Just minutes after leaving the lab, the Tepig found herself in the shadow of the enormous Palkia and Dialga statue. It had always looked pretty from the lab, but up close? Oh, my. It was a day-and-night difference.
Nutmeg craned her neck back as far as it would go in an attempt to see the entirety of the statue. Even then, the piglet had to take a step back to see the whole thing. The position change carried her out of the shadows so she could see the sunlight glimmering off the statue. Nutmeg's breathing hitched. She couldn't remember ever feeling this small. "It's beautiful," the Tepig whispered, keeping her voice muted out of respect.
The city boy behind her let out a small laugh. "It's pretty cool, yeah," he agreed. It was a lovely piece of craftsmanship, yes, but it didn't strike him as beautiful or terribly impressive. In an effort to see things from her perspective, Aiden knelt down beside the awestruck Tepig and looked up. He was nearly six feet tall and she was a third that size. It was amazing what a difference four feet made--the statue certainly looked much bigger from down on the ground.
"I've gotta show you around Rigel City one day." He scratched the Tepig (his Tepig!) on her back while he talked. Shivers ran down her spine and Nutmeg leaned into the sensation. "That place is beautiful, too."
Tepig craned her neck back once again, this time to look at her new trainer. "Is that where you're from?" Aiden nodded. "I'd love to see it one day, then." She'd never had someone who wanted to take her places before. He grinned and looked back up at the statue. "I feel like we should commemorate this day somehow." Tepig opened her mouth to say something, then thought better of it and settled for a curious head tilt. She had no earthly idea how to respond because she had no earthly idea what he was talking about--but she was willing to go along with it, whatever it was.
Without another word, he wrapped his fingers beneath her belly and hoisted the pudgy pig up. Her short legs squirmed for the two seconds or so that she was airborne, and just as quickly as he'd picked her up, Aiden set her down on the base of the statue. Nutmeg blinked and looked around anxiously. "Is--is this okay?" She took a step forward so her right hoof was teetering on the edge of the platform and peered over the edge. Heights were an unsettling experience so she backed away while Aiden pulled out his phone. "I'm sure it's fine," he said easily, waving away her concerns.
Aiden did a one eighty so his back was against the base of the statue, then pulled out his phone. He wrapped an arm around his pudgy little starter and, with his free hand, pulled up the camera. Nutmeg cringed. Seeing pictures of herself always sent fresh waves of shame through the Tepig. Cameras added fifteen pounds, or so she'd always heard, and wasn't she tubby enough already? But Aiden seemed so excited about it. She didn't want to ruin that so she kept her reservations to herself.
Aiden flipped the camera so they could see their reflection and leaned over so his auburn hair was resting against Nutmeg's orange fur. "Say cheese!" He adopted his natural, goofy smile and Nutmeg pulled on the best smile she could. He tapped the screen several times in a row and in each one, Nutmeg thought she looked forced, out of place, uncomfortable--and as if that weren't bad enough, directly facing the camera like that only seemed to accentuate the way her rolls of belly fat protruded from either side, no matter how desperately she sucked her tummy in.
Aiden hummed thoughtfully. Something candid, then? Yes. Candid was good. As soon as the idea crossed his mind, the ginger reached over and tickled her. As if on cue, Nutmeg squealed with laughter. He took a few more pictures and then stopped. Still giggling, Nutmeg laid on her side next to Palkia's leg, panting heavily but grinning. Aiden grinned back at her and pulled up the last picture on his phone.
His face was a blur in the picture while his fingers moved like lightning against her rib cage. She was angled away from his head, leaning away from the tickling sensation. One hoof was raised, her eyes were closed, her curly tail was held high, and her mouth was open in a wide, genuine smile. She looked comfortable in that picture, like she was happy. Palkia and Dialga's legs were all that was visible in the background, meaning it was basically impossible to see where they were. Neither of them cared. They knew. That was what mattered.
"Beautiful," he announced. She bobbed her head in agreement. "Beautiful."
Now that he had her approval, Aiden made the picture the background on his phone, then locked it. He rubbed her belly affectionately and looked out towards route one. "Well, Nutmeg. Guess we should head out of Cassiopeia soon?" She nodded absently. A moment later, one of her hind legs began kicking of its own accord when he struck the good spot on her stomach. He stopped and she opened her eyes, looking pointedly at him. Taking the subtle cue as a sign of defeat, Aiden carried on rubbing her belly and leaned against the statue. "In a few minutes, then."
