but nothing like my punch-drunk kiss
It was a day like any other. The feminine Absol strode through the morning dew, happily gazing upon the autumn scenery of the forest, contemplating death. A strange thing to think about to some, but she was the disaster Pokemon after all. A doom bringer. A death beacon. Yes, tragedy followed her wherever she wandered, though the true tragedy was that she was never there to see it..Fate is truly a cruel mistress! Death and disaster lie in her wake, but only in her wake, therefore she would never be there to see anyone's ultimate demise.
Although the air had grown colder, the sun was managing to break through the clouds today, making it the perfect day for a lakeside picnic. Or so those fools over there thought! The Absol crouched in the cover of the forest as she stalked two nearby figures. Eyes wide, her pupils dilate as they take in the brighter scene. A lovely young girl accompanied by a small clawed creature.
Zhee stretched her arms up over her head and arched her back, taking in the warmth of the sun. "Let's stop here to take a break." The blonde said after releasing a long sigh. "If we take many more you're gonna get fat." Rin remarked, her clawed arms crossed. Her trainer made a 'tch' noise through her teeth. "You're always extra crabby when you're hungry. Don't worry, we'll fill up that belly, Princess." The woman smirked as she began setting out a picnic blanket in the grass near the shore. "Princess? I think I'm more of a Queen... Maybe an Empress." Rin smirked as she smoothed her silky fur.
The beady eyed Absol looked on, a sinister grin tracing across her jowls. Her presence meant only one thing, that these two would meet their maker soon after she left. The Absol let out a quiet, breathy laugh and was nearly drooling as terrible thoughts bounced around her skull. Would it be brutal? Would it be quick, or would they suffer? Just how much big of a blood pool do you think that girl would make? The dark-type's erratic hyperventilating-like laughing was growing louder.
Zhee had already set out the blanket and was setting up her camping pot to make some tea and heat up some soup. The human made herself busy, the clinking of the metal objects she was handling drowning out any noise around her. Rin, on the other hand, furrowed her brows as her ears twitched toward some weird noise nearby. The Sneasel was seated on the blanket near Zhee's belongings and she looked over her shoulder toward where the Absol was hiding. "Hey, Rin, let's set the eggs out and let-" "Shh!" The Sneasel hissed, her eyes focused on a patch of brush on the edge of the trees.
It was then that they both heard it, the wet, breathy cackling of a rather disturbed Absol who had wound herself up imagining the ways in which Zhee and Rin would die. The Sneasel hopped to her feet, and quickly moved forward to a defensive position. "Show yourself, coward!" Rin growled as Zhee stood up to see what was happening.
Ah, well, it seemed the jig was up. Might as well show herself so that they could prepare for their dooms. The Absol ever so slowly crept out from the brush, that crazed look still across her face. It took her a full ten seconds to move her full self out into the open, enough time for Zhee and Rin to exchange worried looks. The Pokemon looked rabid. Drooling, eyes wide and dilated, and it sounded like it was having trouble breathing. Although the dark-type looked crazy, it wasn't moving to attack.
"Uh.. Hi, there... Are.. Are you okay?" Zhee tried, taking a few steps forward to stand next to Rin. The Absol responded by letting out a creepy cackle, then sharply inhaled to suck the drool back into her jowls. "Okay? Oh, I'm just fine, but you! Hah, you will not be so fine soon!" "I'm taking this psycho out." Rin declared, but before she could move, Zhee placed a hand on the Sneasel's chest as the blonde crouched down to eye level. "Oh? Why is that?" Zhee pressed further.
The Absol's eyes were adjusting to the light, becoming much less beady. The feline raised her head and proudly puffed out her chest fur, gaining a much more elegant look than that of it's crouched stalking position. "Why? Well.. That's because I'm here of course!" Rin tried to take another step, but Zhee held her once more. "I am the Disaster Pokemon, after all! The Doom Bringer. Those who receive a visit from me meet their fate soon after I leave." She stated with a small smirk.
The Sneasel sighed and dropped her arms before crossing them. "Uh-huh. We're you dropped as an egg or something?" Rin sneered. "Heh, well, would you care to join us for lunch before taking your leave, Doom Bringer?" Zhee smiled, ignoring Rin's comment. The Absol looked upward thoughtfully for a moment. "I suppose I am a tad peckish." The blonde nodded. "Very good, make yourself comfortable." And with that, she moved away from the Pokemon, returning to her cooking set.
Rin looked dumbfounded, her mouth hanging open for a moment before she trotted after her trainer. "Zhee! What're you doing? This thing is clearly coo-coo for cocoa puffs!" She hissed as Zhee started a fire under the small pot. "It's fine, Rin, the poor thing has been told her whole life that her kind are bad omens. It's nonsense, really, but she means us no harm. She'll eat and be on her way." The trainer reassured her Pokemon with a soft smile. "Let's set the eggs out to get some sun, shall we?"
As the two other females resumed their food making, the Absol moved over to the blanket the human has set in the grass. She placed her paws on it to dry the dew from her pads. As Zhee filled the pot with soup, she moved over to the blanket where the Absol and her belongings were. Quietly the human removed three ovals from her bag, each decorated with bows. The large feline moved closer as Zhee set them all gently on the blanket in the sun. The Absol tilted her head curiously, wide eyed. "Eggs?" She questioned.
The blonde nodded with a grin. "This one has a Zubat," She said, pointing to the egg with the purple and blue ribbon. "This is an Ekans," She indicated the one with purple satin ribbon. "And this one.. I'm not too sure, actually!" The last of the three was completely wrapped in ribbon since the shell of the egg was slightly sticky. Absol looked upon the eggs with a somewhat sad look. She didn't particularly care about the human and the Pokemon facing disaster as soon as she left, but these what would come of these innocent eggs? How unfair.. They wouldn't even get a chance to live? The feline somehow felt a tinge of guilt.
"Food is ready!" Zhee declared. Absol had been so distracted by the eggs that she hadn't noticed the human walk away. The blonde set a bowl of warm, creamy soup near the Absol before getting her own. The trio ate in silence, happily taking in the lakeside autumn scene. Absol was the first to finish and stand, moving closer to the eggs. "Human, what are these?" She asked, gently moving the bow of the ribbon wrapped around the Zubat egg with her claw. "Oh, a bow! Never seen one?" "It's.. pretty." "You like it? I'll make you one!"
Zhee grabbed her bag and dug out a pink satin ribbon, then moved closer to the Absol. The blonde hesitated. "Is it okay to touch you?" She asked. This was a wild Pokemon, after all. "...Yes, it is okay." The Absol said after a small pause. "Okay, do you want the bow here, or here, or here?" The woman held the ribbon up to where her horn met her head, to her neck, and to her paw. The dark-type pondered for a moment before tilting her head so that her horn was closer to Zhee.
The woman made quick work of the bow, and fussed with it for a moment before smiling warmly to the Absol. "All done! Take a look in the water. I'm going to start cleaning." Zhee moved away from the Pokemon to begin putting her things away. Absol went over to the water's edge near where Rin was seated and saw her reflection in the water. "Cute.." She smiled. "Yeah, you don't look so creepy anymore." The Sneasel commented, also looking at the water's reflection.
The pair were silent for a moment before the Absol looked over to the fellow dark-type. "May I ask... how is it traveling with a trainer?" She quietly asked, to which Rin sighed. "Zhee is a pain, but she's my pain. I'd still be alone without her." The Sneasel spoke truthfully. "...No one would want a Doom Bringer like me.." The Absol almost whispered. "I don't know. Misunderstood seems to be a theme with this girl." Rin said, glancing at her trainer who was now gently packing up the eggs.
A few moments later, Zhee was all packed up. "It was nice meeting you, Absol. Good luck on your travels." Zhee smiled and Rin gave the feline a nod before the pair began walking off. Absol sat there near the edge of the lake, staring at their backs. What would their fate be? Just around the corner, perhaps? And what of those innocent eggs? She glanced back at her reflection, seeing a worried face stare back at her. "Wait!"
She galloped after them. They had disappeared around the bend, but not far. It wasn't long until she caught up to them. "Wait!" She called out again, catching Zhee's attention, who turned around. "Huh, need something else?" The blonde asked as the Absol slowed to a stop. "Death and disaaster.. It only happens in my wake! But.. if I don't leave, then, maybe nothing will happen?" The Absol wasn't quite sure, herself, but all she knew was she would feel guilty leaving them now. "We'd be happy to have you, if that's what you want?" Zhee smiled warmly, reaching toward her side pocket for an empty capsule.
