[ ] Sam was lucky enough that he didn't have little shits in his party just yet. No, he had Peach and Bagon. They weren't terrible and he enjoyed their company. Granted, he wasn't sure if they were going to last. Well, Bagon was going to go the distance with him for sure but Peach? Peach was more of a mother hen who probably needed to find a breeder to tend to her. She would be a great bird for all the egg-related things. He planned on expanding his party but he wasn't sure how or in which direction. One thing he knew for sure was how much he adored dual types. With dual types came dual weaknesses but he couldn't help but find them completely fascinating. Namely the dual types that were warring elements. Who wouldn't find that fascinating?? "I agree completely. It's been a blast collecting the party I've currently got, and I can't wait to get a few more. I'm not sure who is going to be on my team, or who isn't, but I know it's gonna be a blast figuring it out." Sam looked to Aiden and lifted a brow. "I'm not much of a 'type' Trainer unless you count 'dual types' as a type? And then that'd be me, definitely... Bagon's my only exception so far." But he couldn't get rid of Bagon, because he adored him, and would keep him by his side forever if allowed. "What about you?" He inquired. "Do you favor fire types?" He knew that the Fletchling was a flying type, but it became a base fire type, and he figured maybe that was the sort of type the Trainer was going for with how much he resembled fire itself both in personality and in aesthetic. words. 320 notes. For the briefest of moments, Aiden almost envied the open endedness of Sam's journey. He could add any pokemon, anytime, anywhere. But that seemed awfully overwhelming. And fire types were the fucking best. Ridiculously powerful, insanely majestic, and crazily intelligent--there were no downsides. There were no Magikarps among fire types--even Slugma, who were physically among the slowest of all known pokemon, were decidedly not known for being mentally slow. So why would Aiden want to spend more time with non-fire types than he had to? Nonsense. Sam caught onto Aiden's fire type preference before he had a chance to properly answer the question. "You're damn right I favor fire types," Aiden said boisterously. "Best type in the world, if you ask me. But if you'd rather branch out and try some of everything, I won't judge."It wasn't entirely true, strictly speaking. Aiden did tend to judge people who only chose pokemon based on type advantages--people who went up against fighting type gyms with flying type pokemon specifically because of the type advantage. No matter how he looked at it, it felt cheap, almost like cheating. He admired gym leaders who could destroy teams with just one type, even when people came at them with type advantages. That was the way Aiden wanted to be one day. But Sam wasn't like him. Sam was a researcher. So of course he wanted to branch out and research different types. It only made sense. Aiden couldn't very well hold that against him. "Bagon might not be a dual type now, but he will be one day! Dragon and flying, I think. So you could have a whole team of dual types, if you wanted. Might even pick up a Fletchling one day!" A more polite one than his, hopefully. That was a rather low bar, though. While he spoke he spotted an odd shape in the distance. An egg of some sort. He broke off the conversation with Sam long enough to wander over and examine the egg. No one came rushing over to claim it so he assumed it was lone. It seemed odd but then again, if gems could randomly pop up around this pedestal thing... why couldn't eggs randomly pop up too? He picked it up--it was insanely light--and headed back to Sam. "Check this out," he called out eagerly. "An egg of some kind. [ ] How... hadn't he thought about the fact that Bagon would become a flying and dragon type? Somehow, in the grand scheme of things, that hadn't dawned on the researcher. Which only meant that basically, even the smartest of them could have a dumb moment- a brain fart, as his professor Griffon used to tell him. Sam could remember telling his professor that he was just pulling Sam's leg, that you couldn't forget such basic information so easily and yet here he stood, doing the same thing... huh. Sam would have followed behind Aiden if it hadn't been for the fact that Bagon and Peach were over where he currently was and he didn't really want to leave them with the Fletchling that still sort of looked a little sour about not getting the battle she wanted... Either way, Aiden made his way back over-- and holy smokes, with an egg! Sam beamed as he looked upon the egg. "Damn! That's awesome!" He laughed, grinning. "Look at you, what luck!" He glanced it over and narrowed his eyes. "I don't really recognize any patterns, but maybe it's just that rare or has a mutation property I'm unfamiliar with. Could be fire though, does it feel oddly warm or hot to the touch to you?" And now he was geeking out over the egg they'd found. At the mention of an egg, Peach immediately pulled Bagon up and over toward their conversation. He snorted and proceeded to the route that Peach lead him, looking at the egg curiously. Sam had one of those once. Did he still have it? He was pretty sure he did, nuzzled away in his bag somewhere-- oh, or did it hatch? Bagon couldn't rightly remember... Terrible memory. Something about a beach maybe??? words. 315 notes. Clover

Aiden's paternal instincts initially left him with an eager grin, but it faltered when Sam brought up the egg's appearance. "Yeah, I don't recognize the pattern, either." Given his decade long love of fire types, the fact that he couldn't identify the pokemon probably meant it wasn't a fire type. It wasn't fair to the egg to be disappointed; it couldn't exactly control its type or species. But he was disappointed anyway. Before his premature disappointment could drag his imagination too far down the road, Sam kept talking. Aiden dismissed the rare idea offhand because he didn't care much about rarity, at least not the way Sam did. If the egg was a non-fire species and was the rarest pokemon in the history of rare pokemon--some sort of species that was only found in one corner of the world at one specific time of the year or whatever--well, that just meant rehoming would be that much harder. He'd have to ensure it was going to a good home rather than a collector, who would only ever use the hypothetically-extremely-rare pokemon as a display of their own wealth... or worse, an egg mill. No, no. Aiden didn't want to raise non-fire types but he wasn't cruel. All pokemon deserved better than that. But the mutation idea? That was interesting. "Yeah, maybe!" With hope rekindled, his grin returned. "But nah, it feels more like... room temperature. Err, air temperature," he corrected, since they weren't actually indoors at the moment. "Could be young, though, maybe?" He didn't enough experience with eggs (which was the politically correct way of saying he had no experience with eggs) to know if fire type eggs started out warm or got warmer as they got closer to hatching. It was nothing but wishful thinking on his part. Sam's two pokemon approached and Aiden knelt down a bit so they could get a good look at it. The more eyes on the egg, the better. Maybe they'd recognize something he and Sam had missed! "Any guesses, guys?" WORDS → 340 POKEMON → none right now NOTES → wizz • +5 ruby gems (10)

[ ] Alright, so they didn't notice the pattern right away, but maybe they had missed something? Something that his Pokemon could pick up that he hadn't. If either of them would, it would be Peach. He was confident of that. Peach looked over the egg for a moment, head turning and tilting this way and that as she inspected the egg. She looked to her Trainer before looking back to the other Trainer. 'Sorry to say, but I've never seen one like that before. It's very pretty...?' She was trying to make it better; it being the fact that she didn't have the slightest clue what type of egg it was. Sam stroked her back and moved his fingers beneath her wings where he knew she liked to be scratched. "No worries Peach, you tried." He glanced down at Bagon and smiled. "How about you?"Bagon glanced between the Trainers, the egg, and that thing that was flying around in the air that had a foul mouth. He snorted and moved closer, opening his mouth to lick the egg. Sam grimaced. "S-sorry." He reeled down in order to quickly pull Bagon back and away from Aiden, closer to Sam before Bagon's tongue could touch the egg. "He uh, he gets curious.... he doesn't eat them, thankfully. But he really likes to lick them, for whatever reason. I guess he was licked a lot as an egg or maybe it's just what they do. I'm not totally sure." He admitted, moving back a bit with Bagon and huffing out a sigh. words. 279 notes. Clover

Aiden shrugged off the Pidgey's apology. It was sweet of her to be apologetic, though; Sam's bird was basically the polar opposite of Aiden's that way. "Doesn't seem like any of us have a clue, so you're in good company." He watched Sam pet the Pidgey beneath her wings and wondered idly if most birds enjoyed that. Carolina liked forehead rubs but--as much as Aiden loved her--he knew she was not a good representation what most birds were like. The Bagon was nervous, maybe? Or apprehensive? Curious? Something like that, Aiden thought. But oh, fuck, who was he kidding? Aiden couldn't have read the Bagon's facial expressions if his life depended on it. So he waited patiently and his patience was rewarded by the opportunity to witness an historic event: a Bagon trying to lick his egg. Sam stopped him in time, so the Bagon's tongue didn't even get to touch the egg. The idea of it was more than enough to wrack Aiden's sides with laughter. "Well... that's a first," he admitted when the laughter finally left him. "Maybe Mr. Bagon Dude there knows something that we don't, though." He winked at the Bagon--like, see? I'm on your side, even if you embarrass the daylights out of your dad. He liked playing the role of the Cool Uncle TM. Aiden mulled over Sam's word choice for a long moment before coming back with what was maybe his ten thousandth question. "You say he likes to lick them. Have you raised a lot of eggs, then?"WORDS → 257 POKEMON → none right now NOTES → wizz • +5 ruby gems (15)

[ ] Watching Aiden laugh had Sam relaxing a bit and loosing Bagon a bit in his hold. He moved his hand over certain areas of the skin around Bagon's skull. If he were a feline Pokemon, Bagon would have been purring. His eyes slipped closed and a small growl came from him as he took a seat, allowing Sam's hand to move how it pleased. Peach fluttered a bit before landing back atop Bagon's head, plucking off dirt from a small part of the skull before looking back to Aiden and Sam, back and forth at whoever was talking. She enjoyed observing conversations. "Uh, sort of? I mean, I did all the time back at the lab in Kalos, but I've only had one so far here in Inset. It was a Drowzee egg." He smiled, thinking back on the egg for a moment. "Bagon liked to rub and lick and cuddle the thing to death. Probably why he's a little bit confused he's not allowed to do the same to your egg. He's just used to being allowed to get up close and personal."words. 195 notes. Clover

Aiden winced at the mention of the ugly tapir. "Drowzee? I'm so sorry, that must be awful," he joked with a shake of his head. He supposed a researcher would be fascinated by the psychic type's powers but... Ick. Spending time around psychic types sounded awful--constantly having your mind read, all that. "But nahh. That's cool. Did you get to keep any of the pokemon you hatched back in Kalos, or was it all for the professor or whoever?"He side-eyed the Bagon for a long moment before inconspicuously setting his egg on the ground. "Go on," he mouthed to the dragon, gesturing toward the egg. If Bagon wanted to rub and lick and cuddle and get up close and personal with the egg, well, alright. Sam was probably several million times smarter than Aiden and from the sound of things, Bagon was allowed to play around with Sam's eggs--given all that, Aiden had no issue with him playing around with the weird, pattern-less egg. [ ] A small laugh left Sam. "I'm more of a steel man myself. But the Drowzee wasn't terrible." He shrugged. A bit lazy, but not terrible. Not totally anyway... "And no, no." Sam watched carefully as Aiden moved to set the egg down on the ground and motioned for Bagon. It had Sam smiling as he watched the dragon blink curiously at the egg, then at Aiden, before looking to Sam. A small hummed sort of grunt left Sam as he motioned, allowing Bagon free movement. "I hatched them so the Professor could hand them out and research them, mostly." He smiled. "They all found good homes though." Sam made damn sure of that. Bagon's 'go ahead' from both the Trainer who owned the egg and his own Trainer had him very eagerly grunting and giving a near whine. He wasn't sure why, but he so loved the eggs. Immediately there was a small lick, tongue sticking out of his mouth before he licked it almost completely. He laid beside the egg, curling around it, giving a few groans and grunts before finally settling with the egg and letting out a satisfied sigh that puffed up a bit of dirt from the crackling plain beneath him. gems. 25 + 100(next post makes ten) words. 219 notes. Steel? Now that was a type Aiden could get behind. Gigantic, imposing, immune to poison, resistant to lots of shit--but also weak to common moves like fire and often paired with a dual typing that also led them to other major weaknesses. It took one hell of a trainer to handle steel types. "Ahh, so you were hatching starters? That's awesome."Aiden wondered idly if his starter had been the result of such a breeding. She did have an egg move so it was likely a breeder had been involved at some point, but had the Tepig been intended for the lab, or had that happened some time after she hatched? Hm. The question bounced around in his head and, all in all, it sounded like a damn good excuse to whip up another tray of cinnamon rolls so he could head back and ask Tate about all that. Another day, perhaps. Bagon's adorable display of affection made Aiden smile. He'd never paid much attention to dragons. They were too... obvious, or something. Like they were too well known for being rare and too well known for being (allegedly) powerful, too this and too that, on and on the list went. So many kids back in his private high school had gotten pokemon along with a new car for their sixteenth birthdays, and the richest almost always got dragons. He had nothing against kids from rich parents--that would've been mighty hypocritical of him--but he hadn't ever really gotten the appeal. They were too much of an in your face kind of powerful. But this Bagon of Sam's? Oh lordy. It was precious as hell. Adorable, endearing, flawless. So much so that Aiden found his imagination locking in on the fact that dragon attacks resembled fire--Dragon Rage and the like--so maybe... maybe dragons would be an okay addition? One day? Assuming the dragon in question was similar to Sam's Bagon, of course. Otherwise, no dice. "He is perfect," Aiden said to Sam, though his whisper was so soft that it more mouthed than spoken. He was afraid if he spoke too loudly, the Bagon would hear him and move from his murderously cute position.
