The Meditite beelining towards his Pokeball hadn't surprised him in the least. He'd prepared for at least him doing something like that - what had, shocked him, however, was the Farfetch'd suddenly stepping in to come down on the other Pokemon's wrist. 'You're just afraid that's all. And you have to conquer that fear one day!'As those words left the flying type, he felt a sudden and incredibly uncomfortable sense of deja-vu. Why did that sound so familiar...? 'What're you so afraid of? You could make way more money if you traveled. You're gonna lose your chance if you keep sticking around.' ...Ah. Right. The other two starters persisted upon the Meditite as he forced the memory aside - well-intentioned, probably correct in their assertions, but... wrong. This was wrong. Kaleo opened his mouth to reply, but was overshadowed by the Meditite yelling at the Totodile to be quiet. He was tempted to try and cut in, a bit more loudly this time... but some sort of odd inner sense of clarity in that moment told him it was probably better to see how this panned out. Uncomfortable familiarity aside, this... ultimately wasn't his fight. Not his circus, not his Mankeys. 'It's only fair that he knows Meditite! You're not doing anyone any favors you know!''If you want to stop the rumors, you should just tell everyone why already. You're just making things harder for her.'...But it didn't stop that old indignation from clawing at the back of his throat while he listened. Still, he would be an adult about this; as much as he wanted to say something, he let them have it out, which cumulated in the Meditite spilling his guts about why he was still in the lab. When the young Pokemon finished explaining why he had been returned twice, however, he was met with not pity, nor apologies or questions or... much of anything on Kaleo's part. At least not initially. Instead, after a brief moment of silence, he was met with a deep nod of the rapper's head. "...Alright. Okay. Thanks for tellin' me all that. Mad props for ya bravery."And then he turned his attention to the Farfetch'd and the the Totodile. "And thank you two for tryin' to help. Appreciate it n' all, but, like... don't do anyone like that ever again."The shift in his manner over the duration of the fight was so gradual that Kaleo himself hadn't noticed it - rather than the peppy, upbeat manner he'd been conducting himself with the rest of the time, his disposition had settled into an almost uncharacteristically mature sort of calm as he faced down his three choices. His tone sounded mildly annoyed in spite of his efforts to deny feeling such, but any displeasure he may have had over the situation was reined in by a composed yet firm confidence. It seemed, within that brief moment, that Avarice Black was gone - replaced instead by a disappointed parent who had caught his children in the midst of a fistfight over who got the last piece of chocolate cake. "It's not cool to pressure others into discussin' shit they ain't 100 percent ready to talk about freely. Dude didn't ask to be released from the ball f'me specifically, or to be pushed into telling a stranger what he's gone through. You're doin' it outta love, I know, but that was some unbelievable disrespect you were showin' your friend right there."He tsk'd a bit, turning first to the Farfetch'd then; "If I ain't his digs, or he ain't ready, that's the end of it. Don't hit,"and then, the Totodile, "or speak for him t'try and force him t'change his mind. Fear or no, actin' gotta be on his terms and his terms only."There was a brief pause after he'd finished, during which he let out a long, heavy exhale through his nose. Fini's seashell tits, he hated getting actually irritated (why WAS he salty about this, anyway?). It didn't suit him at all, and if this was on camera... eeugh, he didn't want to think about this. For now, he'd scooped up the Pokeball Farfetch'd had denied the fighting type initially, holding it within grabbing distance for the Meditite. In that moment, something (someone?) he liked to bury under his sense of duty had made a choice, unexpectedly finding an odd sort of kinship in being the one always left behind. Misery loved company, common sense be damned. But... feeding that sort of selfish, embarrassing rationale was unfair of him, all things considered, but... but... ...but really, there was no point if that decision wasn't an option for him. Might as well rip the band-aid off. "...Sorry, bro. Here." He attempted to look at the smaller Pokemon in earnest, doing his best to banish whatever was left of that little surge of emotion from his brow. If the Farfetch'd came for his wrist like he had Meditite's... well, hopefully that leek couldn't break bones. That'd get ugly. "If you don't wanna be here, s'not anyone else's place to keep you." Was he talking about staying in the lab, or in his presence? At this point, it probably could have gone either way. 884 Words ● 🌺 inari 🌺 ● thanks for being vague asshole kal PHARAOH LEAP. professor liatris here! . Totodile was young and inexperienced with how things worked. Mainly how it wasn't nice to pressure other people into telling stories that they didn't want to tell. And to be completely honest she still wasn't sure what she had done wrong exactly. Just that it had been something. In her mind if it had happened to her she would want to be open and honest about it. But then again... She could see why maybe Meditite didn't want to talk about it. His feelings were still hurt over the entire thing and it was kind of embarrassing. So while maybe it hadn't been the best way to go about it she wasn't going to dwell on the things she did wrong either. Dwelling on them would just make it harder to move forward. Something that a certain fighting type needed to learn in her mind.
Farfetch'D felt more guilt than the Totodile perhaps. But he had also been the one to witness Meditite's self destructive behavior first hand. Watching him intentionally sabotage any attempt at anyone getting closer to him. It wasn't healthy behavior and the endless cycle he was putting himself into would eventually be his downfall. It had been time for someone to stand up for his own good. Otherwise it only would have continued. While it could have been done a better way probably the panic he felt over the younger Pokemon doing the same thing over again had taken control. But that was really no excuse for his behavior and he knew that. < They're right you know. I am a coward. > Meditite finally spoke up after all of the commotion from the human.
He knew that he was flawed. And that he was pretty much an awful choice as a starter Pokemon. Otherwise why would he have been brought back twice over? No one really wanted him. At least not permanently. < I can't do anything right. I can't even fuck up right. > He didn't want to stay in the lab forever. He didn't want to be trapped here stuck in his own fear forever. He wanted to be brave enough to step outside again and try and show the world what he was made of. But what if he wasn't made of good enough stuff? He wouldn't be able to handle a third failure on his part. < It's okay to be scared Meditite, but letting every chance pass you by isn't going to make you feel any better. > She knew that the human had told them not to lecture the Meditite but she didn't really feel like it was lecturing at this point. Just trying to help him sort out his own conflicted feelings. < Starting over is scary but if it's what you want then taking that step forward is what you need to do. > Farfetch'D was gentle with his tone, urging the Meditite forward slowly as the younger Pokemon stood slowly. It was unlikely that it would be like the last time. After all being brought back by this human would be public. Everyone would see it due to him being on tv. It wasn't like it could get swept up under the rug.MADE BY ★MEULK

Well, the Pokemon hadn't IMMEDIATELY flung itself back into its Pokeball yet. Nor had the others; he'd actually started to get a bit antsy about offering it out to the other and, as they spoke instead drew his arm back a bit, tossing the ball up and down in his free hand. This wasn't entirely what he was expecting when he asked them for their approval, but he could... run with it, he supposed. What he didn't entirely expect was that their 'approval' seemed to be towards trying to get him to choose one starter in particular. Not that he had the intention NOT to, at this point, but asking for one of the other two after they'd started trying to cheer the fighting type up in some vaguely supportive way would have been such a dick move. He was never that great at the whole 'comfort' thing, but it only seemed right to throw his hat into the ring after the Farfetch'd finished. "Uh, what they said. Besides, they call it fucking up 'cause you can only go higher afterwards, dude." He flashed him a thumbs up and gestured towards the ceiling with it for emphasis. "I mean, you ain't out there havin' 400 babies for some woman to trade off for chump change after she lied about the job. Or stuck with some crusty homophobe and tappin' a guy not livin' up to the 'top' in his own damn name." He crinkled his nose a bit. He had no idea what a Hitmontop was beyond there being a 'lee' and a 'chan' also out there, but... well, wasn't his business. "Either way, massive life improvements there, bud. Most successful form of fucking up I've ever heard of."Thanks, Kaleo. Still, it was... probably about time to wrap this up. He cleared his throat. "Anyway," I only learned to open a Pokeball ten minutes ago, but I'm still legit, promise.I might fuck you over even worse, I dunno shit about Pokemon psychology, but hey, worth a shot, right? ...No, someone had to be the rock around here. Somewhere in his mind, Kaleo stomped down whatever various insecurities his brain confronted him with in favor of facing all three one last time. "Farfetch'd, Totodile, thanks f'meetin' with me today, but if it's all the same t'you both, I'd like to take Meditite or none o' ya, if that's cool. You're both rad, but I doubt the Prof will let me take all three of y'all... and I ain't cool with makin' ya feel like backups."And with that, he pressed down the button the other two Pokeballs, and, as Liatris had shown him, returned both of the other starters before turning his attention fully to the Meditite. "...It's up to you tho', dude. I ain't like, the smartest guy or nothin', but I don't ditch anyone who relies on me."Oops. Though, if this dude was going to get prolonged exposure to him, and Liatris already knew he was an embarrassment on at least some level, that was fine. He reached up and rubbed at the back of his neck, glancing sidelong as he continued. "But, erm, if you ain't ready for that yet, you're free to tell 'em that I was a shithead and you n' the lab staff kicked my ass out. Protect ya cred n' all."He wasn't sure what it was like to be a Pokemon who rejected a trainer in a laboratory, given that there seemed to be a lot of desire to get out of here... but that seemed understandable, didn't it? The other Pokemon wouldn't give him flack for refusing to go with yet another shit trainer. 618 Words ● 🌺 inari 🌺 ● is it ethical to allow this man to travel with himself PHARAOH LEAP. professor liatris here! . While all starter Pokemon wanted to get out of the lab there was always a solidarity between them all. When one of them clearly shone above and beyond and resonated with a human that had come in the others tended to take a back seat and know they needed to step back. And that was definitely the case in this situation. Farfetch'D had known much longer that he was much less likely to go on with this trainer and while Totodile had wanted to go very badly Meditite was a better fit. She was sure that she would eventually get chosen, even if it wasn't right now. She was sure that the pair would get along well. There was no ill feelings whenever they returned to their Pokeballs for sure.
Now it was just Meditite there alone with him. Well, mostly alone considering Liatris and his Linoone were still there. But neither of them seemed to be paying that much attention to the quiet moment that the pair was having. After all it was important for them to bond. < You're dumb and I'm a coward. Seems like this shit is gonna be one hell of a ride. > He still wasn't absolutely sure. He was terrified in fact. But it was now or never. If he was brought back again he wasn't sure what he would do but he would just have to take those punches as they rolled. It would be terrifying outside of the lab again but... At least he might get to stretch his legs a little bit before things all went to shit. < Let's get this show on the road then. The sooner we get out of here the sooner I can get dunked on. > At least that was what he felt like was going to happen. It had been a long time since he'd had to deal with battling and whatnot but he was sure he could still kick some ass if he needed to.meditite - male - o5 telepathy bide - meditate - captivate meditite has had a rough go of life as a lab starter so far. being back to the lab twice due to his former partners being either unsatisfied with his unwillingness to breed or the fact that he had started to cozy up with his prize pokemon has left him extremely jaded. he's afraid to actually get close to people outside of the lab due to being afraid that it will all be for nothing when he's eventually brought back to the lab. he isn't ashamed of the fact that he likes men and won't bother to hide it. while he is terrified of being judged he knows that the truth comes out eventually and he isn't going to make himself more miserable than he already is by denying that portion of himself.
being left at the lab twice has left him with a crippling desire to shut everything out that might possibly be difficult. he doesn't want to work harder than he has to when it might all come done to nothing because he has to start back from square one because of a slip up. he often tries to sabotage friendships without even realizing it because he knows that if he ends up back in the lab they won't last anyways. as much as he wants his journey to work out and he's internally excited about the fact that he's out of the lab again he won't show it very often. burying it under a nonchalant attitude and trying to make it seem like its all no big deal.
he'll also do this with negative things because he figures if he's nonchalant about everything then he can't end up fucking things up too much because of an outburst. but he does have his moments where he can't possibly bottle things up anymore and turns into snark, sarcasm and an attitude that makes him seem like he's 6 feet tall and ready to rumble. not unlike what kaleo saw in the lab whenever he had his outburst with totodile.
it will take a long time for him to realize that his coping mechanisms aren't exactly healthy and that he needs to change. or rather he already knows that they are but isn't willing to change yet. he won't ever be one hundred percent the starry eyed and excitable pokemon that he used to be before being abandoned twice but with time and patience he could be more than a jaded ball of depression and self loathing. once he becomes comfortable he'll start making more jokes, probably at his trainer's expense, and be more willing to be open about how he feels about things. learning to manage his emotions properly will be tough but it will be worth it in the long run making him an extremely loyal and mostly hard working partner for kaleo. Kaleo noticeably lit up a little as the Meditite somewhat offhandedly agreed. Judging from the soap opera level of drama that had just erupted on the floor of the lab, he figured that was probably the best he was going to get out of him for the moment. That was fine - he already felt like he needed a nap just watching that little episode. Perhaps somewhat inappropriately, he snorted a bit at the last comment, belatedly realizing that this was probably just the beginning of another ordeal. "Bro, if anyone's gettin' dunked today, it's me. My manager's gonna be pissed that I didn't wait for the camera guy's slow ass to come 'round."...Speaking of, he probably needed to check in on where he was supposed to be soon. Reaching under the hem of his jacket, he pulled a chain out from the pocket of his sweatpants and clicked the Meditite's Pokeball onto it, taking a moment to stretch his legs after sitting for so long. How long had he been sitting there, anyway? He was starting to get pins and needles on his left side...Well, that could be walked off, at least. Scooping up the Pokeballs of the other two starters, he made a vague gesture towards the Meditite that he'd be just a moment before he approached Litaris's desk and set the other two down for them to... do whatever professors did with unchosen starters with. He was surprised their Pokemon stayed asleep through all of that, but... well, if they could snooze in the middle of battle, anywhere was possible, he supposed. Kaleo grinned. "Thanks for today, Prof! I'll be takin' this guy from ya." He made a vague gesture towards his new Pokemon, figuring that he'd leave him out of the ball for a little while unless he'd requested otherwise. He sure as shit probably would have wanted some fresh air after squatting inside for so long; he imagined anyone - particularly a fighting type - would think similarly. Once satisfied that they were done here, he gave a nod to his new partner in crime to indicate NOW they'd be getting this show on the road. Before they could depart completely, however, Kaleo paused a moment at the door to wink. "I'll come back n' seduce you proper later!"Given the whole emotional shitshow that had just occurred in the lab today, that probably sounded vaguely like a threat. Kaleo's mind, however, had glazed over that and already moved on to nicknames as he went to leave. He couldn't just call the guy 'dude' and 'bro' for the rest of their time together, after all. 445 Words ● --- ● FINISHIN THIS OUT PHARAOH LEAP.
