for it tho. >:3c MADE BY VEL OF GS

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"]She'd had the sense to give an affirming nod toward the man, of whom she was just now starting to fully pay attention to. Her photographer's eye had her probably staring, sizing and summing him up with that sort of calculated thought process. In other words, she was probably staring at him rather rudely even though he was keeping to such a nice tone and formality... and she wouldn't have even noticed it. Didn't notice it actually. It was a habit by that point, something she never noticed anymore unless someone else had stated it. At least she had her listening face on, absorbing the info he tossed out as she followed him with a little hop to the elevator. [break][break] It was a rather fancy feel, for an elevator anyway. The smoothness of the walls, the actual movement of the box carrying them; signaled fresh technology. It had her somewhat giddy, accepting the poke`ball with a sincere "Thank you-" before going back to her mental lesson-taking. At one point she had given Princess a little smile when her roaming gaze had found the stunky, though; she'd kept any words to herself while she waited for the Ranger to continue his explanation. [break][break] The horizontal then sudden drop, on the other hand; had given the girl a pleasant surprise. A little 'whoop' escaping her when she'd found herself giving a little hop to offset the immediate sense of dropping. "Hoo boy! Haven't felt something like that in a while." Luciel gave a soft chuckle, her legs keeping to a position that looked as though she were ready for an equally sudden stop. On occasion, her head would bob to show she was still listening despite her extended silence; once or twice looking toward the Ranger to mouth a few 'O's' after certain facts or rules he popped out there. Though she couldn't hold back the snorted giggle from his plea, "I'm afraid I'm not empathetic enough to even try something like that. No worries there." Her giggle lasted for a second longer while the image of this mentioned foolishness played out in a wonderfully comedic way in her mind. Surely not fun for the person herself, but hilarious for Luciel after the fact. [break][break] "Dang, knew I should have brought the camcorder. Hopefully I'll get lucky in that case-" Nope, that certainly would not happen. As the elevator came to a stop and the doors opened up to a great black beyond, the woman gave a dramatic tilt of her head with a hand at her hip. "Ne~ver mind. Oh well, I'll just record the experience with my head." An optimistic shrug of her shoulders. She gave the man an assuring little smile though with his apology, "No worries, no worries-"; accepting the goggles while her free hand pushed her camera to hang over her back. [break][break] "Rough or hostile?" She gave an impish grin, "Well, just from the initial look of things I'm gonna take a guess that this is a cave system biome. Oh how fun! Love the caves, especially the one back in Kanto. Wish me luck, I'll try not piss anyone off." She'd kept her voice low despite the excitement making her quiver, careful to keep herself from echoing just in case she'd been right. [break][break] Fixing the goggles right, tugging a few strands of her hair free from an unpleasant snag; Luciel trotted into the system. Balancing her weight onto the front half of her boots to keep herself from echoing- soft walking. Poke`ball tucked comfortably against her hand, she'd begun to count the seconds it would take for something to pop out what with the sudden blaze of elevator light. Keeping her ears focused more than her eyes, it really did remind her of Kanto. Now, the only thing she hoped for was a lack of an angry zubat mob... as fun as that had been, she didn't have a Charmeleon to come scare away all the offended flippy-flappers. [break][break] [break][break] ((She'll live- thanks for taking my starter btw! Now you have me all sorts of excited. <( * w*)> ))

--- Ben gave kind of an awkward laugh. Well, this one was pretty smart. He had wanted to avoid 'hostile' to not scare her off... but looked like she had guessed right. Oh well. "I'll stick close but I'm not going to intervene. Just don't be surprised if you turn around and spot me." He gave her a little warning before letting her wander off. Too many people so close together might scare off whatever pokemon were brave enough to come out in this environment. Speaking of, one pokemon had caught a whiff of something new. She hadn't noticed the light flooding the area because she couldn't see it. She could hear the elevator, though, and she could smell that stinky Stunky even from this far away. Whenever Ben and the Rangers showed up.... that meant food! And she was quite hungry, wouldn't you know. She had slept through her usual dinner time so she was positively famished. Sniffing about, she caught a slightly different scent that was closer by. How nice. This person was probably new so she could probably get them to give her a few extra bits of food. That would be nice. Scenting her way closer, the Deino was what popped out in front of Lucy- not on purpose, but for someone with eyes her sudden appearance from around a corner might have been a shock. < Hello, hello! I'm ready for breakfast! Please and thank you! > Deino opened her mouth wide, waiting for her food to be dropped into her mouth. The Rangers always said it was unseemly but why have them place it down when they could just shovel it in? It seemed like less work to her. Humans were silly. [nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"] Luciel had a short period of relief to know that he wasn't just going to watch from the safety of the elevator, though; she wasn't quite sure just how close he was willing to stand guard considering she could barely hear his steps past her own. Or was that her heart? Definitely her heart, the sound was like a bass at full volume in her ears. The excitement was turning against her it would seem, deafening her to anything outside the usual disturbed rocks or what she thought was some wisp of air flowing through. How that could have been, well- if she'd built the place then maybe she'd have known. Since she did not that was going to be one of the wonderful little mysteries of the whole event. At least with the latter it felt more... fate-bound, if that was the right word. [break][break] The goggles gave her a strange vision though, in all honestly. At one point, the girl had wondered if that was how night-vision pokemon saw... or dark-vision, was there a difference between the two? Probably. Kind of like cameras or at least that was the first idea to pop into her head. It drew a stupid little grin past the initial wonderment, a look that was thrown into another round of wonderment when a certain little shape popped out from the shadows of the rocks. [break][break] To be quite honest, Lucy had to jump back a few steps to avoid the full on collision that nearly happened. A surprised hush of a 'Oh-!' whispering in the darkness. Definitely not a zubat! Definitely ground bound and not in a swarm like she'd been searching for in case of that emergency run. Yes, she had been searching for zubats only to see if her luck would have been like Kanto... Fortune was definitely smiling on her today though! [break][break] "Hello there pretty girl-!" Instantly her hands shuffled to find her pockets for a food item she'd never been given. Pulling out an assortment of candies before shoving them back to go search through her bag. "The Rangers didn't give me anything to give you but I do have some riceballs from lunch." Without much more mention, one of three of the snack-lunches were rolled into the little dragon's open maw. "Here's one for now, do you like it?" Her face was lit up, even if she knew the little one before her couldn't see it; holding the remaining two pieces of her lunch at the ready in case the rest were asked for, or knowing her luck; in a way that she could divert a hungry pokemon off herself if gluttony took over and threatened to squish her. Again. That had happened before with a herd of mareep. As wonderfully fluffy as those had been, she didn't exactly want to try that with a pokemon who inherently had no eyes to tell her face from a rice ball. [break][break] Of course the idea of that didn't stop the photographer from rambling in all her gushing admiration. "Man, I haven't seen one like you since Hoenn! I'm Luciel, it's nice to meet you." She still kept her voice low in case of extra wandering pokemon. Also in case Benjamin piped up to scold her for feeding the pokemon. That realization took a good, long moment to settle in her brain. Not quite all there really but it was still a little thought. He should have been close enough to tell what she was doing, let alone hear the conversation right? Eh, she couldn't hear him so that was going to be left to the gamble. [break][break] [break][break] ((Why hello precious baby deino <3 ))

--- When the rice ball was dropped into her mouth, Deino wasted no time in chomping down and chewing it to the best of her ability. It didn't taste like the normal stuff she ate, the meat and occasional veggies she was brought, but the foreign treat had a certain tang on her tongue that Deino liked. < I've never had a rice ball before. > Was all Deino said before opening her mouth for another. That had been quite nice and she would have been happy for some more since the strange not-Ranger Luciel had offered. Deino didn't know what a Hoenn was but she could appreciate the rambling. She wasn't much of a talker herself but she liked when the silence was filled. Ben was, in fact, close enough to see and hear what was going on. He had been worried when the Deino had appeared, knowing that some very aggressive ones tended to hang around the path Lucy had taken. It seemed his worries were for nothing when he realized which Deino it was, though, and he couldn't hide the small smile. If Lucy knew how to tempt this one she wouldn't be hard to convince to join her. She would also get one of the more even tempered Deino here who would certainly make a good partner. Ben was glad that he had worked the desk this morning so he could see this Deino get a nice Trainer. NYARO hope you like this hungry girl :u MADE BY VEL OF GS

[nospaces] [attr="class","spellbound-text"] It was a reassuring sight, if anything had to be said at all; Luciel feeling her already apparent smile widen several times wider into a toothy grin. Now wasn't that adorable! Watching the tiny dragon make short work of the riceball had the girl rolling the next one in without hesitation, purely glad that her own mixtures seemed to yummy enough to warrant more. Albeit she couldn't exactly remember what was what- though she did know one of them was rather spicy given her love of the flavors; but surely the dragon would be fine right? Maybe she should have warned her... warn her now, that is. Quickly, before the euphoria took over again. [break][break] "It looks like you like 'em well enough for a first time riceball-er." Luciel practically shined in her culinary experience expertise. "I make them with all sorts of stuff y'know? Sometimes it turns into a mystery with what I put in them but more half the time those turn out to be even better than the usual-!" There was a not so silent 'harumph' that sounded her self-awarded triumph. She was completely going to toot her own horn, not as loudly as some; but Luciel did have some pretty heavy self-confidence in her cooking. So long as no one threw her in a kitchen and told her to make a five-star meal that was. [break][break] But that had brought a thought to her mind, remembering her original goal and all. A confident, airy chuckle left the woman as she tooted her own horn even more. "You should have a taste of the pies I can make! It would require for us to be traveling buddies but man- can I make a mean meat pie. Hand-sized too so you can eat so many at once!" Even she was starting to get hungry from the memories of her favorite savory pies, even if they were usually compacted down into travel sized luxuries. Yet still the memories of the pastries were enough to make her remember when had been the last time she'd ate... a while ago actually- maybe she shouldn't have given up all her riceballs as an offering. Ah- no, it was gonna be fine. She'd just need to make more, hopefully find a hotel or motel so she could use a proper kitchen rather than the solar equipment her mother had sent to her. [break][break] "Doesn't it sound like a wonderful adventure time? I can make sweets y'know, well; mostly pudding stuff like flan but it's still so super yummy if I do say so myself. It's actually amazing how well berries can hold up in certain desserts..." Luciel drifted off into her musings, having to fight to remember that she was trying to recruit the tiny dragon. Her approach was more like bribery rather than an honest, blunt layout- though she'd done that too in all fairness- but hey, who didn't love food? It was like, literally; the star player to the whole traveling thing! [break][break] [break][break] ((sorry for the wait >x< ))

--- Spicy or not, Deino was quick to gobble down the offered riceballs. She hummed occasionally as she chewed, showing she was listening as Luciel spoke. She was honestly more focused on her chow-fest but enough of the words got through to her to show she was paying attention somewhat. But when Luciel started talking food, even if it was food that Deino had never heard of, her head snapped to attention. If she had eyes they would be be wide open, just like her mouth was right then- practically drooling as she imagined what sort of treats that the girl in front of her was talking about. What was a pie? Deino had no idea but if it had meat in it had to be good. Pudding? Also something foreign and mysterious but that only added to the intrigue. It was sweet? Like berries were sometimes? Sign her up! < I-I wanna go! > Deino started, hopping from foot to foot in her excitement. That was really all it took to have her fired up. Just the promise of good food. < I'll adventure so good! Just make me those yummy things! Please! > Hopping up on her hind legs, Deino tried to flop on Luciel like a dog might when it was excited to see it's owner. NYARO hope you like this hungry girl :u MADE BY VEL OF GS
