▲ Unsurprisingly, Mossdeep City was not known for its sprawling forests- that honor went to the deep blue ocean and the prominent space center at the peak of the island. So when she heard rumors of a deep forest and a weird, gem-seeking merchant that had recently taken up residence there... Well, she had to see that, didn't she? Well into the depths of the woodland, Akane crouched next to a tree, reaching out to brush the leaf litter away from its ancient gnarled roots. Sure enough, small gemstones rolled into view. She picked one up, holding it up to examine it more closely in the dappled sunlight that streamed through the forest canopy. It glinted a deep green between her fingers, faceted faces shining like it had been polished. Supposedly they were worthless, but she quite admired them all the same. Vector hovered over her shoulder, wings flapping rapidly to maintain enough lift- there wasn't enough air movement here for her to fly leisurely on a warm current. Her mouth parted as she scanned her surroundings with a shrill call higher than any human ear could hear. It took no time at all for the sound to bounce back, giving her the impression of her trainer holding something in her hand. <Are those it?>"Mhmm." Akane rolled the stone between her fingers before slipping it into the pocket of her white button-up dress. The Zubat spun in the air as she surveyed the ground with another high-pitched squeal. <They're scattered everywhere. Such a mess, really,> Vector commented. <Are we sure someone didn't just drop these and is looking to get free labor out of strangers, instead of picking it up themselves?>"If that's the case, it's a smart idea." Vector sniffed at the thought. Her ears swiveled as she hovered in the air, listening for the sound of approaching people or pokemon as if perpetually on guard. @ ANyone ● 317

Sun is shining in the sky There ain't a cloud in sight Word Count - 881 | astra | NOTES - bit rusty, sorry for meh quality. Using for pidgey egg, mudbray egg 5 Jade gems A lifetime spent amidst the village of Ara, knowing and becoming familiar with its every building, several of it's residents, the every wall of the quaint ancient estate he had grown up on, and, but of course, the reclusive eaves of the woods, the forested path of route 2 which he had come to love all the much more as he spent hours sheltered among the partially overgrown rustic shrine or studying under the boughs of a study oak. Playing, dreaming, wandering between the towering trunks admiring the wildlife, watching butterfree flutter through the sun dappled glens, listening to the fletchling sing between the branches, befriending the amiable pidgey who came prospecting after him for the bread crumbs he often carried with him.
Yet never before had there existed a pedestal, certainly not that Judas could remember at all. And there had most definitely not been green gems scattered haphazardly throughout the foliage, nestled in the trees, buried in the dirt till the forest nearly seemed to glitter in the shifting light of the sun shafting through the leaves as the breeze gentle rustled and shifted the branches far above. Yet it could not be denied that the pedestal, upon first glance, seemed as though it might have lain there forever, faded, scuffed, dusted with dirt and taken over by fuzzy matured moss. Still, it left Judas feeling uneasy, a frown on his features even as he had listened to the proposition given to him and warily accepted the offer. If nothing else, he reasoned, it was perhaps for the better that the gems were not left as such around the forest, and he could not deny that whatever his feelings of foreboding the merchant in the emerald robe had seemed well intentioned and honest....
It didn't stop Judas from feeling... uneasy still even as he tread the familiar paths of a forest he had not had the chance to visit far too long a time. Nostalgia slowed the man's steps, his eyes lost in thought as he studied the passing trees, as though searching in vain for some familiar sign of his childhood, or merely reliving memories as he passed them by. Archimedes nestled on his shoulder, the pidove snuggled up and dozing lightly, her head resting on her chest as she lazily settled into the rhythm of Judas' steps, claws tucked into the strap of Judas' bag, weighed firmly against his side with the weight of two eggs, nestled carefully against each other with a blanket to pad them and add extra insulation in the cooling fall weather. Above the broken fragments of birdsong followed a taillow as she fluttered, dipping and flying in shallow dives and wide circles through the trees, a dark blue little flicker of movement cheerily zipping through the trees, the red and grey flicker of a fletchling loosely following her as Zeno followed lazily, eager enough to stretch his wings even if apathetic towards the woods around him.
Jealousy was in Socrates gaze as the sullen archen watched the two fly, though by the cocky angle of her head and the way she held herself one might have guessed she merely had decided to pad along the ground beside Judas rather then fly out of choice, occasionally stopping to fetch a jade gem that caught her eye and deposit it in a pouch Judas had been given as though the true reason she walked was to fulfill the important role of collecting jade gems and not frivolous flying. Ever since Judas had taken in the Oricorio to help tend to the recovering crippled avian, Socrates had been a lot less vocal about her complaints, her dark mutters slowly fading away in the presence of the bright colored fire bird, but she couldn't help still envying others. Even oricorio had something that made her great, she was majestic, dancing or not, and so confident....
At least Oricorio wasn't here at all for the moment, the injured avian resting in a ball for the moment rather then attempt to fly and walk around the woods. Otherwise Taillow might not have been wandering every which way on her own to begin with, the sparrow quite infatuated with the former dancer. But left on her own as it was, Archimedes dozing and oricorio gone, she was left to her own exploration, only Zeno even loosely near her, as though the fletchling cared much anyways, flitting her way through the woods and chirping at the other birds that darted past. A flutter of purple caught her eye, and banking, the taillow found a close branch to land and perch on, hopping close as she studied the object of her attention with curiosity. Normally nocturnal creatures, it was rare to see zubat, and the curious city bird certainly had never had the experience before, though had she known better she might have realized that often strange things out of the norm happened when dealing with trainers. But she hardly even noticed the woman near the bat at all, instead chirping in friendly greeting to the bat, her chirp a snatch of friendly song she sang proudly as Zeno landed further down the branch from her, the fletchling quiet as he glared at the human on the floor of the forest...

▲ Vector was right- the tiny stones were everywhere, and if she really tried, Akane bet she’d be able to scoop them up by the handfuls. For now, though, she was content to pluck them out of the dirt one at a time, her other hand wrapped around her knees for balance. Pluck a gem, brush it off, examine it in a beam of light, place in her pocket- rinse and repeat, over and over. It was monotonous but relaxing, almost meditative in a way. The Zubat’s ears were quick to pick up the chirping, swiveling back towards the tree where the bird was presumably perched. With a more powerful flap of her wings, Vector glided over towards the sound. She knew Akane wouldn’t mind so long as she didn’t venture far. A quick precise turn, and the bat pokemon swooped low and hooked her claws into a branch just higher than the taillow’s. Her wings hung open on either side of her as she hung upside down; she was more than happy to give them a moment’s rest. Craning her neck to face the birds, Vector gave another, lower-pitched greeting cry. <Is this your forest?> She asked, tilting her head to one side. <Do you know anything about these gems, perhaps?>
The sound of beating wings behind her ceased, and Akane turned to see Vector happily perched in a nearby tree. Two other birds were there, one with blue and red plumage that she quickly identified as a taillow, a bird native to her home region. The other she couldn’t place, though that hard stare was not lost on her. Her dark eyes narrowed ever so slightly at the bird, as if asking what they could possibly want- then her expression lightened as she turned back to her own pokemon. “Making friends, are we Vector?” She called. Akane didn’t see any people around yet after a quick glance, but the trees were dense here- who knew what could be lurking around the brush. With all these gems scattered about, she was vaguely surprised that more people weren’t more people traipsing through the forest. Her hand hovered near Vector’s pokeball in her other pocket, just in case. +5 jade gems No worries, I’m pretty rusty too! And sorry about how short my posts are- I usually try to push for a little longer but I’m still getting used to my work schedule and don’t want to keep you waiting on me for forever!
