"Think you could dig for me, Saffron?" All the easy-to-find gems had been plucked already so going underground seemed like their best bet at finding more--even if underground only meant a few inches.
"Hmm," the young Flareon muttered while he looked around the field. Saffron much preferred solving problems with his head than with his paws--some people solved problems with their heads by thinking about them, but for Saffron, solving problems with your head meant he preferred tackling them. But still. His human had a request and Saffron could help. "Yeah, I can give it a try." The ginger beamed and patted the Flareon on his impossibly fluffy neck. (Seriously, he could not get over how fluffy Flareons were. It was the best.) "Knew I could count on you, buddy."
With his confidence bolstered by the praise, Saffron took a deep breath and got to work. He began digging haphazardly, sending grass and dirt flying in the search for those precious gems. "Found some!" The fox yipped eagerly as he unearthed a mouthful (handful? pawful?) of the red spheres. The Flareon was too young to understand the point of hunting for gems and so he kept right on digging, sending the dug up gems flying behind him along with the discarded grass and dirt. Aiden set his egg on the ground and went to collect the gems while Saffron kept digging, coating his bright orange fur in a fine layer of dust.
"Amazing job, Saff! Look at you go, man," Aiden called out happily while he bagged the newest gems. He still had a long way to go before he could get the prize he wanted--the prizes, if he were being honest but every little bit helped. Baby steps, and all that. "Thanks!"
In his peripheral vision, the Flareon spied another person in the area. While Aiden collected the dislodged gems, Saffron stopped digging and crouched low. The person looked friendly, Saffron thought, and it was an excellent day to make a new friend! In lieu of verbally introducing himself, he charged straight at the person with a tackle attack.
As a fourteen pound Eevee, Saffron's tackles had done very little--he'd run headlong into Aiden's shins and then he'd bounce right off. But as a fifty five pound Flareon, things were different. Saffron had only recently evolved, though, and he hadn't quite put all that together.
