It was a strange week, leading up to this moment. It wasn't the first report of a ranger to feel like they were being watched. On numerous occasions. A plate unattended for just a moment, found its contents gone, with no low swooping Pidove as a culprit. A berry bush stripped of prime content, enough to feed a small creature. It wasn't until a few days after these, and similar, began before a suspect came to light.
The fleeting glimpse of a strange child darting away when called out to. A blurry photograph caught by a trail cam soon followed. Little Foot was a on the prowl, it seemed. A solid week, and someone finally enticed her out with a trail of edibles to establish communications.
To Sylvia, it took a while to get up her motivation to come. Given direction by a friend, she had come to the Ranger's Station, taking their advice. Now, the young girl sat in a brightly lit room full of dead wood fashioned into various conveniences, like the chair upon which she had placed her tush, waiting for her turn.
Dressed in little more than leaves, and woven grass. Aside from being... a bit more exposed to the elements than one normally would this time of year, Sylvia's getup was rather modest. A distinct set of bark as accessories along her left arm, shoulders, and shins vaguely reminiscent of protective gear. Her cheeks, and bare arms decorated with patterns of red dye. In her lap, the only thing she'd brought with her that hadn't been tucked into a little leaf bag attached at her waist, sat. A shield made of darker bark pried long ago from a tree, complete with handles on the inside, and decorated with a red swirl on the front like a coat of arms. She had refused to come in without it, seeking comfort in its presence among so many strangers.
Her green hair remained uncombed beyond running fingers through, though had been washed just this morning in fresh water. It was done up in scattered braids held in place by bits of twig, and brightened with freshly fallen leaves. "Wish me luck," The girl said quietly but aloud, a few fingers idly tugging at the end of one of the braid. A soft smile touched her lips as she thought of the friend that had convinced her a month ago to begin an adventure, and seek out true companions. Like one she hoped to find here shortly.

--- It really was a perculiar situation, wasn't it? Ben typically didn't go out and do missions as much. He worked on rehabilitation here. It posed its own set of dangers and challenges. While he had heard of the strange goings on, he hadn't seen them for himself. Not just yet. But who could say no to a little girl, covered in dirt and leaves, coming inside? His fingertips twitched. What was she here for at all? Only one way to find out but Ben wanted to... make her comfortable first. Make sure she was okay. He did this the only way he knew how. Sitting a modest plate of food on the low table first, Ben sat down across from Sylvia. He had a basic brown clipboard in hand, pen ready to write. "Hi there." He tried to sound soft and gentle, easy. Another soft smile. "I made this for you. You're welcome to eat it if you like." It was just a grilled cheese and some cookies he had brought for his own lunch later. The break room wasn't stocked with very much given the nature of being a Ranger. He also sat down a bottle of water. "Could you tell me what your name is? I'm Benjamin, but everyone calls me Ben." It was very important to him to find out exactly... how she had gotten out here. Kids did come in for a Starter from time to time that was as young as her, but never on their own like this. They always had the guiding hands of parents or siblings or friends waiting on them when they returned to the lobby. MADE BY VEL OF GS

Clink.
The softest sound accompanied the plate as it was set down. Bread, cheese, not exactly things she was very familiar with, was eyed with scrutiny. It was a rather silly looking food. However, Sylvia could hardly lie to herself, even if she had wanted to, about the appeal of the edibles. It smelled wonderful.
The girl nudged the plate, an inquisitive look passing over her features as she inspected the contents. Then she nudged grilled cheese at the edge closest to her. "Eh hee," a little jump and a giggle portrayed her glee at the piece before her. It was all gooey and warm, and most definitely edible. Her soft smile widened, as warm as the gooey grilled cheese.
"I call me Sylvia." The girl's answer was nicely spoken, only a hint of an accent to pick out from her untamed nature. "It is very lovely to meet you, Benjamin." She made eye contact, her green eyes twinkling, and her back was straight. Prim and proper were words that fit it.
She looked to the sandwich once more, noticing the cookies, smaller and less colourful than the cheesey one. Multiples of them, though. With a finger she nudged them into two piles, one for herself, and of course, one for the Ben one. Sylvia moved the plate closer to the center of the desk between them. "Are they as yummy as they smell?" she asked.

{ } It probably wasn't good that Kieron was the one passing along the message that Ben was needed elsewhere. Especially since he already seemed to be involved with someone. But at the same time, it couldn't be helped and he could always take over for him. Unfortunately. He wasn't very good with children. Especially children he didn't know. But he would have to do his best. "If you keep feeding them they'll just keep coming back..." He muttered under his breath. He wasn't sure why this child was here but he assumed it was probably for a Pokemon. But that didn't really matter until after everything else was taken care of. "So what exactly are you here for?" Besides food it seemed.MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

The distraction was enough, and one cookie was pilfered from Sylvia's side of the plate. THen another, and another, tucked away into a little pouch. The sandwich that had yet to be divided, was left untouched, for now. "Oh, Oh! Yes." She quickly replied, her hands quickly placing themselves back into her lap, folding neatly with her fingers intertwined. She straightened her back, sittingg up nicely. "I guess..." to find a friend? A partner, and help each other grow, and protect one another. That was what Sylvia wanted to say. What she really said. "I want to protect everyone. I can't do that alone, so I wanted to find, A squire, so we can grow strong together. Like a Knight!" she said, a bright smile on her face, just a little bit of cookie crumb on her cheek.

{ } Every ten year old came in here with some grand dream to be completely honest. And as much as Kieron had used to pretend to be interested he knew that a lot of them would end up just burning out. But at least he'd gotten a straight answer out of the kid. She wanted a starter Pokemon. Which was fine. Grabbing the clipboard he set it on the table. "Do your parent's know that you're out here. The ranger station is the dangerous option." Everyone knew that. It seemed to him like the kid had run away from home as well meaning that if he gave her a Pokemon he might be complicit in something. "You'll have to fill out forms you know."MADE BY VEL OF GS + WW

An eye cast downward break her little mask of facade when he mentioned something about her non-exisent paretns. "I like to think off it as, well, the way it should be." She said in answer, though only after a brief, but noticcable pause. A wild pokemon, for a wild child, at least this one likely wouldn't be after her as its next dinner. It had been a friend that sugggested her here, after all. Follow her dreams, after all. "THat's okay, I can write." Sylvia assured. Her finger tugged at a leaf that served as the tie for one of her braids, before adding. "Oh, and sound of mind, too." with another smile. tagged: 🌺 inari 🌺
